View Full Version : What are your summer plans?

OK what have you done so far this summer? What do plan on doing? It does not have to be a trip around the world either. It can be as simple as I went to the park today. I was thinking that we might be able to help each other find interesting places to go to or just things to do. For instance if anyone lives in the Southern New England area there is a hot air balloon show this weekend down at the URI campus. I am hoping that the weather is nice. I want to go and take some photos.
If you know of an interesting place in your area then post about it. It can be something that your area has to offer just about all of the time, too. I went to Boston last Saturday and I took a sunset tour/cruise around the harbor. It was beautiful. That same company also has lighthouse cruises. I want to do one before the end of the year.

Work is realllllly slow right now, so I'm running a little tight financially. I plan on spending alot of time at home, gardening and the like. At least I've got a pool, so I can keep cool.

That is great that you have a pool. You don't need to even go anywhere. I'm jealous. :p j/k

When I grew up, I always thought that having a pool was the American Dream!
They ARE a moderate amount of work to maintain, though. Still, I have no regrets about putting it in. By about Mid-August, I'm usually completely bored with it though!

The only thing I have planned for the Summer is working, dealing with the sweltering heat and rolling blackouts, and looking forward to Fall.
In early September, I'm flying back out to Tennessee to meet up with a couple of friends and catch another Walter Egan show. Then later that month I plan to see Tom Petty in concert. Also the Renaissance Faire will be starting again in either August or September and then Halloween is just around the corner from that and I can't wait!

Memorial day weekend Chico, then guy I'm seeing came up here, then I did my birthday swimming trip with guy I'm seeing, the beginning of August weekend I'll be doing a long weekend camping/swimming trip with guy I'm seeing, then he's staying in SF the next weekend for some other purpose, so we'll do that, then my school starts (so does his teaching job) and then if we still like each other for Labor Day weekend, we'll go swim/camping again. Then Tom Petty Sept. 29&30, with, I hope, many lovely friends in attendance.
In the middle, I'm looking for jobs, and staying at home trying not to spend money so that I will have a little for the trips, which means reading a lot.
I'm bored out of my skull, in a way. I can't exercise right now except yoga and weights and bike errands, because I'm trying to make my legs better. If I could, I would actually have something to do for a couple hours after work until good TV starts. So, I miss my forested hikey hill. I also miss losing weight faster due to grueling forested hiking hill. Also, it's been sunny here the whole time, we usually have many more foggy days. So that makes it worse that I can't go hiking.
Oh, and my friend that lives in my building is preg again, due 8/31, so she can't go out or anything.
I wish Homer's pool lived by me...:p

Well, I've been trying to save as much money as I can for college by going back to work more than normal. And as for fun stuff, I've pretty much been coming home at at least midnight every weekday and been going to my sister's softball tournaments every weekend. We go to Nationals in 2 weeks, and that should be a blast. That's our summer vacation now because travel softball costs so much.

I'm moving to the beach on Aug 1. I know, I'm jealous of me too. I haven't done much so far except 2 weekends at my Mom's place on the lake. I hope to get up there more. I'm going camping soon for the weekend which I am looking forward to. I'm spending a weekend on the Cape as well and that's gonna be great so long as mother nature cooperates.

Drunken camping weekend starts tomorrow!
Other than that, another camping weekend (tent camping with our nieces) in Aug, going to the Fair... that's about it as far as planned outtings.
I discovered a couple of local websites giving info on tours here, as well as "things to do" and historical info, so I'd like to check some things out. I've lived here all my life & don't know much about the city.

Where are you moving? By yourself? Do you mean for good? Is your beach colder and foggier than inland, just like ours? Are you packing? Is it a house? Are you coming to Berkeley in Sept.? Is it okay that I'm not jealous of you? Unless your beach is hot and the water is warm?

I'm moving south of Boston with my roommate to a house. No it isn't foggy. I am starting packing tomorrow, I swear. I wish I could come to Berkely but I don't think I can make it. However, I really want to at some point because I love No Cal. Beach is hot, not sure about water being warm, not so much here usually. I think the inside of the "arm" on the Cape has the only warm beaches in this area.

Its been in the hundreds for awhile now. Drinking water is my summer plan. LOL
I don't have plans anytime soon. I am going back up to Philly at the end of September, then a few days later, I'm going to Albuquerque and Colorado.
I guess my plan is to get started on this new job. Downloaded the software today and should be working on a project either this afternoon or late this evening. :)

So jealous of the camping. My annual camping trip may have to be scuttled. Too many schedules that don't line up. I may try and sneak up to Oregon for a 4 day weekend in late august.
But, this has been a nutty summer and spring. I have rarely run around like this. Doing the homo rodeo in LA the first wknd in August. Hopefully my rodeo pal from Oklahoma will be able to fly out. Going to Texas
the 2nd weekend for a crazy BBQ. Last weekend had a debauched and drunken wrap party in Santa Monica.
Getting tix to TP at the bowl, and hopefully Heart at the LA County Fair for Sept.
Other than that, I have been chillin by the pool most every day after work. And on the weekends. Have a buddy or two over from time to time to hang and swim. It's been a great summer. Hotter than hell this year. And humid.

Sparky, where in Texas are you gonna be???
I'm enjoying seeing some other bands this summer besides FM or Stevie, for a change. Although I did go to the St. Louis Petty show to see Stevie sing w/ Tom...
I saw James Brown in May, Steely Dan last weekend (GREAT show!), I've got my 3-day pass for ACL. I just bought the VIP Loa Lounge pass for the Voodoo Music Festival in October, in New Orleans (RHCP and Duran Duran!), so I'm exicted about that.
No Mac or Stevie tour this summer has also enabled me to put a little more TLC into my vehicle. I just got new struts and shocks, and basically the entire suspension re-done. My car feels like new again and handles great!

Wow, that must be LA prices! I had my house re-roofed (about 20 square) for about 4K, year before last(the good "dimensional" shingles, too). And 4000 sq ft of driveway paved(for the first time) for $4400. 'Course, I'm a bargain hunter!

Me, too. My Blazer's tired. The little things just keep going wrong with it now. Fortunately, no one wants them now(gas), so I'm tracking them locally, until I find one for a steal!:] If I didn't have to pull a cargo trailer every weekend, I'd get rid of it, and buy a Honda!

May be LA prices, but my roof is 2 level tar and gravel. Completely flat, and I need gutters. My driveway is about 400 feet long, winding, and up a steep hill. I would like to bargain hunt, but it is a miracle that a workman even shows up to do a bid here, let alone follows up and is willing to work. Unreal.

We have one here in Rhode Island this weekend and I can't wait to go. It starts at 4PM tomorrow and continues through the weekend. The only thing that bothers me a bit is that this weekend might not be the best weather wise. I hope that we get at least a few hours this weekend of good weather so that I can enjoy the festival. I start graduate school in almost exactly one month ( ), so I am trying to work as much as I possibly can now and read as many books of choice (fiction!) while I have the chance.
I was supposed to go to my 20th (!) HS reunion on Long Island with three of my girlfriends TOMORROW, but my husband had a complication with some surgery he had last week and I can't leave him. So, I'm a bit depressed about missing my trip and of course worried about my hub. I'm getting quite a bit of money from my loans (I know, I know) and I plan on taking a teeny bit of it and planning a beach trip with my husband for a week-end, sometime in late August/early September before my classes get too demanding.

I have seen the SUV hybrids and they aren't totally hateful. There is still something about them that says suburban housewife or nerdy movie producer, though. Chevy makes something they call a hybrid truck, but the only non gas things about it are the ignition and idling system, which save a grand total of about 4 mpg. Lame. Toyota is the only hope.

You would rather hang glide than balloon? I don't think I would hang glide but never say never. I used to say I'd never sky dive but I think I might! Although, I'll be the one SCREAMING.

Oh, totally. I don't have fantasies of floating, I have fantasies of flying. It would be like being a bird. And y'all know of my bird fixation.

My boss hang glides, you have to learn, and buy all this equipment, but he says it's amazing.
I would do all those. Probably would be most scared of hang gliding, and least scared of the balloon.

All my fantasies involve my feet being planted on the ground.
Heights scare the **** out of me! I *will* fly, but ONLY when absolutely necessary, then I'm a nervous wreck.

Well, I'm pretty much taking this summer off for few reasons. After seeing 48 shows the last 3 years between Stevie and Fleetwood Mac, I need a break. Plus gas is way to high! I'm thinking maybe of going to Kansas City next month to se the Twins play the Royals, but that's about it for 2006 for me.

That really would be a thrill now that I imagine it with fear cast aside. My friend has one of those parachute airplane thingies and he loves it. An ultralight they call it. It would be so cool to go up in one of those and take photographs.

Hope the weather is good for you this weekend, Pattie!
:( :(
Ok I went down to URI last evening for what I thought was going to be a balloon festival. I expected to see a bunch of balloons as I entered the URI campus. First of all I got lost down there and then I finally found the place where this so called festival was to be held. I walked around, bought a few things and ate. Still, I was looking for balloons.
I see what looks like the area where the balloons should be rising. I ask someone one who worked there and he tells me “Well, in this weather it seems unlikely that we will even get one inflated tonight”. OK so I go back to the car and sit for a while and I think to myself that maybe they will inflate one but then I think that if they do, it will be what I call the ugly one.
So I waited and when back in and I see a balloon that they are trying to inflate. Yep, it was the ugly one ( The Remax balloon) but it was still exciting to see it. They were giving tethered rides and let people on the field. I went on the field for a few photos. So I ask if they will be inflating any more. Once again I got “Well, it depends on the wind. Windy means bad.” So it seems as if there will be no balloons inflated this year. We have a forecast for showers all weekend. I’m so bummed. I want to know who’s bright idea it was to have this festival in Rhode Island?
Here are a few photos.

OK, I went again today. The weather wasn't really any better but I had nothing else to do anyway.
They had 2 balloons with the chutes half open so I took a few photos anyway.

OMG. That is like the limp dick parade !
It is hot as hell and humid in Los Angeles. I had friends over, bought a bunch of new pool toys and played silly games like going down the slide into the pool and trying to catch beach balls. Good times. And plenty of tequila !

Where was the fluffer?
I went to a hot air balloon display once - they were doing the tethered ride thing as well. It was cool to learn all about 'em and stuff, but 30 feet off the ground was quite high enough for me.
