Has anyone ever used one of those paint on highlight kits? I'm considering trying one but wanted to see if by chance anyone had any tips, advice, or if it's just a bad idea.

I've used the L'Oreal Colour Expert one - but I had a hairdresser friend do it for me. It's too hard to highlight the back of your head! If you've ever dyed your hair before, I would suggest rinsing out the highlights 5 minutes before it says to on the instructions, or you'll end up much blonder than you want.

You are talking about hair right? I've never tried one, highlights are just too tricky. I leave highlighting to the professionals who can see the back of my head without obstruction . I used to pay upwards of $90 dollars for friggin' highlights but I got sick of it and dyed my blonde hair an all over dark brown with a reddish tint (not auburn). It's my new mysterious dark look  There's nothing like some good highlights though, I actually prefer them, they add dimension that an all over color just can't. What kind of highlights are you thinking about getting?

The dye works well but like Livia said- it's too difficult to do on your own, you need to have someone help you.

The highlights cost twice as much here which is why i am considering doing them myself. I was thinking of skipping the back but it might be too contrasty that way. I don't have the money right now to highlight my hair but I want to. Dammit!

Come down to Buffalo. I found a girl who just bought her own place. I get a haircut for $12. She'll do highlights for between $40 & $60.

You know, even with all I would spend in gas that would still be cheaper!

are you planning blonde highlights or varying shades of brown?

^ You guys can stay with me. We'll have a Mac party & then all go get our hair done together. :D:

Seriously, she's great. I swear she's done cutting my hair in 10 minutes, and she's the best hair person I've ever had.

 yes please! Really, this sounds like a lot of fun is that utterly girly of me? :o

That's awesome. Do you think it's because she just opened up? You know, trying to get a clientele roster going? Seriously, I have never heard of such low prices for quality work!

Not sure. She worked for the woman who owned the place previously for a couple of years (I think she's 25 or so) then bought the business when the woman moved out of state. I think she wants to keep the prices as low as she can, and she's pretty busy but not so bad that you can't get in. I've referred a few people there & they've all been very happy.

Her name's Karen, let me know if you want her number.

Definitely blonde.
if you're going with blonde, I'd suggest the Super Blonde (not sure who makes it) it's the only thing store bought that's worked for me...everything else will end up orange. I'd say stick to professionals because going blonde is really hard. otherwise, get a friend who can weave and foil it.

I'd come over and help, but there's a just a few miles between us...:)

I think you look better with darker hair, as your eyes are brown. Therefore, my advice is "don't get highlights, save your damn money".

Aw, thanks. You're right, I need to go to the pros. I am moving to burbs in a couple of weeks and the prices are a bit better down there. Perhaps I will treat myself after the move.

Really? I really think it looks better with highlights. It just seems so boring right now. My eyes are light brown, almost hazel.
