Tom Petty is on Fresh Air tonight - though it's probably already aired in most areas - but you can still hear it online...pretty good interview...

I didn't know his house was burned down by an arsonist! Crazy...anyway - just thought I'd give y'all the heads up - it's a pretty entertaining show :D

Awesome, thank you! I love. I like what he says about radio, I had the same experience even though it was so late, because I didn't buy records or tapes or CD's.
He's so mellow. No wonder it took a bit to warm up to Stevie.
So far, hearing two tracks from his new album - I like them.
His lyrics really are so regular that they remind you of those everyday moments and emotions in your life that pass, but areyour life - the ones that weren't dramatic, but that you long for and look back on nostalgically. The stuff of what your life really is, what it really feels like. It's deep without being abstruse.

It's funny how he, and a few other singers like Stevie, Bob Dylan, and even Linds a bit have very nasal voices, but their voices are also so pretty. Because nasal things usually aren't thought of as pretty. I think Tom and Stevie are the best examples of this, and Tom even more than Stevie.
I never knew anything about his life, I think it's interesting and a bit telling that he played all day with black kids in back of his dad's store.

"Being a live, it's a challenge, isn't it?"

I can't f*cking WAIT till the concerts!!!!

YES! That's exactly it. Romantic without being cheesy, nostalgic without being silly. Love it. Some of my favorite lines:

"....yeah it was nearly all summer, we sat on your roof, yeah we smoked cigarettes and we stared at the moon..."

"...it's so painful, something that's so close, but still so far out of reach..."

"...And then she looks me in the eye, says, we gonna last forever,
And man, you know I cant begin to doubt it
No, because this feels so good and so free and so right,
I know we aint never goin change our minds about it..."

"...I'll be the boy in the corduroy pants
You be the girl at the high school dance
Run with me wherever I go
And just play dumb, whatever you know..."

Those are my exact favorite lines. That stare at the moon one really gets me. They all do. I usually cry at the one from american girl you just posted. :o Nostalgia hits me hard, though. I just started crying reading it. I love him.

Who would've thought that the man who was my favorite singer when I was 8 would still top my list at age 25?

Petty = greatness.

There was a thread on the Warren Zevon boards for quite awhile debating whether or not Tom Petty is God. My vote? Absolutely.
