Does anybody have a live mp3 or video of Blue Lamp? How awesome would this sound if she added it back into her next solo set:blob2:

That would not be awesome at all - I hate "Blue Lamp". The best part of the song is the end part, and they fade it out!!!!

Blashphemer. I love BL. And thanks, GDW, I didn't know there was a live one.
The stars are crying at you, foxy. Not laughing and shining, just crying.

I still can't get over how revolutionary the Bella Donna tour was with that set list, including almost every song from the album AND throwing in outtakes!

"Blue Lamp" has some of the most ridiculous lyrics I have ever heard, even for Stevie, and the song is totally nonsensical.

The music is good though.... ;)

Well, the majority of her lyrics have never really made "sense" at first glance. ;)

Blue Lamp is all about living alone for the first time in a big empty house, right? Or was that Sable on Blond? Or are those two songs related?

Oh, well, duh. Every time I listen to it I think "these are weird, even for Stevie" and then I don't care, as usual. I do like the "stars laugh, cry, shine" part. Both the lyric and the music! ;)

Well, I never listen to it, so I will have to take your word for that ;)

All I can say is, thank God Stevie improved her solo material....

Me too. Though, she really had to do that as she wanted to distance herself from FM somewhat, though GDW and Dreams were in the set. But, she realy hauled it out for that.

I wonder how scared she was because she always says how FM learned early that the audience does not like too many new songs.

I think Blue Lamp is one of her best vocal performances. But the lyrics aren't her best. And the first verse troubles me. "I had looked everywhere...but the only lamp left on in the house was a blue light...". I think she got it backwards. It would make more sense saying "the only light left on in the house was a blue lamp....". I was listening to it the other day and noticed this for the first time. Anyone else agree? Overall, though, I love it and think it's very powerful.:)

I think you're right because in the demo the words are reversed. For the longest time, I thought it was strange that the title is never mentioned in the song.

Yes, when I am singing along to this song, I always switch the placement of those two words.

Anyways, I love this song, and I wish they had held onto it for Bella Donna. I have a demo recorded on October 15th, 1980. Given that the Heavy Metal soundtrack was released on January 1st, 1981 (before the real work on Bella Donna began), this early recording date could indicate why it was placed on the soundtrack. But the thing is, I also have a "How Still My Love" demo from the very same day. Would "How Still My Love" have been placed on the soundtrack in an alternate universe?

I was thinking the exact same thing as I listened to that mp3 I posted last night. Here we are 25 years later and I would give my right arm to hear that set list again.

Oooh. You're tempting the Welsh Witchian fates with that one. The lamp was a gift from her mother.

Stewardess: You can't take that lamp on the plane.

Stevie: Then you'll have to run me over because we're not going without the lamp!

Stevie: ...that's all I need. And this ashtray. The shawl, the paddle game, and the tamborine, and that's all I need. And these matches. The ashtray, and these matches, and the tamborine and the paddle ball. And this lamp. The ashtray, this paddle game and the tamborine and the Blue lamp and that's all I need. And that's all I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one - I need this. The paddle game, and the chair, and the tamborine, and the matches, for sure. And this. And that's all I need. The ashtray, the tamborine, the paddle game, this Rolling Stone magazine and the chair.
*Note, obviously this isn't funny is you have never seen Steve Martin's The Jerk

No, it was still funny. I literally was laughing out loud. I can't remember The Jerk, but the comediology is familiar. (I sooo wish I could get a job making up words. I'd be hella rich.)
You shoulda put in her dog, too.

That is what I said in the Blue Lamp interpretation thread. I thought it was kinda obvious that the Christmas Angel was her mom, but no one else thought that. Well, I didn't say the rest of the stuff about wanting to be an entertainer and leaving the nest, but whatever.

But isn't that so characteristic of Stevie's writing? And she actually does sing, or rather, slur the words "Blue Lamp" a few times before the last verse "And the light that shines through the shining night is the lamp..."

I don't know if anyone recalls, but Blue Lamp was Stevie's very first officially released solo song. It appeared on the Heavy Metal soundtrack album, just before Bella Donna was released. I was really excited for the fact that this marked the beginning of all the Fleetwood Mac members' solo offshoots.

My favorite lines:

Don't listen to her -- listen through her
