Something economical - low maintenance that is PAID OFF!

I've never been big into cars - I just want something reliable and again, PAID OFF

I had a car that was 6 months..just 6MONTHS from being paid off - it got totalled - so now I'm at square one.

I dont have a car. I am saving up for one. But I use my mom's which is a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero. But I want a 1955 Chevy like the ones I posted. I have loved those cars for a LONG time. I have seen prices range from $1,400 to $42,000

i'm not terribly picky at the moment ... kinda like deanna ... as long as it runs and is paid off, i'm happy. but really, my ideal car is a civic hybrid. i would really love to have a volkswagen jetta (red, tyvm), but unless they come out with a hybrid ...

oh, uh, but the dyke in me kinda wants a jeep wrangler ... the kind with the open sides & open top. yeah.

Actually 21K for a new car, in my book IS ridiculous....but I'm in public radio so

I paid too much for the car I have then saw that the new Toyota Yaris is way cheap - I wanted to cry - BUT I do love my car and the payment is manageable....and at least I HAVe a car and was not hurt in the accident - so really I do have a lot to be thankful for...

I do wish I could have afforded a hybrid though....but for now Doris (my new car) is amazing with gas

I guess I just don't know what cars cost. If 21 for a new car isn't cheap, what is ? 15 ? I am too cheap to ever buy a brand new car, so it's all silly to me, but I guess I am outta the loop and most of my friends are driving stupid 50k SUV things and German cars. And the last car I drooled over was some crazy Mercedes SUV WWII Jeep looking thing that was like 90K. I love that thing.

1970 AAR 'Cuda, any color is fine....But preferably black or Mopar Green. Just saw one selling for $170,000 and that is a reasonable price for such a classic.

I dont care for newer cars or luxury cars (Though the 2007 Dodge Challenger is rather bitching, looks just like the 1970 Challenger), I am from a muscle car family...No tricking-out a car is ALLOWED!!!!

Well I don't know about other people's budgets - perhaps 20K is perfectly affordable for a car- but sadly, not in my world :D

I did, however, just see an amazing car while watching the PBS show History Detectives:

A sunbeam Alpine - unfortunately there are only like 200 or something - so oh well

I don't even understand what a 20k car means. What does that payment translate to ? Like 300 a month or something ? Forgive me, I am silly when it come to this. I paid off my vehicle a long time ago, so I don't know what the payment was. 200 a month maybe ?

My brother still has his 70 Dodge Charger, he bought it when he got out of the Service. That car is in PRISTINE shape, and he modified it slightly when he raced it at Freemont Raceway. He also had a 69 Corvette, which he took me to my High School Graduation in. I felt so cewl riding up to the High School in a superfast 'Vette!

Im a muscle car kinda gal myself.....one of my favorite cars is the Chevy Malibu, probably late 60's with a small block engine (327). I like the SuperSport version best

Cars? Don't even go there. I have to buy a new one and it is killing me. It is also killing me that I don't one at the moment.
I don't want to spend a lot of $ on a stupid car that I will be paying month after month for years. I will need a good one for October, however.:D
Anybody have any new car advice?

Subaru & Nissan cars also get great gas mileage (Our '96 Nissan Sentra GXE, which has about 318,000 still gets an average 37 miles per gallon-Which is great considering Deb puts 500 miles a week on the odometer commuting). Like my Mom said, "Drive it til it is absolutely blown up and cannot be repaired", which is what we do to our Nissan.

Still wished I would have kept my '79 Subaru BRAT, but that's alright, In the future I am planning on purchasing a Subaru Baja (Which is the BRAT with a new name).

My older brother owns a Shelby Dodge Avenger, which is a beautiful car. He even had Carroll Shelby (Creator of the 427 Shelby Cobra & the designer of the Ford Mustang) sign the dashboard. Only about 800 were made.

My parents, God bless 'em both, were muscles cars enthusiasts:

Mom owned a '76 Pontiac Trans Am & '68 Camaro SS.
Dad owned a '69 GTO Judge convertible & a '62 Malibu Stationwagon

well, I have a 2001 maxima that was about 15,000 and my payment is 325 per month so I'm assuming 21k would be much more than that. But if you got a new car and were able to negotiate a 0% interest that it would be quite a bit cheaper.

probably the generation they grew up in....I sorta get it by default because my older brother was into muscle cars and I think my generation was the last one to really own them en masse...in other words as a group. they were everywhere you looked when I was growing up. The Mach 1's, the Cameros/Firebirds, the Malibus the 'Cudas, Corvettes, etc....Its funny, when I was in the Bay Area (in the late 60's) it was all about the "sky kings" but when I moved more to the Delta (East Bay Area) you saw more low riders/cruising cars. different strokes for different folks I guess...

Here is a car loan calculator http://www.bankrate.com/brm/auto-loan-calculator.asp

For a $21,000 car at 0% (.01 actually cuz it wouldn't take zero) and 5 years the payment is $350/mo. 3% = $377 and 7%= $416.

I want the convertible, sport Camry Solara.
