Mother of God the Charlies Angels faces look so tight, they can barely make any emotions......

Steve Carell totally deserved that lead comedy award....grrrr...

Yeah, but The Office won, so that was really cool. And Amazing Race, for the 4th year in a row!

How about Torri Spelling and her mom seated at opposite ends of the Shrine? Meeeoowww! Joan Collins still looks fab. And I've always thought Jaclyn Smith is one of the most beautiful women on earth!

I was happy to see Dick Clark out and about. That poor man...he's still got a ways to go w/ his recovery, but he really seemed in good spirits, so that made me happy.

All the women looked great - except I didn't think Candice Bergen's outfit was very flattering.

And all the men looked great - except Jeremy Piven, even though I was thrilled he won. I've said it before and I'll say it again - no man should wear an ascot unless you are Thurston Howell, III.

I called Bruce and left a message - "Purple is the new black." I was watching E! Not 30 seconds later, I switched over to NBC's coverage and heard Tim from Project Runway say the exact same thing.

Once again Six Feet Under overlooked and when it counts!!!:distress: Oh well they're number one in my book.
Speaking of Charlies Angels even though I wasn't even a glimiar in my parents eyes when they were on TV, I've personally always thought Kate Jackson was the coolest and prettiest Angel.
Also I missed what Gillian Anderson was nominated for. Can anyone tell me?

I cant wait for the Lifetime movie scene when they seat Candy Spelling to the right of the theater with her son and then seat Tori to the left. And the director instructs the camera men to be stationed in front of them at ALL points.
And what about the weeping widow routine that Candy pulled everytime the camera was on her?
I think we already have next years dramatic winner....

Farrah freaked me out. If purple is the new black, Farrah is the new Liza.
Nuff said.

How classy is Annette Benning? I adore her. Ditto for Stockard Channing.
And that was the BEST that Jane Kaczmerak (sp?) ever looked! Gorgeous!

The man that made me drool was McDreamy himself, Mr Patrick Dempsy.
Damn, he looked good.

I thought Conan did a great job of hosting. It was a fresh show.

Gotta love Dick Clark..bless his heart.

I thought Dick Clark looked MUCH better than Simon Cowell. What is up with his wardrobe? On IDOL he wears these ugly oatmeal colored tight t-shirts that do nothing but showcase his horrid man-boobs. And then, tonight, on the friggin' Emmy's, he refuses to wear a tie but shows off his sweaty upper torso that needs make-up and a trim. Get a gay friend or a new stylist, Simon.

Did I mention that Farrah looked like she needed another hit off that crack pipe ASAP?

All I have to say is that Katherine Heigl is GORGEOUS!!!

OMFG I could look at her for days (oh yeah, and Patrick Dempsey is pretty fine, too).

But anyway, it's a damn shame that she didn't get a nomination. Of all the ladies on Grey's Anatomy, her performance last season was by far the most memorable.

I thought the show was fantastic, from what I saw. Conan cracks me up anyway, and I really think he did a great job. The initial sequence? Hilarious. The opening plane crash part should have been edited out (I assume it was a reference to Lost, but with the recent events they could have taken that part out & it still would have made sense.)

Lost - "Dude. You shouldn't go down there." "Come on, don't you want to come too?" "Um, we weren't really invited this year."

South Park - "Dad, Conan O'Brian won't come out of the closet!" "Hey! Someone else is in here too!" Cartoon Tom Cruise walks out.

The musical "Gee, we're screwed" number was a hoot. And Bob Newhart. :D Scariest looking people - it's a tie between Farrah & Manilow. Paula Abdul looked ridiculous, and Simon's open collar with sweaty chest was gross. Dick Clark - good for him. He looked great.

"Mr. Jay" from America's Next Top Model was also sporting the no-tie-shirt-unbottoned-too-low-pimp-look. I am NOT diggin' it!

There really weren't any "upsets," that I could tell. Except for maybe Debra Messing losing to Julia Louis-Dreyfus, or for Will & Grace not getting best comedy series. But The Office is so deserving, I didn't care!

My favorite speech was the guy who pulled out the list of people he said he would NOT thank if he ever won something. :p Was that the Earl writer?

Deep dark eggplant purple is obviously the biggest trend right now.

I loved Kathy Griffin's dress, but I can't help but wish that she had gone with a purple too - would have looked fab with her hair.

Who the hell is Vanessa Minnillo? She looks like a hooker.

Sandra Oh - too much crap on her dress.

Tyra - she is one hot curvy sexy woman.

Debra Messing - shocked that she looked so good, I thought she's have been totally pasty & washed out in the dress. But it was great.

Heidi Klum - much better than previous atrocities I've seen her in. She looks good knocked up.

I love Kyra Sedgewick, her dress was stunning but I wish it weren't such a pale color. Longoria - go back to brunette, honey. I hated Patrick Dempsey's hair, and Ellen Pompeo's slicked back do wasn't doing it for me either.

I thought I liked Lisa Kudrow's dress, but at second glance it looks like a cheap bridesmaid's gown. Great boobs, though, and I love the sleeves.

Alfre Woodard looked gorgeous, what a great dress.

Louis-Dreyfuss looked hot too, I'm really glad she won. She's very funny on the show & NOTHING like her Seinfeld character. I think that was hard to do.

They crack me up.

Loved it when Jon said "I haven't told the guys this yet, but I'm going to announce it now. I've decided I'm going to kill Bob Newhart." Silence, stares at camera for 10 seconds.

For those of you that didn't watch, Conan brought out Bob Newhart in a glass booth & said that if the Emmy's ran over by even one second, the air would run out & Bob would die. Bob was incredibly funny, great physical comedy.

Wow, I can't believe there weren't more clothes here, it's my fave. Okay, my most bestest dresses/looking good in dresses. I'll pick three or four to narrow it. Also? I love Bob Newhart, always have, and always watched all his shows. Very underrated. Or maybe not. I just never hear anyone else say "I loooove Bob Newhart!" except my parents. He's like the Jack Lemmon of TV. I know what that means, god bless if you do to. I'd also like to mention that all the plastic, tight face, weird looking ladies freaked me out! Hey, Angels, I'm talkin' to you. Okay, Jacqueline Smith wasn't as bad, but I had to turn the channel when they were talking. Oh, and Alfre Woodard gets runner up for dress not on my list. Flattering, lovely. Didn't know she had such huge ones. Second runner up to Portia DiRossi - strange dress, but it works on her, and I've always thought she was gorgeous. For fun, I will also note the actress's signs.

Katherine Heigl - Sagittarius - just stunning. On the show I know she's pretty, but think of her as more the "cute" type. And she's had to grow on me as an actress. I think some kind of special regal part of her personality was in evidence here, I think there are untold depths.
Her presence truly took my breath away. And her body is so naturally perfectly beautiful. Made for evening gowns. The tallness, the hips and boobs, it all is perfect. And I love blondes in beige. Something Nicole Kidman does very well, too.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/antisnark/20_400.jpg

Julia Louis etc. - Capricorn - great fit for her, unusual design, and her body looked really good. Not to stringy, not too chubby, no discernable face work - just natural and good. Classy. And I love that she won. Really a natural, slightly unconventional beauty. May be slightly biased b/c I have been compared to her on a few occasions. Nah, she looks good. Especially for being short, and not too thin - normal muscly size. Totally perfect.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/antisnark/77_400.jpg

Yes, that's right - Ellen Pompeo. - Scorpio. I love purple, and I thought she looked beautiful. Not too skinny this year. The strapless worked. However, I did not, repeat did not, like her hair at all. Round face should never wear that hair. But I would love to wear that strapless, crushed velvet, purple dream. Her decollatage and collarbones are perfectly showcased here.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/antisnark/36_400.jpg

In the older ladies category - Jessica Walter. Aquarius. Classy, covered yet taylored - a la Jodie Foster's relationship with Armani. She can Play Misty for Me anytime. Clint was a fool to have eschewed her.
Are you listening Joan (collins) and Helen and the Angels? You're old now, no one wants to see your weird arms, and you can look stunning while covered up, if the tayloring is right. I think this outfit is gorgeous. Runner up in this category is Megan Mullaly. Even though she's not very old, and has a killer bod, I thought her outfit was classeh. I love the taylored cleavage pantsuit, what can I say?
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/antisnark/41_400.jpg

In the "non traditional beauty, but great dress" category - and only red dress on my list - Melanie Lyskey - Taurus (Hi, Paula!). Looks great with her dark hair and disturbingly pale skin. But I like how she and Portia and a couple others didn't fake tan themselves all out. Blerg. I know the dress has a bow, and is kind of fluffy, but it just works. The line stays slim despite the extras, and it is very flattering. I love red, and there were a couple pretty good ones, but I thought this was the best. It can be hard to make red work. It's odd to see her so thin, though, but I guess she was a bit chub in that movie...Heavenly Creatures. That's the last time I saw her, but she's done a bunch more things since. Which is great, she is talented. She's not too skinny or anything, just a contrast to the last time I saw her. She is actually very lovely. Her dark, dark hair contrasting with the red warms my heart. And a non traditional beauty speaks of truth to me, and I love truth. Did I mention before how much the tight faces and poofy lips horrified me? Let it go, girls, wear the taylored pantsuit, and just look great for your age. And if your face is different, we can tell if you have too much work. It looks ugly, just for your info. You look all stiff and weird. I would ten times over want to talk to this girl rather than some...abomination....*shocked* Hey, ladies, a little botox is cool, maybe one lift, but lets not get carried away, mmkay? I'd also like to salute Helen Mirren in this capacity (oh, those Brits!).
Melanie's brave lack of neckpiece here is refreshing, and a good choice as she is stunning without it. Who would'a thought?
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/antisnark/Melanie_400.jpg

Okay, what the heck, might as well put the runners up:

Alfre Woodard - Scorpio - I still love purple, and I still love a flattering fit, and here it is. And black didn't crack on those arms, though she is a lady of a "certain age". Just divine. Not in love with her light hair, though. But it isn't catastrophic. I never like hair too light for a person's skin tone. But my goodness, that is one hellavuh rack! You know, my friend who is AFA has a really big rack with slim arms. And I see the same thing all around town. Evolutionary advantage? I think so! laugh.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/antisnark/25_400.jpg

Portia de Rossi - Aquarius - Looking very much like Christina Applegate, oddly. Always been enchanted by her looks - and she looks great here. The gray works with her paleness, her face is gorgeous, and she's slim topped enough to carry off the ruffle straps. Beautiful slim, flowing line for rest of dress. It's actually a huge accomplishment, IMO, to make gray work that successfully. And my god, I just noticed her fire red clutch and nails. Exquisite. Taste to spare, this girl has. Ellen is a lucky woman. Me want.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/antisnark/10_400.jpg

And lastly, I would've liked Sandra Oh's - Sagittarius - dress, if not for the fug beads she wore. The straps were ruffly, and the dress was poofy, but she's slim enough to carry that off. And you have to be slim to do that dress, imo. It is a lovely confection, dreamy.
And, purple, again, I love purple (it seemed like there was more purple than usual this year).
But Oh! Those beads. Blech. To cover up those collarbones is a crime! Collarbones are the best part.
To be fair, the white dress she wore to the last thing was my favorite. But I cannot stress how important collarbones are, especially if you have good ones. A huge lapse in judgement.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/antisnark/75_400.jpg

And for my very, very runner up - Virginia Madsen. Virgo! a Virgo! Wow! Sept. 11!
I didn't like her dress that much, but it was pretty flattering, and she looked beautiful in it. Or, just beautiful. Radiant woman, has a touch of crazy and free in her eyes that makes her stunning, inimitable. And I, as always, salute that quality. Also a classic facial structure that does her well.
I've seen her in not a few "B" movies (Candyman, Prophesy) and she informs them - no shame in her game with the B movies. "B" actresses are remembered because they are remarkable, they are good, sometimes they are over the top. Actresses like her is what makes us love the B movies that we love. B actresses are actresses with a smidge less classical talent, or bankability, and a bundle more personality and watchability. They chew the scenery, and divinely so. No matter what the script, you can't look away when these ladies are on the screne. You have to watch, they are that compelling. That talent has been minimized, but to me it is invaluable. Some of our favorite ladies have been B in some of their movies. Bette Davis and Joan Crawford come to mind easily. Shelley Winters. Marilyn Monroe. Genevieve Bujold (I love her so much, if you haven't seen anything with her, you are missing out). Veronica Lake. Hedy Lamarr. Mercedes McCambridge. Tuesday Weld. Piper Laurie. Adreinne Barbeau (or "Boobo" as my dad would say). Jeanne Seaberg. Heck - Parker Posey (now called "Indie" instead of "B".) Gena Rowlands. Karen Black. Even, even the mom of yesterday's emmy winner, Mariska Hargitay - Jayne Mansfield.
Point is, I love this genre of actress, and think highly of their talent. Heck, even Natalie Wood has had B scripts. And filled them out magnificently, of course.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/antisnark/18_400.jpg

I'd also like to add that I do now, and will forever, hate Tyra Banks, though I am addicted to ANTM. God, I hate her. She's so fake, and so lame. So shallow, while trying not to be. Pretends she has emotions, but doesn't - can only approximate what real emotions may look like. And then fails again. Is a Sagittarius with Moon in Aries. Why even bother to pretend, miss lady? You're only doing disservice to people who actually feel sorrow. The effort is admirable, but no one is buying it, mmkay? And P.S., you make me cringe when you try to be understanding. If you just said "we all have problems, quit whining, and buck up" it would be far more believable. When you try to be sympathetic, you just make my flesh crawl. Like a lizard was running up my arm. Which reminds me of the temperature of your blood and how thick your skin is. Please cease to make me sick with your useless therapist posturings, and act like the self absorbed, thick skinned model dynamo that you are. I never thought I'd say this, but you could learn a lot from Miss Crazy Janice Dickenson - ie, she doesn't pretend to care about people when she doesn't, and she doesn't pretend to be less than fully self absorbed, like you really are. Seriously, everything you say/do makes me sick.

Also, I'd like to add that Stockard Channing (Aquarius) is a perpetual genius. She's so good that it is redundant for her to win awards. She's the Bette Davis of nowadays. I worship the ground she bitches and chews scenery on. The intelligence in her eyes makes her the Einstein of actresses. She is like a cat in the dark - once in a million years a lady like her rises. *recommending "Girl Most Likely To..." for everyone to watch.*
Long live Rizzo!
"I could flirt with all the guys,
Smile at them and bat my eyes.
Press against them when we dance,
Make them think they stand a chance,
Then refuse to see it through.
That's a thing I'd never do."

Best "making fun of lame other people" movie moments on screen, ever!

*mockingly, with derision and unflattering mimicry*
"Elvis, Elvis, let me be!
Keep that pelvis far from me!"

Lame overenthusiastic girl: "It's the most, to say the least!"

Rizzo: "The very least"*rolls eyes, laughs with friends at girl's super dumb lame-osity*

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/antisnark/54_400.jpg

And lastly, Annette Benning always is perfect. Maybe not necessarily as flashy, but always...just perfect. Her face is also perfect. Her acting tends to be perfect. She's all around perfect. And would Warren Beatty settle for less? Okay, he broke up with Isabelle Adjani, who was probably crazy, but besides that. That is just the thing - she's not crazy, she's not over the top, she's perfect. She wears clothes that are appropriate to her age/body/the occasion, and flattering, and her make up and jewelry is the same. Perfect.
Sadly, I have reached my ten image limit, or I would've posted a pic of her. She really is unfailingly lovely. Oh, and Gemini. And I do love her form fitting white satin here. Flawless. If the most womanizing man in Hollywood were to settle with anyone, I'm not suprised it is her, a vision of regular perfection.

Great review Amber! You so win over Cojo!

I particularly love the pairing of scarlett lips and bag on Portia...so beautifully done.

Oh and in regards to your one red dress nom, I can safely say that NO ONE rocks red better than Catherine Zeta Jones. That woman was made for red.

I forgive Jacyln Smith only because she bears a striking resemblance to my mother. And Jessica Walters' onscreen personality bears an absurd resemblance to my mother.

Yes, Portia really kicked it out with "a bunch of things very few people can pull off." Sure, she's gorgeous. That helps. But gray? With scarlett lips and paler than pale skin?! It's like a miracle. Okay, I may be biased, I've always thought she was really pretty. But still.
I'm kinda digging the girls who eschewed the tan.

Well, seeing as I am so fair I'm practically ghoulish, I can't help but root for the non-orange ladies too. No, CZJ was not there, but I mean in past history, no one has ever matched the carpet better than she has. The milky skin? The bittersweet dark chocolate tresses? The va-va-voom figure? And in RED? Dayim! You better work!

I wasn't feeling Ellen Pompeo though...still think she's too skeletal and the upper portion of her dress looked dangerously close to heading southbound. I know you hated the hair too, but it just ruined the whole picture for me.

I wasn't feeling Ellen Pompeo though...still think she's too skeletal and the upper portion of her dress looked dangerously close to heading southbound. I know you hated the hair too, but it just ruined the whole picture for me.

Have you ever visited www.gofugyourself.com? If not, I won't tell you anymore, just go there RIGHT NOW. You can thank me later.:wavey:

Hey, the south park on now is totally the Canada one. "What?! I thought there was only one road in Canada!" " There's no Canada like French Canada, etc"
And now to address what you actually said.
I have to say, CZJ is an incomperable beauty. Even to my eyes, that can see beauty a lot of places, I am mesmerized by her. She's a very multi ethnic beauty, too. She could be a gorgeous native american girl, or Mexican girl, or any countries' gorgeous girl. Her charm and facial symmetry, plus her awesome hair, overwhelmes me (figures she's a Libra). It's almost not fair, her charm/beauty. Plus, Welch bitch can sing and dance. She really is almost unfairly blessed. I alway try to find her shallow, and not likeable, but never, ever, can. She's gorgeous, talented, and I like her.
And there is nothing better than dark tresses and red dresses.

I feel you didn't really give Pompeo a chance. If you'll look again, she didn't look much skeletal. And, you can't fault her for being thin. I thought she picked a very flattering dress, both to compliment her slim figure, and her coloring. Yes, the hair was bad. But the clothes...the clothes were awesome. So, she's thin. It's not her fault, and she looks lovely, IMO. It was heading a bit southbound, but she may have the same philosophy as me: My boobs are so small that I can get away with that ****. :blob2:  I mean, seriously, who cares if you see a Pompeo nipple slip? You'll need your binoculars! I revel in my flattish chest, and I see her celebrating that here, appropriately. And it's not as if her dress actually did slip. I love it, I think she did good.(not with the hair.)
But what about Miss Heigl? She totally stole the show, IMO. And I'm not totally into the look, so you know I really think that.

Oh, hands down Heigl stole the show. I have always considered here a cutie, but she was a true bombshell last night and not in a try-hard sort of way. Absolutely, completely flawless. Best combo everything I've seen in awhile.

Okay, you're defending the Pompeo skinny? Really?? Is it because of the direct comparison from (I think) last year's Emmy's when she wore that white tablecloth that even though it concealed more skin, you couldn't mistake the jutting bones you could carve a turkey on? Was that last year's Emmy's? Do you know what I'm talking about?

Anyway, just because she was 110 pounds instead of 97 pounds, I still don't think it makes it okay. Blech. Too skinny. There I said it.

And, hello?? It appears you have not gone directly to gofugyourself.com. What gives? This site is MADE for you.

No, I'm defending the Pompeo skinny because I think she looks great, and also because I read the articles that said how she has to do extra stuff to make sure she stays up to weight, that the old Italian women in her neighborhood growing up called her some name that means skinny, and that it isn't her fault. Plus, I think she looks fine for these Emmys. I had a friend growing up who had to take special pills to gain weight.
To me, she looks pretty natural with her skinny, in contrast to many of the others. I also think Sandra Oh looks natural with her skinny.
And I think the last years Emmys are the ones where I liked Pompeo's and Oh's dresses, both white? Divine.
Hey, I'm as much in favor of realistic body types as the next person, but there are a few people that are skinny that it is obvious that that is their body type.
I'm not about to reverse discriminate, and Pompeo and Oh are both naturally very slender. And I thought that Pompeo looked a bit gaunt (though good) last time, but I chalked it up to the stress of a new series, and, you know, I had read how she had trouble gaining weight. But, here, I think she is a bit more filled out, and just looks beautiful. Aside from the hair. She is slim, and chose a dress that (I think) flattered her figure.
I'm loathe to both condemn girls who are overweight, and also am loathe to condemn anyone who is naturally thin, just because I will never be that. I can't be mad at those girls for how they are. I'm actually glad that some girls are naturally thin and don't starve themselves. Just like I'm equally glad about Heigl, and her awesome curves. You know, whoever the chick is, she should be that chick.
Omigod, that just reminded me of my other runner up - Miss Italian Lorraine Bracco, who has gained a bit of weight in middle age, like a good Italian girl should, and doesn't give a **** (like a good Italian girl wouldn't) and has always been hella sexy and funny. She's the winner of the..."Yeah? you like my big boobs? You know you want summa this crazy!" award. I love her.
If you've ever seen her in an interview, she is crazy, she'll say any damn thing she wants. Love it. Extremely refreshing, and leave it to an Italian woman. Okay, I'm just making up ethnocentric **** right there, but I still like her.
Go on witcha bad self, Lorraine! :blob2: (seriously, she's crazy, she'll say any damn thing!) But if you remember back, she has also been very gorgeous.

She is beautiful but that dress is awful for her figure. It broadens her shoulders and narrows her hips which is the exact opposite of what would be flattering.

See, here's the thing, I was a skinny-mini myself all through junior high and high school, couldn't gain weight to save my life and I was an absolute rail, LESS than a rail, so I understand the plight of the naturally skinny woman.

However...

Once you reach a certain age, your body and its metabolism changes and even though I would still widely be considered slim, I am by no means the weight I was when I was 17 and never will be again. When vertebrae is visible on a 30 year old woman, there is something else going on. And isn't it Nicole Richie who's all "I eat what I want, whenevah" and, well, look at her.

Don't worry, I won't go monting a soapbox about skinniness in Hollywood, I understand why it exists. I just can't say that I buy it when women are emaciated and claim to not have a problem.

...and although Pompeo's dress was passable, the greasy helmet she called her hair was enough to drive the whole look into the ground.

That depends though, there is a gene that some people have that keeps them from gaining weight. My roommate is 33 and you can see her vertebrae but she also EATS. Seriously, I would like to smash those big bowls of ice cream into her face. She does mostly watch it but she eats way more than people would think. Although she is at a healthy weight I think at 5'9" 130lbs. Nothing like Ms Ritchie.

Remember when Calista Flockhart showed up at the Emy's a few years back and was literally a bone rack? And she was all indignant, like "how dare you critisize my weight, I feel beautiful", and there were literally no words to describe how grotesquely skinny she was. That's my point, its the ones that are beyond recognition as a healthy human being and chastise the media for their judgement, when all the while, they feed (bad use of word) the Hollywood stereotype.

It's not the skinny person's fault that you aren't skinny. And some girls are actually very resentful and judgmental of someone who is thin, or in shape, etc. It's like some weird reverse discrimination. And some people actually are naturally thin.
I'm also sick of people blaming the media for their low self esteem about their weight, but, that's a complex issue. I'm not saying it isn't valid, I'm saying I'm sick of it. Quit watching the damn TV, and go out and exercise! That way you kill two birds with one stone! Quitcher whining! :woohoo:

My aunt was doing this at my party, she was really coming down on thin people. A few days before, someone said she looked younger than her husband's neice, who is actually younger. His neice is thin and into designer everything. But my aunt isn't. She went on and on about how rediculous it is to be that way (thin and designer). Meanwhile my roommate is sitting across the way just looking at her like, "Do you even know what you are saying?" It was bad. I hate that too.

You can be mad that someone else can eat a lot and be thin while you can't but you can't be mad at them. It doesn't make sense. Although I sometimes am mad at my roommate. Seriously, you should see the size of those bowls of ice cream!

I think that the media influence on self-esteem is very real. But you're right, people are ultimately responsible for their own self-image. Kids aren't though, they are heavily influenced by the images they see. Therefore these images have actually shaped who we are in some ways. We are a product of all of our experiences, including what we have seen and heard in the media. You can't help but internalize those images in ways you aren't even fully aware of. Media people should be more responsible but I don't think there should be regulations or anything. Oh hell no. Just have a conscience people, I mean "heroine chic"? That was just ass.

I guess. But really, it's kind of a blessing in disguise. Ice Cream still isn't healthy, even though she doesn't gain weight from it. So, even though you may be "forced" to eat more healthfully to keep your weight down, at least you are eating healthfully. My dad is the same way, with ice cream, too - he is skinny. Still can have high cholesterol, or blood sugar issues, or whatnot.

Yeah, that's why people should turn the damn TV off, and not let their kids watch it until they are older. It won't filter out all images, obviously, but it will filter out a hugenormous amount of them.
Also, the media to a large degree shows us what we want to see. Yes, heroine chic was ass. But talking about conscience, how people can, in good conscience, allow their young children to watch TV in great volumes - like most do - is beyond my comprehension.

O, preach it!

When I was in my teens, I was repeatedly accused of being anorexic because of my weight, or lack thereof. I would seriously gorge myself and not gain a thing, not until college. Even up until then though, older girls, or my mother's friends would say I was lucky to have such a problem, but I really didn't see it that way. Anyway, as I got older, I have put on a healthy amount of what, because, well, that's just how the human body works.

Anyway, my point is, the vast majority of women in Hollywood, who are sticks, never admit to crash dieting, or an unhealthy lifestyle...when, although it may be possible for a few, women in their 30's just do not weigh 100 ponds without effort. They just don't. And visible bones aren't attractive. On anyone. Blablabla.

And for the record, I don't have a hate-on for the skinnies...I'm at a slim but healthy weight myself. But I don't like the bone-racks that claim ignorance on how they got that way.

Hmm, hard to say. I just hate all the fibbing. No, tard, it was a big long story about her and her life in some normal magazine. She told the story about how all the other old Italian ladies (besides her grandma) in her neighborhood called her some word in italian that means really skinny, or tiny noodle, or something when she was little/growing up. It was all involved and stuff. Then the article went into this whole thing about how she has to watch what she eats to make sure she gets enough calories, etc., and it's tough because they work such long hours for the show, etc. If you don't want to believe it, fine, but it was a pretty fricking involved story to be a lie. When I was 16 I was 110 lbs and a lot of people told me how skinny I was. I wasn't particularly thrilled with my body at that time though. Plus people always said that with snark, you're so skinny. I had been naturally thin before that but the reason I was so thin (I'd lost 10 lbs) was I was depressed and could not eat, except dinner, for almost a year. That was a very sad time. So to get back-handed praise for being thin just felt awful. I can identify with that feeling.

But it seems even worse when it's the other way. Like when my grandfather told me how much weight I'd gained. Or my grandmother asked me if I drink beer cuz that has a lot of calories. Etc, etc. If you've been overweight you know how difficult it is. I think it's harder for them than for the skinnies. So if they don't have much sympathy for them I can see why.

Calista Flockhart used to claim she was naturally thin too but she finally admitted to an eating disorder. They always deny them. I'm not saying EP has one because I have known naturally skinny people who eat healthy. But you just never know.

I think you just argued with yourself, to wit:

How can we be ultimately responsible for our self image when that very self image is forumulated while we are kids (and watching TV or listening to radio or what have you)?? You're apparently saying that at some magical/mythical point, our self image should improve merely by virtue of aging? I cant think of anyone who was able to do that to any degree

And speaking for myself, I was ALWAYS skinny, a size 3 or 5 (and even THEN didnt have a good self image) until my mid to late 30's and then I got heavy relatively quickly. Talk about a real head trip!! Im trying to make peace with who I am at this moment and not stress about trying to recapture my glory days. Truth be told, when I WAS skinny, I had no end of men troubles because they wouldnt leave me alone and I couldnt differentiate between a decent man and a not so decent man, and because of my low self esteem anyway (thanks to my dad and my grandparents) I needed a man's attention for validation. Any man, even a bad one. Now that I am heavier and mostly left alone (except for the boy toys!!), Im HAPPY for the first freaking time in my life! So, these issues are pretty complex and I think the dynamics are more important than a cursory statement about "get out and exercise" or "change your diet". Im a firm believer in baby steps. Do what you can manage and take it in increments.

I didn't contradict myself because once we are mature we can change our beliefs and improve our self-image. We can choose what we see and what we buy into. However, it would be a lot easier if we were exposed to millions of healthy images instead of sick ones, wouldn't it?

I'm also happier single than I've ever been with a man, except for the first couple of months with my first BF and the first couple with Sean. Until they really revealed themselves. My self-image is also better now that I'm heavier but that is a result of maturity.

Since I DONT WATCH TV (except PBS) I trust your judgement

gee, looks like Im the only one here who actually turns the TV off

I'd say that's a safe bet. Pomeo's character is really really pathetic. Almost as bad as Allison on Melrose Place!

Well, speaking for myself, I dont think I actually began approaching maturity until maybe 10 years ago or so, so thats an awful long time to have a poor self image and an awful lot to overcome. In fact, I can only say that Ive BEGUN to start to appreciate myself as I am (not as I was told I should be) in the last few years or so.....Plus, a person has to recognize that they WANT to change their self image and thats a toughie too....

I dont know, I think its hard to understand what constitutes maturity when you arent "mature" yet, and conversely, its kind of mind-boggling to realize just how naive we were once we DO mature.....

I hear you. In our society I don't think you are really mature until after 30. It takes a long time! Maybe it's because we have to undo so much? Maybe we're not taught the right stuff in school? Perhaps a lot of it is just human nature mixed with the high pace that is thrown at us without a user manual.

I agree with you, but I like her only because I have been in that situation. Well, not per se, but in a situation where you just canNOT get out of that hole. I'm finally digging myself out now, but I'm pretty sure I've been perceived as "pathetic" or whatever. Which is totally not in character for me, but sometimes it just happens. I hope Meredith works it out-even though I want her to be with MCDREAMY!!!

anyone know if Katherine Heigel(sp?) is coming back?? Sucks that Denny died.

Yeah, you're right, especially when you're younger and she is an intern so she's playing mid 20s I guess. Maybe it's because I identify with it that it drives me so crazy. Just move on girl, MOVE ON!

Why wouldn't she come back?

I missed the finale of last season. :( But it was because I was in Africa! :)

I thought she walked away in such a way it made you think she was leaving. So we really aren't gonna know if she comes back or not.
