View Full Version : Been putting some thought into Under the Skin...

So, I've been thinking about Say You Will, Gift of Screws, and Under the Skin.

It occurs to me that there is a good amount of acoustic-ish stuff left over from Gift of Screws that could make up the bulk of Under the Skin:

-Someone's Got to Change Your Mind
-She Smiled Sweetly
-Trying for the Sun
-The Singer, not the Song
-Down on Rodeo
-Blue Turns to Grey
-Hit and Run (because we know nothing about this song, it COULD be in this category)
-Gotta Get Away

Plus,

-Big Yellow Taxi

That's 9 songs total that could start it off, many of which are songs I truly expect to see on the new album. Then, there are some electric songs that he could either be saving for another new solo album, or for a Fleetwood Mac album (as rumour has it):

-My Little Demon (since we already say Bleed to Love Her on SYW, why not see a studio version of this song, too??)
-Shuffle Riff
-Gift of Screws
-Deep Dense
-Twist of Fate
-Wear You Down
-Given Thing

That's 7 very SYW sounding songs--probably the other songs Lindsey wanted to use for the double-disc SYW he originally wanted. Thus, he's probably divided the rest of his GoS songs into acoustic and electric--acoustic for a solo album, then electric songs (which probably already feature Mick and John) for a new Fleetwood Mac album.

Just a thought, but I think its pretty likely. Especially since he did NOT put some of his best songs, like Twist of Fate and Trying For the Sun, on SYW--he was probably trying to save a few gems for upcoming albums.

Here's hoping!

Well all of that would be a disappointment for me. Lindsey stated 3 years ago that he was writing like crazy on new songs. I hope that is the base of the album. I don`t expect and wouldn`t like coverversions on this new CD. Especially not 3-5 of them. Dito with the old GOS stuff.
I`d like a completely new album with a cohesive sound.
Let`s see...

Would Lindsey really release that many covers on one of his own albums?

Rolling Stones:
Blue Turns To Grey
I Am Waiting
The Singer Not The Song
Gotta Get Away
She Smiled Sweetly

Donovan:
Try For The Sun

Joni Mitchell:
Big Yellow Taxi

Ummm... I don't think so.

Plus...he's had kids since he wrote the GOS material...I would think that the entire feel of songs he's written since he became a father would be night & day of a difference to the "tortured/angst-ridden artist" he was prior to that. And, that he'd give priority to the newer material than the old stuff that he never really got around to finishing (or so it seems)

I want NO GOS or cover tunes. Like Stefan said...Lindsey said he was working on new songs and I wanna hear all new, fresh stuff.

While I do think there is going to be more GOS material on there, there will at least be a couple of new songs also. Last time we heard from him regarding the new album he mentioned he wrote happy songs though. Can't wait to hear what that sounds like. ;)

i would love it if some of the long lost Gift of Screws tracks show up -

i think we can at least expect a few left overs but i'm sure at least half of them will be new.

Who knows, we might finally get to hear Is It Right.

And maybe he'll finally release Heartbreaker and Butterfly as well. ;)

I hope NO GOS-tracks. Except Given Thing-not planned for the GOS-release, Ideal for an acoustic take and......oh so happy:woohoo:

I hope the whole album consists of nothing but Sons of the Pioneers material -- or some of the tunes used in Gene Autry movies.

While I, too, would like to get nothing but a bunch of new songs and preferably only a few covers, I still think we will be getting a bunch of stuff with which we are already familiar--especially if this turns into a double CD (which wouldn't be too surprising, now, would it?). Then I can easily picture having all the Stones covers (add I Am Waiting to the list above, I forgot that one). Strictly speculative here.

However, I do also somewhat hope that some of the GoS stuff does get released. Chances are that he will NOT be performing any unreleased stuff during his tour, and there are a few GoS songs I'd love to hear performed live.

I just hope he keeps his nose out of politics--Peacekeeper makes me groggy. Lindsey, you are a talented individual with feelings, not another ex-hippy trying to make a quick buck and a statement with white noise. I'd rather hear an entire album of covers than any political songs, personally.

Counting down the days till October 3rd...

Hello to all from the middle of nowhere; apologies for the long silence. I've been 'stationed' (teaching English) on a tiny island next to the bigger island I've been on in Japan for the past 2 years. Won't have internet at my new place for 2 weeks, and of course this is when news of Lindsey's new solo album finally surfaces after all these years! (Am currently using the internet station at the local library.)

Probably won't be able to make it out to the States this time around, but I look forward to hearing the album and keeping track of all you guys as you go to see Lindsey live.

My thoughts for the album? Contrary to Mr Stew and some others, I agree with Gerald (no suprise) and friends about the more of 'Shut Us Down' the better. (Is my Shut Us Down avatar still on here? I have avatars turned off for workplace etc.) And most of all I'm hoping for a Down On Rodeo album version of some kind or another! Soundstage was great but the GOS final version was masterfully done.

I will pop in and lurk from time to time as more details develop. See you around everyone!

the GOS material has never been released in any way, right? aside from the songs that made it to SYW, why shouldn't he use it - we technically shouldn't know that it exists. i want new songs, but i won't be surprised or disappointed if we get a bunch of GOS tunes.

sometimes, there is a downside to knowing what we know. if i wasn't hanging out on the Ledge, i'd never have found the GOS songs or been expecting a solo album (and been let down so many times) etc. everything would be a pleasant surprise... but who wants that :wavey:

I'd say these...

Somebody's Gotta Change Your Mind - Opener? Like on Soundstage
Shut Us Down - Perfect closer
Given Thing
Down On Rodeo - Could be re-recorded as an acoustic, but could be saved for the follow-up as well
I Am Waiting - Played on Soundstage, I doubt he would use more than one cover of any one artist on this album, but Blue Turns to Gray and She Smiled Sweetly would fit in great
To Try For The Sun - Great acoustic number, but again another cover

I think it wouldn't heard for LB to release Big Love and Go Insane in their acoustic form, like the 2 awesome versions he did on The Dance re-recorded. We will probably get a handful of new songs that he was writing and recorded while on the road during Say You Will.

The rock and roll one will probably have Shuffle Riff, Deep Dense, Gift of Screws, Steve's Riff, Twist of Fate and maybe Gotta Get Away and The Singer Not The Song.

I wonder if he will have any guest artists? Whatever, I am stoked for some new LB
