Maybe I'm just in a bad mood, but I feel like discussing all the little annoyances that get on everyone's nerves.

Some of Mine:

when you apologize to someone and they say "uh huh" instead of "no problem" or "that's o.k." my boss does this.

When a waitress takes your money and says "do you need change?" Instead, just say "I'll be back with your change". If you get to keep it, they will tell you "keep the change"

when people push their eyebrows back the opposite way they grow. UGH. o.k-that's more OCD, but still.

People who drive too slow.

What are some of yours??

OK- Some of mine:
-People who use bad grammer...not because they do not know better-just lazy...
-People that drive in the left lane of the highway going 55...It IS the passing lane...Moron!
-Blaming someone else because you have had to much to drink/eat/spend/whatever...It is all your responsibility!
Wearing clothes that are too tight...

Just my 2cents!

I'm with you 100% on the waitress.

I'm with you 9,999,999,999,999,999% on the slow drivers(shut up math majors!). I most definitely have PATIENCE issues!!!

drivers who leave the turn signals on long after the turn. that blinking light kills me. really. i've held my hand up and closed one eye to make it go away.

people who drive right through parking lots instead of up and down the lanes. one day, i'm going to lose it and just not slow down and let one of those jerk-offs plow into my car and sue the **** right out of them.

people who misuse apostrophes. apostrophes show possession or contraction, they do not pluralize! also their, there, and they're. all different words!

actually, i think it's just most things that most people do that drive me crazy. :wavey:

I could NOT agree with you more. :wavey: Also hate when people blow through pavement stop lines marked in parking lots too. Just cuz there's not sign doesn't mean it's optional, jackass.

People that don't reply when you greet them.

People who continue to talk on cell phones when they're coming down the hall into my office, and then keep talking on their cell phones after they sit down. Now I just sit and stare at them until they finally get the message & hang up.

What y'all said. I especially hate the big hand when you say hello to someone. Rude rude rude. I'm sure I can come up with more.

Even tho I've told her a gagillion times she speaks too softly my roommate will still mumble. I no longer say "what" I just say nothing. Because she'll get annoyed if I ask "what", plus I'll have to do it at least twice. Cuz she thinks I don't understand, not that I can't hear. Well, right now she just annoys so I should get off this before I get myself going.

Whenever Dubya speaks I get annoyed.

O'Lielley and the rest of the right-wing talking point parrots annoy me.

Office politics.

The speed of our internet connection at work. Hello, it's 2006 people!

Our FTP server, see above.

When people talk at you not making sure you're engaged (aka give a crap).

-mouth breathers

-people who can't speak proper English when it is their first language

-people who stop at the top (or bottom) at an escalator. Get out of the f'in way!!

-people who finish their sentences with "y'know what I mean?" No, I don't know what you mean, I'm retarded.

-people who don't say good bye when they hang up the phone...they just...hang up.

-guys who whip out the "finger-guns"

-fake boobies

park in handicap parking spots, who are not handicapped (Especially the elderly & overweight), But who are just too damned lazy to walk another 30-40 feet.

Doctors who are incompetent (Seems that my family members often are assigned these bozo's) and give you false info because they're totally inept and clueless from never researching the possible cause of an illness.

People who assume that if I dont listen to rap/hip-hop that I am a racist (Absolute BS!!!), and yes, this puzzling pile of caca has happened to me before.

People who seem to think that the speed limit on 2 lane state highways of 65 MPH is too slow.

People who drive while yapping away on the cellphone, all the while never paying attention to the other drivers on the road.

Yes! And did you ever notice that people always stop in the middle of the doorway? Move, you idiot!
And that ALOT of women stand with their hands on their hips, thus protruding their elbows out, as far as possible(I work in a crowded bar, and getting past all these elbows drives me nuts!)?

Women who are slaves to fashion. Everyone wants to look good, but for God's sake if you physically can't walk in a pair of shoes, please don't buy them.

People who try to jam themselves onto an elevator as soon as the door opens. Dude, you'll have more room to get on in a sec if you'd get the hell out of my way & let me off first.

People who cut in line, mainly a bathroom line. We have to pee too, bitch, so get to the back of the line & wait like everyone else. Of course, if you're about to puke, fell free to run past us.

It's worse when it's a perfectly healthy 20-something college student.

This blondie just moved into my apartment building - and has parked in a handicapped spot EVERY DAY!!! There are only three and there are three ACTUAL handicapped people who need them - I complained - but apparently my apartment building has rules, they just aren't enforced (HUGE pet peeve) - so I left a nasty note on her car yesterday - it's just been bugging me - :p

I hate when you say "excuse me" and people STILL don't move. I'll say it nicely two to maybe three times - then if they still don't move I say it more forcefully which usually gets a rude response from said not-moving person....

I hate this too!! But be careful. I have a friend that only has one leg and a prosthetic on the other. One day he was wearing long pants and parked in a handicapped parking spot @ the mall. You really can't tell he's handicapped because he walks really good, but when he got out, a guy in a car started yelling and cussing to him. He took off his fake leg and started swinging it around his head. The guy felt really bad. I told my other friend this story and we got the biggest kick out of it, because it would be just sweet revenge. TWO DAYS LATER!!! she was at a restaurant and a guy parked in a handicapped parking spot. My friend (drunk) thought he was being an A$$hole and started giving him dirty looks and talking about him to her friends. About that time, the guy leaned over, slowly pulled up his pant leg and revealed his prosthetic. SHE. DIED. But at least he was pretty cool about it. He was laughing with her-I'm sure he gets it all the time

I hate it when cheap things ruin expensive things. The other day my son picked up a $7 lotion bottle, and it slipped into the sink, breaking the basin which will cost something like $150 to fix. Another example? How about a $2 pen leaking on a $100 sweater? Basically, I have issues with entropy. Curse you entropy!

I get a little peeved that many people have forgotten that "excuse me" is a polite way to ask to pass in a narrow aisle. Instead, people have a tendency to push a cart right up in front of you and then just stare, or hover behind you and wait until you sense their presence.

OH MY GOD I HATE THAT!!!

I'm horrid in public - if someone does that I will NOT move - not until I hear an excuse me. There are some who push through eventually and I can't help but utter, "An excuse me would have worked quite well..." or something.

See, I don't see what the big deal is about walking is. I'll see that vehicle circling, and I'll park out at the first space I see. Walk all the way into the store, and still see that same vehicle, still looking for the space they want. Wasting gas, and the opportunity for a little exercise!

The other day in a checkout line, I had just finished paying my money, and was putting my groceries into the back of my son's stroller, and I felt daggers behind me. It was very loud, and of course I expected a tiny amount of lag time because I figured anyone behind me would be buying something, but I guess it was also a pass-through aisle for the other cashier or something. So I sensed the daggers, and turned to see a woman glaring. I thought I must have missed her "excuse me" in all the noise.
"Oh, I'm sorry," I said "I didn't hear you behind me!"
"Well! I just didn't know what to say" she said.

Can you believe that? I did something very passive-agressive, but I couldn't help myself: as she passed I told my son, very loudly, "See, Leo, when you need to pass someone, you just say, 'excuse me' and then they know you need to pass. It's the polite thing to do!"

I am sure she went home and told her family how rude I was
Maybe she will post here that her pet peeve is mom's who talk to their children in order to avoid confrontation. ;)

I work fast. Really fast. For a basic immunization appointment, I can bring someone in, chat a bit, review their records, fill out paperwork, give the vaccine & bill it in the computer in less than 10 minutes.

Yet some patients still come in & tap their foot or drum their fingers impatiently, tell me that they have to get to class & ask me how long it will take. Well, kiddo, it was going to be about 6 minutes but just for spite, now it's gonna be 20. :D

People that show up late for appointments. We give them a 10 minute leeway, which I think is more than fair. But I've seen people sauter in 20 or more minutes late & can't understand why we can't just squeeze them in.

My pet peeves are bad/ignorant parents. If your kid just happens to be spawned from the bowels of hell and insists on running your life at the age of three, then step up, be an adult, and do something about it. I saw a mom at the grocery store shrug off a fellow shopper's complaint when her kid was screaming his head off because he didn't get a candy bar. She shrugged it off like she didn't know what to do.

It comes down to this:
1. Don't pacify your children with candy/tv.
2. The last I heard, spanking wasn't illegal. Not that I advocate beating the **** out of your kids, but discipline needs to be a bit stronger then "time out" or "no nintendo."
3. The counting thing? Sorry guys, it doesn't work. I never even got to "one" before Mom spanked me. Yet still, I always hear:

"Aidan, come here. Aidan, no. Aidan? AIDAN?! Okay...one. Two. THREE. That's it mister, you have time out."

Besides that, I really think that if people need to apply to be married, then they should have to apply to breed. I volunteer to approve/deny all breeding requests. Imagine how history would have changed had this been put in place years ago...

"I'm sorry Mrs. Hilton, but your request is permanently denied on the grounds of irreversible damage to society should you bring an heiress into this world."

^ Preach it, my brother. My next door neighbor is one of "those people." Her kids run around all hours of the day & night, ride bikes without helmets, go in the street all the time, talk back to her & the dad, etc etc etc. OH! And they're 8 & 11 - it's been this way since we moved in 5 years ago. No bedtimes, no discipline.

Any time I've mentioned anything to her (don't get me wrong, I don't go too far, I don't want to get a "what the hell do you know, you don't even have kids" speech) she shrugs & says "they just don't listen..." No ****. When I was 8, if I was seen near the street, I would have been in so much trouble. "They don't listen..." Whatever. When some guy speeding down the road hits your kid... I don't even want to think about it. :(

And I agree - you need a license to catch a fish, but any asshole can have a child. :distress:

And just to add on to that - YOUR kids are not MY f*cking problem. It's YOUR job to make sure they're safe, not mine. How may times have I seen a kid about to fall, or get run over, or get hurt somehow, and the parent is right there saying & doing NOTHING. This has happened at parties I've been to - if I happen to be talking to 1 kid, that does not mean that I'm going to stay inthis area & watch your kid, so don't f*cking take off to get a drink or pee & leave them thre, assuming that since I"m an adult I'll keep an eye on them.

In-freakin'-deed. I am so sick of screaming/badly behaved kids and the parents who do nothing.

There does need to be some sort of parental application process - because this letting anyone have kids thing isn't working out.

I was driving to work the other day - and I saw a woman on a scooter - driving VERY recklessly - no helmet..I thought, "oh well...she's gonna kill herself - it's her problem..." THEN I saw that she had a very small child with her -on her lap...on the scooter - that really disturbed me.

There are tons of unruly kids at my apartment complex - and the parents don't do ****. But then, they're also really rude and disrespectful of others - so their kids aren't learning how to not be assholes.

I have too many unruly kid stories - because it's apparently acceptable nowadays for kids to be in charge...it's disgusting...

Well, I agree with you about parents ignoring their wild-running children in stores, and I was neve alowed to run around in stores or restaurants, or even to speak around adults, unless spoken to. But, supposedly I just had a compliant temperment.
I have a little something to say about that candy, though. First off, I don't give my son candy bars, and we don't eat them either, but he has tried to grab a pack of candy form the bottom display, and then cried when I told him "no." I needed to pay for my purchases, so we all had to suffer another 30 seconds of horrible whining and crying. If a child wants a candy bar, and gets so upset that they scream, then a spanking isn't going to stop it, unless you knock them unconscious. A child's brain chemistry doesn't accomodate impulse control, or delayed gratification, that supposedly happens with mature brains. If the parent can, they should take the kid outside, but you know, sometimes parents have to eat too, and they might have to keep shopping. Now, if you want to complain, please walk right up to the MGR, and tell them to STOP PUTTING CANDY DISPLAYS AT TODDLER HEIGHT! They are on the bottom shelves for one reason only, and that is to tempt little children, and it just plain SUCKS!

Call marketing candy to children a pet peeve of mine.

Once, in once of my restaurants, I had a table where the mother was letting her child climb on the outside of a spiral staircase. Our floor was tile. I came running over, concerned for his safety and told her that he was absolutely not allowed to be climbing on the staircase. She shrugged, and said, "what should I say to him?" I might have replied that "no" would be a good start, or I just thought it, I can't remember, but I had to quit that job soon after, so I might have told her off. Unbelievable!

yeah - it's usually the parent who infuriate me - because I realize the kid just doesn't know any better - of course that kid will then grow into an adult who infuriates me

My mom got married a couple of years ago - and in the process I got a niece. Well I got her a few fun back to school things, my mom bought her more - I asked her how she liked them and my mom annoyed said, "ugh - she didn't even say thank you..." BUT I wasn't mad at the kid - more her loser parents who never taught her to have manners - or to say thank you - it's quite sad really.

other people's kids misbehaving in public is so damned frustrating. maybe it's more frustrating because i teach and deal with kids all day?

i was at Michael's yesterday (funny you mentioned that, D) and two twelvish girls were testing the spray paints by spraying the edges of the shelves. the entire aisle was stinky and they were causing damage to the store! two other customers walked past and shot them dirty looks. i can't settle for that. i turned on my Ms. D voice immediately.

"exCUSE me, ladies, i'm fairly certain that what you are doing isn't allowed..." (puzzled/embarrassed looks)

"i suggest you stop what you are doing and find something to clean that mess up with before you leave this store..." (embarrassed/guilty looks)

"and i think you should think things through more thoroughly before intentionally vandalizing property."

they stopped and wiped some of it off. then they probably keyed some cars and smoked up in the parking lot. but those shelves are safe! :wavey:

Good for you for saying something!!

We caught so many kids trying to steal spraypaint/painting our shelves/stealing the paint pens...annoying.

The other day I was at Target and two 13 or 14 year old boys were looking at DVDs...or rather knocking them off shelves and kicking them...I still regret not saying anything - instead I shot them a look of death and went on my merry way.

>People who don't promptly respond to e-mails. This is actually one that's really pissing me off at the moment. I can understand being a little busy, but if I send an e-mail and two weeks go by without me getting a response...I think that's just unacceptable, unless you're out of town. And even then they have those auto-reply things you can utilize to let people know you're gone. There's a person I e-mailed a couple of weeks ago and he hasn't replied. I sent him a second e-mail, forwarding the first, this weekend. Still no response. I almost want to just start inundating him with them now.

Back in the day, I was told once that I couldn't have it, and if I kept up I was brought out to the car where my ass was thoroughly whooped. I'm not saying that is the best way all of the time (although sometimes it is deserved with the mouths on these kids today) but I think that once kids know they can get the upper hand, it's over. My sister is a good example. She would push and push until finally my Dad would give in just to shut her up. Now she's nothing short of high maintenence, and will still do the big song and dance until she gets her way...at age 26.

So I agree with you to a point. Sure, the candy shouldn't be so accessible, but since young kids aren't spending the money, it ultimately falls onto the parents to put their foot down and not back down from the dreaded "no."

I want to make sure you know that you have a right to your pet peeve—not trying to devalue the peeve.
Yes, not backing down is key, and I certainly wasn't suggesting that accessibility to candy means a parent has to give in (I never have yet, but I have had to leave many a drugstore or grocery in mid purchase) I just meant that stores know the kids will see and grab that candy, and they are hoping a parent will be embarrassed, and just buy it. Maybe we should be sure we are talking about the same age of child, because any parent "whooping" a 2 or 3 year old for crying over not getting candy would likely have their child taken away by CPS. Kids just periodically fall apart, whether because they are tired or hungry or hurting, and smart responsible parents will try to avoid shopping at high risk times, but sometimes that can't be avoided.
I really dislike elderly, and even find myself getting annoyed at handicapped people (gasp) but as I have gotten older, and have started to see how feeling physically crummy can make your personality crummy, I am trying to be a little more compassionate. Unless you are parking your SUV in a compact spot, and then I might have to pee on your car:D

No, I don't feel devalued or anything of the sort. Just making good conversation ;). The age of the children I was referring to was at least five. Usually the kindergarten age is when the cuteness fades and you can tell that the kid is just plain bad.

A couple more grievances...

-when a person says something ****ty to you and then quickly follows it up with "just kidding", like it's all okay. I knew a girl who did this all the time. Like, "hey, are you ever having a bad hair day. Just kidding!!" I had to bit my tongue to a nub to not shoot back with "you're fat and ugly and stupid.....just kidding!!"....just to make my goddam point.

-new money. Actually, new money people. Old money is always more respectful and less snooty.

-people with the sniffles who just don't understand that a kleenez really is the answer. Quit sniffing, its gross.

-lol. I don't know why. I'm alright with omg and brb and imho and ttyl and wtf, but for whatever reason, I can't stand lol. Just bugs the piss outta me.

AFTER THE CUTENESS FADES
Well I never thought I'd make it to the checkout line
I never thought I'd make it there today
Everything the children touched they had to have
what they seemed to want, well you know they'd find a way
For me its the ugliest sound that I've ever known
the howling is just one small aisle away
get me through this shopping and get me through the line
The parent's to blame even after the cuteness fades.

 That's silly—I like it.
In the City, I used to put little notecards I had made that said "Spot Hog" on them. This was mostly for those parallel parkers on my st. who would take up 3 spaces. I just saw this logo for some archery sight manufacturer, and I think the graphic would be perfect for this purpose.

You sound like you're way more educated on the subject then I am. I was just explaining the age of a child to where certain behavior would not be tolerable. A screaming two year old is inevitable, but a five or six year old throwing a demonic fit is an issue. That's all I was saying.;)

I see what you're saying. A screaming 5 year old doesn't fit the normal development you would expect which is likely due to indulgent parenting so you've made my point. Hehe. But yeah, I did take developmental psych and kids are just not fully accountable for their actions because they are still learning and growing.

>People who don't signal when they change lanes.

I ALWAYS use my turning signal. Even when I'm pulling out of my driveway (which is on a dead end street. :o ) But I make it such a habit that I always do it. Sometimes even when I'm taking sharp curves:laugh:

I know we all, from time-to-time, had to contend with someone who is very clueless as to new music/movie releases...But c'mon folks, could ya better train these kids to assist instead of annoy us paying customers?

no ****-I actually went to best buy and the guy there knew more about Fleetwood mac than "I" did. (which I realize is not a big deal on here, but the general public doesn't usually know more than I do) So I have some respect for BB.

I agree with this. I think this is the reason I don't want children. I have a friend and her 3 year old is SO well behaved. I love visiting them. But other children-nocando.
I was driving to work the other day - and I saw a woman on a scooter - driving VERY recklessly - no helmet..I thought, "oh well...she's gonna kill herself - it's her problem..." THEN I saw that she had a very small child with her -on her lap...on the scooter - that really disturbed me.

I'm about 5 miles from town. I "HAD" two routes to town. One was already inundated with traffic lights. So, I still had a good route, til a couple months ago. Walmart is now abandoning their regular Walmart(with convenient 4 lane highway access), for a SuperWalmart, which is OUT OF THE WAY of easy access! It opens in a few weeks. In hindsight I wish I thought to say "___ inches too small". My ego was already bruised having hung out with my roommate all night where it was the KT show and I was her invisible sidekick. Oh. My. God. I would have been mortified - why men think it's perfectly fine to be complete assholes like that is beyond me. Too bad you didn't think of that retort sooner - and hopefully you'll never have to use it in a similar situation again. Sucks...I'm usually the invisible sidekick at clubs too...

So add being the invisible sidekick to my list of pet peeves.

   That made me laugh - last night for once it actually wasn't totally the Rain show with me as her invisible, non red headed sidekick. Okay, not "for once", but it does happen a lot. It actually works out, though, because she is way too friendly with people I would never want to talk to. So, since they are usually boring, I don't have to talk to them and she does! Sweet. Hey, she made her bed by being so friendly....
Last night and today we were, instead, the "two beautiful ladies" or "two fine women", etc. :p

Um, also, about the yelling out of the car? WTF?! Okay, first of all, no one who looked at you would think you were overweight unless they were a freak. Second, that is the number 2 reason why the guy was obviously a freak, the first reason being that he's yelling out of his car to people about their weight, for fun. I have never, ever heard of anything like that. People who state their opinions as if they are fact and can't tell the difference between "best" and "favourite" i.e. "X is the greatest singer ever in any genre. period." then when confronted says something like "you clearly don't appreciate their genius and their unique talent".
The most annoying thing is that this happens on some message boards (not this one yet, thankfully) I'm on, but if I didn't appreciate the singers talent I wouldn't be there!

I hardly ever argue with anyone, but if someone makes a statement like that I will argue them into the ground.

Anyway, as much as I HATE to agree with you, this is one of my BIG pet peeves, too. My cousin comes over to my house, and stays a couple days each week. He kept talking for a few minutes, then he said, "turn the movie back on. I wanna watch it."
Me> "WATCH IT???? You have talked NON-STOP since I put it in, 30 minutes ago!!!!!!!!" He denied it, and I then listed topic after topic that he'd babbled about. "You've not heard one word from the movie, and neither have I! Do you realize that you NEVER stop talking?"

You are so right. I don't even like those people at all. It's funny because Kristin and I talked about it (I just said I felt the guys were not friendly) and she said they are all very cliquey and probably not the kind of people I would actually want to talk to anyway. They are very shallow people who party party party and that is it. There is nothing wrong with partying but there has to be some depth there too!

As far as the weight thing, that guy probably attends Howard Stern's school of what a woman should weigh. He would probably tell me I should weigh no more than 110 lbs. That would be impossible!

Pet Peeve:

People who just assume that I or my parents or even my grandparents are immigrants because we are Hispanic. Not all hispanics are immigrants. Remember when the US stole Texas from Mexico? Many Mexicans were already there....

And New Mexico. Border cross US people. Not the other way around - New Mexico became a state in 1912. My family was already there.

So anyway - I don't know why the implication that I or my family are recent immigrants - but what seems to be ignored by and large is the fact that there are Hispanics in the U-S who have been here for many many generations. I'm not an immigrant

I'm sure this is somewhere already, but I must vent...

People who don't know how to use self-scanners, but still attempt it. If you don't know that you have to scan one thing at a time, and that you must leave all of your bags on the counter until you pay, and that you can't put your purse or your bag or your baby on the counter, then STAY THE F*CK AWAY FROM THE THING! Seriously! it's not going to save you any time, and it's going to piss everyone off. And while I'm at it, please don't self scan iof you have 100 items. Jerk.

That being said, when people who know how to use a self-scanner (me, for example) do so and it malfunctions. This happened to me last week. I'm on lunch from work, I need about 15 items for my party. Basic stuff - paper plates, napkins, nothing too spectacular. I scan it all in, I slide my card. It gets stuck while processing my payment. Girl tells me "they've been slow, since we're using a generator right now." :( Yeah. Well. The other 5 are working just fine. She reboots the machine, insisting that I won't have to rescan everything. Yeah. Well. That didn't work, I did have to rescan. Not fun. I'll be watching my bank statement like a hawk next month for a double charge.

People who don't know the true functionality of hazard lights.

While departing work this evening, I entered a freeway and came upon a vehicle braking in front of me. I utilized my brakes and remained approx 10+ feet behind. The driver increases to brake as do I. He then proceeds to hit a 2' x 2' x 2" pieces of hard steel (apparently.) I see this bitch slam atop the roof of his car, hurl 15' in the air, come back down onto the freeway in front of my vehicle, jump up onto my hood doing two 4' 360s and, thankfully, fall to the wayside.

1. When coming upon an unavoidable item on the freeway...hit the hazard.
2. When braking upon an unavoidable item on the freeway...stop the vehicle...don't tease the brakes!
3. When teasing upon an unavoidable item on the freeway...and no one is next to you...get over dipchit so the person behind you has the opp to avoid the f'ing thing!

I can not (well...I could) tell you how many times I have almost kicked-bucket in this way.
I guess you ledgies will have to put up with me for some time...sorry about that ;) (maybe)

My vehicle sustained some scratch/bend damage to the front license and a small piece of grill. I am forever thankful the item didn't hit my front glass, and that I was able to avoid damage to myself or another vehicle/human. I am worried about other vehicles this evening...or whenever. :distress:

When brand new stuff is in the trash here in the office. I found a couple of giveaway items with the company's logo in someone's trash. But we have an area where people swap those items so they could have easily just given them away.

At any rate, I am the proud new owner of a laptop case and it's pretty neat! Okay, so it doesn't really make me mad cuz I just got something free!

UGH> and unappreciative bosses:distress: :distress:

at our office we are creating a newsletter to send to all of our patients. In the newsletter we are going to have our bios in there, etc. Well, last night, the front desk lady and I got the bright idea to play a joke on our doctor. We made the "real" bios sheet (for him to proof read) and then the "joke" one. We had the regular bios, but thrown in there nonchalantly were different extracurricular activities.
One girls was :in her spare time, natalie poses for nude art
another one: Kelly teaches pole dancing at the local YMCA
Mine: panty model @ Victoria's Secret (I DID work at VS, but NOT as a panty model!! ) Her established webside is www.pantiesgonewild.com
another one: christie gives private lapdances and strips for local bachelor parties.

I swear-they night before I couldn't hardly hold it in. I was telling everyone I couldn't wait until the staff meeting the next morning to give it to him (which was today) THE F*CKING A$$HOLE got pissed. Because he thought we took time from his "precious" time clock to do all that. It makes me so made because he is such a stick in the mud. THe man is going to have a heart attack or stroke-we are just trying to prolong it to allow him to have a little fun. I guess it makes me mad mostly because we did it for HIM!! It wasn't for us...and he was a dork about it. Ugh...okay. I'm done. sorry :(

my current pet peeves ...

people thinking that what they want is their fukcing birthright. it's not.

last night, my two friends (the ones who threw a tantrum when i couldn't go to their house for tgiving) called me at midnight. i didn't answer b/c i was in bed, but i did listen to the voicemail they left. they were "rolling into town" and wanted to "hit up the bars" before they closed. i didn't call back but they did - 4 more times, until 1 a.m. wtf. i called back this evening as my shift was ending at work to see if they wanted to do something tonight, but they said f*ck you, we're on our way to annapolis now. WTF??? for one thing, it takes 4 hours to get from south bend, indiana, to kent. they could have called me at 8 when they were leaving if they wanted to make plans. secondly, who gets pissed off at someone for not getting together when they were only in town for less than 24 hours? jesus.

then tonight at work ... this girl came in and asked if we cater. i said no, we do party trays, but we don't cater. then she said she wants to place an order for cuban black bean soup. i explained we only have that on the menu once in a while, we can't accommodate her. she looked at me as if i had told her i had run over her grandmother. she paused for an uncomfortable 15 seconds and then said "why?" i said, we just don't do that. i'm sorry. then she got all pissy and stormed off on her friggin' huffy bike. wtf people? if i went in somewhere and asked for something they didn't serve, i would say oh, sorry, nevermind. apparently i was not aware that she had some letter signed by god that said she was supposed to receive cuban black bean soup whenever she demanded it ...

Aww sorry carrie. The bitch with the bean soup? screw her. You don't even need to concern yourself with that crap. Your friends? Uh. Wtf? Yes. They should have called way sooner. Cuz then you could have poss taken a nap to be able to go out for awhile. :sorry:

thanks. my issue with the bean soup lady sounds really petty, but it's just one example of how demanding and immature people are acting around the holidays. so many people think they're the only people dealing with holiday stress, they demand, demand, demand.

and those friends are always demanding like that. i am supposed to drop everything whenever they are in town because they come through so rarely, it's like a "treat" for me! gag. i love 'em, but there's a reason i don't go out of my way to spend time with them. if they wanted to plan something ahead of time, i would be more than willing, tho.

i'm hoping they'll get the hint. i used to get out of bed to hang out with them when they'd call until about a year and a half ago, and i stopped. i just don't get enough out of that relationship to be their on-call entertainment when they're in town. plus i like sleeping.

Wasn't there a thread in which self-flushing toilets were discussed? I might be thinking of MySpace actually.....

Either way you're not in the minority -many people hate those damn self-flushing toilets....myself included.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when in a public bathroom someone tries to open the door of the stall you're in and finding it locked...they try to open it again. And then again. Until I finally say, "someone's in here!"

Seriously. Could they not figure that one out on their own? That really pisses me off....or hey...if you're not sure..KNOCK!

Basically I hate public restrooms.

^^^ Or what about going into a public bathroom in a restaurant or club, and you have to go really badly. But there is an attendant standing there with a tip jar stuffed full of 10's and 20's.  For one thing, that is all for show- to guilt people into leaving large tips. Secondly, why should I pay someone to hand me a paper towel when a) I don't want someone to hand it to me and b) it is more sanitary/hygienic to get it myself? Why should I have to pay to use the bathroom when I am already spending money at this establishment?

Whenever anyone serves you, it is considered proper to tip them. You may, however, refuse the service - many do. I have done it when I have no cash, etc. Also, many of the restroom servers offer gum, mints, candy, cologne, etc. I guess I look at it this way, that poor schmoe is making likely $2.00 an hour and I am dropping $100 or more for dinner. So, I usually give the dollar and don't look back. But, that is justy me. Also, in NYC, I think the concept of restroom server is way more prevelant than in most other places in America. So, I guess you deal with it far more than most.

I'd give a buck, no more. Not that common in Buffalo anyway. $10 or $20 is ridiculous, IMO.

At our county fair every year, they put tip plates out for the people that clean the bathrooms (who sit in said bathroom the whole time, btw.) It's bizarre. They don't hand you the paper towel, there's no lotions or mints or fancy extras. Sometimes they'll point & say "that one's open." I give them a quarter for that helpful hint.

Just go on & on with your requests to read & provide info from the menu to you until she's ready to hit you over the head with it. The next time you two go out to eat, she'll think twice before launching another menu recitation.

Most of mine are work related:

-People who call up my office to schedule an appointment, then have no idea when they want to come in, so they say "I'll have to look at my schedule and call you back."

-People who don't show up when they're supposed to. (This applies not only to the clients and coworkers at my job, but to any situation)

-People who - after I've answered the phone with "Vacaville Pet Vet Clinic, this is Victoria, how can I help you?" - ask me "Is this the Vacaville Pet Vet?"
No, dumb****s, it isn't. I just felt like answering the phone that way.

-People who insist on telling me the life stories of both themselves and their pets. Okay yeah, whatever. As if I give a ****.

-People who ask for a quote on services, then start going on about how "Back in my day, it only cost _______." That's nice. Welcome to 2007.

-People who call to make an appointment and, when asked why we need to see their pet, answer "Well I don't know. I'm not the vet." Well, you called us for a reason, right?

-People who ask "What's the earliest I can drop my pet off?" and when told that "We get here at 8:00 a.m." they say "But I have to be at work then." Guess what? So do I, and I'm not coming in any sooner just so you won't be inconvenienced.

-People who want to "just get some medicine" instead of bringing their pet in for an exam when a) We've never seen the animal before b) We haven't seen the animal in a long time or c) We've never seen the animal for that problem and get angry when told that doing so would be both unethical and illegal.

Other, not necessarily work related pet peeves:

-People who burp, fart or make any other obnoxious noise without apologizing/excusing themselves.

-People who leave the microwave door open after heating up food (especially since I bought our new microwave).

-People who eat all of my snack foods and never buy/bring in any to share.

-Parents who don't discipline children who are misbehaving in public. Also, parents who bring babies to restaurants, theaters, etc. and refuse to take them outside when they start crying.

-People who insist on trying to make conversation with me when I'm riding the bus. Look, if I've got my headphones on and am not making eye contact with anyone, that's not an invitation for you to talk to me.

michelle2677
10-15-2007, 07:00 AM
^^yes. love all of those job related ones. suprisingly, we deal with basically the same ones at my work. drives me crazy.

but my motto is "your failure to act in a timely manner is not my emergency"

but it'd be harder for me where you work though. It's not the pet's fault their owner didn't take care of them, ya know?

I know, painting your nails a real color is practically like having kids. You have to watch them all the time, keep them out of danger, handle them gingerly. Oy! (she said jewishly).
My long affair with nailpolish is always tinged with sorrow. And I mean long affair as in, I painted my nails from 3 years old, and my mom loves to tell the story of how I was 1.5 and came into their room one morning with "perfect red crosses painted on your hands and feet, and said 'I got Auntie Carol's possossis! (nailpolish is possossis)." So, see, even at 1.5 I apparently equated nailpolish with both the wonder of Jesus, and the pain of Jesus. How I painted crosses on my hands and feet when I was 1.5 with a tiny nail brush when I can't draw at all to this day is anyone's guess.

Just saying I agree with your peeve, big time. It makes me usually just hang with clear or clear silver sparkle.
Another nailpolish pet peeve - trying to find the perfect purple is like picking out a fricking house.:mad::p

Well I never thought about this before. Their meanings do overlap quite a bit. Where they diverge is that luxuriant means generous as in something is fruitful or abundant whereas luxurious more often connotes great expense.

You'll be even sadder when you are mysteriously burgled for one bottle by a "girl in black, chiffon style, with sparkly silver nails".
But that's the thing, one person's perfect purple is not the next person's. Not that I would ever burgle you to find out. "Ever" meaning, "maybe just once". But take heart, if I didn't like the purple, I would at least have the good grace to make fun of your bad nail taste, and try to resell the bottle. Hey, I'm no heathen...
