This will surely change as great movies always come out late in the year. So far, my favorites are Quinceanera (best gay character in years) and Little Miss Sunshine.

Yours?

I haven't seen very many movies this year but I did love The Descent. I think it's one of the best horror movies in a long time.

I don't know if it's my favourite, but a couple of days ago I watched Belle Toujours by De Oliveira, a kind of sequel to Belle du Jour without Catherine Deneuve (she refused to do it). I thought I would have hated it (you just don't touch Bunuel) , but I liked it a lot instead, it was deliciously surreal and cynic, with a Michel Piccoli in wonderful shape.

In no order:

Walk The Line
The Proposition
Brick
The Squid And The Whale
Sympathy For Lady Vengeance
Three Burials
Slither
Talladega Nights
Hard Candy
Junebug
Superman Returns
The Devil And Daniel Johnston

Gerald, I was disappointed by Tideland. I'm a huge Gilliam fan but I felt he couldn't decide what kind of movie he wanted to make. Plus some parts were jaw-droppingly grotesque. Jeff Bridges was great though.

I understand what you mean. A lot of his movies suffer from that. It's just the unbelievable visual power. Sometimes I feel like he's ripping my head off because my brain can't cope with what I see. This movie has that in extrema. I can't believe that my mind accepts things that are so aweful. He-and imo only he- can do that without me closing my eyes. The pictures are too beautiful.

I saw "Half Nelson" yesterday and not only is it my favorite movie of the year, but one of my favorites ever.

It has been a crapola year for movies, but some good ones are starting to come out.

the best thing i've seen from this year is Heart of Gold - barely counts as a movie but is still the best thing i've seen so far.
