I've found a new respect for this song, lyrically and vocally. I think it has some really poignant lyrics and while, at first, I thought Stevie's vocal was below par, it's really grown on me and I can appreciate the emotion that her lower register and quality gives the lyric. it all just seems to fit. damn those stupid "ahhh" parts...that's the only thing I haven't reconciled yet.

your thoughts?

I love love love it. The lyrics and music are very pleasing, but the vocal is what kills me. She just opened her mouth and sang it, and didn't strain or force herself to hit notes. It has that breathy relaxed sound. In a way it reminds me of Storms, because the vocal is soft but very intense.

"What a ride..."

I like TISL from beginning to end. It's on that album, right? "love it"

(Yes, chiliD said something complimentary about Stevie Nicks)

Love it! Even though she didn't write it, she sings it like no other. I love her vocals on that.

(pst, is anyone else having trouble with this website or is that just me? )

This was one of the first songs on TISL that I really clicked with - I was into it in a big way for a while, then I discovered the other tracks and I didn't like it so much - but I do like it alot.

Its on TISL - How could it not be good :D

Good vocal. But the few times she's performed it live, it did sound a little flat.

Very good, but just can't compete with other songs.

One of my favorites on TISL. Better than almost all the rest of the record. I love the fact that the vocals aren't overdubbed within an inch of their life. It is extremely simple and clean. I hear more emotion on this vocal than any other on the record. Was great to hear live, even if she ditched the few high notes.

I saw her sing it at the TISL showcase performance at SIR in hollywood. I believe she and Sheryl also did a messy version at Shine in NY.

I really love this song, Jason- and did from day one. I remember hearing it and thinking it was so "Stevie". But I agree with whoever said it doesn't stand up live.

It actually had the most potential to be a radio hit!!!

I love this song dearly - it's just beautiful and sort of sadish sounding - and I just basically love it.

Have to say I don't like it at all...

I didn't realise Stevie didn't write it but it doesn't surprise me. I don't like any of the songs on TISL that Stevie didn't write, and this one, while it is sort of poignant and some of the lyrics are really nice, it just didn't click with me. I nearly always skip it and Love Changes together -- they just sort of bore me somewhat.

TISL is like a lot of Stevie's greatest albums -- mostly awesome songs but with a few low points and when they're low, they stick out.
That said, TISL's high points are right up in the sky.
Just my €0.02!

It didn't stand up live because she didn't do it enough and because she wouldn't sing it in that soft voice and hit the semi falsetto notes. Which, let the record so indicate, aren't even all that high.

The live version I heard sounded kind of whiny- not just the high notes. And the "Ahh" part was kind of uncomfortable.
