I started this over on 7W and it's turned out to be highly popular so I thought I'd bring it to my Ledge bitches (and that includes flamboyant gentlemen).

Not much. I use a little eyeliner, some mascara on my top lashes, and just a hint of shadow. I don't like to use foundation, because my face breaks out very easily, and, I get it all over.

mascara, a bit of concealer (if I need it that day) and I ALWAYS curl my eyelashes at least twice. My eyelashes are so long that it takes two times. Seriously.
Last I apply some "nudish" colored lipgloss and that's it! I hate wearing a lot of make-up. On the weekends I often go without it .

Oil of Olay, some concealer under my eyes, eyeshadow in a copper or light brown color, black mascara, eye pencil on lower eye, a bronzer or a little bit of wine colored blush, lip gloss and tint of wine colored lipstick. No foundation since I have good skin.

Foundation, blush (mauve or brownish-red), lipstick (pink shimmer in summer), eyeshadow (color on lid, usually lavender or blue, brown in crease, white on brow bone), sometimes black eyeliner (definitely if going out), black mascara, concealer under eyes. I'm a girlie girl!

Well I used to use Clinique foundation/powder -but by the end of the day I looked as though I'd dipped my face in a pool of oil.
So I went back to non-department store foundation - found a revlon brand w/ oil control and it's AMAZING. I've been told by several co-workers that I look "soft" and they've been complimenting me daily since I started using it :D
It IS soft and makes my skin look wonderful AND my blemishes have started to clear up since using it!! WooHOo!!
Anyway - so Foundation, then some loose powder - very little eyeshadow - some mascara and lipstick or a gloss. I don't go overboard - I keep it simple....
Unless I'm going out and need to slut myself up a little ;)

Cool. You know, Clinique does have an oil free foundation. It is called stay-true makeup oil-free formula. I always use matte foundation because it really does give you a glow. I do have good skin anyway, but my skintone is uneven and I have a few broken capillaries that bug me (which no one ever notices, even if I mention it). So whoever sold you that crap foundation wasn't doing their job right!

I was using the oil-free one! I always check to make sure things are oil-free - no matter what I used from Clinique my skin would get SO oily. It's not just Clinique though - every foundation/powder combo does that me..well, everyone I've tried.
I didn't try any plain Clinique foundation because all this experimenting was making me poor - so I went back to the Target  Although for eye shadows and lip color I still go Clinique

Here is a link to what I am using:
http://www.revlon.com/product.asp?productid=28645&mode=catalog
I've only been using it for about a two weeks - but so far I just love it - it doesn't rub off all over my clothes, but it's easy to wash off at the end of the day - it is soft - and I don't feel like I have any makeup on at all - so far so good :D With my luck though they'll discontinue it...:p

ooookay-here we go.
Clinique 3 step skin care system
Never wear foundation unless I'm going to be highly photographed (happens all the time:lol: )
Clinique pressed powder. It has a little bit more coverage than regular powder though. Not sure what it's called.
Anyway-Eyeshadow-usually brown, with brown eyeliner. I use a flat brush and pressed eyeliner though.
Here is the brush:
http://www2.victoriassecret.com/commerce/application/prodDisplay/?namespace=productDisplay&origin=onlineProductDisplay.jsp&event=display&prnbr=XC-190459&page=1&cgname=OSMKPTOOZZZ&rfnbr=2630&pn=false
LOVE it.....
mascara (only on top lashes...I'm weird about them on the bottom.. )
then just light blush and lipstick or gloss.

see, I like just a little shine. I can't stand to be completely matte. I think a little glow makes you look younger, imo.

I feel like such a ho, but whatever.
My everyday makeup routine:
- Foundation under my eyes (I rarely sleep, so I need a lot of it), and a bit around my mouth since there are a few discolorations that bother me
- Curl lashes, add a **** ton of Benefit's Bad Gal Lash mascara (loooove)
- Heavily line the bottom lids, the top waterline and right above the lashline in black pencil (think raccoon eyes - it works with the bangs)
- Occasionally, I'll use a bit of MAC Shadestick eyeshadow in white, as it goes on really sheer once you blend it, and just adds a bit of shine
- Chapstick, clear peach-y gloss and a high-shine clear gloss overtop of that
If I feel like looking somewhat like a girl, I'll wear the foundation, add a pink-ish blush (Flirt makes my favorite blush ever), line the top waterline with black pencil, then I'll use black liquid eyeliner on the top lashline and wing out the corners. I add even more of the Bad Gal Lash mascara, and either a matte cherry red lipstick or a burgundy-pink.
I used to do a serious "mod" look, like, with white eyeshadow, fake eyelashes, and painted on bottom lashes (like Twiggy), but it was such a pain in the ass that I just stopped with it. I'll occasionally break it out for parties and gigs, but it's too much for me right now.
Sigh. I love cosmetics.

I don't mind a little shine, myself - so I should add that the foundation I love so much does allow for a little shine - but unlike Clinique I don't look like I've just gone swimming in canola oil :p ew.

During the day for work:
Oil of Olay w/ 15 SPF and Vitamins C and E
Green tinted Almay concealer on the red spots (broken capillaries and the occasional zit)
Kiehl's abyssine eye cream (or the avocado one if I've got some)
Concealer under the eyes, if I need it (and MUST be applied immediately after eye cream)
L'Oreal true match C3 foundation, applied with a sponge
Loose powder
Blush
Curl the eyelashes
Line top eyelid with brown pencil eyeliner and blend
Maybelline mascara, top lashes only. I read somewhere that under fluorescent lighting, mascara on the bottom makes you look like you have dark circles under your eyes, so I stopped doing that.
Lip balm, applied several times a day
For night - full-on eyeshadow, I've been doing the smoky eye lately - liquid eyeliner on top lid and pencil on the inside of my lower eyelids. Which looks really cool, but you have to keep applying it all night to keep it fresh looking. And lipstick.
But let's talk about our receptionist for a moment: Lily Munster. Every day. I'm not kidding. HEAVY eye makeup, liquid eyeliner drawn all the way back to her temples - drawn on eyebrows (I think she plucked out all of her real ones), in a non-flattering orange-y colored pencil. I think she uses one of those stencil kits, 'cause the style changes a lot. But they are always too pointy, like an upside down "V." She's hideous. But she obviously thinks she looks good.

I'm not into sloppy seconds threads.
Sunscreen, sometimes plain 50 spf, sometimes Nutrogena tinted moisturizer with SPF 30. Then, I usually don't have time for makeup. But, I put it on at work or before class.
I like to use this yellowtoned undereye concealer stuff I have, for dark circles or whatever.
Then (usually) some normal face makeup, lightly, mainly under my eyes, on my nose and cheeks under my eyes.
Powder, especially on my eyelids. My current powder is ever so slightly shimmerful. Some brand that is expensive...Physicians Formula Retro Glow - my last powder was from them and I loved it, it had a slight gold shimmer - but then it broke. this one has an even slighter silver shimmer. Well, expensive for me, I think it was like, $12.
Then some kind of eyelid color, sometimes. It's usually barely mauvey, or barely goldish, or slight green eyeliner.
Then, the most important thing, mascara, mascara, mascara.
Lip gloss.
I often don't wear makeup if I don't have class later.
I always wear sunscreen, though.
And if I had to choose just one makeup, it would be mascara. My eyelashes are pretty serious, and I look way better with mascara on, it makes the most dramatic difference.

Yeah, younger, like when my skin was even more oily than it is now.
My skin is always oily. Pretty much. The sunscreen I wear adds to that. I've just accepted it. My mom has aged well, so I'm hoping that will be my reward for having oily skin, too.

I use Mabelline Foundation the one that us 50% water. Some powder to make sure it doesnt come off by the end of the day. Cover Girl blush. black eye shadow and a angle brush for my eye liner. White eye shadow on my lower lid. and a brown color on my crease of my eye. Then I put on some Mascara and curl them with a heated eye lash curler.

I use Lancome Absolue as a moisturizer. Then I use Mac Studio Fix N4 as foundation. I use a Mac powder blush called Margin or sometimes I use a cream blush by Bobbi Brown called Desert Rose. I use a Lorac powder eye shadow called Spice. I curl my eyelashes with a curler by Tweezerman. I love their stuff. I use Lancome Definicils mascara in black. I have tons of lipstick but as of late I've been using Lorac Lotsa Lip in a color called Kissin.

Have you tried Lancome foundation/moisturizer/sunscreen? My friend uses it, and I love it, I always hog it when I visit her. I haven't really tried any Mac products. I like Lancome mascara, too. Don't buy it, of course. Also, when I met you you looked really natural, like you were hardly wearing any makeup. :woohoo: You must be an expert.
Also another question - I find that my eyelashes don't stay curled if I use a curler, but if I curl them just with the mascara, they do - has anyone else every noticed this? Or maybe it is because my eyelashes are long, but very fine?

The daily routine is a Medicated concealer stick (light beige) to cover up my acne which pops up here and there also a clear lip gloss with a nice vanilla scent to it.
If I am going somewhere special then I will add some mascara and a little liner & shadow in plums or browns. I also put on a lip color like Twig or Pecan, occasionally plum or berry hue.

I don't think I answered this over THERE, Jason.
Anyway- daily:
*Peppermint soap handmade from a really cool couple that has a booth at the Farmer's Market. Peppermint soap is cool for blemish prone skin (which I don't have anymore but those emotional scars run deep- heh)
*Velocity moisturizer by MK
*Undereye concealer. A MUST if I want to look human.
*Face Powder (Cover Girl, I think?) It's interesting (to me) that I don't wear foundation anymore.
*Eye liner on top lid
*Mascara
*Blush
*Burts Bees on lips
*At night I use some crazy expensive eye cream and I can't remember the name (too lazy to get up)
If I'm trying to dress up, I add full eyeshadow and a darker lipstick.

OMG. There's a lady at work (well, actually two now that I think about it, but let's start with the one) who looks like she ought to be riding an elephant with Ringling Brothers. She obviously draws on her eyebrows (someone told me they're actually tattooed on, but that may or may not be true), wears shiny bluish gray eyeshadow, and generally looks like she dipped her face in pancake batter. Also, she wears this heavy, sickenly sweet perfume that you can smell for several minutes before and after she's in the room.
There's another lady who looks even more clownish. Her face is several shades lighter than her neck, and the makeup cakes up and cracks around her eyes. The white white makeup also really makes her yellow teeth stand out.
Seriously, I don't get why some women slather on the makeup like that. I can't imagine what it feels like to wear that on your face all the time.

I leave my face nude most of the time, although I try to wear sunscreen or throw a hat on outside. My skin and eyelashes seem to respond to makeup better when I haven't been wearing it every day.
Daytime:
I am using Obagi sunscreen/moisturizer (my mother gave me a bunch as a treat, and when it is gone, I am back to Alba Botanica 30 spf moisturizer)
Loreal age rewind undereye concealer, medium
Dr Hauschka brown mascara
Dr Hauschka translucent powder Finale
Burt's Bees lipstick, don't know the name, some sort of brownish-red sheer and minty.
Night, or day special event:
randome moisturizer
Lancome Photogenic bisque foundation (sometimes Dr Hauschka foudnation which is wonderful, and smells like roses)
Lancome Cedar Rose blush—I use it as a shader as well at the edges of my jaw
Lancome eyeliner, black or gray, top lid
Lancome Hypnose mascara, deep blue (this really looks better with my lashes than black or brown. I used to have my lashes tinted and they used a deep blue) I use a little metal eyelash comb
Benefit Brow Zing medium (an eyebrow cake you apply with an angled brush)
Eyeshadow—usually Lancome, grays, cream, brown, and I sometimes smudge a little under my lower lid at the corners.
lip pencil and lipstick—I usually make the color up to match ,my mood, mixing pencils and lipsticks, and lip balm, or gloss. I really like Mac lipstick, or Lancome, and tend to like rose, or deep blue-red.
*I use a lot of products, but wear very little makeup overall. My skin is fair, and my hair is light, and I think I look sort of awful with too much makeup. When I had dyed burgundy hair, I used Mac, and had very extreme 40's movie star makeup, gothy: pencilled brows, dark lipstick (Verushka, my fave) Mac foundation. It worked well with the dark hair, but it would look good on me now, unless I wore one of my wigs.

i really don't wear a lot of makeup day-to-day. the most i feel comfortable wearing during the day is black eyeliner & black mascara. eyeliner is shiseido (they have the best liquid eyeliner brush ever.), and mascara varies. if i'm in the mood, i'll use a colored eyeliner - usually urban decay purple or green. just for funsies. :p
as for face cleanser, i just use dove bar soap. i actually have really great skin - i'm totally blessed. for moisturizer, i use dove deep moisturizer facial lotion w/ spf 15. dove works just great for me, but the best stuff i've ever used is shiseido cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. amazing stuff. expensive as f*ck, though, which is why i'm using dove now. if you've got the cash, check it out.
if i'm going out, i'll wear sparkly eyeshadow (stila) and lip gloss (hard candy, i think).

I like Alba, but I'm thinking the Obagi is the whole skin care regime that my skin care lady sells in her office? It reduces pigment issues and stuff? Looks really cool, I couldn't afford the system last time 'round. What do you think?
Loreal age rewind undereye concealer, medium
Dr Hauschka brown mascara
Dr Hauschka translucent powder Finale
Burt's Bees lipstick, don't know the name, some sort of brownish-red sheer and minty.
I have never heard of Dr. Hauschka. What's the deal? What are the ingredients like? Burt's Bees is cool, but they don't make colored lip product that is dark enough for my coloring. :(
Night, or day special event:
randome moisturizer
Lancome Photogenic bisque foundation (sometimes Dr Hauschka foudnation which is wonderful, and smells like roses)

Lancome tends to rock, I can't really afford it, but I totally mank my friends'. Especially in the foundational arena. I'm suprised you have such dark lip colors, but I approve. I mean that because blonds usually tend to go with non blue reds, orange reds instead. What color are your eyes? I couldn't tell. They looked greenish brown from your pics.
I'm glad. If people look good with less makeup, they should do it. Course, I've never really had alternate hair colors to play with, so perhaps I'm biased. I think you're right about the fair thing, too much makeup looks weird. I'm actually starting to think that over the top makeup styles mainly look good on Asians and Hispanic people. Because they have such a dark, blank palette to put it on. Like how everything looks good with black. Does that make sense? Like, it looks good when they have a huge liquid liner line with blue eyeshadow, inexplicably.
I can hardly wear anything. My skin isn't light or dark, I have very much red undertone, and my eyes aren't brown or green. Also, my hair is dark, which is cool, but my skin is just olivey enough to where I'd look ridiculous going lighter with my hair. And my splotchy red undertoned skin combined with my not brown eyes make my face already to strangely colorful and patternful to support putting much actual color on it. Basically, my eyelashes are my only strength. Everything else I put on has to be fairly subtle, or I look ridiculous. I don't, and have never, worn blush. I hardly even understand blush. Too much red already on my face. I put makeup on to cover natural blush. I can support mauvish purpleish, some greens, and lightly golden brown things on my eyelids. That's it. Also, I've never worn makeup on my eyebrows. I don't really get that. Unless you are blond? Maybe I should, my eyebrows are thin, but dark, but spread out. It's the classic italian unibrow, but really thin hair, so you might not notice. They also grow way above and beyond the basic shape. But so thin. Also, I have to have dark raisin, maroon, etc. for my lips. Or clearish. Anything else is just super ugly. It's like I have the just wrong skin tone for anything, really. God forbid any orange tones enter my world.
I always love how blondes look really great with brownish tones. Do you rock the brownish?

I'm willing to bet he was being snarky and doesn't own any makeup, although I could be wrong. The markup on makeup is insane so I usually buy the drugstore variety unless I'm in the mood to splurge or Lancome or Clinique is having one of their giveaways.

I haven't tried the Lancome foundation/moisturizer/sunscreen. I'm going to hit them up for a sample next time I'm makeup shopping.
Thank you for the compliment sweets. :xoxo:

Yeah, younger, like when my skin was even more oily than it is now.
My skin is always oily. Pretty much. The sunscreen I wear adds to that. I've just accepted it. My mom has aged well, so I'm hoping that will be my reward for having oily skin, too.
awwww..I'm sorry! well, if it makes you feel any better, my skin is so dry that I break out with every single product. That's why I have to wear the expensive stuff. Well, expensive for ME anyway! 15$ for foundation is high for me!! ha ha. anyway-I just don't like the "caked-on" look, and so I know if I have just a little bit of shine in a few places I'm doing good. I've never had oily skin, so do you get blemishes more???

I can't speak for her - but I'm also an oily skinned person and YES - I get so many blemishes. I HATE it.
I never had oily skin until I moved to the East - then I guess the humidity and moisture in the air just didn't agree with me...so starting about two years ago my skin really started going downhill :(
I used to have just flawless and beautiful skin - now, not so much :distress:
Being back in the west has helped though - my skin is already clearing up and I'm not all oily. I'm not completely dry either - I like a happy medium - which I feel I have achieved here :D

Me, too, but don't try to wear sunscreen or throw on a hat. What're you, wrinklecidal? Just do it!
I do it 80% of the time, but the truth is that most of the damage was done in the first 20 years of my life, in which I spent ALL DAY at the beach, and lived at the beach. I did wear 8spf on my face through high school, and wore a visor, but I was in the sun all day.
I stopped tanning at about 21, and wore foudnation that blocked the sun for quite a few years, and I lived a vampire existence of going out after dark, mostly. In the last decade, I have been a little careless, because I have just spent more time outside, gardening, and hiking, and going to the beach again.

Like Amber, my lashes are pretty much my only facial assett. (omg, I just forgot how to spell asset - asett - ass...forget it.) I used to buy Clinique, but I just don't want to spend the cash anymore, especially since my skin never looks good no matter what I use. The one product I really liked was their cream foundation.
You see, I have terribly oily skin, with uneven coloring & huge pores. HUGE pores - esp. on my cheeks right next to my nose. Anything I use must be oil free & non-comodegenic (or whatever the words is.) I don't break out that often anymore, but when I do they're big & painful & gross. And it's usually on my upper lip or jawline - real attractive. Anyway.
*Wash face with Purpose bar soap. My brother's dermatologist recommended it to him years ago (he had terrible acne, way worse than mine ever was) and I've used it since. Cheap, and it works, not too drying.
*Apply Purpose moisturizing lotion w/SPF 15. Not as cheap, but it lasts me a while
*Trim, tweeze & shape bushy brows as needed
* Apply foundation. Right now, it's Cover Girl or some other cheap brand. Doesn't cover ****. :p It's OK & I don't break out. I got annoyed spending so much trying out products that I just settled. I think I will try that one Dee's using though. My issue is that my oily skin seems to literally eat away at my makeup during the day, so you can't tell I'm wearing any - and not in a good way.
*Cheeks - I cannot apply blush correctly. Powders don't last on my skin, and I love gel or cream blushes, but I just can't seem to apply it in the right area. I try for the "apples of my cheeks" and look like a clown. I ease up & put on less next time, and you can't even see it. Lately, I've just lightly circled my cheeks with a big fat round brush & some peachy powdered blush. The hell with it.
*Eyes - neutral shadow for work/every day, don't care much about the brand. Using Clinique freebie right now. I like browns. If I'm whoring it up, I love a deep violet (kickass with my green eyes) or smokey gray. I always get creases no matter what I've tried. I always wear black liner, not much on the bottom though - Maybeline or something similar. Again, heavier if I'm going out. My lashes are long & pretty dark, so I only use mascara at night. Right now, I think I'm using a Clinique freebie. Makes me realize that it's probably too old & I need a new one.
* Lips - I have never, ever, ever found a good lipstick that stay on & doesn't dry out my lips. Ever. Clinique feels great & I love their colors, but it doesn't last. I've tried several "color stay " or "long last" products, but they dry out my lips too badly. So lately, it's been cherry Chapstick. :D I found some cheap (Rimmel?) lipstick that I put on if going out.
Wow. I really paint a pretty picture of myself in that description, huh? :p I guess my deal is that I love makeup, but I'm annoyed with the fact that nothing makes me look so good that I can rationalize spending the money on it. Poor me.

I like Alba, but I'm thinking the Obagi is the whole skin care regime that my skin care lady sells in her office? It reduces pigment issues and stuff? Looks really cool, I couldn't afford the system last time 'round. What do you think?
I think it is really good, but I didn't buy it. If I were spending my money, I would get some Renova, instead, or just use Porcelana (with all that lard, or vaseline in it) which has the same base ingredient (hydroquinone) as the Obagi lightener does.
I have never heard of Dr. Hauschka. What's the deal? What are the ingredients like? Burt's Bees is cool, but they don't make colored lip product that is dark enough for my coloring. :(
Looky here (http://www.drhauschka.com/about/)
They use really good ingredients, and there are so many weird cancer-causing agents, and toxins in makeup, usually. I like the powder and the foundation and the mascara. The stuff is pricey, though. I use makeup so sparingly, that it seems ok to spend the money. I have a basket of makeup with items from a decade ago. The only things that I don't keep are lipstick (goes rancid) and mascara, and of course I toss things that just look like they have gone wrong.
Burt's bees lipstick doesn't have very saturated hues, but that might be because they are avoiding the questionable pigments—don't know.
My eyes are deep blue, sort of in the grey range. I don't think the corals and oranges look so good with my skin tone, though they look nice with my hair color. I don't always use dark lip colors, sometimes I use a sort of tawny color, almost nude. I like that too.
The cool thing about olive skin is that you really don't need makeup. It isn't that I can look really good without makeup, in fact, I am sure I often look washed-out, esp. my eyes. It is just that I can't be bothered, and I sometimes like to be invisible. I just put sunglasses on. I have ash-blond eyebrows, and a little scar on one that makes the brow incomplete, and also I overplucked in high school, and now my brows are too thin, so if I want to have a complete look, I need a little pencil or cake and brush.
I really like dark raisin, and maroon, and those are colors I have worn on my lips too. I think I can pull it off, but not as easily as when I had dark hair. I am about to get some layers cut in my hair, and some of the darker parts will show through, so maybe that will change my makeup choices.
I am getting more into brown, but more in my dress.

it might be the answer to your blush problems.
I always get those darn creases from eyeshadow too, and I was told to put some sort of foundation on my lids. I guess I have greasy eyelids—doesn't that sound pretty?
For lips, have you tried using a pencil to fill in all over your lips, and then just putting lip balm over?

Dr. Hauschka's is cool! There are three treatment centers right near me, and the products are sold in my Whole Foods. Now I remember seeing the name. oh DO it! It's been an amazing product thus far - in fact I was just in the bathroom washing my hands and I had to admire how soft and un-oily my face looks :D
It's a bit pricier though - between 10-11 bucks - and I mean pricier than some of the cover girl products...
But it's great - my oil used to eat away the makeup as well - or at least react with it and make my skin look all nasty - I've been thrilled beyond words with this...
And it's not 21 bucks like the Clinique stuff was...of course now I'm pissed that I have a half of a 21 dollar foundation unused...I hate being wasteful - but oh well - I hate looking nasty even more :D

Wait, no, I def. don't have olive skin. I meant you. I was thinking that if you have olive skin, and long, dark lashes, you have natural "makeup"
I just went and looked at the Obagi, and the other ingredient that is in the skin lightener is vitamin C. Jason, has some nice vitamin c skin brighteners, and I think they sell those at Whole Foods.

Those are the main ingredients in their clarifiying serum, and then the creams have a bunch of other stuff too. They don't actually tell you what is in their patented C complex.
That esthetician should have some samples to give, if she wants to sell some.

how coincidental - i binged at Sephora yesterday! i love makeup and i love pretty packaging. i have lots of fun products but this is my every day routine:
i use target brand noxema to cleanse and that's it. my skin is pretty normal - not dry (unless it's that week) and not oily. that cheap stuff works really well. i don't wash my face in the morning, unless it was one of those nights... i just rinse with water.
i.d. bareVitamins - skin rev-er upper... has completely erased blemish spots and i never break out any more. worth the $$$$$$$
covergirl liquid concealer in pale... this is the one hold-out from my early makeup days. it works! i only need help under my eyes and this works fine.
bareMinerals foundation in medium beige... there are no words to describe the fabulosity of this product. any other bM fans out there? it takes twenty seconds to apply and lasts all day. if i am going out after work, i touch up with a few quick strokes and it's perfect again.
i don't use eyeliner. it would make me look uber-whorey. i use bareMinerals butterfly all over the lids and shantung in the crease and a little under the lower lash.
i usually use maybelline clear mascara. i have dark lashes (total asset) and can get away with it. for more dramatic (read slutty) occasions, i use maybelline volum express mascara.
lips - usually just tinted burt's bees.
it takes two minutes to get it all done and i think it works well. i almost never go to work with a naked face. i have fairly dramatic features and definitely go naked the rest of the time, but for work i feel pulled-together and i think the kids respond better.

I haven't tried bareMinerals yet, but everyone I know who's used it, loves it, so maybe I'll give it a shot. Ulta usually has good prices on it. Whenever I see that infomercial for it, I think, "Now, why would I want to buy the whole kit if I only need one or two of those shades?"

I haven't tried bareMinerals yet, but everyone I know who's used it, loves it, so maybe I'll give it a shot. Ulta usually has good prices on it. Whenever I see that infomercial for it, I think, "Now, why would I want to buy the whole kit if I only need one or two of those shades?"
the kit i get comes with the rev-er upper, two brushes, the sheer powder, two foundations, and warmth (kind of bronzerish). i use everything except for the one shade of foundation. to buy it seperately would cost a fortune. if you're only interested in the foundation and don't need or want anything else, definitely buy it piece by piece.

I read an article in BUST about a vintage-style cosmetics line
http://www.besamecosmetics.com/ Besame´ Cosmetics
and I am excited about it! The designer uses glass jars and metal for the lipsticks, compacts, and liner—just like mom and Grandma* used to have. They sampled real vintage sometics to choose their colors,
and the website has a special section with details of how to imitate makeup styles from the 20's to the 30's.
You can purchase samples for $1.50 (each) from thier website. I am going to try some.
*I still have a container of Coty loose powder form my Grandmother, just because I like the desgn, and smell of the powder, and I collect old compacts.

I have a weird question regarding this. When you put your eyemakeup on, do you finish one eye completely, or do the shadow on both, then do liner on both, etc. You get the idea. I used to do them one at a time, but now I do both. Whatever. that didn't make sense.

I don't know about MAC, But I can tell you Jazzy, that the absolute best foundation/powder/cover-stick combo is Prescriptives. They do an absolute bang on colour match to your complexion and it wears very light, but very even. And once you've had your complexion "read" then you can blindly buy other make-up items without the guess work. For instance, I'm a blue-red. So I go to the blue-red section and everything there - lipsticks, eyeshadows, blushes, etc. make me look like a freakin' movie star. The stuff isn't cheap, but it's sooooo worth it.

I haven't used Ojon, but the Philosophy stuff is good. I've mainly only used their bath/shower gels- the Amazing Grace is really nice, but I LOVE the Message in a Bottle one. They say they're bath/shower/shampoo, but I would never use them for a shampoo. But that's because I'm a hair product elitist.
As far as makeup goes, I have a friend who uses the present clear powder and loves it. I've tried their Kiss Me lip balm- a lot of people love it but I was not a fan. It was way too gummy and emollient.

I just try to use anything with "soap"-y qualities as little as humanly possible for my hair. I have really pretty long, thick hair and I just try to be careful about what I use in it. The more '-cone' ingredients in a shampoo means I am more likely to chuck it in the trash. Soap is just too harsh for your hair, even if it's a gentle/natural type soap.

Ingredients: Sea Salt (Sodium Chloride), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Fresh Lemon Infusion (Citrus limonum), Toothed Wrack Seaweed Infusion (Fucus serratus), Scottish Sea Water (Aqua), Cocamide DEA, Lauryl Betaine, Fresh Lime Juice (Citrus limetta), Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera), Neroli Oil (Citrus amara), Mandarin Oil (Citrus nobilis), Vanilla Absolute (Vanilla planifolia), Orris Absolute (Iris florentina), Perfume, Methylparaben, Propylparaben,
"Both Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and its close relative Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are commonly used in many soaps, shampoos, detergents, toothpastes and other products that we expect to "foam up". Both chemicals are very effective foaming agents, chemically known as surfactants.
SLS and SLES are esters of Sulphuric acid - SLS is also known as "Sulfuric acid monododecyl ester sodium salt", however there are over 150 different names by which it is known - see them here. In fact, SLES is commonly contaminated with dioxane, a known carcinogen.
Although SLES is somewhat less irritating than Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, it cannot be metabolised by the liver and its effects are therefore much longer-lasting.
A report published in the Journal of The American College of Toxicology in 1983 showed that concentrations as low as 0.5% could cause irritation and concentrations of 10-30% caused skin corrosion and severe irritation. National Institutes of Health "Household Products Directory" of chemical ingredients lists over 80 products that contain sodium lauryl sulfate. Some soaps have concentrations of up to 30%, which the ACT report called "highly irritating and dangerous".
Shampoos are among the most frequently reported products to the FDA. Reports include eye irritation, scalp irritation, tangled hair, swelling of the hands, face and arms and split and fuzzy hair. The main cause of these problems is sodium lauryl sulfate.
Click here to learn of the possible health effects of SLS/SLES
So why is a dangerous chemical like this used in our soaps and shampoos?
The answer is simple - it is cheap. The sodium lauryl sulfate found in our soaps is exactly the same as you would find in a car wash or even a garage, where it is used to degrease car engines.
In the same way as it dissolves the grease on car engines, sodium lauryl sulfate also dissolves the oils on your skin, which can cause a drying effect. It is also well documented that it denatures skin proteins, which causes not only irritation, but also allows environmental contaminants easier access to the lower, sensitive layers of the skin.
Perhaps most worryingly, SLS is also absorbed into the body from skin application. Once it has been absorbed, one of the main effects of sodium lauryl sulfate is to mimic the activity of the hormone Oestrogen. This has many health implications and may be responsible for a variety of health problems from PMS and Menopausal symptoms to dropping male fertility and increasing female cancers such as breast cancer, where oestrogen levels are known to be involved.

To find hair, personal and household products without ANY SLS or other harmful chemicals, please click this link - SLS-free products.
Do not believe that just because a product is labeled as "natural" it is free from SLS or SLES. Most common brands of "Natural" or "Herbal" shampoos and cleansers still use these harmful chemicals as their main active ingredient - check your labels!
The potential effects of SLS on health are discussed here and the NLM's data on the subject is available here."
http://www.natural-health-information-centre.com/sodium-lauryl-sulfate.html
"This inexpensive detergent is commonly used in cosmetic cleansers, hair shampoos, bath and shower gels, bubble baths, etc. - It is probably the most dangerous ingredient used in skin and hair-care products. In the cleaning industry SLS is used in garage floor cleaners, engine degreasers, car-wash soaps, etc. It is very corrosive and readily attacks greasy surfaces.
Sodium lauryl sulfate is used throughout the world for clinical testing as a primary skin irritant. Laboratories use it to irritate skin on test animals and humans so that they may then test healing agents to see how effective they are on the irritated skin.
A study at the University of Georgia Medical College, indicated that SLS penetrated into the eyes as well as brain, heart, liver, etc., and showed long-term retention in the tissues. The study also indicated that SLS penetrated young children's eyes and prevented them from developing properly and caused cataracts to develop In adults.
May cause hair loss by attacking the follicle. Classified as a drug in bubble baths because it eats away skin protection and causes rashes and infection to occur.
Is potentially harmful to skin and hair. Cleans by corrosion. Dries skin by stripping the protective lipids from the surface so it can't effectively regulate moisture.
Another extremely serious problem is the connection of SLS with nitrate contamination. SLS reacts with many types of ingredients used in skin products and forms nitrosomines (nitrates). Nitrates are potential cancer-causing carcinogenics.
Because of the alarming penetrating power of SLS, large amounts of these known carcinogens are absorbed through the skin into the body. A variation of SLS is SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate- SLES). It exhibits many of the same characteristics and is a higher-foaming variation of SLS."

If I need rambling diatribes on yoga, coconut oil, greasy skin, and lesbians who hate me, I'll go to you. Otherwise? I'm good.
EDIT: I can use Google too, and look! Mine doesn't have to be longwinded!
Why do you use SLS in your products? Isn't this dangerous
The lauric acid part of SLS is derived from coconut oil (editors note: LOLLERCOASTER) but by the time it reaches our bottles it is so far removed from the original form we think it's more accurate to call it a synthetic - but if we chose to we could say it is derived from coconuts. SLS is derived from natural ingredients - once upon a time - but we give it a black colour code in the QIs because we think it's taking the mickey to call it natural. Some cosmetics companies make quite daft claims for cosmetics ingredients which may once have originated in a plant, calling them 'pure' and the like. We don't. The Costmetics Ingredient Review (CIR) expert panel says SLS is safe for use on the skin as long as you wash it off. There are many surfactants and only the amphoteric surfactants are allowed in cosmetics as they are the mildest. You're more likely to get an allergic reaction to an essential oil than you are to SLS; just because something is natural, it definitely does not mean it's safe. Cyanide is derived from almonds; it'll still kill you. SLS has been the subject of a mud-slinging campaign which was spread through the internet and alternative health outlets. It was very difficult to trace its source but it was finally tracked back to a manufacturer of a rival surfactant which shamelessly exploited people's good intentions to sell more of its stuff. Lush uses ingredients which are as safe as we can get, without resorting to animal tested products and sticking to as many natural ones as we can. There are many new surfactants but we don't think they have been adequately tested yet. SLS has been around for decades and although it's not perfect, neither is lemon juice. Some people are allergic to mangoes but somehow a campaign to ban the use of mango from Lush products doesn't have to the same ring to it. Loads of people are allergic to almonds and sesame seeds but we still use those. We wish it were a simple matter but it's not. Some people think it is, but it isn't. Honest. In the meantime we use it because we think it's so far proven to be the safest thing out there. Some of the newer alternatives may prove to be safer but we don't know that yet so we won't use them. It really is and cheap too! And I had never heard of it but now I'm completely devoted. I used to buy really expensive ones, so it just goes to show.

Yes...I LOVE it. Paula tried it, hated it, Pattie also was using it - but I don't know if she still is....
Of course we all have different skin types - but the Revlon one I've been using has been a God-send, blends well with my skin and I don't get oily...but I also don't stay all nasty dry...it's perfect (well for me anyway).

Cool. I'm definitely going to buy some then, it sounds just what I'm looking for, as the ones I've been using either make my skin greasy or way too dry.

Don't get mad at me because your awesome hair product has what many scientist/other agree is a poison toxic oil stripping ingredient. I was just trying to help. I didn't mean for my nasty information to ruin your day and make you mad.
BTW, I can't wait for your next lip balm opus.
amber? I know exactly what the ingredients are. I am fully aware of the 'dangers' of SLS. I have made an informed choice about the product, and I'm not recommending it to people blindly. You certainly were NOT trying to help, as evidenced by the debbie downer comment. Don't give me that bull****.
I hope you enjoy my next lip balm opus as much as I enjoy your next opus about the lesbians hating you and your bun, or perhaps, if we're lucky, Conshocken. Can't wait.
Trackie & Deanna- I'm so glad you both tried the mint julep!! I love that stuff. If you use facial scrubs, I'd recommend the scrub version. It's great, as is their honey/oatmeal, which is a lot more gentle.

Hayley, I've got that too! I'm a proper convert to Queen Helene now!
I'm going to try the Lush shampoo you said too. I love their stuff but the overwhelming smell in their shops just knocks me out, so I don't go in too often.

How am I supposed to know what you know? I put "Debbie Downer" because though I was trying to be helpful, it was still a Debbie Downer thing, just by the nature of the information. I thought I'd insert a light moment.
I wouldn't have bothered to put anything, or respond to you at all, if I didn't think it would be helpful. As you might recall, I rarely, if ever, talk to you. This is why, because you think I have motivations I don't have, and are always a raging bitch to me. Which is fine, I was still trying to be helpful, as you said your hair is so important and beautiful, and SLS is stripping.
And maybe, though you didn't care, and already knew, someone else might have cared and not already known.
The reason I checked your product in the first place is because it sounded good, but I wanted to see the ingredients before I thought about buying it. And lo, it had one I didn't want on my hair, and I thought maybe others would feel the same, so I posted an alert.
So, haley? Basically you are totally wrong about my motivation. I understand you like to take those opportunities to slam me for no reason, though, and I can take it, who am I to ruin your fun, even if you totally make up the reason for doing it? No big. And don't give me any bull**** that you don't do exactly that.
Oh, and I think what you write about is boring, too, so we're all evened up on that.
Who didn't get a job until they were 30? I've had one since I was 16. And before that, I did massive family chores since I was 7.
Look! I can use middle finger pics, too!

Just to warn - the first couple of times I used it it DID keep my skin way dry - I thought it was crap - but I kept at it -and within a few days it was fabulous

I've been using the new Queen Helene moisturizing mask, with shea butter and vitamins. I really like it! I'll have to try that mint one y'all are raving about.
I can't say enough good things about Kiehl's products! Especially their eye creams.
The lady I get facials from told me the only type of scrub someone past their 20's should use is the gentle, microbead kind. The heavier scrubs literally make little cuts into your skin and make it saggy! I know sometimes I like the feel of the rougher scrubs, cuz I feel like I'm really getting in there. I used to alternate between regular and gentle, but alas, I gave up the hard stuff!
I recently picked up the L'Oreal version of the bare minerals foundation powder. I really like it! I don't have to use both a liquid foundation and loose powder, it's like both combined. It goes on light, really stays on and I don't have any shiny spots at lunchtime that need powder.

I have a question: does anyone use MAC or BOBBI BROWN products?
I think Bobbi Brown is an american brand, but I don't know about MAC (I believe that they are both some sort of Estee Lauder's affiliates though)
I have a couple of friends who are professional make up artists and they are all crazy about MAC. I, on the other hand, not so much.

MAC is about all I'll use. love it.
Bobbi Brown is nice for fish (that's queer talk for real girls) because it's really natural and soft.
Oh all right (didn't know about "fish"):o
I think both brands have a great selection of eye-shadows. I am a sucker for natural/beige/light-brown eyeshadows and MAC and Bobbi Brown have lots of them.

you may want to look at Mally Cosmetics. she specializes in bronzers, browns and lots of neutral beiges.

The only thing that I don't like is the fact that it is a liquid and I am kind of messy and not to mention very lazy. I think that I am going to try the MAC studio fix once again just for the fact that it is easier to use.
They just opened up a Sephora in Providence Place Mall the other day. I was going to try that 'Kiss Me" mascara that a few people were raving about on another board but it was $24.00. It also did not curl the lashes. I saw that the Dior Show curled the lashes and was $23.00. It was also highly recommended by the staff. I got that instead along with some Sephora brand lip plumpers.
On a related note does anyone have any favorite fragrances either new or old?

Hmm..I guess if one isn't used to liquid it can get messy - I started on liquid - and while I would love the convenience of a foundation/powder in one but every one I've tried just makes me skin out of control oily..I mean I look just gross within an hour or two  Even Clinique...
Anyway - fragrances...a very sore spot with me right now. I LOVE Sueded Musk, a Gap Scent...well they've discontinued it
So I'm now going to have to hunt for another scent...
I do love Calvin Klein's Obsession..it just doesn't smell great on me,but when I smell it on others or in the store...*swoon* I adore it.

I tried a magazine page of Juicy Couture recently - rubbed it on my wrists - it's lovely.
I love just about anything by Christian Dior - Dolce Vita is probably my favorite. Don't waste your money on large bottles of perfume - they usually go bad before you get 1/2 way through a bottle. I like to get those sampler sets w/ the tiny bottles. Calvin Klein has some great fragrances too. And some of the knock-offs of the expensive stuff aren't too bad!

I just don't understand why you feel the feel to add something to every single argument that Amber willingly brings upon herself. It just looks bitter to me and I don't really see its worth in the scheme of things. That argument was over and done with and I didn't see why it needed to be dragged up again. It's not the first time you've done that either.
But I guess if it makes you happy.

I still think you're the one who comes off bitter by interjecting in arguments that aren't yours.

Well, more than one person can think the same thing. In this case, its the fact that Ambyss is a beeyotch. Yep. I cant help what brings you down. Thats not my issue. Apparently you arent aware of who is connected to which argument or you wouldnt open your mouth. Anyway, I think you're on the wrong side of the fracas......
But why bring up a dead argument that Hayley handled so well on her own? Hayley only responded to something that had been said directly to her.
And maybe I'm not the only one who is fed up when they see drama like that continued for no good reason, other than for personal feuds (which I thought was against board regulations anyway).
I'm well aware Amber is hated by some people here on this board and a lot of that she's brought on herself, but your continued attack of her puts you on the exact same level in my eyes. It's not something I see Deanna do, who she balantly targeted a while back.

I already answered that: I was just brought up to date on a thread/topic.
RE: personal feuds: give me a break! surely you are smarter than that???
as for what level I am on in your eyes, please send me a postcard, and ask me to care. Good Grief. I dont give a FLYING **** what I do or dont do that meets with your approval. Got it?
Yes, but the argument had nothing to do with you. I don't see what the date of the argument has to do with it. There was no need for you to contribute, it was between Hayley and Amber. Plus you had nothing to say on the subject, it was just a list of things Amber had posted that you wanted to belittle.
There are plenty of people here who don't get on with Amber, but it's just you who always interjects in arguments that aren't yours with an insult. So yes, I believe that's a personal feud.
I'm well aware you don't care what I think, although just so you know I'm not the only one who thinks it. Anyway, that's all I have to say on the subject.

Deanna, I took out quite a few of my comments in the interests of peacemaking. I can see Trackaghost's point, that it wasnt my fight, and Hayley really DID do a good job of responding on her own. That doesnt mean I wont step in from time to time, but in this case, in this thread, I really didnt belong.
Thanks for sticking up for me my friend :xoxo:
Ah ok - I see her point...and understand...I deleted my post too so as not to look like a random attacker :o

I wash my face with Lever bar soap in the shower.
Then some Hope in a Tube around the eyes and mouth.
Tweeze brows.
Make-up. I've decided I really LOVE it lately. Especially eye shadow. I wear whatever color I feel like or whatever will match my clothes.. Browns, pinks, purples, greens, blues. Brands are Sephora, POP, Too-Faces, Urban Decay. Dark shadow in the crease, a medium shade on the lid and a light shimmery shade above crease.
Eyeliner to match shadow color. Smudge some shadow under the eyeliner. If going out, I'll add some Urban Decay glitter to the corners of my eyes.
Mascara - Rimmel. I have pretty long lashes, but kind of fine.
Then after eyes, just a pressed powder on face and some blush on cheeks. I don't wear foundation, never have. I hate it and hate the feeling of a lot of make-up on my face.
Lips are either chapstick or some sort of gloss or plumper. Currently using LipFusion. I like but really don't notice much plumping action.
So, take me into a Sephora and I can literally shop the hell out of that store. I can be in there for HOURS.
Oooh a makeup thread...I will have to go thru all of this and see what new goodies I can find out about :)

i am a reformed product whore. i shudder to even think how much money i've spent over the years on different products.
you know those girls who have such flawless skin, it seems almost translucent? yeah i'm not one of them. but every time i ask them what their secret is, they give me the "oh i just wash with water, don't wear makeup too often, blah blah blah" routine. so i've decided to try it out.
right now i'm only washing my face with water and using kiss my face's face factor sunblock.
then i apply a little aveda foundation, only on the areas that really scream for it. after that i put on some mascara (that is something i can't compromise on), a little lip gloss (nars in baby doll), eh voila.
of course if i have to go somewhere special, then yes, i will bring my inner product sluttiness back out in full force. but for the day to day, i'm trying to keep it simple. not sure how long this is going to last, but so far i like that i don't have to spend a lot of time getting ready in the morning. plus, no one's run screaming from me yet, so i guess i'm not looking truly hideous.

that's what i do, except that i use a foaming, pore cleansing daily cleanser in the shower every day or third day. i apply a moisturizer liberally all over my face every and neck other night (or so) before i go to bed.
if i wear any makeup through the weekdays, it's typically a bit of eyeliner (estee lauder) or a lip gloss (hempz). if i need to wear "full-faced" make up, i use bare minerals. a light amount of the "foundation", very light amount of the glow/warmth/glee (whichever i'm using at the time), and light mineral veil. the only difference in my day and night make-up is typically the addition of eyeshadow (estee lauder) and lipstick (estee lauder or lancome).
i like MAC and aveda products, but they aren't readily available here, and i don't really want to order lipstick in the mail.. i'm scared of getting a melty mess.
but yeah, i don't wear any makeup at all most days, and bothering with most facial cleansers and masques only MAKES me break out since i don't usually have any blemishes at all.

Get up.
Pee.
Get on the scale.
Shower.
In the morning I only wash my face with water.
Get dressed.
Tweeze eyebrows.
Use an oil-free daycream. Mostly L'Oreal.
Kanebo foundation.
Then I put on black liquid eyeliner - Bourjois Paris.
Apply mascara. Bourjois.
Bourjois Paris blusher also, brown-gold tinted. Very lightly across the cheekbones.
Bourjois Paris newest lipgloss, dark brown tinted. I love this stuff. ( http://www.bourjoisusa.com/whatsnew/136 )
Fix hair. Usually mousse it up and press curls in them. But sometimes I like to wear it straight.
Put in earrings.
Put on deoderant. (Rexona)
Put on eau de toilette. Right now I wear the Giorgio Armani Sensi most of the time. Last month I was on a Isabella Rossellini Manifesto kick.

Where is the thread where Jazzy asked if anyone knew some good stuff with hylauronic acid and some other thing?
Anyway, Jaz, I was at whole foods last night getting my pumpkin peel and antioxident mask, when I noticed that the same company makes a hyalauronic acid thingy. I love all their other products I've tried, too. The company is MyChelle. You can order from them online, or they may have them at your whole foods as well.
Many people I know, including myself (this is related to above posts, not to Jaz) find their skin looks best and has least breakouts when they keep cleaning with anything but water to a minimum. Of course I get microdermabrasion and use pumpkin peel as well, to get rid of dead skin, clogged pores, etc.

I have not heard of MyChelle. Is it cream products you use?
Now, when you say pumpkin peel, do you mean actual natural pumpkin or some kind of product with pumpkin peel in it, and if so, what is the brand?
I use fine sugar sometimes as a scrub, when I go on trips, the little sugar packages you use for coffee? It really makes my skin very smooth, and the moisturizer goes on nicely, and it is one less tub of lotion to pack in a suitcase, LOL.

I really like the mousse whip foundation [god that sounds like a dessert  ] its light, and not as oily as the liquid stuff. I reccomend Estee Lauder
but because it costs an arm and a leg, sometimes I use the maybelline stuff. thats not as nice, but it works.

OOh I love the Mugler Angel perfume too, everyone always compliments that one. I HATE Bare Minerals, I know so many people love it, and it looks great on the commercials, but it looks like dog doody on me. UGH. It is probably my weirdo skin, not the product. I use Princess Marcella Borghese foundation, and La Mer foundations, they are two of the only ones who don't cake or look crappy on my skin. I have that lovely "combination" skin, with the horrid shiny nose after an hour and dry cheeks that want to flake if you look at them too long. LOL. But I love makeup. And I always know there is "the one" lipstick, and "the one" foundation and powder that will make me look 21, unflawed and rich, but I haven't found it yet.

The whole line is natural. The brand is MyChelle. You can find them online. The pumpkin peel is made of pumpkin...pumpkin wine, pumpkin extract, whatever. It's a cream type thing. The fruit acids help dissolve your dead skin, so the fresh layer is left behind. I read a long time ago that it puts little tears in your skin and if you use grainy products to scrape it, so I don't use those - except dermabrasion, which is different.
It's basically like getting a mild fruit acid peel at the skin doctor place. They also have a fruit acid peel that is the same thing, but fruit instead of pumpkin. I like both, but the pumpkin one just smells soooo good. I've found all their products that I've tried to work very well. And of course, they are natural, so I like that.

I do love things that are natural, and smell good too.
I have a Whole Foods store here, and they have a huge natural skin / makeup section, which I always go thru as it smells awesome, so I will look to see if they have this line next time and pick up something!

see, i kept waking up at 3 AM to the "omg leslie's beauty secrets omg awesome!!1" infomercials, and was like, "yeah, right, whatever." so one day, i noticed that my mom had ordered some. i was like, "you fell for that?" she goes, "no seriously, try it. it's as good as they say it is." so i tried it.. and i have not used any of my regular makeup (i've always used estee lauder, since high school) since, except eyeshadow and lipstick. i have the package that includes the various face powders.. i'm thinking i'll spring for the BM eyeshadow and lip stuff soon, though.
it is expensive, but you use SO LITTLE of it. not wearing makeup everyday.. it lasts me for-freakin-ever. i highly recommend it, especially since you seem to have concerns about keeping your complexion clear. it is so light.. you don't even know it's there, truthfully.
as far as perfume goes.. i always use estee lauder beautiful or obsession. occasionally lancome poeme. vary rarely one of the other 10 million scents i have stuffed up in the cabinet. (i have a lot of beauty supplies that i never, ever use.)

Cold compress!
I have one of those gel eye mask thingies that I keep in the fridge. You can freeze them too. Very refreshing.
Or put a couple spoons on ice for awhile. Lay down, place them on your eyes for a few minutes.
St. Ives used to make a really nice cucumber eye gel that was great for puffiness. I haven't seen it around where I usually shop, but maybe they still sell it.

you need something with Vitamin E and aloe if you can find it.
a couple of things you may want to research and try:
Babor lifting eye cream
Bliss all-around eye cream
Elizabeth Arden Prevage eye cream (really $$$)
Bliss sleeping peel age-minimizing eye gel
I did a little research for you and picked what I found as most recommended for your ~*problem*~ :D
other things:
are you getting too much sodium or drinking more alcohol than usual - getting enough sleep? that can cause puffiness.

preparation H is a good thing to use occasionally for an immediate fix, but it's not good for long-term use as it contains blood vessel contricting properties. it can cause severe headaches. also, be sure not to get any in your eye. it literally only takes a dab.

right. good thinking. I also looked it up and it said the largest reason for this are, the things you mentioned (sodium, alcohol, lack of sleep etc) but also allergies. they recommended talking antihistimine during allergy season and removing makeup before bed, so no particles get in your eye and cause irritaion. which in turn, causes you scratch your eyes, or rub them.

I just wanted to let anyone that may be looking for a good daily face wash that smells great, has a little exfoliating properties and doesn't leave your face feeling dry and tight - you should try Foaming Face Wash by Bliss. it's really great.
You should also try fruit enzyme cleanser by Mychelle. Mmm, fruit acid exfoliation...*drool* But I'll try yours, too, it sounds good.
This might be too detailed for the forum, but Jaz, and others with really clear skin, which is everyone I have met on here - you're able to use cleansers regularly? Like, twice a day? I've tried lots, with different, ever more pure things, since I was little, and if I over cleanse my face always breaks out. And I mean "overcleanse" like once a day. And I when I was young, I cleansed all the time, but when I stopped, my skin cleared. It's like it found it's own natural emollient balance.
I would think you guys with not much oil in your skin would just be stripping it of its own oils. I guess you guys wouldn't get pimples from it, but my reaction to cleansing a lot is immediate and obvious with a breakout.
My best thing is like once a week super exfoliation with fruit enzymes and microdermabrasion, and otherwise with just water and random cleansings once or twice a week.
Anyway, that just trips me out is why I ask. Also I am thinking, you guys with dryer skin - that must be why moisturizer is so important to you. But then, if you just rinsed your face with warm water, would you need as much moisturizing? I'm thinking when I use cleanser, my skin thinks it is dry, and makes oil. So maybe that is the same for you, but it's not as obvious, cause you wouldn't get actual pimples from it, you would just seem really dry, therefore you would moisturize.
But it's like, you guys wouldn't know that you could just rinse with water, or that your cleanser was drying you, because you wouldn't get pimples. You would just have dry face.
So then, if you wouldn't get pimples, why use so much cleanser? Have any of you ever let your skin be for awhile, with just a warm rinse or makeup removing then a warm rinse? Anyone?
Just curious. I know how addictive products can get. It's just hard for me to believe that all you kids with really nice, dry skin really need to cleanse soap wise that much, or have so much maintenance. I have the worst skin ever, and it does better with minimal cleansing interference. Super exfoliation once a week-ish seems to do it better. It's hard for me to imagine you guys would need that much maintenance.
Like, if any of you have skipped daily cleansing for a bit, what has happened? My friend has that nice skin, and she doesn't use cleanser on it at all besides water, but does use moisturizer. Her skin looks fine and great. I think she does the same for her hair, little shampoo and all conditioning, but that is a different story. lol. She really hates her hair to have any fuzzy qualities, it's curly, but she must have it laying flat, no fuzzies or poofies allowed.
Discuss.

actually, I think you're right. I cleanse as lightly as possible. I don't scrub my face morning and night. most often, I just let the shower head rinse my face in the morning and then at night is when I use cleanser. and that's just to get all the grime from the day off my face and prep for product.
I got that as a free sample two times ago at Sephora. I haven't tried it yet, but I look at it every day and think about it. Does it remove make-up too? I'll try it.

I've definitely decreased my cleansing frequency over the past several months - actually, I think I discussed my sudden dryness issues in this thread back then. I have combo skin, so my T-zone is very oily & I've always beeen a zitface, yet my cheeks & jawline started getting really flaky dry.
Like Jazzy, I now rinse with plain water in the morning & then use cleanser (currently it's Clinique foaming face wash) at night to get all the makeup/dirt/bacteria/ pollutants/filth off before I go to bed. I exfoliate twice weekly (right now it's L'Occitane Delicious Almond Paste - heavenly!) I now moisturize before bed AND in the morning. I have not gotten more pimples, but my dryness is still an issue. Like, you wouldn't notice it until I put makeup on (esp. any powders) but then it's awful looking. I've tried 3 or 4 different moisturizers (Aveeno Positively Radiant, Oil of Olay Complete, some natural honey stuff) to no avail, and I was actually just thinking of going back through this thread to get more recommendations.
I think part of the problem is that we have really hard water here - dries the skin terribly. We go through gallons of lotion in the winter especially. :p

I only wash with water, except for pore cleanser in the shower every 3 to 4 days or so. I've really been blessed with good skin and a good complexion.
My face is mostly balanced, but my T zone is a combination area.. the sides of my nose can get oily (during the day, sometimes i'll use the clean and clear oil absorbing powder to take care of that), but between and around my eyebrows can get very dry. Particularly in winter. The only moisturizer I will use is Dove's Deep Moisture facial cream (in the little pot, with a blue lid).
It's rare that I wear make-up these days, but if I do, I use one of ten random facial cleansers laying around my house... there's a clinique foaming one, a clean and clear foaming one, and some dove something or other. But the next day, I will be very, very dry around my eyebrows. Sooo, after I wash and pat off the drops of water, but remain damp, I kind of slather on the Dove Deep Moisture and sleep in it.
Other than that, after washing with water in the morning, I don't pat dry. As soon as it's dry to the point of just not dripping, but still quite damp, I put on a light amount of the deep moisture to seal it in. Again, I don't wear makeup often these days, but I would imagine that it'd be best to wash, put the moisturizer on, and give it several minutes to "penetrate" (oh BARF i hate that word) before applying makeup.
With your skin type being somewhat different, it may or may not work, but it might be worth a shot!

I have the same problem - and also recently read through some of the thread for recomendations.
In the end I just got a Buf Puf (anyone else heard of these?) and a moisturizer with Vitamin E and some other stuff - and so far that has helped...though I have to put on a ton....
I complained and complained about how oily my skin was while living in Rochester - now it's super dry
I'm going to Rochester next week - I was hoping some of that Easter moisture would stick itself into my skin again :p
Oh and the moisturizer I ended up using was Loreal something or other (yes, really helpful, I know). Oil of Olay did nothing for me - I liked how light it was - but my skin would still get super dry.

Sarah - I rinse, pay dry & try to moisturize right away to let it absorb before applying my makeup - probably a good 10 minutes. I assume the Dove cream you use works well for you?
Dee - I remember Buf Puf!
Jaz - where would I get these products? Sephora?

Very well. Using it heavily at night time before bed (which I rarely do, again, because I don't wear makeup and have to cleanse with product at night) makes my skin COMPLETELY different in the morning. Very, very soft. At night it feels sopping wet because I do put it on thick, but it's absorbed by morning.
I've had the same jar of it for quite a long time.. I don't use it all over face, just in the dry spots. Without makeup and cleansers, it only takes a very little bit. Tip of the finger little bit to get all of my eyebrow area. :) And, the bonus is that it's not expensive at all!

In the morning I wash with luke warm water and Boots Botanics Skin Brightening Deep Clean Gel, rinse, pat dry and apply Dickinson's witch hazel on a cotton pad as a toner. After skin is calm, I follow with Boots Botanics Responsive Moisture Lotion. I prep my brows with brow gel and brush them into shape nicely, use a nice taupe shadow on my lids with a very sheer sand shade on the brow bone...no eyeliner, nice defining mascara, sweep the face with sheer light bronzer or a rosy blush with a big brush and finish with L'Oreal Spiced Cider lipstick. (rosy with a cidery tone) it really makes my aqua eyes pop. I have all the friggin expensive lipstick brands and I like the L'Oreal one the best. The whole look is very fresh. It can be more dramatic if you leave off the sheer bronzing powder for a paler look. I don't wear foundation because I don't like the feel of it, and thankfully I don't need to cover anything.
In the winter I do experience dryness on my nose because it gets cold and dry here in the winter! When this nose thing happens I use this stuff called Cornhuskers Lotion. It has been around since like 1875 and it's supposed to be a heavy duty hand treatment. The great thing is, it's oil-free so it won't clog pores. Yay!
To exfoliate I use some sugar from the kitchen and mix it in with my favorite cleanser, works great!!!!!!
If I have any oil on my face at all I will quickly get rid of it with Clean & Clear sheets (THE BEST!!!)

I just remembered - I bought some Boots toning spray (or something like that - I'll have to check when I get home) because I thought it sounded good. Hasn't done anything for my skin, but it is cool & refreshing.
EDIT: It's Booth's, not Boots.

Dove's Deep Moisture facial cream (in the little pot, with a blue lid).
I'll have to try this cause I love Dove.
so, you use this as your daytime and nightime moisturizer? does it have an spf?
see, that's the problem I run into. I've been wearing spf since I was 16 and it's hard to find a daytime moisturizer that moisturizes and protects without being greasy, heavy and just gross. that's my challenge. finding that perfect balance.

Yes, day and night. It does have SPF, but I don't recall if it says a particular number SPF. Probably 15 if I had to guess. If you apply very liberally, it could probably feel very oily (like it does when I really slab it on at night time if i've had to remove makeup), but since it is a "deep moisturizer", for my needs I don't had to use more than a few little dabs. It's like $5 bucks, so it's worth a try if you're looking for no frills. It's also fragrance free, hypoallergenic, and non-pore-clogging.
There's also a Dove Deep Moisture facial lotion, but I haven't tried that.

Bingo, my problem as well. It seems like it is either a good moisturizer or an spf - but not both. I use the Hope in a Jar and I love it. Initially, I didn't like it because after the first time I used it, I broke out (and I never break out). Then, I just started putting it on sparingly as opposed to slathering it on and I've loved it since. However, no SPF. I'd like to find a good two in one. If you find something, let me know.
I still have to get on Ebay and get some samples of LaMer to see if I like it. Are you still using it?

philosophy does have some moisturizers with spf in them, but I've yet to try one I like. I want to try shelter next. I'll let you know.
I will always keep a jar of La Mer, but I don't use it every single night like I used to. I only use it once a week or after I feel like my face just needs an extra rich cream

I love lip colors with rust/cinnamon/earthy tones. I'm a bit surprised to hear that you wear that color though, what with your honey wheat hair & aqua eyes. Sound like it would be a bit too harsh on you - maybe the color isn't as deep as it sounds? I personally try to stick with natural earth tones myself, they do bring out my greenish eyes. Although, I am unaware of a word that accurately describes my eye color. Hazel isn't quite right. Maybe I need a new word for the combination of colors. A poet and bestselling author I once dated called them 'an iridescent, shimmery green splashed with brilliant flecks of copper and dazzling touches of topaz.' Whatever the color, my husband, and many other men have been alternately hypnotized and intoxicated by it. Deep plum shadows & liners really make them pop.

I did get your text, btw. Thanks for the heads up. But since I just spent $150 at Sephora, I think I shouldn't buy any more makeup right now. Well, until I take you to Sephora. Oh, and Mikey's right. It's so much more than makeup.

I dab the lip color on over some lip balm. But the color isn't that deep to begin with.

^ Sarah - where do you get that damn Dove cream?
I haven't tried the tinted balm yet, but I've used the Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer for a while now. It's medicated & smells minty, and it's not drying at all. Great colors too - I thought they had discontinued Nutmeg, so I was using Coffee which was a bit too dark. I found Nutmeg at Target yesterday so I stocked up. Kind of a cidery color with a hint of shimmer - doesn't last as long as a lipstick though.

Well, maybe what I saw was the lip shimmers. Or do they have both tinted lip balm and something called lip shimmers? But I'm glad you told me about the medicated/minty thing. I prefer the honey Burt's Bees lip balm over the minty, and accidentally bought the minty one last time. I still use it, but when it's gone I'd like to try something tinted. I like using a subtle lip color during the day.
I'm addicted to Blistex Cherry Splash Lip Infusion. It's slippery like lip gloss, not at all like waxy lip balm.
