I'm curious: who here uses Google or Yahoo alerts? I use Google, and most of mine are for my favorite artists: Stevie, FM, Bonnie Raitt, Cyndi Lauper, Barbra Streisand, Christine McVie, and Dolly Parton; but I also have separate alerts for linguistics, psycholinguistics, and sociolinguistics. What kind of topics do you have your alerts set for? Do you prefer Google, Yahoo, or another site?

hmm, that sounds handy. I'll have to not be a retard for a few minutes and set some.
All I have is ticketmaster alerts.
I'd probably set some health/nutrition/exercise ones...coupons, free stuff, contests...

Ooh, I should set ticketmaster alerts! If you're going to set news alerts, I recommend Google ... I used Yahoo forever until I got sick of how slow and weird they were.

Okay! Thanks for the tip.
Yahoo search engine is lame anyway, I know so because I read an article about their stock dropping, and them scrambling to make their search engine better, and google kicking their a** in advertising revenues. :p

Good, yahoo needs some healthy competition. And by competition, I mean they have no chance of catching up. Wasn't there some meeting of the minds recently about improving search engines? I know people from google were there, and people from ask.com ...
speaking of ask.com, i HATE their commercials, where they essentially campaign against google for giving you too many options.

Um, I think yes on the first one, and I can't remember ask.com commercials.
Actually, I heard about a big meeting where yahoo was there talking about how to improve theirs, but what do I know?

Since I work in a newsroom and my entire afternoon (5 hours of it) is spent listening to news and the rest of the day consists of having news on in the background - and up on my desktop _ I don't really feel I need an alert thingy - of course for artist stuff it could be cool....
But I get my fill of news on a daily basis - in fact I become ignorant on the weekends, completely cutting myself off from anything "newsy"

It's funny you should ask, I just recently set one up for Stevie. Her name comes up so often! I get an email almost every day. I set it up on Google. The algorithm they set up for their web searches is pure genius. I can always find what I am looking for and always use them. Yahoo sucks, I'm so sick of them. But MySpace sucks worse.

I know, I'm surprised at how often I get Stevie alerts. And all my other artist alerts, actually. It's a great toy, these news alerts. We agree on Yahoo and Myspace :D
And Deanna - That's why I like the news alerts, actually. Because if I don't want to read depressing stories about monkey boy and the middle east, I don't have to wade through them to get to my fluff FM stories.
