1. Show You How
2. Down on Rodeo
3. Cast Away Dreams
4. It Was You
5. Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
DOR and SGCYM sound identical to the Torrent versions previously leaked. The others sound like vintage Lindsey!

I like Cast Away Dreams! The first one is going to take some getting used to... it's not something I instantly liked, but it's not too bad. The music to CAD reminds me of Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now.

Loving the laid back, yet fascinating sound. Cast Away Dreams is really lovely. This sounds like it's going to hang together as an album much better than Say You Will, which seemed just like a collection of ideas.
I worried a bit about what Lindsey's voice might sound like, but the harmonies are just so pretty.

AAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! The three new songs are fan-friggin'-tastic!!! :blob1: I can't decide which one I like best... it's basically a three-way tie at the moment.
I think I like the 'Soundstage' version of "Down On Rodeo" better, but this version is pretty terrific, too. "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind" sounds like a slightly different mix to my ears... it sounds a little more "open" and airy than the version on the GLAAD Media Awards CD. Such a brilliant song -- I couldn't be happier that it's FINALLY getting a wide release.
Bring on October 3rd!!!

i'm going to be honest -- if the rest of the album has this much reverb/echo, i'm not going to be a happy camper. i was anticipating a sound a la gos only perhaps with a new level of maturity and solid guitar playing. and it's just -- not.
i'm not in love.

The three 'new' songs sound solid, currently I'm loving "Show You How" and the helium Beach Boys on "It Was You". They're all bound to be growers anyway.
Maybe there is a bit of a new voice here too, as Christy said. More mature, perhaps. Of course he's still covering the increasing weaknesses in his voice with gadgetry but that's what I expected.
Not sure if Gerald will like the OOTC-like electronic percussion on both "SYH" and "IWY" though.

I love the new songs, they all have great lyrics and tunes. There's a fresh up-beat sound to them.
Don't know about the vocal manipulation though..
Lindsey's got a good natural voice. Lower than in his early years, but its still strong (Live I am Waiting). I don't know why there's so much manipulation in here!?
Oh well, I'm sure we will all get used to it.:)
three more to go:
Juniper, Too Late and Under The Skin..
Wonder what they'll be like!?
As soon as I got the album and listened a couple of times, I'm sure to be crying out for more Lindsey music More!!! Couldn't you have put a few more songs on there!?
I do hope this rock album materialises next year, early next year!?

Down On Rodeo - at last in all it's glory! Like JS said about SGCYM, this version of DOR has been scrubbed up and the percussion in particular is quite enhanced.. a bit more reverb on the snare or something, plus the hihats in the chorus are more audible. And of course the vocals shine through so much more clearly. After all these years of the GOS track it's great to finally get such a fine quality mix. No doubt the CD itself will be even nicer.
I listened to Show You How and really liked it. At last new songs! Yet I can't stop listening to Down On Rodeo! I look forward to giving the others a listen.

Ah I suppose it must. I don't have any of the 'lossless' things.
Also I've had a chance to listen to the SGCYM. Again I was hearing new nuances in the vocals that I hadn't been able to hear all this time. I guess I should have got on the lossless boat. Oh well, my loss (more or less)!
These new songs remind me of the sound of the songs from the ''Lost in Translation' soundtrack. The sort of sparse instrumentation and singing style/effects. Very 'relaxy' and 'spacey' for lack of better words.

SYH is weird and totally fantastic. Well basicly I'm so relieved that it is all pretty yet out of this world sonicly. I love the SPACE in these tracks. That is going to be a 3-dimensional listening experience for sure in the uncompressed formats. I don't have a problem with electronic rythm. I have a problem with electronic percussion in rocksongs. They pull away the rawness. Until now I am touched by what I hear. Oh And I like his voice VERY much. I wonder how it will keep up in the rockin'songs he promised on the next one.
I just can't believe I'm hearing this.
I'll post more of my perception when I have more time.....

PS: the percussion on SYH does not sound OOTC-like. It sounds like the opening of the Ledge. Did he rediscover one of his 25 bathrooms?

Very cool!!
When I first started playing SYH played it from the link Mr. Wonderful posted, and I also had Lindsey website open at the same time and it started playing on that automatically. I didn't realise and I got this weird mix of the same song being played twice! I didn't like it, but I didn't realise what was going on. Then when DOR started playing on his site I realised what was going on and I was mighty relieved. Only listened to SYH once (well once properly!) and I like it alot.

SYH is weird and totally fantastic. Well basicly I'm so relieved that it is all pretty yet out of this world sonicly.
One of the coolest things about "Show You How" and "It Was You" is that they both have very little guitar, or little traditional guitar on them (because we all know he can make guitars sound like anything anyway). Guitars don't take the center of the attention on either one, they're both just a combination of thumping percussion and all those varispeed vocals. On "IWY" there's just this rhythm electric guitar distant in the right speaker, seems to be the only guitar in the song really.
So that's the only "new" direction that was left for him - take out the guitars!
PS: the percussion on SYH does not sound OOTC-like. It sounds like the opening of the Ledge. Did he rediscover one of his 25 bathrooms?
It does sound OOTC-like on "IWY" though, which is probably why I like it the most of the three. Oh, and also because it doesn't have that new agey panpipe-synth outro that "SYH" has. ;)
"CAD" is my least fave right now. Starts out great with the "I'll-make-this-guitar-sound-like-a-different-string-instrument" intro and then turns into an ordinary sing'n'strum piece. But it's still good.
Together with this recently-surfaced "GYOW" from 1975 where Lindsey tries a ridiculous falsetto all these new tracks have pretty much made my week! Last week was perfect because of another fan high. One's gotta come down soon though. ;)
Haven't listened to the songs, but, my hell, can that site be any more difficult to get around? I'm clicking here and there and finding nothing that I'm looking for. How frustrating. Can someone please post a link to the songs? I can't find anything in that mess.

Yeah that's why SYH is my fave till now. But I must say, the directness of SUD, and the fact that it is less "constructed" appeals to me the most. I really hope that that attitude is there on some of the other three tracks.

Yeah, although the bit about his "visionary eyes" is still pompous. And of course I initially heard the "farewell to the wishes that die" line in the same way I used to with the lyric to Gypsy: "witch" instead of "wish". ;)

'No drums, very little bass' on Buckingham's new CD
Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham is about to unveil his first solo CD since 1992's Out of the Cradle. He describes the stripped-down arrangements on Under the Skin, due Oct. 3, as "kind of a reduction. There are basically no drums, very little bass. On a musical level, I've been trying to distill things."
Skin also reflects a sense of contentment, he says, that owes much to his wife, Kristen, and their three children. "This is the best time in my life, and that's a great thing to be able to say when you're 56, and didn't become a father till you were 48."
He plans a "more rocking" companion CD in 2007, after a U.S. tour. "It's a turnaround, time-frame-wise, for someone who's been sort of the Terrence Malick of rock," referring to the reclusive director.

"Cast Away Dreams" will have to grow on me...but after hearing it three or four times already today, I'm starting to get into it. Of the new songs I think my favourite is It Was You, which Gaius is completely and utterly wrong to compare to the OOTC sheen.
Wrong, I say, wrong.
Cast Away is sweet and almost lullaby-like. Not so mad on Show You How, but it's growing on me. What I do love about it though is how minimal it sounds! There's hardly anything going on in that song, and what there is, is pretty subtle, which is cool. Maybe Lindsey has finally learnt that less sometimes can be more.
DOR and SGCYM sound pretty much the same as they always have.
Still making up my mind about the new tracks overall though...

OK, I've listened to them all and I think they are all great. I liked them all on first listen, now I really love them!
I've got to say though... Down On Rodeo is one of Lindsey's absolute finest moments in his entire career IMO. I don't see any tracks on the album topping that track, but you never know, in 6 months after the album has been released some of them could really have grown a lot on me so that I like them more.
I know John played on DOR, but who actually wrote the bassline? Does Lindsey give John the music and he plays it, or does John do it himself? Who ever wrote it did a FANTASTIC job. It's perfect for the song.

Shut Us Down to me sounds alot better when listened in the context of the rest of these tracks. I wasn't too keen on it at the start.
Show Us How, I too liked right away... Sounds like he's playing his leather ottoman with the spoons thrown in in the background.
Cast Away Dreams - sounds beautiful with the stumming... Probably my fave of the 3 "newer" tracks so far.

it would seem as such. i'm just so used to loving lindsey/stevie solo songs (for the most part) immediately upon hearing them. not this time.
perhaps i'm too indie for le buck now? (*shakes fists at you and merf*)
however, i do like shut us down quite a bit (despite the whispered / breathy vocals). i'll always love down on rodeo and someone's gotta change your mind. i'm curious as to how much the other songs we've come to know over the years will change or if they'll be as we previously heard them.

i believe the album is ranked by how many units have sold against other albums (not necessarily being pre-sold but that are for sale) on amazon. of course i'm not really sure how many albums amazon sells but i think it's safe to say the newer the album or the more popular the album, the higher ranking it will have. christine's album in the meantime is now at #11,093 in music.

Wrong, I say, wrong.
To be fair, we were just talking about the percussion sounds. Although I'm certain that to some people this new stuff with the extreme vocal manipulation will sound even more artificial than OOTC. But then we don't need to care about those people, do we? ;)
I do agree with you that minimalism is the key here though. These new tracks are very anti-guitar hero in the end.

it would seem as such. i'm just so used to loving lindsey/stevie solo songs (for the most part) immediately upon hearing them. not this time.
No, I am not too fond of these ‘new’ songs myself. This is not what I expected from him. Castway Dreams seems to be the best so far, however. I am sorry but I just don’t like this new Lindsey. This is awful to say but I liked him better bitter and tortured.

This is my best shot (also my fav)
Cast Away Dreams
Holy Nights, Visionary sights
There’s been a change in plans
Goin away, No I cannot stay
I hope you understand
{Chorus}
I won’t be home til tonight
I’ll just slip out of sight
Lay down my visionary eyes
Dancin on my cast away dreams
Keep yourself out of sight
Farewell to the wishes that died
Look for me in the mornin light
Dancin on my cast away dreams
Magic one
All our dreams are done
I have no faith today
Sun will rise
In your newborn eyes
Just let me slip away
{Chorus}
It would do no good
To drown in the sea
Where no one remembers their name
And nothing but nothing is free
Hearts would break
With choices we must make
So sleep and dream of me
{Repeat Chorus}
Look for me in the mornin light
Dancin on my cast away dreams

That's perfect! To my ears he's saying "I Won't Be Home Tonight" at the beginning of the chorus.

I adore him too - but these songs are not grabbing me.
But, if they work for everyone else - great!!!!!!!!!!
Interestingly, he seems to be avoiding those IMO brilliantly sardonic lyrics like on Say Goodbye, ISA, etc. - - as well as the more pop ones like Trouble.

That's the good thing. Again he does something we don't expect from him. I guess we must stop hoping for things he did in the past, he just seem to refuse to live up to that. He's not a crowdpleaser, hell, even his biggest fans are shakin' on their grounds. I'm puzzled too, I can understand everybody who's a bit dissapointed-maybe I am too. But in some way these songs are stickin' after you play them alot. They all have a very high level of catchy-ness and they are annoying in some way too. But when I first heard Save Me A Place, Johnny Stew, Play In The Rain, Not That Funny, WMYTYTO, Murrow, Red Rover, Say Goodbye, it took me a long time before I got the brilliance of them too. Frankly, at first they made me itch like I had some gonnorrhea they'd never discovered before.

I loved Red Rover from the second I heard it. That song shot right through me.
Over the past few days, I've not been listening to the songs at LB.com because I don't wanna burn myself out. I've been singing Castaway Dreams and It Was You though, but Show You How....annoys me a little. The chorus is too repetitive, but I do like the verses. So far, that's my least fave of the three. I put that one in the What's the World Coming To league as it's an okay song, but not even close to being a fave.
The album comes out 3 weeks from tomorrow. :D
I'm extremely curious to see which of the new songs are put in the setlist and how they will sound...live!
Anyone looking for OOTC is going to be SORELY disappointed. All three of LB's solo albums are super different and this one is no exception. I can totally see people not liking the songs, but I would listen to them a few times and see if they grow on ya.

Every time a new album from someone I like comes out, I ask myself, If I like the songs because I want to like them (because it`s music from that artist) or because the music is good. Would I get a fan, if I never heard about that artist before and simply heard these songs? Would I get a LB fan if I never heard of him before and simply listened to the 3 new songs? I would say no. It was you and Show you how are songs I`d like to like and not songs I liked for themselves. That might develop, if I listen to these songs frequently. Still I am sure the album as a whole will be a good one. Shut us down f.e. as a relatively new song is sensational good for my ears. I would get a fan because of this one. I guess I like a little more instrumentation, esp. a little bit more guitar. I hope the rest of the new songs are more SUD style to make it not too much Brian Wilson-esque.

I hope the rest of the new songs are more SUD style to make it not too much Brian Wilson-esque.
One of the things I like about this new stuff are the Wilsonesque qualities. It's stripped down in a Smiley Smile-manner; maybe it is indeed a reaction to the accusations about overproduction that people have often thrown at Lindsey (just like Wilson reacted to the failure of Smile by stripping it all down and even ruining the potential of some of the tracks).
Plus there's something really endearing and charmingly naive about a guy singing cliched lyrics about his kids; a sign of the oncoming dementia perhaps. Pretty similar to what Wilson's songs turned into at one point.
I'm hoping for the so-far-unheard three tracks to be full of overproduction, just for diversity's sake. It's unlikely because it's supposed to be acoustic, but anyway. ;)

Hello all---
First, I have to say that any new Lindsey music is better than NO new Lindsey music. Having said that, I'm excited about the stripped back production of some of the new songs, but I'm trying NOT to let my expectations get too high.
I definitely share the views that have been expressed about Lindsey's vocals on these tracks. I've never understood his apparent need to treat his vocals with a variety of effects. The worst of these is his frequent use of flange, which really gets on my nerves. Just for once, I'd love to hear Lindsey's voice with a direct, in-your-face production, similar to Daniel Lanois' approach to recording vocals. [Interestingly enough, Lanois is another guy who has a reputation for over-producing, but his vocal recording style usually results in a sound that makes the singer seem like he/she is right there in the room with the listener. There are probably LOTS of effects and processors involved, but Lanois uses them to make the vocal sound more natural...not LESS natural.]
On another note, I had the same thoughts about Brian Wilson's transition from SMiLE to Smiley Smile as others did, and I'm happy to hear Lindsey doing something a little different in terms of the music arrangements/production. I don't dislike any of the new songs, but "Shut Us Down" still doesn't do a lot for me because it's nothing new for Lindsey.
I was actually hoping for new or different mixes/versions of "Down on Rodeo" and "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind." Not that they weren't good already, but, after all this time, I was hoping for some new element to them. I guess, in my mind, this still doesn't feel like a "new" album. I felt the same way about SAY YOU WILL, and, assuming some of the other GIFT OF SCREWS tracks could show up on Lindsey's next "electric" album, it looks like the situation will be the same next time around.
But, again, I'm just happy to have a few previously unheard Lindsey songs...

That's just the nature of the beast when songs get leaked. It's not HIS fault that his "new" songs are already old-hat to a majority of his fans. Most likely, to Lindsey, he thinks ALL the songs are "new" to his fans. Actually, we're to blame if we have unfulfilled expectations of his new album.

I`m not too fond of the idea to first release songs on live outings and then after that put them on a follow up studio thing. Bleed to love her stole the place of another song on SYW, DOR and I am waiting were on the Soundstage DVD. The difference might be that DOR is a great song as studiversion whereas BTLH was boring me. Concerning the leaked songs you are right, it is our problem. We have no right to complain. Sometimes we do it nevertheless

..well, I don't know about THAT, but you're right about the first part---it's not Lindsey's fault a bunch of his "new" songs have been in fans' collections for several years now. Or is it...? I always wondered if Lindsey himself leaked the tracks to measure fan interest and generate buzz for the album, knowing that the true fans would track the songs down and would also more than likely buy the official release.
I guess I should have been more clear. You're right---my main complaint is that we've been listening to some of these songs for years, and that's probably not Lindsey's fault. But another reason for me wanting different mixes or versions of the "old" songs is so that they fit better with the newer material.
In the recent online articles, Lindsey has implied that he wanted a more stripped back sound as well as a unified theme and tone for the album. He told Billboard, "It seemed to be more truthful in terms of what the songs were saying and what I was trying to look at" to hold the guitar-driven songs until the next album. He's talking about a general them and approach he was "trying to look at."
He also said, "I want to still have it sound like a record, but very much in the spirit of someone sitting and playing guitar." "Down on Rodeo" is a great song, but it doesn't have the kind of sound he's describing in that statement. If he wanted THAT kind of approach, he should have stuck with the demo arrangement, which I happen to think served the song a little better than the more produced one.
When I listen to the truly new songs, they literally sound like they're from a different session than the "older" songs like "Down on Rodeo"---probably because they ARE from a different session! Actually, "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind" is probably somewhere in between the two production styles. On the other hand, we don't know that the "new" songs weren't written or recorded 5 years ago...! Hah!
My favorite band, Crowded House, included an older song called "Walking on the Spot" on their final studio album, TOGETHER ALONE. WOTS was written and demoed in 1986 and performed in a completely different arrangement [upbeat] during their early tours, but the version that ended up on TOGETHER ALONE was a slow, dark ballad with a similar mood to Lindsey's "Street of Dreams" [which happens to be one of my favorite LB tunes].
My point is that, while CH included an older song on a newer album, they didn't just pull out the old tape from 1986 and shove the song into a group of newer recordings that feature a new, different production style. They gave the tune a tune-up, with a new arrangement and a new recording.
I was hoping that Lindsey would have, at the very least, remixed songs like "Down on Rodeo" to make them more closely match the production of the newer tunes.
Is this a deal-breaker for me? Of course not. I'll buy the CD the day it's released, and I will listen to it relentlessly. Obsessive fan that I am, I'm just being picky.
I`m not too fond of the idea to first release songs on live outings and then after that put them on a follow up studio thing. Nevertheless I had liked new ones instead.
That's an interesting point. I never really considered that BTLH bumped another song from the track listing of SYW...I was just happy to have a finely mastered studio version of the tune! [I have to admit, though, that I burned out on it. Now, I can't stand the dated snare sound that Lindsey used on this track, which nearly ruins the song for me, and it was one of my all-time favorites.]
I guess I don't mind this practice of a "live version then studio version" release---that is, as long as the song in question is one that I like! I guess I was the only one lamenting the fact that a complete studio version of "My Little Demon" didn't end up on SYW. [In spite of what I said earlier in this same message, I'm still hoping it'll end up on the next electric guitar album!] Now, if "Running Through the Garden" had been on THE DANCE and then appeared on SYW as well, I'd have been upset. *grin*

Whaddayasay here Matt?
SUD has the most untouched direct in-your-face production Lindsey has ever recorded. AT LEAST since 1979. There are very little effects if at all. Even the guitar sounds ten times warmer than on any studiorecording I recall since Tusk. I understand that at first listen SUD -guitarwise- sounds like something as Say Goodbye, but the sound is as in your face as it can get with this recordingtechnique. In combination with the husky breathy vulnerable vocal I'd say it's a brand new approach. I just hope some of the unknown songs are strummers recorded with the SUD-production-mindset.
By the way, please post more, normally ;) you say interesting and very music-related things that cut wood. I love that.

I understand that at first listen SUD -guitarwise- sounds like something as Say Goodbye...."Shut Us Down" also sounds very much like the way he interpreted "Here Comes The Sun."
Gerald, did you notice my post in the Stevie forum (the thread about the Lindsey article in Billboard) where I mentioned that I'm finally starting to warm somewhat to "Shut Us Down"?
I thought I'd be able to hear your shout of glee all the way here in Pennsylvania! ;)

Warm up over here dude. I have to pass too much uninteresting bull in the stevieforum to keep following it.
I'm glad you're warming up for the song. What is it that makes you float towards it?
By the way, I tresspass anything about that harisson-cover. I have a new friend and I want to keep it that way.

I'm glad you're warming up for the song. What is it that makes you float towards it?I actually think it had more to do with the mood I was in when I listened to it on the Lindsey MySpace page a few weeks ago. I was sitting there, daydreaming a little, and realized that I was actually enjoying the song for the first time and finding an appreciation for it.
I have a feeling that I'll absolutely love it live, the same way I did with "Say Goodbye." On stage he's forced to play more simplistically and the "fussiness" that bothers me is no longer an issue.

The only one Ive heard so far is Down on Rodeo, but I LOVE IT. I never heard the GOS version, so this sounds pretty great to me. I like this version, I think, a little more than the Soundstage version because I think the album version doesn't sound as depressing. Castaway Dreams just finished DL!

DOR is a very big fan-fave, but I don't like the song that much. I rate it as a good lindsey-pop-song but it has never touched me that much. I must say, that the melodies in Castaway Dreams speak more to me. DOR and CAD are a couple for me in this set of tunes.

Yup, well the GOS version anyway. Listened to the first minute of the UTS one on his site and stopped because it was the same to my ears and there were newer songs I had yet to hear.

That's perfect! To my ears he's saying "I Won't Be Home Tonight" at the beginning of the chorus.
I agree, that's what I hear too...
Thank you, Rumour0323 :) I just adore how the pretty music and his voice blend together. This song is gorgeous.

.....search for....
"past is gone, Will is here"
"past is gone, LeeLee's here"
"past is gone, Stella's here"
at the end of each chorus.
that should do the trick....I guess:thumbsup:
Hmm! I was searching for the names alone and the only one I could distinctly hear was Stella's :) I'll listen harder next time.

Don't take stewies remark too serious, Chili, Lindsey went crazy on that one and SUD is very controlled, pretty and warm. I don't hear ANY similarity apart from the fact that he's pickin'.

Respect dude, I wish I could conquer the temptation.
I just wait for an album to be released outta habit, I dont wanna hear a pre-release track that I may dislike and end up with a negative attitude towards an album.
Oh, ya need to go to "Chit Chat" and read about tonights Flaming Lips show in OKC, that should be a helluva visual trip.

Hello all---

Not to be one who is too attached to his own opinions, I downloaded the MP3s that are linked in this very thread and listened to them repeatedly this morning on the way to work.
Then I realized that "Shut Us Down" isn't one of them. Hah! I also forgot my copy of the ELIZABETHTOWN soundtrack, so I don't have "Shut Us Down" to listen to as I write this. <sigh>
However, I can say that the thing I don't like about "Shut Us Down" is that it sounds so much, guitar-wise, to "Say Goodbye" and, to a lesser degree, "Try for the Sun." Now that you mention it, I DO remember that the vocal is rather dry, which is a good thing.
The beginning of "Show You How" reminds me a little of Donovan's "Catch the Wind," but it's not in 6/8 time. And not with Donovan singing... *grin* This song sounds like TUSK, circa 2006, to my ears. Like many of Lindsey's TUSK tunes, there's a very simple chord progression and melody, but it's very hooky and stripped back and raw. The more I hear this song, the more I think that it would be worth buying the whole album just to have "Show You How."
"It Was You"---how sweet to hear Lindsey sing about wedded bliss. I love a "fun" song as much as the next guy, but this song sounds a little half-baked to me. It wants to be an "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" type tune, but the arrangement never lets it get there.
"Cast Away Dreams"---what a great chord progression and a melody that perfectly blends with the vibe of the song. But WHAT was he thinking with that vocal effect? Based on the song itself, this is one of my all-time favorite Lindsey songs, but my good will is absolutely killed by the delay/flange effect on his lead vocal. It's not that bad until he says a word with an "s" in it, in which case the effect REALLY jumps out. Tragic. It's completely tragic, because this is a truly great song, otherwise.
I still like "Down on Rodeo," but it doesn't fit with the other songs, to me. Same thing with "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind." Sorry to sound like a broken record, but that's how it feels to my ears. I sincerely hope that the other songs we haven't heard can somehow bridge the perceived gap between these songs and result in a cohesive album. Also, the chorus to "Someone's Gotta..." really gets on my nerves ["I know, I know," etc.]. The repeated words are like nails on a chalkboard...this one really drives my wife crazy, and NOT in a good way...!
By the way, please post more, normally ;) you say interesting and very music-related things that cut wood. I love that.
Hah! So, I "normally" post such things...?!? Just not in THIS case, eh? *grin*
That's me, though---just "musical" enough to be dangerous every now and then. I always used to claim that Lindsey was a big influence on my songwriting and recording, but it's certainly not an obvious thing. The main thing we have in common is a love of recording and a tendancy to OVER-overdub...!

Hi!
I couldn't resist and thought I deserved and needed a "new Lindsey" session tonight and subsequent posting in a forum :) (also, I have no idea when the album will be released here in Spain..) so I listened to the songs. I haven't read this thread yet (so I may be repeating ideas), I will do after.
Cast away dreams is one of the most beautiful and well written songs Lindsey has EVER recorded. Period. Moving... devastating :) It has all those ingredients that makes the music of this guy my favourite... a song like this, when he "gets there", is able to make me feel completely happy.:p
Show you how brilliant also, those Brian Wilson vocal games, and, Lindsey, was it the dusted off Fairlight at the end? lol great
It was you well not my favourite.. eer a bit odd at first listenings... was it reggae? why? :D well it may be funny after a few listenings so let's give it some :) For now I only like 4 seconds when he reminds me of Perry Farrell (another favourite of mine).
The other two songs are already classics to me so no news.
I think that, although a bit shocking at first, Lindsey's choice of production for this album makes total sense to me: completely opposed to current protools-autotune bland crap, keeping the songs simple and pure. Also, an intelligent solution to overcome destructive perfectionism . Even a little less echo would have been welcomed as well.
I can't wait to listen the rest of the album, and the next one, and next
Bravo!!! :blob1: :blob2: :wavey:
Hugs to everyone and a big thank you to Mr Buckingham!

Hi!
(also, I have no idea when the album will be released here in Spain..)
Hector, it seems we won`t get a UTS release in Germany and I don`t know about Europe in general. I had to order it as an import version in a local store. I hope the import delay won`t be too long. The official date was 29.09. but the store people already told me, that the shipping could take 2 weeks longer...
Probably I should have ordered it via amazon instead. Perhaps that`s what you could do too. I guess we won`t have an opportunity to see a live show over here in Europe.
But this release and the prospect of and hope for the next one, which is announced for 2007 is making up for this. My favourite from the 3 new songs is CAD too. I have to get used to the Brian Wilson style-songs but if you can`t say one thing about the new songs, then that this is boring stuff or a work from someone who had run out of ideas. Great days for us.

That seems like a good idea Stefan, maybe it's what I'll do, thanks!
Lindsey in Europe? noo, I don't think so, unless this or the next album are huge, which I don't believe either
This is one of the things that I like most about these songs: he seems like he doesn't care to be polished, commercial, this time (in OOTC, i think he made the attempt), so no compromises in his vision.
I'm sure this and the next album will be loved by every Lindsey fan, just after a little while of getting used to this new sound. I think he's in a great form!
Cheers!

Gerald, do you have any comments on the shocking news that both Try For The Sun and Shut Us Down appear in shortened form on the album? According to the Allmusic Guide discography entry Try For The Sun is 30 seconds shorter on UTS than on GOS and Shut Us Down has lost more than a minute of its length.
Wonder why that is? After all, there is still plenty of room left on the CD.

I hope he didn't cut out the "mirror, mirror in the sky" bit from the end of TFTS because that's lovely.
As for Shut Us Down, it could be that he didn't remove anything from it. He probably played it faster/sped up the tape for the album just to annoy Johnny Stew. ;)

It was weird. I heard it playing quietly in the background and my ears pricked up. I thought, I know this and then it hit me! I was really excited. It sounded pretty nice on the radio too - it worked. Just shows you, Radio 2 could have picked any song from the album to play and, wow, they didn't choose Down On Rodeo! I hope they play it more now. I think everyone should email Radio 2 and request it!
