Significant other? Do you mean my 19 year old daughter or my three cats? My daughter and I met on Halloween when I gave birth to her. I adopted my three feline children. I'm not really interested in finding any more "significance." I wish you well though! :wavey:

Really? You're just not interested in dating at all? That just might be the way to go!
This thread seems to be backfiring.

let's see...Take one hormonal 21 year old male, add a bunch of liquor/alcohol (One of the few times I got blitzed) and one attractive 27 year old female...And there ya go!
Sad but hilariously true
It amazes me that we are still together after 15 years...I have beat both my parents and siblings in length of a relationship & marriage.

I met my boyfriend at a highschool formal dance. We were both asking about some girl that everyone hated, and who she was, and it turns out she was sitting between us. So we were both so embarrassed, we just kind of went off and hugh out away from her. :p

Great thread, Suzy! :xoxo:
My one and only hubby of 16 years saw me and a girlfriend at a drive-up window downtown, and he slid across the hood of my car and up to my window and started singing AC/DC's "Can I Sit Next To You Girl" to me. We were only 18 and 19 years old, and he was quite the partier that was pretty well on his way to drunkland that night, but all I saw were those beautiful eyes that you've seen that he has, and how sweet he was...and has always been, since! Him looking exactly like Phil Collen of Def Leppard didn't hurt, either...:D

My boyfriend, who I plan on trapping into marriage asap, saw me on my first night working part-time at his store- I was ringing someone up, and he thought I was so pretty that he walked straight into a book table while staring.
He asked me out a couple of times over that summer, and I didn't really realize that's what he was doing. Probably because I was distracted by the Star Wars cross-hatch books he was reading at the time. He's a dork, but he's my dork. Our little secret is that I am actually way dorkier than he is.

I met my husband online through yahoo. I had been on a string of bad dates through the site and decided that this would be the last one. I was so nervous and tried to get to the restaurant before he did. He said he saw me walk up and sit down outside on a bench and flip my hair off my shoulders. He said he instantly feel for me. After the evening was over I tried to act cool ~ we hugged and he said he would call. I thought I can't let this one get away sooooo I blurted out ARE YOU SURE YOUR GOING TO CALL ME? As soon as I said it I wanted to DIE. He came back over to my car and hugged me and said yes he will call. I got in my car and drove off freaking out. How could I sound so desperate ~ so stupid. I was hitting the steering wheel calling myself all kinds of names. Then I was resolved that I would never heard from him again. I went home and was outside playing with my animals (they always bring my comfort). When I went back inside I had missed a call from him. He came by the next day on his Harley and we have spent almost everyday since then together. We married last year. And yes ~ he still makes fun of me ~

What a great thread, Suze...I've been wondering about how people meet lately too - as it seems to be so damn hard for me. Of course I also realized that I'm a lot less social than I used to be, a lot less out-going and a lot less "free-spirited" and I can't figure out when I lost those things :distress:

The net is an especially good place to meet people if you don't go out much I would think. In the old days before computers, people that didn't go out sat at home on their own. Nowadays people that don't go out talk to people that don't go out online. Some of my best friends I met online.
I would think eventually it will overtake all other forms of people meeting. I still believe 95 times out of 100 if you meet somebody in a bar it isn't going to work out. Supermarkets work. Or so I'm told. If you hang around the "meals for one" section you can take your pick of the people that come in..
Thats my tip of the week girls. :wavey: :)

Lindsey B thought Seteca and I were gay during a gig back in 2003 (I was expecting him to tell us to go stand in front of Stevie). Then he realised we were more interested in his playing skills than him and he chilled right out. The next night he was cool, grinning and messing about with us. I don't think he's comfortable with male attention.

No, I really don't think he is. You know that face he made in Pattie's old signature with her quote about the solo album? Yeah, that's the face I think I remember him making one night. LOL
Every dang time Lindsey looked at me or pointed at me...I nudged Seteca. He probably had sore ribs.

Thre has been 3 signifcant others in my life. The last (adn current) one was while I was traveling, at a rain forest 4 years ago. It begun like a fairy tale, though fairy tales of course don't exist. So right now, after few separations and reconciliations, it is very nice but not magic. There's no magic anymore when you are 40.

I'm just dating someone, but I guess exclusively, so...all I can tell you with this one is get a best friend who has a brother...  Yes, I'm dating my best friend's brother. He lives in Chico, though.
Let's go through my list, shall we?
First semi bf for one month - He was camping next to us the month we spent working in Alaska.
First real bf - met him where we worked. I believe when he first saw me, I was walking up the stairs away from him, and he was down below, and he said "who's that?!"
He was a butt man. Great guy.
Second bf- sadly, cheated on my first with this one, he was my roomate. We went out for a couple years, though, it was fun.
Third, fourth, fifth, sixth? - I met them all at the bar I worked at here in Berkeley when I first moved here, though went out with 2 of them way after I stopped working there.
The fourth one that i met there was my favorite bf ever - he was playing bass in a band that was playing there, I didn't work there but had just driven back from Chico and stopped in. I went up to him after and said "good job" or something, not fawning at all, because I just thought they did a good job, I wasn't trying to meet him. So, he came up a few minutes later and said he was intrigued by my nonchalance or something. We traded witty banter for a few minutes, and he said he must go out with me. So, I gave him my number, because he was magical and his eyes were mesmerising and he was funny and cute.
Our first date was - my best friend rented a big nice house for her engagement party up in...fort bragg or something? On the beach. He drove up after I had been there a day. He was charming, he charmed everyone else, and when my friend's mom asked him what he was doing there, he said "I came to meet the most beautiful girl I've ever seen" :D But it actually sounded sincere.
It appears I'm all about convenience, convenience, convenience. A couple of those people wanted to marry me, but I didn't wanna.
It's harder to meet people up here, though, in Chico it's simple. :(
There've been others, but I would hardly call them boyfriends.

I am happily wedded to my little van - we're at it for 12 hours solid every weekday, and on weekends we leave each other the hell alone. I met her on eBay - £2000 and she was all mine
Vans are more reliable than girls, and less likely to cheat on you, although it is not unknown. Reproduction is an issue though - we haven't figured that one out yet.
Seriously though, I don't get time to go out much and I don't know anyone around here, so meeting my significant other is a long way off, if she exists at all. Maybe I'll bump into her next time around ;)

January 2004 - Match.com
I was self-employed as a family law attorney, so I didn't exactly come across many emotionally available men . . . and my profession isn't exactly a great opening line . . . "Hi, I am a divorce attorney . . ."
So, I am still with the Match.com person, but not without drama. Over time, he was diagnosed with acute alcoholism and bipolar disorder. And I just happened to be there to witness it all . . . UGLY, UGLY, UGLY stuff. Nothing much compares to having to file a legal petition to get your boyfriend involuntarily commited to a psych hospital due to suicidal tendencies and delusions.
Thankfully, he went to rehab, got on the right medication and got back to living life. He is now an inspiration in his recovery. :) He has embraced his sober life and is so much happier now that he has his brain chemicals balanced out. He suffered greatly (as did I), but is on the otherside of his darkness.

Leo men are often insufferable, we inevitably dislike each other. I mean, of course, the ones I've met.
Leo chicks are cool and fun and often sporty, which kicks.

Heather -
I remember when you were going through this and how horrified I was reading it. But, I truly think you were perhaps fated to meet given that you knew had to use your profession to help him. I am SO happy that is behind you both!!!!!!!
YES! Thank you . . .
I think that all things happen for a reason. I have never been so drained physically and emotionally in all my life. The closest of his family live about 9 hours away (his brother), so I was really the only one to monitor the disaster as it unfolded. They have repeatedly told me that he probably would have killed himself without medical intervention. Well, I don't know about that, but it certainly could have gotten to that point easily, which was VERY scary. :(
I have learned alot about myself through all of this, and really educated myself about addictions and mental illness. The only way to deal with the uncertainty and fear involved in these two issues is through education, especially with respect to bipolar illness, which is an biological based chemical inbalance that you are born with. I did not escape unscathed; I also had to take care of myself, which involved moving out, establishing strong boundaries and going for some counseling for anxiety (shouldn't be hard to figure out why!!).
What doesn't kill you WILL make you stronger!

I met Derek at the gay bar here in Minneapolis. He just looked at me as I walked by him on night, and that was it. LoL, even someone like me can get lucky once in awhile. We've been together for almost 2 years now.:)

That's really cute! :woohoo:Thank you. I was really surprised because I'm a pretty heavy guy, and most, NOT ALL, gay men are pretty obsessive about being thin. It's also funnybecause when I'm at the bar, unlike most of the guys there, I'm not on a nonstop mission to get some ass.

Was dating a hot Jordanian guy. Really, looking back...HOT...way out of my league. Just "bizzy" partners. He took me to meet some of his "cousins." There amongst the "cousin gang" was my future husband. I absolutely could NOT stand him, and told him as much. The rest is slightly embarrassing, and not for PG audiences.
I've been married 13 years, w/ him 14 as of 7/4/06. The guy is honestly a patron saint, cause only he and the creator of the Universe could POSSIBLY put up w. my BS. That said he is a constant thorn in my side, but I love him :p

What did Lindsey say to you? I have always had my doubts about him to be honest. Unless people might have assumed him to be that way and he got ticked off about it because he is not but he sometimes seems it.

No, I really don't think he is. You know that face he made in Pattie's old signature with her quote about the solo album? Yeah, that's the face I think I remember him making one night. LOL
You mean this one?

It wasn't what he said, more his actions. He's always tetchy during The Chain (except the 10th December 2003 so I hear, am I right Christy?). And he always looks out into the crowd and not down at the front for this song. But Seteca and I were about two feet from him for the whole show and leaning on the stage and I don't think he was sure why we were there, I mean right at the front...  Usually he likes screaming girls right? He made a huge effort of trying not to make eye contact with us for most of the show. Maybe "Don't Look Down" was written about a bad experience he had with a guy winking at him on stage... lol. He did look down however, mainly at the blonde with large breasts and a small brain stood nearby. He avoided us though.
It was only later in the gig during Come and I'm So Afraid especially he must have figured out we were guitarists, or guitar fanatics. His thoughts were cemented during Go Your Own Way when we attacked his Turner during the "interactive" solo. lol. I remember him giving Christy a grin during his break in World Turning and I gave him a nod of approval when he was sat behind the PA and he was cool during the rest of the song.
The following gig we were in exactly the same place (albeit a different venue) and he realised it was us again and he was cool from Dreams onwards, grinning down and enjoying the show. I'm not sure he was too happy after we made him miss the start of the second chorus of "Come". lol. but he was chilled out.
You know, it was great watching LB from such a close distance work that guitar but for me the moment was when I thought John was watching me as I tapped his bass parts on LBs monitor speaker. I gave him a nod and he nodded back from under that cap.. What a dude..
I don't think LB s homophobic but do think he is sometimes uncomfortable with guys cheering him on.

I don't think that he is homophobic either. He has approached and initiated a conversation with an openly gay male so I doubt that he is homophobic.

^ Really? I'd guess they were fun too. The boys - not so much.
More importantly - did you meet Eddie? :p
When I was 16 I walked into a house party with my boyfriend at the time & saw the man who was to become my husband (Mark) sitting at the dinette table playing drinking games. Yeah, I knew he was classy right from the start. We were all headbanger kids, so picture lots of feathered hair, tight jeans, cigarettes & Metallica. I asked BF who the guy at the table was, he told me & said "why, do you like him?" I said "NO!" But sometimes, no means yes.
Hung out with the same crowd over the nextyear or two, saw each other at parties, I loved when he was there because he always made me laugh. Oh, and he was hot. :D He went into the Navy & I stayed with BF.
Fast forward 2 years. I break up with BF after he asked me to marry him - (dude, I was 19, he was 25 - how the hell did he think I was ready to get married?) It's a long, dragged out process with threats of self-harm & such. A few months later, Mark gets out of the Navy & I am trying to hook him up with one of my friends. She doesn't show up to the party. Mark & I start hanging out more & more & one day, he kissed me.
That was it. We definitely weren't looking for anything long term, it just happened & we never looked back. Together 12 years next week, married almost 2. I feel stupid saying it was meant to be, but I guess it kind of was.

I can't believe you met someone worth marrying in that environment. Most of the guys I hung out with just were not. Except for Charlie but he's not for me.
