I used to work at a upscale grocery store back in the day, and I was fascinated by all the exotic cheeses they had for sale in the deli. One thing I definitely noticed was that the more weirder the cheese smelled, the more expensive it was! There was this one French goat cheese called Bucheron that was over $30 a pound! So does anyone have their own favorite kind of cheese? Mine would be Swiss. My Grandma used to love this one kind of soft sheese called laughing cow that I also really liked. Unfortunately, my mother loves Limburger! UGH!

You have to go to Murray's in the Village in NYC. They have every cheese you can think of and can't think of. It's been featured on Food Network and on other channels. But yea...I love cheese... Fresh Mozz and only fresh is my favorite.

Sorry I'm late you guys.......
I *love* cheese. But not Swiss & not sharp cheddar. I don't like cheese to be bitter. Oh, but smoked cheddar rocks!
Here's a link to a handy cheese encyclopedia: http://www.wegmans.com/freshProducts/cheese/encyclopedia/
Great "generic" cheeses: pepper jack, monterey jack, colby jack, mild cheddar, provolone, mozzerella. Fresh grated parm over hot pasta. Lorraine is quite good, and so is Muenster. Gorgonzola or Bleu is great on a burger.
Great "fancier" cheeses: Wensleydale with cherries, white stilton with apricot, nice fresh Greek feta, fresh mozzerella, this one mild white cheese with dill that someone brought into work a few weeks ago.
Oh, and of course, how could I forget. Velveeta. :D

I'm actually not a huge fan of cheese. I don't like smelly expensive cheeses - in NYC my sister and I went to some fancy shmancy restaurant and got a cheese platter - I'm SO not upscale.
One cheese smelled and tasted like a moldy shower curtain. Gross.
Also I can't eat cheese by iteself (unless I've pulled it off pizza) - I need it to be with other things. Except a good Colby, that I can eat on its own.
I HATE Ricotta. The texture really bothers me, yet I'll eat it in lasagne heh....go figure.

Oh Paula, you're so cheesy :pWAHHHH WAHHH WAHHHHHH:lol:
Announcement: The best cheese in the world.
Brie du meau
....you think you've had brie? Oh, I assure friends, you have not. Not if you've tried this. The flavour is rich, dense, creamy, slightly woody taste, mildly like asparagus. One little nibble fills your whole mouth with this exotic, intense flavour. The aroma alone is intoxicating. I'm salivating just thinking about it.
Here's the thing...most authentic French cheeses are unpasteurized...which is apparently illegal in the States. Bizarre. This cheese is actually documented in the book Heat, where the narrator/chef actually smuggles a bunch of unpasteurized cheeses from France to the US, and brazenly eats some on the plane. I love it!

It doesn't smell bad, frankly it has a subtile but rich smell, soft but with character. I don't like brie in general but this one's exquisite.
Poor guys in the states. Dutch farmercheeses are unbeatable. The older the better. You can bury me alive in it. I ate cheese for 40 years on a daily base. I will do that the next 40 years too. As long as there's cheese there's life.
Cheez, I've eaten so much cheese that you can call me a cheesehead. I'm glad I never started a cheesestore. I would have eaten it. My dog is a cheese hua hua, My sport Tai Cheese, hell, even my grandad died in the same planecrash as Richeese Valens.

I actually worked in the cheesedepartment of a supermarket long ago, my God I smelled awful each night I came home  But I love cheese... hm, which ones haven't been mentioned yet?
Roquefort, danish blue? Dutch cheese faves: Maaslander, Cantenaar. Another fave is a Belgian cheese called Passendale. Nice mild taste. Parmigiano...
fresh cheeses: hüttenkäse, tastes great in a spinach pie... ah yum... I still have to decide what I'm having for dinner tonight, I guess it'll be something cheesy!

  Ah, the mammaries! I went to France, during High school. I brought some Brie home, except I brought it home in my carry-on bag. Well, this **** started stinking, and I mean bad! Everyone on the plane was like, "WHAT's that awful smell?" "Jesus, that smells bad!".
"Oh, that's just the cheese in my suitcase".:o :p

I knew we already did a cheeese thread! Here you go, Sharon! I didn't want to start another thread about cheese, so I've revived a 7 month old thread for everyone instead. And please note - it wasn't initially started by me! (I know, I was a bit shocked myself.)

How did I miss this the first time around? I heart cheese. Any kind really, the more the merrier (well, except goat cheese, ugh).
I'm going to stand by Gerald (except for the old cheese Ger, you're on your own with that) and Mari and say that Dutch cheese is YUM. Maaslander is great, Gouda is...good. The rest, yup.
I prefer French cheese though. Anything French, especially their blue cheeses. (cheesi? )

Whenever I go to Paris I always visit this little cheese shop they have in Montmartre, near the Sacre Coeur. They practically have to drag me out of there. ;)

There's one in the UK that's called 'stinking bishop'! Taste is ok (the cheese) but it smells soooo bad. Have you tried it?
The French cheeses are best IMO - although I was in Gary Danko in San Francisco last year and they had some fantastic cheeses from Oregon. Tasted amazing!

 I've shared this story before, but what the hell, it's short. In high school, I went to France, and decided to bring some cheese home, in my carry-on(stored in the overhead compartment). Well, it started stinking, and getting worse, and worse. Everyone was like, "what's that SMELL?" Only my friends knew where the mysterious odor was coming from!
