Well, for those of you that were wondering what happened since that episode on the highway this summer, here's sort of an update. I decided to attempt to work things out because I still have very strong feelings for him. I know what you all are talking about when you say it's time to go, and believe me, I thought about that, but I just couldnt. Things have been going very well for me with work and all that, but Derek has been getting more and more depressed. He is one of those that turns things inward, so it's hard to read what he's thinking sometimes. SO anyway, on Wednesday after work I get home to find a message from him that he left work to go see a doctor at the hoispital and proceeded to tell them that he's taken a bunch of pills and that he's very depressed. So nedless to say, he's in the stress unit at the hospital. He told them about his Meth use and theyre doing a drug eval on him to determine whether he can do out or inpatient treatment/therapy. Perhaps I've asked for this grief by not leaving when I could, but I'm not one of those that believes in cut and run if you know what I mean. SO he's gonna be in there for at least a week, then who knows. I think it's ironic that as things look up for me, they take a turn for the worse for him. Guess you never know do you.....

This could be good, though. He needs help. Other than that, I'm sorry you are going through a hard time with him. Don't people always have horrible depressive crashes in between meth usage?
Anyway, I hope this really helps him.

Geez...I'm sorry to hear about that. Has he kept on with the Meth since the highway incident...or has it been mostly depression?
Well I hope that you two can work things out - but just remember to take care of yourself! I know what you mean about not wanting to just cut and run - I hope he appreciates you.

But I've heard, and I talked to my therapist and he told me that once you try to get off Meth, you can have mood episodes that shall we say are unpleseant. That's happened. Not that I'm immune to that either mind u.

If you are that commited to Derek, then things will work out as long as he is just as commited to your relationship and getting healthy.
Good luck :)

David, you don't whine all the time at all. The stuff you share is pretty major - and what's the Ledge community for if you can't come here to talk about this stuff....:o

I guess that's why I love Fleetwood Mac so much, cause of their incredible depth and passion.

I hope Derek gets the help he needs and that you two can start a new life together. I have been in your shoes. If you're able, get some help and start talking either to a therapist or a group (AL-anon) to address your co-dependency issues. The stronger YOU are, the better you'll be able to help Derek. xoxoxo

I have been in your shoes. Great point! One of the reasons I share these things is that we all go through our lives, and you never know who you run into might be dealing with some form of mental illness. I do it everyday, and I'm more than willing to share my experiences, if for no other reason than to raise more awareness for the issue. Having said that, I believe people here are very understanding of it and not ignorant at all.:)

You know, in my own kooky way I don't see this as a bad thing. He is trying to help himself and he just took the first step.
Hang in there baby. :xoxo:

well good for him to be smart enough to go to the hospital and try to work through it. I think you need to do what you need to do and let him go through his treatment and then re-evaluate things when he gets out. you may both realize that either this relationship is or isn't worth salvaging. if you both want it, I hope it works out; but it has to be a mutual "want to" and I hope, either way, you both find what you need and are happy.
try to be there for him as much as you can and as needed, but be there for yourself as well.

David, I am sorry that you are going through this but I do hope that Derek gets the help that he needs. I hope that the 2 of you can work it all out.

David,
While it's hard to see, the bright light in this (as has been said by so many on this thread) is that Derek is getting some badly needed help.
Like I've said, people do drugs for a reason, and hopefully Derek will get to the root of his problems with this professional help so the both of you can move to a much better place in your relationship and lives--if that's what you both decide.
Just please make sure you get the support you need and look out for yourself with the same energy as you are for Derek.
You have a lot of friends on this board who care---Ryan

I have a few people in my life like that, a couple of them are family members. And it's been going on for years. I don't believe in the irony of it anymore. I won't say what I believe it is because you are a gentle soul and I don't want to seem negative. Only wish you the best and will pray for you. :xoxo:

Hi David,
I wasnt here when the "highway" incident happened so I dont know the past history of your relationship and your friend derek..... but I notice that you said that "derek went to the doctor" and that is the most positive thing you could say.... If he had gone because you made him then you would have little or no progress, but as he has gone of his own accord I feel that maybe he has taken some personal responsibility for his depression and is accepting that he needs help... The first step to getting better, whether it be due to addictions or due to mental illness, is the willingness to ask for help...
I think it is very important to remember to look after your own personal needs as well as supporting Derek through this time...
sounds like he may be on the road to a possible recovery.... hope it all works out for you. :)

I don't either. My first thought was, "Great!" People need help to get off of drugs, you can't do it on your own. Good for him for getting help.

Nothing wrong with supporting your BF. But be strong & don't let him bring you down with him. Things are going well for you now, so don't let that go.

Derek and I had a meeting with the Social worker at the hospital today and we both aired some things out. It was what I'll call "Productive." I learned that we're both pretty set in our ways, and we both need to budge if it's going to work.
