I'm transferring a fellow Ledgie's VHS stuff to DVD & I've been going through everything first, making sure there aren't any problems, figuring out how long the tapes are, etc.

I came across some video footage shot from the audience from A Day on the Green in Oakland 5-7-77. But it's video only, no audio. Instead, Rhiannon & Oh Well from the Live album play in the background. It's pretty apparent from Stevie's motions and Lindsey's guitar playing that one tune they do is Rhiannon, not sure about the other - GDW perhaps? There's also a very brief clip of Chris playing maracas (sp) up from with Stevie & Lindsey, so would that be World Turning?

Stevie twirls like a crazy woman, Lindsey's playing like a man possessed. Unfortunately, not much footage of John or even Chris. Mick is there with his obligatory bongo (or whatever the f*ck that drum is) solo. The person who shot it (was that you David? teehee) was about 10 rows back on Lindsey's side. The entire clip is probably 10 minutes tops.

First of all, holy ****! I have never seen any of this! I don't care that it's shaky, and not great quality, I think it's awesome. Now, my questions are: Am I the only loser who had never seen this before? Does this entire show exist on vid? Is there any portion floating around with audio too? Or just these brief silent clips?

Well, my parents' video camera had audio in 75. I guess my dad should have been there holding the mike & the floodlights. :p

Is the whole show in circulation, or just these quick clips? Is there an audio recording from Day on the Green on tape or anything?

I've never seen the footage either- is it frustrating to watch with no audio?

David, didn't you post some of this footage with "Fireflies" playing in the backround? I downloaded that - think I have it.

Yeah, the only stuff I had was about five minutes from the 1976 Day on the Green & about ten minutes from the 1977 Day on the Green. I think they came from Judy or Mike or someone.

Yes. But it's a really cool insight into the band at that time and how much fun they seemed to have performing live.

That's it! I forgot, Fireflies played in the background too, I think during the '76 footage.

I didn't realize that Mac played at two "Day on the Green" shows. First the vid said 1976, then 5-7-77, but it looked so similar I was confused. Then when I checked tour dates I couldn't find a Day on the Green for '76. OK, anyway, that's it, that's what I saw. I was wondering why Stevie is wearing just the leotard, sleeves & skirt during one part & then a long coat of cloak or something in another. Loved LB's orange pants. :p

Kind of, but it's so cool to see them so damned excited and energetic.

If anyone downloaded this previously & has it on their hard drive, could they post it somewhere for everyone? Youtube maybe? I would, but I've no clue how to get something from a VHS tape onto my computer. I don't know how the hell I missed David sharing this.

I looked for it earlier but I can't seem to find it. :sorry:

I didn't realize that Mac played at two "Day on the Green" shows. First the vid said 1976, then 5-7-77, but it looked so similar I was confused. The Mac actually played three "Day on the Green" concerts up in Oakland:

1. August 2 & 3, 1975 (with Dave Mason, Peter Frampton, Robin Trower & Gary Wright)
2. April 25 & May 1, 1976 ("The British Are Coming" with UFO, Gary Wright, Status Quo & Peter Frampton)
3. May 7, 1977 (with Pink Floyd, Doobie Brothers, Gary Wright & Steve Gibbons)

The crowd film footage is from April 25, 1976, & May 7, 1977--over a year apart. Some of the live shots on the "Rumours" album insert are from the 1976 appearance, & some of the live shots on the big color poster as well as from the "Rumours 'n' Fax" book are from the 1977 appearance.

Then when I checked tour dates I couldn't find a Day on the Green for '76. :shrug:You should check the tour dates Bri & I keep.

If anyone downloaded this previously & has it on their hard drive, could they post it somewhere for everyone? Youtube maybe?I hope it's okay to do this. Nobody told me otherwise ...?

Very cool to be able to piece it all together. Thanks for reposting that, David. I didn't want to talk about how cool it was & not be able to have others see it.

I was watching the Disney Going Home special today (which I think is one of the best TV specials on the history of the band, esp for beginning fans) and I realized that much of the live footage from 75 or 76 appears to be from A Day on the Green. Of course, still no audio, but shot from the side of the stage.

Is the outdoor live Over My Head & ISA on Rosebud from A Day on the Green? Which year?

I saw one fan who said the band was at a parade or something really weird. But these shots are from the Day on the Green in May 1977. It had this funky stage design & the dancers with garlands were all part of the shtick.
Is the outdoor live Over My Head & ISA on Rosebud from A Day on the Green? Which year?According to Rolling Stone Random Notes in March 1978 issue, it's Santa Barbara (http://burnish.net/articles/rs261.php). Also, chilid told us several years ago that the band's outdoor show at the campus stadium at U.C. Santa Barbara is what was filmed for the Rosebud footage. I really think Rosebud is what the band played for the American & Russian officials when plans were being made for the band to play in Russia in the summer 1978.

I forgot to post the dang file & nobody said anything. I don't think more than a person or two is reading the thread!

Anyway, here's the movie clip of 5.07.77:

Thanks for posting these, David! And I DID notice the 2nd link was missing! I was actually quite distraught while I read through the other posts. I have clip 1 already (Ebony Eyes, right?) and I just tried to watch clip 2 but I couldn't get through it all .... it's shaky and so far away!! I'll have to set aside some time later...
