I'm not sure if a thread like this has been started before - I know there was a DVD one - but I'm narrowing it.
TV shows on DVD. Like the concept? Hate it?
What TV shows do you have/want?
---
I'll start.
I LOVE this concept. When they started releasing the Little House on the Prairie seasons I was beyond excited, and I now own all seasons :D
I also own:
Golden Girls (right now only 1-3)
Xena Season2
Wings Seasons 1 and 2
I'm considering getting Friends and I really really want X-Files, Ab Fab and Sex and the City.

The Office (US version...season 1)
I have:
The Office (UK version...both seasons and the special)
Keen Eddie (entire season)
Blackadder (all seasons plus the specials)
The Monkees (both seasons)
That's all I can think of at the moment.

You have got to get Wings..I'm loving it - it's a real trip down memory lane.
And I didn't realize that some of my favorite episodes are from the early days! Namely the one with Trivial Pursuit

I love TV shows on DVD. That's the major problem with TV shows on TV: commercials. So DVDs remove that problem right off the bat.
I have "I Love Lucy" Seasons 1 through 6 on DVD, plus I have "The Partridge Family," "SCTV," "Your Show of Shows," "This Is Your Life" & "Sanford & Son."

Man, do we have different taste in TV shows. I love ya David, but the above shows, IMO, suck!
The only show I've bought is the first 3 seasons of Seinfeld. BUT, I just don't watch them as much as I thought I would, so I've not bought any more. I've seen them all soooooooooooooooooo many times before I got the DVDs.
Right now, I have, from the library, Golden Girls, 3rd Rock, and......Starsky and Hutch!(ducks!)
I'd like to own:
Married, with Children
MASH
Dick Van Dyke Show(imo, the best sitcom of all time).

So far I just have Gilmore Girls seasons 1 - 3. I want seasons 4 and 5 but haven't caught them on sale yet. I want to get Point Pleasant because they only aired half of the episodes they shot. It was a series that was canceled about a year and a half ago. It just never took off.

I just thought of a couple of shows I'd like to see on DVD -
The Naked Truth (I LOVE Tea Leoni)
and Flying Blind (early Tea Leoni show, I don't even know if it made it a whole season!)

My local library has X-Files on DVD. But, it's really popular, and they usually have "holds" placed on them, before they even get returned.
Anyone else get videos from the library? I just started a couple months ago. Money's so tight right now, I had to find some CHEAP entertainment.

I used to do that. But one time I had 20 videos checked out at once. I chucked them all into my closet and forgot about them for 2 weeks. The $50 late fine pissed me off, so now I go to Blockbuster.

Ha! They've warned me once, and I offered to pay the day's fine, but they told me to forget about it.
And yeah, I get about 12-15 at a time. I'm usually in town every Tuesday, with about two hours to kill before I go to work, so I head for the library.
What I wish is that I had a new computer. Two of my friends have the program where you can copy ANY DVD. That's the first program I'm installing, IF, I can ever afford a new one!

I love it that they're releasing television shows on DVD. I just wish they'd do it with more of them.
I have:
Black Adder - The Complete Collector's Edition
Mr. Bean - The Whole Bean
Mr. Bean - The Animated Series
The Thin Blue Line - the complete series
Ren and Stimpy - Seasons 1-5
Married With Children Seasons 1-4
Queer As Folk (American Version) - All 5 seasons
Queer As Folk (British Version) - both seasons
House, M.D. - Season One (and have pre-ordered season 2)
Grey's Anatomy - Season One (and have pre-ordered season 2)
Night Court - Season One
Night Court - Television favorites collection
Wild Boys - Season One
I would like to get the rest of the Married With Children collection, the Roseanne series and A Bit of Fry and Laurie. Also I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they put out the remaining seasons of Night Court; sales of the first season were lower than anticipated so we may never get the rest.
I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that they'll release all of Daria on DVD (so far only some specials have been released) and also my biggest guilty pleasure: Nash Bridges.

All the ones I've highlighted in bold red I also started collecting because I am a HUGE Lucille Ball fanatic (I love my redhead gals Lucy and Carol Burnette!) and I MUST have them all! I saw Tim Conway and Harvey Korman perform skits live in Atlanta at the Fox Theatre a couple of years ago (lucky for me I got close seats the night of the show!) and it was the funniest thing I have EVER seen live! I wanted to see Vicki Lawrence in her live act, but it was never in my area so that I could attend.

I recently started collecting Designing Women and Golden Girls episodes, mainly because I've been to the sets of each show (in Atlanta and Florida) and I just love the actresses and I continue to follow them in all their roles.

She knows me from all the years I've brought new customers in from the UK and everywhere else...she ever comes and sits a spell with us when she can to chat.

Alias Seasons 1-4
Gilmore Girls Seasons 1-5

There are ones that I want, but I'm too skint- new BBC Doctor Who Series 1 (shut. up.), Battlestar Galactica, The Sopranos/Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., etc. I'm also waiting for an Angel box set like the Buffy Chosen Collection. I just cant get into watching seasons of a TV show on DVD, tried it in the past and each time I ended up selling the DVD's (Which I recently did yet again).
My attention span is very short in regards to ANY broadcast...So give me music instead (And yes, I also cannot sit through music DVD's, More of an old-timer who prefers cd/tape over DVD).

 When I first moved here a few weeks ago all I had was a portable DVD player (lent to me by my sister) and no money so I went to the library - what a great thing! I never knew they had such great and current videos there!!!
The only problem I noticed is that some of them are SO banged up = a couple wouldn't even play. People piss me off.
OMG i didn't know anyone else on earth had ever seen the naked truth!!! that show was hilarious. it used to be on in the mornings on the usa network.
LOVED LOVED that show - a little less so when they changed it all around and they added George Wendt or something - but I still enjoyed it. I seriously think Tea Leoni is so under-rated. Of course I could just be biased because I've had the hots for her since the "Flying Blind" days.

What, you never watched Northern Exposure? That's more in your timeline. Now that I think about it, I did see that one. I liked it quite a lot--although the two main characters were irritating with their yuppie childishness, the peripheral characters--the DJ, the Indian boy, the sheriff, the diner owner, the wandering moose--were all interesting & amusing.

Hey, the truth hurts! Easy on Grandpa Dave!
He likes Sanford and Son!
Sanford & Son is one of the great 1970s corrosive subversions of what ultimately became PC minority rhetoric, & I think it's a hoot & a howl. You don't know what you're missing, Dave. Don't you love the corruscating W.C. Fields? Sanford & Son carries on that tradition.
The theme song is also the best theme song with a clavinet ever on TV.

Sanford and Son is okay, David. I've seen em all though.
If you've noticed, it seems to me like the sitcoms that are really considered classic, seem to revolve around the characters, NOT the times. S&S, I guess, doesn't really play on "the times" as much as some others(although it does to some extent). I can't recall a sitcom that is considered "classic", where the characters lived in virtual poverty.
Stuff like Good Times, Maude, All in the Family(I wasn't INTENDING to name all Norman Lear projects!) just seem to topical to withstand the test of time.
Just my 2 cents. Your mileage may vary....
My alltime favorite is The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Wow!!! We have a lot of similar taste in TV shows! And, Paula rocks! I went to Savannah a few months ago and loved it! It was seriously the coolest little city. I want to move there! The restaurants, the shops, the cobblestone streets, it was so charming. You are so lucky!

I HATE Lucy, even though ya'all seem to love it. Al Bundy was right, "they should've killed em all off, and made Fred the star, and called it 'Mertz's World'".
How can you not love I Love Lucy? I don't think anything makes me laugh so much. Nothing else compares to the belly laughs I get from watching Lucy. Although, Ethel and Fred are my favorite characters...

Does anyone here like Resurrection Blvd? I think it's very good. And I'm curious about Curb Your Enthusiasm. I was also thinking to write something about it, in Italy isn't very known, this year it debuted here on cable.

Thin Blue Line: Complete Series
You know, I bought this set without ever having seen any of the episodes because I LOVE Blackadder and Mr. Bean and assumed that I would like this show, too, but I really didn't like it. A lot of that seemed to have to do with me not understanding what the hell was going on or what the characters were talking about. It just didn't seem to have the same sort of universal appeal as the other two - I mean, Mr. Bean is essentially a mute. Most of the comedy is physical so there's not much in the way of cultural differences (like the use of slang, for example) to get past. The comedy of Blackadder comes mostly from making fun of stupid people and who doesn't love that? But I just didn't get The Thin Blue Line. I don't know, maybe I'm just dense. (No comments from the peanut gallery, please. Just snicker to yourselves.)
On a side note, I saw that you have the Mr. Bean boxed set, have you seen any of animated Mr. Bean series yet?

I love TV on DVD. Mainly because all TV shows are crap now. I actually only have the first 5 seasons of the Golden Girls personally, but I'd love to have:
Mary Tyler Moore Show
Bob Newhart Show ('70s)
Taxi (I have a thing for Judd Hirsch)
Sanford & Son
All in the Family (maybe just the first few seasons)
Maude
Good Times (maybe just the first 2 or 3 seasons until John Amos left)
Who's the Boss?
Moonlighting
I'm sure there are more, but that's what I came up with so far...

A lot of that seemed to have to do with me not understanding what the hell was going on or what the characters were talking about. It just didn't seem to have the same sort of universal appeal as the other two....I watch a lot of Britcoms, so the slang doesn't really phase me. Every now and then there might be a reference that goes over my head, but not too often. 'Thin Blue Line' is definitely one of my favorites (hence the reason I own the boxed-set! ) -- I just wish they had filmed more episodes.
I haven't seen the animated Bean series yet, but I've heard it's really cute. I'm sure I'd love it.

Mr. Bean: The Complete Mr. Bean
Well, I have Mr. Bean on VHS, but I do have the whole thing. I have the first 2 seasons of Coupling too. "Nudity buffer", "sock gap", "giggle loop", "Lesbian Spank Inferno"...hilarious!
Oh and Homer, I don't love Lucy either.

I have the first 2 seasons of Coupling too.I only have the first season so far... those sets are SO expensive for just a handful of episodes on each. I love that show though.
My list would've also included the 'Dark Shadows' revival from the '90s, but I boycotted that set when I learned that they cropped the footage to create a faux widescreen effect. What an idiotic idea. Grrr.
I do have every episode on VHS though. MPI released them about 10 years ago, and some of the volumes included deleted/extended scenes.

I don't have many, don't really see a point since I usually watch them once. Of course, I have no problem watching reruns of shows on TV over & over again. Hmmmm....
Gilmore Girls Seasons 1, 2 & 3
Chappelle's Show Seasons 1&2
Family Guy Seasons 1&2
I think that's it. I think if I had the following, I would actually watch them more than once
Golden Girls
Soap
I don't think any of the following are out on DVD:
China Beach
Good Times
Maude
One Day at a Time
