View Full Version : Mick and John on the new cd.......
I saw on cduniverse.com that both Mick and John were listed as being on Lindsey's new cd. I was hoping that Stevie's vocals were left on the " I am Waiting" track. I guess its still possible.

Oh no ! I just LOVE Lindsey singing "I am Waiting" all by himself - it's awesome!! Just like he did on his soundstage program !! Nothing against Stevie, of course.
I just want a Lindsey "solo" - hopefully that's what I'll get!!!

Flinging wide open the possibility that the aforementioned "second rockin' album" could very well morph into a new Fleetwood Mac album.

I hope no one takes it the wrong way, but I really hope it does not become a Fleetwood Mac album. At this point, I really only want Lindsey, solo. As much as I really like the other members, Lindsey is the real draw for me and I want him to have his own little rocking solo album with all his own songs sung by himself. And of course that is purely selfish, but I probably enjoy Lindsey solo albums the most of any FM-related stuff. I can't explain why, since I do enjoy the other member's songs and really like Stevie (and Christine, when she was in the group). But I kinda figure he should have his time to shine alone, and I've sort of had dreams about it for awhile- since I became a fan of Lindsey. And he's the reason why I even love FM the way I do, so I'm all about him. Alone.
But hell, if they release another Fleetwood Mac album, I certainly won't bitch. :)

I would like Stevie to sing back up on one song..'I Am Waiting' would be fine, since its a cover. I will be bummed if Mick and John are on the album but no Stevie. It is his time to shine, but one song is ok.

If it's just backing that she does, that would be great on a solo, he's still in the forefront - plus it's a great selling point.
I'd be happy if his second more rockin' cd was a Buckingham Nicks collaboration, that would be cool. They could still tour together with Mick and John as FM and these songs could totally fit in.

I`d bitch! Bring on the solo albums. Screw any FM tour plans or FM CD plans, which would delay the solo CD for years.

here here. i'm the same.. except that really, i don't enjoy anyone else's solo career. there are some stevie solo things i like, but on the whole? not interested in her solo career at all. i like christine, but her solo stuff kind of bores me to be honest.
i want a lindsey cd. lindsey only cd. he didn't need help on his others, and personally i don't WANT his cd to have another selling point. call me selfish, i don't care.. but i want a cd "to my fans, love lindsey".
make the money with the mac.. that's dandy. i want more fm for sure, but first, i want straight up lindsey doing what lindsey does best, taking another step in his evolution. which, imo, is the best thing for fleetwood mac as a whole at this point.

Well, then, the fact that he's RELEASING his material should dissappoint you, since what he does best is record songs and then never release them.

I get the feeling Mick & John's contributions on this first album won't be too overpowering. Let's assume that the Down On Rodeo version is the bass & drums version from GOS, which I understand Mick & John played on?
It doesn't mention Stevie though.

New Press Release:
FLEETWOOD MAC: MORE THAN BRICKS & MORTAR
Hit 1970s pop group Fleetwood Mac, with such enduring hits as Will You Ever Win and Don't Stop It'll Soon Be Here, is reuniting for a new album.
"I'd already finished most of the material for a solo album," lead guitarist Lindsay Buckingham explains. "But with the long history of turning every second solo album of mine into a band effort, I couldn't easily stop that cycle this time around either."
The tracks for the new group album of rehashed solo work will be re-recorded at a house in the south of LA which drummer Mick Fleetwood reports the band will be building by themselves.
"I guess it's a chance for everyone to get comfortable with each other again by doing heavy outdoors labour five days a week for four months," Fleetwood, 73, told sources. "We've already got all of the materials. Bricks, cement, wood - you name it. One of my charitable organizations in South East Asia, who were going to build an orphanage there, ran into some strife with the political problems in that part of the world, so I helped them out by relieving them of all the building supplies and shipping them back here to LA." Fleetwood, 82, remarks, "Unfortunately there was no room on board to ship back the workers from my organization. However we will be giving one lucky Mac fan a chance to travel through the region and try to find them for us. The prize package includes a brand new landmine-scoping kit!"
The female presence of the band its full 30 years, Stevie Knicks, mused, "Lindsey has always been telling me he wants do something from the ground up. I always assumed he meant a song. I guess he meant a house. You know, our lines of communication always have been a bit crossed."
Not Again will be released in early Spring, 2015.

Hello all---
I hope no one takes it the wrong way, but I really hope it does not become a Fleetwood Mac album. Alone.
I absolutely see your point, and I've always felt the exact same way about Lindsey's music compared to the band and the contributions of each FM member.
Having heard the GOS tracks for so long before SYW, it sort of spoiled it for me. I just didn't feel like it was a genuine new album. I am mostly a Lindsey fan, though I definitely like the band as well, and I have a lot of respect for each member's role in the band's sound. When I listened to SYW, I really missed Christine, and I'm not a huge fan of hers. What I missed was the chemistry that the five of them had---they really created something unique, and when she was gone, it changed. It wasn't bad...just different.
Even though I'm a Lindsey fan, I found myself listening more to Stevie's songs on SYW...mostly because they were truly new to my ears. But it was also because I think those songs reflected more true collaboration on the part of the whole band than the GOS songs did. Even though Mick and John played on some [though obviously not all] of the GOS songs, at that time, the tracks were still intended for a Lindsey solo album. They might have held back a little in offering input or that sort of thing because it was Lindsey's project, not a band one. I've also compared the GOS versions to the SYW versions, and---musically---there's very little difference between them. The main differences are vocal---the addition of Stevie on some of the songs. Several of the basslines sound like Lindsey played them, not John, who has a pretty distictive style. Mick's playing also has a lot of personality---the song "Gift of Screws" comes to mind---and it's obvious when he's behind the kit. On the other hand, I don't think he played on GOS songs like "Down on Rodeo." To me, that sounds like a drum/percussion loop with overdubbed additional percussion. On Stevie's SYW tracks, though, there's no question that Mick, John, and Lindsey are backing her up, and it shows in a glorious way.
Anyway, back on topic! I think, if the "rockin'" album ends up being a band album, it wouldn't be such a bad thing as long as it's truly a new album. Of course, we're jumping the gun a little, I think. Maybe it will become another FM album, but maybe not.
I certainly don't mind Mick and John backing Lindsey on the acoustic album or the rocking one. When my favorite band, Crowded House, broke up, the bassist said that he thought the main singer/songwriter, Neil Finn, would have a hard time finding a group of musicians who were as sympathetic to his songs as Crowded House, and I think the same thing applies to John and Mick with respect to Lindsey's music. Lindsey does great on his own, but John and Mick bring something intangible to the music, and I think it'd be just as interesting and good---though in a different way---with their participation.
So, yeah...basically, I'll take whatever Lindsey [and/or Mick and John] gives me! And I'll be happy to have it.

I agree on most of what you write, Matt. Especially the part of Mick and John backing up Lindsey. I think his electric record holds partially GOS-rock. There are some incredible gems left. They will be with M&J. New songs will not be with them cause I think we would have heard about new sessions around the buckinghamhouse. At least from Mick. On the other hand, Lindsey will have alot of tape with Mick and John tracks from the GOS and SYW sessions. And we all know how he is with tape and a studio. Wizardry.
But for me, my ultimate Lindseysolo-album that is never released is a threepieceband with his old mates. Rockin their socks of like sketching on canvas. After that someone has to tape lindsey thoroughly in the house with wife and children, so rick rubin can finish the mixing and engineering. Just for once without my hero himself painting in all details. And then a live tour without additions. just three guys rockin around, like in that short clip of Destiny rules, where they rehearse GYOW, and try to blow up Stevie's dog.

Sounds great to me. And Rick has already worked with Lindsey briefly---he produced the Tom Petty albums on which Lindsey contributed backing vocals.

Stevie .... love you to little pieces but please ... please ... don't touch this record!!
No disrespect to any of them, obviously, but I really want this to be Lindsey's thing. The fact that Stevie's mention on the cover of Soundstage was almost in bigger font than Lindsey's name was enough, surely?
This is Lindsey's party.... :) "This is the time!"

That always annoyed me. Singing backing vocals on 2 songs (and I don't even like them on either! Both sound better without here IMO) and she gets her name on the cover! It's such a shame the Lindsey and/or the record company felt the need to put her name on it to make it sell more.
I'll agree with everyone else in this thread and say: "Stay away, Stevie!!" Though I don't think she is on it, I'll be disappointed if she is anywhere on it, even really quietly.
