I put my biases (and doubts :) )aside and decided to head downtown tomorrow morning and register for an audition for American Idol. I think it will be fun, and at the very worst I get a few days off from work. Maybe I'll get through to Hollywood, and maybe I won't. I know that I won't end up on the blooper reel, or one of those poor souls that think they're a stellar performer when really their voice resembles a yak dying. If anything I want to get close enough to smell what Paula Abdul is drinking.

Cross your fingers for me!

Oh and if you have a really good song you'd like to suggest, let me know. Something that shows a good range, a strong vocal, and nothing that you see every year (Stevie Wonder, Motown, etc).

Absolutely! You Ledgies entertain me all week, which deserves a little on air recognition.

good luck my friend. I've auditioned twice and once for Making the Band. it ain't all it's cracked up to be. be prepared for a cattle call at best.

songs I'd suggest (not sure of your range): At Last, Superstition...go to Wikipedia and look up American Idol and there's a list of every song every used that will give you some ideas.

I was debating on auditioning and I was gonna sing "Baby, What You Want Me To Do" by Jimmy Reeves, but ended up not being able to.

Thanks Jason, I appreciate it. Thanks for the wikipedia link, too!

PS, I sooooo would have loved to see making the band starring the timelessly fabulous Jazmen Flowers.

you're welcome. by the way, not sure if you know, you'll be auditioning for producers the first day and most likely the second, you won't audition for Paula and crew until a day or 2 later (or at least that's how it was when I auditioned).

Making the Band can't handle all my fabulousness. :D the judges said I was great and that I should try out for the next season, but that for this season they weren't really looking for a Justin Timberlake type.

Well, sure, I wanted Maniac, but it doesn't have as much range. :wavey:

Good Luck..... when picking a song... I would not worry too much about it having a huge range rather than being suitable to you...

If you sing a song that you are familiar with and sing well, that you can convey the story and feel of the song, the entertainment side is just as important as the singing... people will be able to tell that you have potential for more.....remember you will be nervous so you want to sing something that you are comfortable with.. JMO

hope you do well:thumbsup:

I would very, very much like to audition for Australian Idol and burst in to Blow By Blow (Co-writer Mark Holden is a judge).

Only one thing prevents me, really.

Oh, two - I'm probably too old.

How awesome is that - good for you! I'd say sing a little Mustang Sally, that always gets the party started. Or sing Get This Party Started by Pink. I kid. But not about the first one.

All the best of luck to you!!

Ooh. good luck to you. Break a leg! And tell us all about it when you get back. I'm dying to know what's in Paula's cup.
I'd love to help you pick a song but I don't know what's best for your voice but I will say there are certain types of songs that I think the judges dig.

Okay, I have a wristband and I'm all set for the auditions. They start tomorrow at 5:00AM:shocked: but I am really excited. The songs I chose are Crazy Love by Van Morrison and if they ask me to sing one more it will be Let's Stay Together by Al Green. Sorry Amber, no flashdance.

Tomorrow is the big day, and the forms I have to fill out and read are telling me to be ready to stay all day. Thanks to all of you for your good wishes.

Well, I'm back home. Didn't make it past the first round, but it was a really fun day. I auditioned for a producer for the show, and she said I had a really strong voice and had good tone. It just wasn't what they were looking for this season. I can accept that, and I'm proud of myself for trying. I rocked Let's Stay Together, and even got a little applause from the stands when I was finished.

Given that there were about 8,000 people trying out and only 40 or so made it through to the second round, I'm not heartbroken or anything. It was a fun day and it was cool to be a part of it all. Oh, and I got a look at Seacrest up close...dude wears a lot of makeup. A lot.

Thanks again for all of the kind wishes. You guys rock!

There were hoardes of people that I can only classify as "busted". Be sure to watch the show to see the girl who dressed up like Mary Katherine Gallagher. Supastaahhh!

Hey! Good for you -- I think it took loads of courage to go in the fist place - and I'm glad you had fun!!

None of my cousins made it past the first round either...guess that's a hard cookie to crack!
