Tuesday nite DVR dilemma - I just figured out what I have to do. Watch BB and Rock Star from 7-9 on CBS - while recording Last Comic Standing - record Janice on Oxygen at 9 while watching Project Runway - record the re-broadcast of Kathy Griffin on Bravo at 11. And set the DVR to record everything I'd be watching, in case I'm not home.

I have the same situation. Why is it that I watch only 6 shows all summer & they're all on the same 2 nights?

Project Runway is a reality show on the Bravo network in the US. It's a competition for fashion desigeners, the host is Heidi Klum & the judges are Michael Korrs (designer) & Nina Garcia (fashion editor for Elle mag.)

Every week the designers get a different challenge (swimwear, wedding gowns, lingerie, OR stuff like "the entire garment has to be made out of items you find in this grocery store" & odd things like that) and they have a day or two to design & make their garment. Their model then shows it off on their runway & they are judged, with the lowest scored designer going home.

Winner gets $$$ to start their own line, a fashion spead in Elle, a new car. Winning model gets a modeling contract & fashion shoot.

This is one of the best reality shows I've ever seen. I don't know how to explain it, I don't know if it's the way they shoot it, or what. But it's one of the biggest hit shows on cable right now. I love it. Here's a link to the website - you can go on every week to see pics of each design:

I did like Chloe but she seemed so "meh" about the whole thing. She never really interested me until the last few episodes. I was rooting for Nick the whole time, even when he lost interest and moped around.

Until I see the premiere, my money is on the hometown girl from Minneapolis. God forbid she becomes the Santino of season three. :)

I can hardly wait to see what kind of garbage the pageant/country music designer puts out. His inspiration is Bob Mackie.

So what do you all think of season three? Predictions?

What did you think of the hat?

I thought the guy with the "basket hat" had lost his mind! What was he thinking? It was way too silly and cartoonish. It looked like something I've seen on I Love Lucy. I thought for sure he would be eliminated. He is way too out-there.

My favorite person is the guy with the (fake?) British accent. He was hysterical and over-the-top! I loved his comments.

My other favorite was the red-head mom. She seemed cool.

And, I really liked the menswear guy who made that really stunning green dress. I am so glad that he stuck to his original idea and didn't mess it up with silly accessories. And I loved his explaination about Gone With The Wind. I remember that scene- Scarlett's dress was green too. And, he was right, you really couldn't tell that Scarlett's dress was made from household materials and you could say the same for his dress. Why should he dumb it down so that it looked like garbage? Just so that it was more artsy? I'll take beautiful clothing over artsy clothing any day of the week!

I felt really bad that they trashed their apartments like that. I think the producers should have cleaned everything up so that they would at least have a decent place to sleep!

JazmenFlowers
07-13-2006, 08:26 AM
it was a pretty good show. right now I like Laura, Allison and Keith. Vincent with that stupid hat? wtf?

mikeschmike
07-13-2006, 08:57 AM
That was pretty bad of the producers to make them sleep in their trashed apartments. I thought they would have moved them to a new floor. Who knows, maybe the apartments will be remodeled by next week.

Plus, I thought the whole "we're going to have to ask you to leave" scandal would be on the first episode. What a tease!

skcin
07-13-2006, 10:47 AM
^ I know! I thought it would be Keith (the guy who won the challenge - they really gave him a hard time at the audition because he alone hadn't designed the clothes in his portfolio.) I was sure that's what the whole "we'll have to ask you to leave" was about. Dammit. Time will tell, I guess.

For those of you that didn't/don't watch, here's a link to the designs so you can be the judge. Scroll down & click on each model to see them in more detail.
http://www.bravotv.com/Project_Runway/rate/
You can also get the eps on iTunes, I thought I heard.

I didn't hate the winning dress, but I was waiting for the judges (esp. Kors) to say "big deal, you grabbed a bedsheet & made a dress out of it." I thought that they would tell Keith it was way too simple. The buttons on the back were a cute touch & the model was hot with that hair. But I think Laura or Robert should have won.

Angela (White revealing top, leather skirt): Not my taste, but I knew they'd like it. It was pretty cool, kind of funky.

Allison (pink short dress): Cute and a little punk at the same time. The model reminded me so much of Shirley Manson with that hair. Liked it.

Bonnie (reddish orange dress): I HATED how it fit on top, I can't believe they didn't say anything to her. I know the neckline/bust she was going for, but I think she failed. Seriously, the boobs were barely covered/supported. That being said, it was interesting & I'm glad she'll stay for a while.

Brandon (wool-like cape & quilted dress): I really liked the cape. The dress was so-so. I thought they'd say that it still looked to much like a comforter.

Jeffrey (layer upon layer upon layer jacket & dress): Too much, fabric, you could barely see the girl. I agree, slightly better without the jacket. I knew he wouldn't go, they want to see what he'll do next.

Katharine (blue plastic-looking dress, quilted long parka): Cute. Nothing special. Liked the parka better than the dress.

Kayne (dress with orangey top, beige bottom): Pleasant surprise. The back was fabulous, I wish they'd show a 360 view of the designs on the website. Because without seeing the back, the dress looks average.

Laura (violet coat with fur trim): Ab. Fab. I love this woman, love her attitude, lover her clothes. She's very metropolitan NY, classy & glamorous without seeming like a bitch. That coat was hot.

Malan (tweedy-looking big blouse, beige longish skirt): Funny Chris likes him best, I can't stand this guy. He reminds me of a smarmy guy on a cartoon or in a movie, I can't put my finger on it. He's not as good as he thinks he is, but I did like the design. The top seemed a bit sloppy to me.

Michael (white dress): I had no clue those were coffee filters until he said it. I thought it was very pretty, very feminine,

Robert (white dress with red & metallic details): Fan****ingtastic, I say. Loved it. Another design where the back of the dress was the highlight, but I also liked the front on this one, unlike Kayne's. Gorgeous.

Stacey (white sheer dress): she deserved to go. The idea of the dress wasn't bad, but to come on this show & not know how to use a sewing machine? Get the hell out. It didn't fit well, looked unfinished.

Ulrike (long grey {lavender?} dress with lime green detail): It was OK. She's lucky her model was black, because those colors would have made a pasty white girl look like death. She'd better do something different besides those long flowing dresses or she won't be there long.

Vincent (the hat): I actually disliked the dress more than the hat, lol! Not a very promising first design. And to back down & say "I was second guessing the hat, to be honest..." Huh? No, you weren't dude. Be honest & stand up for your vision, no matter how stupid it is. :p

The winning dress was my favorite!

Malan is just...creepy. And that dress was horrid.

Angela. Beeyotch for attempting to ride Kayne's coattails. I'm not sure how that was edited, but in her defense, it did seem that Vincent was being a control freak and not letting her do anything.

Kayne and Robert- I knew Kayne was going to win this one, being the pageant gown fairy that he is. His dress was very well put together, and he knew that the southern girl would always go for the rhinestones. It wasn't my favorite, but I've never been one to admire gaudy.

Vincent and Angela-Vincent gets on my nerves, and pairing him up with the equally irritating Angela was a bad move. I see both of them being **** starters as the show moves on. The dress was alright, but it seemed more "cocktail party" then "pageant". It should have been one of these two that got the axe. Plus, Vera Wang referred to something they did as "terrible". They might as well start packing now with that kind of criticism.

Bonnie and Uli- They were alright, although the bottom of their dress reminded me of a Blanche Devereaux night gown. They at least worked well together though. Can't say that for everybody!

Laura and Michael- I think they went a little over the top. I remember Miss USA saying something about not wanting a white dress, and that's exactly what they made for her. It was very pretty, but not what she wanted and the design of it was fairly common. Michael...on the down low or not? What do you think?

Katherine and Malan...oh goodness. All I could think of was Carol Burnett's spoof of Gone with the Wind, with the curtain rod dress. Granted their gown didn't have a curtain rod, but it looked like it was made of heavy curtains, and the top was way too much. What was with that hacked hem job around the bottom? I'm no fashion designer, but I wouldn't send a dress out on the runway with threads dangling down to the floor. I will say that he didn't deserve to get kicked off last night, even though he is quite the creep show.

Jeffery and Alison- They did alright, even though I didn't really like how the dress fit their model. The top was loose where it shouldn't be, and the color choices did nothing for a woman's body and they were kind of blah to me. I have high hopes for Alison though. She seems to know what she's doing. I have a feeling she'll be top three.

Keith and Bradley- This was my personal favorite. To me, it's all about the movement. A dress can look great but if it looks bad in motion, the whole idea is lost to me. The color looked great on their model, and she definitely knew how to work it on the runway. Good job boys.
*Disclaimer*This of course has nothing to do with my developing crush on Keith.

Okay, so a little off topic, but did any of you see the commercials last night with Heidi laughing maniacally into the camera? It was a little scary to say the least.

Oh, and what the hell was Vera Wang wearing? She's lucky she was sitting in for Michael Kors because had he been there when she showed up with that mess on...oh I can just hear ithe catty bitch now.

^ Mikeschmike? I love you. You are quickly becoming my new soulmate (yes, I have a few....most of them gay men, interestingly enough....) Thank you for posting a long, detailed review. Now where's Jaz.....

First of all, I was really excited when they announced this challenge. Pretty damn cool, way cooler that the Nikki Hilton (barf) one last season.

Jeffrey & Allison: I actually liked it, thought it was kind of cool, but for Miss Universe? Is he nuts? I know he's trying to be cool rocker guy, but really. I guess he doesn't want to win any challenges.

Kayne & Robert: Has there ever been a gayer team? Wow. The dress? It was OK. Def. pageant material. I'm with Mike, not so much into rhinestones but I knew the girl would be. The color really was fantastic, earthy without being boring. It will work really well with her skin tone. Not really sure if it will make her look taller, it kind of cuts her in half, doesn't it?

Keith & Bradley: Loved the color, loved the flow of the dress at the bottom, HATED the top. Looked like it was barely hainging on, and if Miss USA is busty, I'm thinking that woudn't work out real well. Good, solid design though.

Laura & Michael: I love this bitch. Classy, classy classy. Michael? Hot and seemingly very nice. DL? Perhaps. ;) Not sure, will need to investigate further. The dress was gorgeous, sophisticated, classic. BUT - white for Miss Universe? On stage with all those lights? Dunno. The sparkles were well placed & not overdone, but it's hard to wear white if you're a little tiny white girl, IMO. She may have ended up looking washed out & pasty.

Malan & Katharine: I don't like the guy. But I was actually sad to see him go. The color of the dress was outstanding, but I agree - too much crap, too much bulk. No excuse for that hem not being done. And he pretty much sealed his fate when he said he deserved to go. Not that he realy could have blamed Katharine, but he dug his own grave there. Poor guy. Made me feel bad about his mom being mean & him having no friends. :(

Uli & Bonnie: I like both of the girls. The dress was pretty, very similar to Keith's, I thought. Liked this neckline better, more support & more flattering. However, once again - this is Uli's specialty. Long flowy dress. Yes, it was an evening gown, but still very obviously hers. I'm interested to see if she can do something different.

Vincent & Angela: Sorry, I'm on Angela's side. Like Livia said, who knows how it was edited to appear, but she asked Vincent several times what she should do, how she could help, and he told her to get away, leave him alone, not to touch anything. I do not like Vincent. At all. The dress was too plain, the color was atrocious (talk about looking gross on stage under the lights) and those sleeves were a joke. Can't believe they said nothing about the color - did he even think about his client? ugh.

so last night's show was dressing the hottest accessory right now...dogs. I thought it was a cute concept, but I got bored soon thereafter. I didn't really start really watching (meaning I wasn't flipping) until about halfway through.

Jeffrey: awesome dress for the model. looks like something I've seen before and I love the billowing effect it had.

Allison: I liked this one a lot. I love the jacket with the cute little puffs, which I normally don't like. the model and the dog looked like they actually belonged together.

Michael: the only thing I liked about this was the criss-crossing near the neckline that he did...that was really cute, but the color was putrid.

Kayne: LOVED this one. very Pucci. the dog's outfit was stellar hot too! the only thing that kept this from being my favorite is the shoes the model wore...I hate them. the outfit would have been much cuter if she had some wedges with a ballerina strap.

Robert: really cute outfit for the model, but the dog's outfit lacked to me. it just didn't seem like he spent a lot of time thinking about the dog, but the model's skirt and that shirt with the ties was hot.

Keith: didn't like the pattern, but the dress was really cute and worked with the dog, but if I had been a judge I'd have been mucho pissed he didn't do anything for the dog - yeah, it's lame, but this is the contest you signed up for so do it.

Bradley: what saved this whole thing for me was the cute little bow-tie he put on the dog. very cute. he model's outfit? eh, not so much. I mean, the judge's raved about it, but it looked ill-fitted to me and I hate that gold with the navy.

Laura: cute. and I liked how the furry stuff on the jacket kind of matched the dog, but at the same time it looked like she skinned one of the dogs to make the coat. it was aight.

Katharine: while I don't think her outfits were the worst, it was kind of simple, but I do see where she was going with it, the nasty hemline just caught the judges' attention and that was all she wrote.

Uli: probably my favorite. the fit of this dress was phenomenal and I love the print with the solid colored jacket - but I loved her shoes most of all (not that that really counts).

Bonnie: one word - BORING. gawd! hated it.

Vincent: puke. the model looked like Renee Zellwegger on crack.

Angela: lights are on, but ain't no bitches home. this woman is crazy. I swear. the metallic fabric with stupid ass thing thrown on here and there...looked like something from Howard the Duck - and then her story made no damn sense.

I have four day's worth of numbers to crunch within the next four hours (lousy blood sucking healthcare industry!). I would love to give you a full detailed review, but I'm about to be busier then a one legged man in an ass kicking contest. So I'll give you my highlights (and lowlights):

Vincent kind of turned me around with the cute little hat for his dog. He's still bat**** crazy, but not as visually offensive with his designs as before.

I wish Malan would have stayed because I think he would have swept this week's challenge. Uli as the winner? Eh...I didn't really agree. Niether did Allison (the girl was PISSED!) The "Hi Ladies" thing? Tacky.

Angela and her metallic 80's skirt was so irritating to look at. Jazzy, the Howard the Duck reference made me cackle like crazy. Poor Lea Thompson with that crimp job and all. She looked more ridiculous then the duck, but I digress.

What is up Keith's ass? Or more appropriately, what isn't? He should stop acting like king **** on turd mountain, because the judges can see right through that act. I also think he is the one that gets thrown off of the show next week. It's going to be him or Robert.

Michael is so middle of the road with everything he does. "Everything you do has been done, and you won't last forever." This also applies to Bonnie, that stoner Bradley, and Laura. They had better get some fresh ideas, or it's auf with you!

As for dear Katharine, I just have to say: Not every top needs a hood. We're not all snowboards and depression in MN, contrary to what she's portraying.

ITA with everything you've said here. I've been saying from the start that Keith will be booted, I still think it will have something to do with the fact that his original designs were not his alone. I wonder if he's still getting help from someone somehow. They're spending way too much time focussing on him, it's gotta be him to get booted. And I, for one, will laugh. And laugh, and laugh, and laugh. The guy's a dick.

Michael: ADORE the dress, esp the knotted collar, color was great but the fabric looked yucky to me. Dog matched perfectly. I like that there's finally a straight (?) hot black male on this show. Let's keep him around for a bit, shall we?

Kayne: His designs keep gettin' gayer & gayer. :D But they're also getting more & more fabulous. Loved it. Classy with some flash, but not tacky. That print was hot, especially with the white top. And the head scarf. Sex-ay. The dog was cute too.

Allison: Cool, cool, cool. Liked the story too. She really puts a lot of thought & detail into making the clothes. I'm not a big fan of all white, though.

Angela: Leave. Now. I said NOW! Tacky, trashy, sleazy, inappropriate to her story, gaudy, fugly. I don't care how well made it is (btw - I don't think it was all that well made) it was heinous. It's only up to $50 on the online auction right now, the others are way higher. She should have gone. I fear she may be this season's Pepper.

Bonnie: Forgettable - I had to look up her design because I had forgotten it AND her. Nice coat, now that I'm remembering.

Bradley: He is one lucky mo fo, ho. It wasn't terrible, but talk about cutting it close. And am I the only one who thought it was a pale imitation of Daniel V's flower-inspired design from last season?

Jeffrey: I was shocked, but I liked it. Didn't look as torn apart as usual. A bit short maybe.

Katharine: I thought it was cute. :( And I loved the dog's hoodie. I can't help but think she'd still be in if she had listed to Tim & made a shrug or something to go over it. But again, messy hemline is a no-no.

Keith: Very pretty dress, loved the print esp. but how could you not do part of the challenge? And then imply you made something that was a store-bought accessory? Oh no he DIDN'T just fib to Ms. Klum?!?! Bastard.

Laura: I love her, I love the clothes. It's nothing I would ever wear myself, but it looks so chic and stylish. Her dog's outfit was the best, IMO. My only worry is that she may be unable to break out of her NYC metropolitan classic woman mode. She'd better do something WOW soon.

Robert: How disappointing. A Barbie designer should have cleaned up on this challenge. The dog's name was Chanel & he used pink plaid tweed fabric. Yay. Nothing special.

Uli: My favorite this week. AGAIN - I think she'll be in big trouble if she is forced to do something that's not a long flowy dress. BUT this one was divine - I think it was mainly her use of 2 very different fabrics that got me. The jacket was a nice touch, and the strappy back was tre' cool. Loved the dog too, but then I love Pugs so I probably wouldn't have cared what she put on her. Her design's already up to over $300, btw.

Vincent: I couldn't help but feel bad for that dog, trying to get that dumb f*cking hat off of his little head. Vincent seems to put so much effort into the clothes, yet they seem dull & plain to me.

Michael: ADORE the dress, esp the knotted collar, color was great but the fabric looked yucky to me. Dog matched perfectly. I like that there's finally a straight (?) hot black male on this show. Let's keep him around for a bit, shall we?

I'm telling you...down low!

I fear she may be this season's Pepper.
hopefully she doesn't last as long as Wendy, bless her cold black heart.

Bradley: He is one lucky mo fo, ho. It wasn't terrible, but talk about cutting it close. And am I the only one who thought it was a pale imitation of Daniel V's flower-inspired design from last season?
Dude was hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh as a motha****a.

I loved Heidi scolding the dog, too. So German!

I'm still thinking Keith, they're focussing a lot on him it seems. And I still think it may have something to do with the fact that he had help with his original designs that he showed them. Maybe he's still getting help somehow.

Or, maybe someone's banging one of the producers or something. :p

Heidi was pretty harsh when she said "We felt that your outfit was a total bore." I laughed my ass off!

To tell you the truth Bonnie's outfit was my favorite. They all pretty much sucked though. I was not impressed! I don't think the judges were either!

Why does everyone hate Vincent? I love him! Actually, Malan was my favorite. Too bad he got the boot on the second episode.

First let me just say one thing. I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT! Buh-bye Keith. I can't believe how upset Allison was - he was basically cheating, sweetie, you should be pissed at him, not sorry for him. Idiot. Then for him to say that people were looking for a scapegoat? Dude, you broke the rules. And now? You are OUWT! :D I loved Laura - "Keith. What an assh*le."

Now onto more important matters. The clothes!

http://www.bravotv.com/Project_Runway/rate/

Keith, Allison & Jeff: Very cool, very trendy. I wasn't a fan of the tank top hanging down around the waist, but wasn't it supposed to convert into a dress? Did they ditch that idea, or just not show it? Odd. It did seem that Keith was delegating way too much - he seemed to have an idea of what he wanted, but not the skills to do it. Alliosn & Jeff should have won based on their talent & ability to hold it together despite the loss of their teamleader, but I think that the judges felt it wouldn't be fair to reward Keith's design if he may have had outside assistance with it.

Angela, Laura, Michael: That whacky girl had better thank her lucky stars that Laura & Michael were there to calm her design down & make it more accessible to the general public. In the end, I thought it was good, but I mainly liked the classic gray color & juxtaposition of the satin trim against the flat fabric. I'm not a big fan of short jackets, but it was cute. I saw a lot of Laura's skills in that outfit. Mike - did you notice that Michael oversaw the hair & makeup? Hmmmmmm.......;)

Bonnie, Bradley & Uli: I got what she was trying for, but I agree - instead of looking retro cool, it looked dated. Those pants looked like the polyester ones my mom used to wear - yuck. The jacket was cool & flowy, but that's about it. Poor Bonnie. Her designs just weren't very exciting.

Robert, Kayne & Vincent: I can't believe how fug this was. That jacket looked like a parka you'd wear to a football game, the top looked like something you'd buy only to wear to work, and the skirt was OK but that slit was close to obscene. Not daring, just tacky. Nothing went together. First time I've ever agreed with Vincent, and he & Kayne really tried to help this design. This from a Barbie designer - what a disappointment. His design wasn't great last week either.

Project Runway's Keith: I Didn't Cheat
FRIDAY AUGUST 04, 2006 09:50AM EST

The first-ever designer to be kicked off Bravo's Project Runway for breaking the rules has spoken out about his ouster – and he thinks he got a raw deal.

Brooklyn, N.Y., native Keith Michael, 34, was asked to leave because he had pattern-making books in his room – a violation of the contest's rules – and at one point had gone AWOL from the production.

The freelance designer tells Bravo senior vice president of production and programming Andy Cohen, who writes a blog on bravotv.com, "I am not the kind of person who can't admit when he's wrong. I feel like there was a lack of integrity on behalf of the production. I thought it was one-sided."

He doesn't deny he had the books – only that he used them to cheat. "These pattern books were not the kind that you would be able to use for practical purposes on the show," he says.

"One of the books was the most detailed pattern book you would ever see about menswear that had nothing to do with anything on the show. I brought it because I was working on my menswear line at the time. And the other was a dictionary of production terms."

As for what he did during his four-hour unauthorized leave from production, Michael tells Cohen, "All I did was I went to my boyfriend's apartment, found his spare key, found an e-mail from the executive producer and asked him to contact me. I don't know what to say – that's the deal."

Michael says that at least one Project Runway contestant is on his side: Fellow Brooklyn native Alison Kelly. "Alison is very supportive of me. She was very confused because she liked me very much. It seemed like the evidence against me was heavy and she didn't know what to feel."

"I think this whole thing is farfetched and crazy," he continues. "I have gotten so much fan e-mail from this whole thing. People want me to be the bad boy, but I am not that guy. … I thought I would win because of talent, but now I don't know who's to blame but I am not owning up to this."

Michael also addresses Internet rumors that the sketches he'd presented at his audition were in fact drawings from other designers' runway shows. The sketches, he says, were part of a trend report he'd presented to a client as an overview of the latest styles.

"I work for a lot of huge fashion companies and do trend reports for a lot of them and people pay me for that information to review what's going on in fashion," he says.

What's next for the designer? "I am focusing on getting a showroom to represent me," he says. "I need cash behind me to do what I want. Getting the funding that I need will hopefully let me show in September."

And he's confident he'll get the funding even without Project Runway's $100,000 prize. "I was hoping to win," he says. "But I will figure out another way of doing it. There's a few ways to skin a cat, right?"

-----------------------------------
Seriously, that guy has more excuses then a doctor has pills. He's been complete BS since the beginning, so why would anyone believe him now? I think the ruling was fair. Too bad he was auf'd before Kors came back. I would have liked to see Keith try to pull one over on him.

This season is turning out to be a real bore! Rosettes? Puh-lease...

I liked the Keith/Jeffery/Alison outfit a lot. It wasn't quite in keeping with what Macy's has on their shelves, but it was the standout IMO. When ol' tattoo neck keeps his mouth shut, he really doesn't bother me all that much.

Boring Bonnie got the boot, and not a minute too soon. She wasn't up to par with the rest of the designers (not that the bar is set that high) and her sportswear background was her undoing. Those pants? Wretched! Her team could have been a little more productive, too. Bradley was just going on and on with his weed induced rantings...WTF?

The Michael/Angela/Laura outfit was cute, despite the rosettes. Angela should be kissing the ground Laura and Michael walk on because they totally pulled it off for her. The hair and makeup on their model is what made the outfit pop, thanks to Miss Michael's bitchin' skills. I'm telling you Paula, girl has got it going on.

The only comment I have for Robert's team is that my mom has that same shirt in her closet. What was he thinking? Why didn't Kayne step in and glitz it up a little bit? Anything could have helped, even something from that nutjob Vincent. Not very impressive considering the background of those two queens.

I'm writing this now since I won't be online for a few days.

Michael & Kayne rocked this challenge. I'm glad Michael won, since Kayne's already won one challenge. They really seemed to understand the challenge itself, and they made fantastic clothes. Loved the pink on the model's skin. When he said "hotpants" I was like "oh no...." But they really worked.

So, Mikeschmike. We got us some hot pink satin. We got us some giggling with the gay boys. We got us some hotpants. We got us a big gay bear hug at the end of the show. I think we got us a homo.

Kayne's vampira Marilyn twist? Hawt.

Brad deserved to go. Horrid. Looked like tin foil. Sorry, weird hippie dude. As soon as I saw how poorly made it was, I knew he was a goner. Maybe he should have tried to make something out of hemp.

Laura - faaaaaaaaabulous. As usual. But predictable.

Uli - another feminine long flowing dress. What a surprise.

Allison - Cute, Nothing special.

Jeffrey - Hideous. Yeah, yeah, you're cool rock & roll guy. We get it. Saying you hope someone has a stroke? Very classy & professional. Jerkoff.

Vincent - Blech. Yuck. Ick. Blergh. Gag. And finally, barf.

Robert - Dude! WTF?!?! You, gay designer of Barbie clothes, can't figure out how to modernize Jackie O's look? As Tim Gunn would say, I'm worried. :(

Angela - Pretty nice simple little black dress. Classic, but again, nothing too special. She should have to fix that damned machine, btw.

I LOVE KAYNE!! I just do. He's the only one with balls.
Vincent...something about him facinates me ( him as a person, not his clothes)...I don't know why? Is there something WRONG with me???

Uli and Allison are just too adorable. Uli is same old but Allison has good stuff coming I think. She's just so young.

I love this show.

I agree completely with everything you said. they have got to start branching out and doing something exciting or I'm not watching cause it's gonna get boring. Kayne's dress was awesome. I liked his the most, but I'm glad Michael won, his look came off VERY Pam Grier with a modern twist. I was shocked that Heidi said she wanted Angela's dress in every color...yeah, it was cute, but there was something weird going on with the waist...and those damn flowers get on my nerves.

Vincent makes me sick...I literally can't stand him. Bradley's look actually, to me, looked very Cher...on an off day, but still Cher. I think he made a mistake with the top, but the pants were cool...but I don't think he's good enough to withstand the competition so it was time.

Fashion Models

Just when some of you were beginning to grumble about inexplicable victories on this season's Project Runway, along comes a segment that should make almost everyone happy: a great, clever challenge — each of the 10 remaining designers got to update the look of a different ''fashion icon,'' from Katharine Hepburn to Madonna to Cher. A fine outcome: Fan favorite Michael, an underappreciated contender for weeks now, finally won a challenge, even though, let's be honest, his magenta toot-toot-hey-beep-beep tribute to Pam Grier wasn't his strongest work this season. And, finally, a dismissal with which nobody can quarrel: Going into the episode, it was already clear that of the remaining contenders, either Vincent or Bradley had to get the boot. And one of them did.

Bye-bye, Bradley. You're going home. Home to whatever spacey-woodsprite-tree-hollow-magic-mushroomland you came from. Home to a safe place where nobody has ever heard of Cher and everybody thinks it's perfectly okay to dress her in a top made out of Reynolds Wrap and pants that were so intent on beginning their very own vagina monologue that even the model called cameltoe on you. Home to where you can have the nap that you look like you've been wanting really badly.

In fairness to Vincent — whose fashion icon was Twiggy — he did try really hard to make the most hideous dress of the night, boldly choosing to use a fabric usually reserved for vinyl tablecloths in rundown diners and then adding clown pockets. And nice guy Robert, in whom we wish we had more faith, severely botched his Jackie O tribute dress by making a linen skirt that looked like it had a doggie door in the back, some kind of indescribably grim blouse that appeared to be topped with barbed wire, and a jumbo jacket belted with rope (it didn't help that his model walked down the runway as if she'd just been given a wedgie). They're both very lucky that Bradley clearly just wasn't the kind of little boy who used to stand in front of a full-length mirror and pretend he was Cher.

Speaking of which: Hi, Kayne. Another strong night for the boy from Oklahoma: His Marilyn Monroe dress — a sexy, serious, daring, well-styled gown that even used leather well — showed that he's a real competitor (this challenge was so up his alley that he managed to reference famous Marlene Dietrich and Cher dresses in his own gown without losing focus). He looked just a teensy bit frozen-faced when Michael beat him, although for my money, Uli's expensive-looking pink-purple dazzler of a Diana Ross dress (which seemed to come with a side order of Stevie Nicks) should have made the top three, and Laura's impeccable trousers-and-blouse Katharine Hepburn modernization (the only thing on the runway that was wearable by women who don't look like models, and also the design that met the challenge most accurately) should have won.

In fact, Laura should have gotten some kind of immunity just for demolishing the insufferable Jeffrey with the single best bitch-slap of the season: ''If you're so f---in' successful and you know so much, what are you doing here, Jeff?!'' (Jeff's typically classless response, presumably made after he picked his entrails up off the floor: ''God, I wish that f---in' bitch would have a stroke.'' I assume he meant Laura, since Angela's T-shirt clearly identified her as a biatch, which is different.)

By the way, how did Jeffrey's Madonna dress escape the wrath of Nina Garcia, Michael Kors (welcome back!), and the mesmerizingly dry Diane Von Furstenberg? There have been beautiful dresses, bland dresses, and blecch dresses on this season of Runway, but Jeffrey's ode to Madonna was the first outfit this year that appeared quite literally not to have been designed for a human. Maybe there's a planet on which women are shaped like rectangles and can only attract males by disguising themselves as large red popcorn boxes. That must be the planet where neck tattoos are considered hot.

But why complain when the hour was so full of things to love? There was that moment when 10 models, showing more energy than they have in their lives, simultaneously lunged toward that table full of photographs as if Tim Gunn had just unveiled a cheeseburger-flavored diet pill. There was Michael realizing his Pam Grier dress had crossed the line from street to streetwalker, changing course, and pulling out that victory. And, of course, there was the Swiss Miss-meets-Nancy Sinatra in the Bowels of Hell dress-and-boots combination that Heidi was wearing. As Michael Kors would say (and in fact did say, twice): ''Insane.'' Hours like this are why we love Project Runway.

What did you think? Isn't it a rip-off that Michael didn't get immunity? Couldn't there be a superhero costume challenge in which he gets to design an outfit for Captain Save-A-Ho? And won't Vincent's reign of error ever end?

Holy crap, I never posted a review for last week. Shaaaaaaaaaaame.

Good for Michael and his Pam Grier resurrection. He really pulled it off, hotpants and all. He reminds me a tad of Karamo (a real world cast member from a few years ago) minus the bitchiness.

To me, Bradley was closer to Cher then Robert was to Jackie O. You know Bob Mackie was at home bitching up a storm though. I will give Robert a little credit because it would be pretty difficult to modernize Kennedy-Onassis elegance on a $150 budget. The Cher top hurt my eyes.

Tattoo neck needs to calm it down with the cockiness. He's not putting anything out that really condones his behavior, so he needs to shut it. Even Santino had a few gems go down the runway. Laura was right on with her "what are you doing here?" question.

LOVED:
Angela-Audrey Hepburn
Kayne-Marilyn
Michael-Pam Grier

HATED:
Vincent-Twiggy
Robert- Jackie O
Bradley- Madonna (I think that was his "icon")

Michael's was good, but I think Jeffrey deserved the win. everything about J's dress was awesome. Laura's was cute, but predictable...same for Uli's - the rest blend together so much I can't really think of anything worthwhile to say.

and I love how the previews for every show have them all going "ohh...ahh" or screaming or mouth dropped to the floor...

They blew the perfect opportunity to dump Vincent. I'm sorry, but poorly made & inability to move, let a lone walk, in an outfit trumps unflattering. Ridiculous. Allison did NOT deserve to go.

And if her model didn't have an eating disorder before, she does now. Zaftig? Huge? Fat Minnie Mouse? Goodness. Why don't you just hand her a razor so she can slit her wrists.

Tim Gunn in the goggles, hard hat & vest made me giggle. Make it work, people! :D

Jeffrey - Up until now, he hasn't backed his smack-talking up at all. This week was different. I loved it, thought it was beautiful. The fact that you couldn't tell it was newspaper was incredible (at first I was like "oh, great, like that's never been done before" - I was pleasantly surprised.) The colors were kickass & the paper flowed so naturally. He should have won.

Michael- Made trash look sexy. That top was intricately done & gorgeous. I loved that he just kind of let the wrap stay where it layed, and it still worked. Gold bustier, wrap with brooch? Mikeschmike - his flame is getting brighter every ep!

Laura - Love this bitch. Love that she's mean to those who I don't like. Love her designs. Not so much a fan of the "for nuts only" on the back, but I can overlook that. The dress had great structure - my only complaint is that it was really stiff. The flower was a nice touch.

Allison - Sad that one bad week ruined everything for her. I think she'll be fine - young, pretty, and very talented. It's just a shame that she couldn't figure out a way to pull off the first skirt she was trying to make.

Robert - Dude. WTF. You're a gay man who designs Barbie clothes, and this is all you can come up with? Even Barbie, that little tramp, wouldn't wear that to a cocktail party. Well, maybe in 1982 she would have. But sheesh. It's like he's literally not even trying, he's given up, doesn't care.

Kayne - Shockingly bad. I think he honestly expected to go, especially since he did not believe in his design at all. I don't know if it didn't come out the way he envisioned or what, but it was horrid. I don't agree with Laura on this one though, saying she often worries about his choices? I really thought this was his first mistake. But it was a big one. BTW - I just saw a pic of Miss USA in his dress - People mag maybe?

Vincent - The guy's a f*cking mess, and his designs are a f*cking mess. Send him home so he can get some therapy & beg for his old job back. He took garbage & made it look like....garbage. Good job, jerk. Putrid. That poor model almost broke her neck trying to walk in it. I love that Laura thinks he's a nutjob. What was with his comeback? "Stick some Harry Winstons up your nose!" Dude, maybe if you had said "ass" I would have some respect for you. Get some balls. And some vision. And some talent. And some.......

Angela - She's such a little flake. The dress, er, skirt, er, jumper....whatever. It was very shiny. That's all I have to say about that.

That Michael is really proving himself to be superior to more then half of the cast. He can design circles around Laura, Angela, Robert and Vincent. Michael Kors was right when he said that Michael would really plan out what he was doing, and have a solid thought process behind it.

As for the others, the whole challenge was a total let down. My favorite part of the show ended up being the segment with Robert and Kayne being bitchy over dinner. I love those two girls. Love 'em to death. They're not terribly talented, but they can make up for it in personality (see: Jay McCarrol)

I do have one note of critcism for this season. Heidi Klum's choice of clothing. What was she thinking? I sent a text message to my friend Megan asking "what the F*CK is she wearing?" and the reply I got back said "She stole it from Stevie." It's funny because it's true.

Has anyone been able to figure out what's on Jeffrey's neck? All I can see so far is "Detroit" on the left side.

According to People Magazine, Jeffrey's tattoo says: Harrison Detroit l'amor de la mia vita. It's his son's name and then "love of my life" in French.

Okay, that's cool and all, but on his neck? I want to scrub it off, it just looks like dirt to me. Like someone scribbled on him w/ a Sharpie while he was passed out drunk.

I do have one note of critcism for this season. Heidi Klum's choice of clothing. What was she thinking? I sent a text message to my friend Megan asking "what the F*CK is she wearing?" and the reply I got back said "She stole it from Stevie." It's funny because it's true.

She's ridiculous. That EW review BTFLCHLD posted earlier was spot on - Swiss Miss Nancy Sinatra from the bowels of hell. Who is her stylist? Sometimes when she walks out, the designers must be "she's going to judge my design and the bitch is wearing that?!?"

I'm waiting for someone like Vincent or Laura to come at her with some comment like that.

"How are you going to judge my outfit as poor when you look like Cindy Brady on LSD? Harry Winstons up your nose, too!"

Dear God, let somebody say something. Please!

totally. and I was a little pissed that Heidi told Allison's model she looked like a plus-size model. ok, that's fine...on the line, but fine.

but then when they were all discussing it, she said Allison made her model look fat...therefore plus-size = fat = unattractive?

ain't that the truth. the girl did not look fat, plus-size or anything near it. she just looked disproportioned...the waist, I thought, looked fairly ok. I think if Allison had gone with a more simple first layer and tapered or A-line skirt and then JUST had the waist bit it would've been a lot better.

oh, and thanks. fab is as fab does.

Exactly - the implication was that a plus size model would not be attractive.

As a side note, Tim Gunn did a little advice thing in Redbook this month, and he points out that he knows plenty of hot plus size women with style. it wasn't in respose to PR, he was just saying that you can look great no matter what your size.

first off, I despise Jeffrey now. I mean he had a chip on his shoulder from the get go. Angela's mom seemed so soft spoken and really was just doing what all the other mother's were doing. and I didn't really get Michael Kors' comment about "it's just Stevie Nicks in black" - does that mean it basically nothing new?

Michael - I like it. I thought the belt was the worst part, but it really was a cute dress and suited her figure.

Kayne - honestly, I don't remember his outfit. I'll have to look it up. EDIT: after looking it up, I now know why I blocked it from my memory. she looked like sherbert. it just looked ill-fitted and I wasn't sure what was up with the scarf...I agree that he should have made something a little more revealing and spiced up her skintone with more color.

Laura - it was ok, but a little overboard (no pun intended). I would have liked to have seen a much shorter skirt and the scarf needed to be on in a different way.

Uli - cute. I think it was a little too flowy, but the colors were perfect for her skin tone. I hated that big ass necklace thrown on top of it.

Jeffrey - putrid. what else can you say?

Vincent - I hate to say it, but it was my favorite. I loved the colors and the cut of it. I just wish that cute collar had extended a little further back.

Robert - deserved to go. she kept fidgeting with that damn scarf part the whole time she was going down the runway. color was good though. it was gross and he was consistently boring.

Angela - same as Kayne's...forgettable I guess...I'll supplement. EDIT: this bitch is crazy. fringe on a damn dress? layered fringe? she ain't the brightest star in the sky. she needs to go next.

I was surprised vincent won only in that it was a nice design but upon closer inspection there appeared to be some fabric gathering in odd places, the collar seemed to stiff or perhaps mis-shaped, and I did not like the plain back at all especially due too the poorly sewn zipper. I thought Michael would have been a good choice but I was disappointed he didn't take the opportunity to show the reverse of the dress (when they brought the models back out.) Kayne, Robert and Jeffrey all made hideous choices with Jeffrey's being the worst (wtf was that?)

Jeffrey is a disrespectful ass. Mom was overly sensitive IMO but still Jeffrey would you want your mom spoken to in that way?

Jeffrey's mom is totally clueless. Even to the fact of how Jeffrey talks of being a homeless junkie, yet his mom refers to him as a recovering alcoholic. There's a big difference between the two.

Anyway, on to the challenge. It was all so boring, and underwhelming as MK likes to say. They were all so dull and safe that I could see why they chose Vincent as the winner. Uli and her prints, Laura and her necklines, Kayne's pageant chic designs, and Angela's 80's/crap creations. Fringe? Are you in the Ike and Tina Turner revue? I hate it! Jeffrey made Angela's mom look like Violet in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I won't even get into Robert, who should have gotten the axe weeks ago. I have a feeling that Malan would have had some good creations had he not messed up so early.

Everyone is playing it safe, and they come up with the same crap week after week. The only one that really thinks about it is Michael. Even so, he is repetitive as well. I'm waiting for the prodigy to emerge, much like Daniel V from season two. Where are you?!?!

ITA - it wasn't bad, but to me it didn't look like it fit well. Bunched up in front & gave her a tummy bulge. For Vincent, it was pretty good. For anyone else, it wasn't up to par.

And I agree about Jeffrey too - she wasn't nasty about it, she just said it wasn't what she asked for and she didn't like it. What, was she supposed to lie? Jerkoff. I think that HE thought she was purposely trying to sabatoge him & give Angela an advantage, but it didn't look that way to me.

And the crying after Robert got booted? Please. He was crying with relief because he knew he should have been gone. "Others here aren't good people, but he is..." Oh, really? Are you a good person Jeff? Caling people evil bitches & saying you hgope they have strokes? Anyway, Robert has been dull dull dull lately, but Jeff simply ignored what his client wanted & made an unattractive garment that looked bad on her. Gross.

Michael - I didn't like the belt either, but the dress itself was fab. The reversed side looked very cool peeking out at the neckline & hem. Of course, he was lucky enough to have an "every day normal woman" with almost model proportions.

Uli - I think she should have won. Yes, it is her usual flowy gauzy stuff. But she uses different patterns together brilliantly, and this is what her client wanted. Like Kors said - the challenge was to design what your client wanted but to retain your style. She did that.

Robert - He didn't even try. Goodbye. Jeff is one lucky SOB.

Laura - for the first time, I hated her design. Looked like a flight attendant. Hated the high waist, hated the scarf. Pregnancy must be messing up her brain.

Kayne - Bad Lane Bryant. She did look like sherbet. She was much to young, vibrant & attractive for that. Should have done a print.

Angela - Fringe. Fringe. Um....fringe. On a classy 60something lady. Hmmmmm...I had to laugh at Korr's comment though - "this is Stevie Nicks in black." OK, I guess you mean Stevie Nicks in the 80's, when her wearing black wasn't always the norm? Cuz brother, she hasn't worn anything BUT black int he last 15 years.

Korrs' mother - how fabulous is she?!?! And how many facelifts has be bought for her?

I'm so glad Vincent won! I don't know why I like him, but I do! I was actually proud of him for finally winning. Because other than this, I can't remember a time when he wasn't in the bottom three.

I'm actually on Jeffery's side. He had the worst model and she was way too serious and was being a cry baby through the whole process. Angela clearly didn't fall too far from the tree. That whole family is wack! Yes, Jeffery was kind of mean, but I think Angela's Mother was trying to sabatoge the outfit. I am sure Angela informed her how much she hated Jeff.

Anyway, I thought Kayne's outfit was slimming on Michael's mother, however, it totally washed her out! All I could see was muted, boring colors. Maybe some hot pink would have been nice?

Robert: Snoooooze!!!!! What was he thinking? That looks like the same thing every "40 pounds overweight" woman wears. He should have made something more tailored. Something that didn't look like a sack! His model looked huge in it. And, she didn't look that huge when she was wearing her own clothes.

Michael: It looked like a maid's uniform. I didn't like it. It fit well, but it should have been much sexier and less conservative, as Heidi said.

Angela- get this woman off my screen! As if Stevie would ever wear something that horrible! And when Michael said "It looks like Stevie Nicks in Black", I thought "How redundant! When doesn't she wear black?" As if Stevie would actually wear that horrible thing.

Uli- Yawn!!!

Laura: Oh my! This was not good. It looks like Laura was not used to dressing an older woman. She was trying to be classy (as usual) and it was a good idea, but it just didn't look good. The proportions were all wrong. And congrats to her on being pregnant! How does she stay so thin after all those kids? Sheesh! You would never think she was a Mom since she is so sophisticated and posh. More power to her!

I think that about covers it.

I liked this episode. It was entertaining. It definately stirred the pot, getting their Mothers/Sisters involved. And, you know it was a weird episode when Vincent actually won!!!!

I miss Malan! That really sucks that we don't get to see what he would have done with these challenges.

And some.......

what you been smokin? she seemed very polite to me and was just voicing her concerns/opinions. he, on the other hand, seemed to be a total jerk from the get go. no matter what she said, he should have been respectful. everyone in that room was probably tense because they were worried about how their moms were going to be treated. I don't think she was trying to sabotage the outfit at all. when he said I don't really appreciate you standing here and how you like the sound of that - and that tone he used, was that really necessary? it's just stupid.

One last comment about this episode: I thought it was completely unfair that Michael got a really thin, young model. She was a complete fish out of water since most of the models were over 50 and at least 30 pounds overweight. It gave Michael an unfair advantage. That is probably why he didn't win. His dress was well made, but it would have been to unfair to let him win when he had clearly the most model-like model.

I personally think it is total-BS the issue between model-thin and super-size. Right away they were discussing moo-moos, etc. A true designer can design for any woman not make crap unflattering designs due to an extra 100 pds and 100 in. Michael's dress would have looked just as well in/on a larger size. Maybe. ;) I would imagine it certainly is easier to design for someone model-thin but I find it hard to believe a pattern can not be cut larger nor a style other than "drape" be created.

And, I am of the opinion that it wasn't angela's mom out to sabatoge jeffery, but jeffery out to sabatoge mom. That design wouldn't have looked good on a size 0.

Nick from season two had this to say over at people.com:

Episode Seven
My sadness from Alison's untimely departure last week quickly dissolved into happiness when I discovered this week's challenge: Heidi, who thankfully changed out of her Stevie Nicks dress from the previous episode, tells the designers that they'll be creating an outfit for the everyday woman. To everyone's jaw-dropping surprise, that everyday woman turns out to be the designers' respective mothers or sisters. I am sure that the Runway set must have looked like a scene from Steel Magnolias with all the tears that were flowing. And, of course, there was a twist to the challenge: The designers couldn't pick their respective relatives.

But the best surprise was saved for Laura's mother, who found out while having champagne with Michael Kors and his mom that she was going to be a grandmother – for a SIXTH time! Get her another bottle of champagne, QUICKLY! Laura informed her shocked mother that she got the news after starting Project Runway. (Was the crew giving out free E.P.T. exams as a perk? All I got was a loofah and some extra Tresemmé gel!)

Back at the workroom, the designers got down to business creating outfits for their non-size-2 clients. (It's interesting to note that nobody picked the plus-size ladies first.) They quickly realized that this was going to be a challenging task on several levels. First, they had to hone their private client skills quickly. Second, there were no size 14 forms to assist them in their draping. And the designers had to balance satisfying their client while remaining true to their individual design aesthetic.

Almost all the designers worked harmoniously with their client, except for Jeffrey. It was heart-wrenching to see Angela's mom be demeaned and insulted by the egomaniacal Jeffrey. Let me say this once: Jeffrey needs therapy and lots of it. As a son who loves his mother and respects all mothers, I was appalled. I was surprised that his cruise-hopping mom did not slap him upside his head for disrespecting Angela's mother. He's lucky that his model was not my mom, Raquel. Don't mess with a Latina: She would have kicked his pierced-and-tattooed head from Parsons to Brooklyn!

On the runway, the results were mixed. My favorite was Uli's design for Kayne's mom. However, it was Vincent's tailored suit-dress with a contrasting Revere collar for Uli's mother that won over the judges. For a minute there, I thought my TiVo had gone into German simulcast mode when the two Heidis (Uli's mom and Klum) began chatting away!

The bottom-two designers were Robert and Jeffrey. Jeffrey missed the mark altogether by not listening to Angela's mom, belittling her and ultimately creating an outfit that she would never wear. But, according to the judges, he had a "point of view" and "vision" and therefore he stayed. I disagree with their assessment: A strong point of view is not an excuse to give Jeffrey a pass, especially if it was – let's face it – an ugly point of view.

Consequently, it was Robert's simple (read: BORING) outfit for Vincent's sister that got the lowest votes. I think that viewers are now going to move on from the Alison Should Have Stayed League and join a new cause: Mothers Against Jeffrey. Sign me up!

Okay, clearly I am the only one watching Project Runway anymore. But, I will continue to talk to myself....

Go Vincent! He made it another week. I actually really liked his outfit for himself. It was simple and cool and "bacis black". I loved it!

Kayne: Oh my! Laura took the words out of my mouth. "I love him, but he is sooo tacky!" That about sums it up. What was he thinking? Is that something that he would actually wear?

Laura: You could actually tell she was pregnant! I didn't realize she would be "showing" so soon. Her garment was very nice. Like Vincent's, it was very classic and basic and perfect for any country she jet-setted to.

Michael: Didn't like it that much. It's not my style.

Uli: Loved it! It was very "Uli". I think it was nice and colorful.

Jeffrey: He was getting on my last nerve! He needs to shut up about Angela's Mom. Yes, her mom was annoying and a cry baby. But enough is enough! He should at least respect Angela enough to stop saying those things right in front of her. His outfit didn't do anything for me either.

Angela: Wow! What a mistake. I am so glad she is gone! I did not like her and she had no taste. Who puts two big flowers on their ass? LOL! Adios Angela.

Has anyone else noticed that the only person that has not won a challenge is Laura? I am thinking that she is too classic and basic to ever really win a challenge. She makes beautiful garments. But, they are never creative enough to actually win.

As far as the Paris thing was concerned, I thought it was a tad too gimicky. I hope they are back in New York next week. I think they will be based on the preview.

I agree with you that I wonder if Laura isn't suffering from Uli's disease. I guess we'll have to wait and see. and I also agree the whole Paris thing was f*in stupid. wtf?

Vincent - for the simple fact that he had never made menswear, he did ok. it was boring, but it was good.

Kayne - he is slightly over the top, but I don't think it was tacky. I actually could see that shirt on many Hollywood celebs at a premiere or something. it wasn't AS bad as they made it out to be. I mean, I wouldn't wear it, but I wouldn't think someone looked, as they said, ridiculous.

Laura - it really washed her out, I think. but the construction and execution was amazing.

Michael - yeah, I didn't really get this or why it was all the rage. it was kinda boring. and I didn't like the "all white" look

Uli - I'm starting to bore of her looks. don't get me wrong, they are all lovely, but I just wonder if she's limited to just that.

Jeffrey - hate him. he is such a c*nt.

Angela - it was awesome how she held her own without getting way emotional. she stood up for herself and her mom the best she could. she tried hard. I didn't really like her, but she had guts and tried. auf wieddersehn (or however the hell you spell it)

I really liked last night's episode, even though the Paris thing seemed so random. Maybe the designers got a couple of days of R&R while they were there? Anyway...

Michael: Not his best work, but it was nice. Black men with fit bodies can pull off an all white outfit, which he obviously did. As far as jetetting goes, the clothes really didn't fit the challenge. I did happen to love the pants.

Uli: A colorful print dress? How strange... She's cute, and has a great personality but I'm just not feeling it with her. She needs to really start changing it up.

Which brings me to Laura. Once again the same old dress, with a little knot on it. Well excuse me while I call Vogue. The chick better get something different on the runway, and fast.

Kayne: I've seen shirts that resemble his, which are usually worn by gay men referring to themselves as "bois". It was a little on the tacky side, but so is Kayne. He's tacky chic, right down to the rhinestones. The good thing about him is that he seems open enough to take advice from the judges and tone it down a tad.

Vincent: For a guy that never designed menswear, it turned out very nice. It seems a little "Target", but I think this is really what he would wear if he was party hopping. I'm just glad there weren't any crazy Vincent additions. He could have saved some of that garbage from two challenges ago and glued it on. I wouldn't out it past the guy.

Jeffrey: The guy looked ridiculous, plain and simple. Picturing him walking in the Paris workroom makes me chuckle still. The pants were so tight that it made him look unproportioned. Those sunglasses, the purple, the everything. Just...yuck. Jazz, c*nt is the perfect word for him. Right on.

Angela: ROSETTES! I knew those things would be her downfall. That fabric was all wrong, and she knew it once she got to Paris. I have to hand it to her because she sucked it up about last week's fiasco and was adult about it. I was expecting some tear filled accusations and childish bickering. Jeffrey took care of the childish behavior, leaving Angela to look like the mature one. I'm still not sad to see her leave though. She just wasn't "there" with her designs.

Jeffrey - hate him. he is such a c*nt.

oh my gawd. i haaaaaate him. but anyway.

michael: loved the outfit. so clean and fresh, he woulda looked great wherever he was jetsetting. also loved the tasteful bling.

uli: so fabulous. i love her. sure, maybe she's stuck in a rut, but it's a beautiful, colorful rut, and i love it. what's wrong with having a signature look when you're a fashion designer?

angela: ok, angela's stuck in a rut too. it's called FUG. omg, what was she thinking with those rosettes? ouch. that hurt my everything. the whole "fug boho" look that's popular these days doesn't make sense to me. anyway, she didn't even boho, it was more like ... hobo.

kayne: i love kayne. apparently i love tacky just as much as he does, because i loved his outfit. i know it doesn't really have a place on this show, tho ... so i hope he tones it down next time. i would love for the top 3 to be kayne, laura, and michael.

laura: how classy and elegant is this bitch? she has impeccable taste and skill. her dress was beautiful. maybe a more saturated color would have looked better with her complexion, but i still love it.

jeffrey: hate him.

vincent: hate him. i think they were too easy on him. yes, it was basic black, but the pants looked like **** and the neckline of the **** moved weirdly when he walked.

i love angela.. (of course).. and i'm very sad to see her go! i just loved her style and point of view. but sadly she just made a huge mistake in the fabric department! it did not travel well at all!

i give her props for totally staying true to her unique style though.. she wanted those rosettes on her ass and by golly she put them on there! ;)

she really is a great designer though.. if you ever notice the detailing in her work.. it is very very impressive, especially considering the limited time they have to make these garments!

and... i still say her fashion icon dress is the best design this season.. period! :p
I don't understand Angela's appeal. I respect her a little more since she was so mature and didn't give into Jeffrey's bickering. But I still don't like her.

But I love Vincent and most people hate him. So, different strokes for different folks, right? Cool sig. btw... I should make a Vincent one!

My favorite line last night was when the judges asked Vincent "Where's the twist?" and he said "I'm the twist!"

Okay, clearly I am the only one watching Project Runway anymore. But, I will continue to talk to myself....

Why do you say that? Several of us are watching it faithfully.

Laura - ITA with Carrie - how classy is this bitch? Loved the dress, loved the fabric. My only minor complaint is the color - she's very pale and it made her look a bit washed out. I think it would have been better in either a chocolate brown or a deep eggplant. But I could totally see a rich socialite jetsetter flying around the world in that, getting right off the plane & heading out to dinner. And once again, she gets the quote of the day "We don't have time to dick around here..." That, and she called Jeff an asshole again. She's my idol.

Michael - Soooooo not my taste, but the guy is good. I could see Puff Daddy (or whatever the f*ck his name is now) or Kanye West walking out of a plane wearing that. Current & trendy, but not loud or over the top.

Kayne - Sweet Jesus. Looked like a male figure skater's costume. Even my beloved Neil Diamond wouldn't have touched that outfit. Tacky, tacky tacky. Although, I did love the belt buckle..... :p I felt really bad when that snooty French designer said "Kayne, you look ridiculous." Harsh. Poor guy.

Jeffrey - The guy's a dick. I wanted to hate his design. But I didn't. Not sure why, but it worked for me. He met the criteria of the challenge very well.

Vincent - On one hand, it was very classic & casual, yet elegant. Travelled well & he wouldn't be under or overdressed for most events. On the other, it was very safe & a tad boring.

Angela - As soon as Tim Gunn told her it looked "Holly Hobby" she sould have changed it up somehow. To say "Oh, that's OK?!?!"?" ANGELA! You're supposed to be an international superstar jetsetter! NO, Holly Hobby is NOT alright! Sheebus! I don't care if you live on a farm - you read magazines, you've seen photos. Whip up a wrap dress or a chic suit & be done with it. As soon as Korrs said the fabric sucked, I knew that despite how ridiculous Kayne's design was, she'd be out. They don't tolerate poorly made or sloppy looking garments. She did not meet the challenge, so I don't feel badly at all.

Uli - I'll just repost my review from week one, since it still obviously applies  :

[B]Ulrike ....she'd better do something different besides those long flowing dresses or she won't be there long.

Laura looked HOT all done up!

Jeffrey deserved to win and I'm glad he did.... he may be a jerk but he's a talented jerk. Reality shows always edit their footage to create a "villain" and he's really the only one left since Keith got the boot. Vincent has softened up considerably as well. I'm still pissed about Alison getting kicked off when that was her only misstep the entire competition. Angela should have been gone a while back. I think Michael & Jeffrey are my top two. I love how they showed Michael applauding Jeff for winning. Michael is a class act.

I think Kayne is entertaining but Laura was right... his tackiness does not translate well into "high fashion" or even mainstream stuff.

Here's what she said to Entertainment Weekly:

http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1503866_3||321057_0_,00.html

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Before we talk about clothes or the show, I have to ask: Did they at least let you stay in Paris for a little while, or was it — boom! — right back to the airport?
ANGELA KESLAR: You know what? They put me up in the coolest hotel, called the Cube. It was amazing: They had this bar that was made out of ice, and you could only be there for 30 minutes. I didn't get to spend visitor time in Paris, but I went out in style for sure. The next day I flew out, after an incredible breakfast. I'm a big food person, so I was very happy.

I noticed a small tummy bump, which is to expecting considering I just read she was between 3&4 months preg during filming. :wavey: Since she is so thin, it's more noticeable, esp. since her dress was pretty fitted in front.

wow, the pickins were seriously thin in this episode. i am SO glad vincent's gone. bye bye, talentless freak! enjoy your life of obsolescence! he seriously creeped me out. ha, and all that bull**** about how he's trained in couture and how everyone else was making ****ty dresses? puh-LEEZE! hate him. ew, and the way he went after catherine on the boat? gawd. i can't stand him.

anyway. i can't believe jeffrey won. i mean, they got $375 for fabric, right? so that means he must have, like, $355 left over after buying enough table cloths to make that dress out of, right? gawd. oh, also, jeffrey's model's runway walk ALWAYS freaks me out. whoa. calm down, girl.

laura - unfortunately, her reliance on classic lines & styles worked against her here. i was surprised that she could end up in the bottom 2. it was a nice dress, but the judges were right. it's been done.

michael - yikes. couture was clearly not his strong suit. the neckline was so bizarre - i liked the whole dress so much more once the judges told him to tuck those weird things in. it really changed the whole look of the thing. i'm very glad he's still around, since he's super talented.

kayne - ok, maybe i'm tasteless, because i LOVED his dress! i really thought it was stunning. i don't think the bodice was too busy at all, and i thought kayne was being way conservative with this design. if i were in charge, he so woulda won.

uli - i'm shocked that she didn't win. really. her dress was so chic and breezy, and her details were so well executed, that i thought she was an easy shoe-in. way better than jeffrey's mega ugly jaundiced table cloth sack.

the previews for next week really piqued my interest. i can't wait to see why laura was freaking out.

Carrie, I agree...this week was really weird. I was like, do they not know what couture is?

Vincent's really looked like he took **** off a sofa and glued together a hot mess. I'm so glad he's gone. I won't have to hear "it just gets me off" anymore. :wavey:

Jeffrey annoys. his little bird mouth makes me ill. I think he hides a lot of lack of construction, innovation and design behind all those weird lines and gathered fabric.

Laura, bless her heart...it was awful. not bad, awful. the model looked like she stepped out the movie Clue...and not in a good way. she'd better step it up.

Michael tried so I give him credit for that, but it just didn't work. I was a little peeved that no one really cared that someone splattered egg on his dress...help the dude out yo! and yeah, the dress was 100 times better with those atrocious wings tucked in.

Kayne's was, by far, imo, the best. I agree with what Carrie says 100%. the bodice wasn't busy, it was awesome and allowed for the subdued skirt, which was also fabulous.

Uli's was cute, but not really outside the box for her. she made the same dress, just in a solid color. I did love those rope-type accents she used and the flesh-colored top was awesome.

One thing I noticed is that the judge's really seem to be there to criticize and not critique...I don't know, Nina and Michael both are getting on my nerves.

Another week, another underwhelming group of dresses.

Michael: I liked it, minus the wings. Given that it was his first shot at "couture", I think he did alright. He was a little too hard on himself though. I felt bad about the eggs too. The color was hot though!

Kayne: His dress was in improvement from his earlier stuff, and I loved the chiffon on the bottom. Surprised? The top was a bit too much, but he listened to the judges and toned it down. I think he knows what to do, and he'll keep getting better.

Jeffrey: I loathe this man. How come the judges ragged on Laura when his dress was just done by Vivian Westwood? The first thing that came to mind when I saw it was a line out of the movie Spaceballs.
"They've gone to plaid!"

Laura: I really like her personality, but she needs to come up with a different style. Go ahead, I dare you! The judges were right. That dress has been done before, and better.

Uli: It was nice to see her abandon the prints for a week. I liked the dress, although it wasn't my favorite. The color was nice, and it moved well.

Vincent: I don't see why he was bragging about couture when that thing on the back of his dress was eerily reminiscent of an Angela rosette. Sorry Vinnie, I guess PR won't be getting you off anymore.

Laura - what a disappointment! I swear to you, I have an old dress of my mom's from the late 60's that looks soooo similar. Actually, it's prettier. Ick. Still love her attitude the most: "Vincent. He's a legend in his own mind... " :D

Kayne - I liked it. Really. Yeah, there was a lot of gold crap on top, but that corset back was hawt. Loved the ombre bottom too, and the colors together were fab.

Michael - "It looks OK, but underneath this dress is reeeeaaaaal f*cked up." LOL! The color was gorgeous, and tucking in the boob shields made all the difference in the world. Great job for something he's never done before.

Jeffrey - Oh, yes, so new & fresh to take unexpected fabric, ball it up & throw it onto a dress form, then sew it into place. Aren't you a genius. Betsy Johnson called, she's suing you for stealing her ideas. Jerk. I honestly feel that he won only because he took what they felt was the biggest risk & did something unconventional in comparison to the other designs.

Vincent - Thank God I don't have to hear him say "it gets me off" or "it turns me on" anymore. Dude, you're gross. The hitting on the French deisgner was bad enough, but that dress was putrid.

Uli - A long flowing gown with braided detail? How shocking.

After seeing his reaction to that thing on the back of Vincent's dress, I said out loud, "He would have had a coronary had Angela stuck around."

Nick from season two gives his opinion of last week:

Episode Nine
Let's just begin this recap with the fact that I am still (a little bit) bitter because I didn't get to go anywhere except to a New Jersey ice-skating rink last season. And these designers got to go to Paris! Not fair.

The episode began with the designers receiving their next challenge: to create a "couture gown." Haute couture, as Tim Gunn correctly schooled everyone, translates to the art of high fashion. Designers need a license from the French government to deem them couture-worthy. Couture gowns are very expensive and are sewn by a dying breed of "petits mains," or little hands.

Yet for the remaining Runway designers, these rules were bent: They were given 300 euros ($375 U.S. dollars) and two days to create something trés magnifique. They were also instructed that their gowns would have to fit two different models, the Parisian ones and the ones back in New York, where they would face final judging. Side note: All these "new" rules would make a Parisian couturier take a hand-embroidery needle and stab someone in disgust; they are contradictory to everything that haute couture stands for.

In the workroom, Jeffrey proclaimed that he wanted to win, especially since no one has ever won a back-to-back immunity challenge, which instantly told me who the winner was going to be.

After Tim Gunn gave everyone a tour of Paris, guest judge Catherine Malandrino threw a party for everyone with a Seine boat ride – but it got off to a bumpy start when a bored French kid egged the designers. I have two suggestions on why this occurred: Either he had a strong distaste for haute couture, or he saw Michael's tacky gum chewing and wanted to tell him to spit it out! I personally believe the latter.

The final runway judging began after they returned to New York, and there were some scrambled eggs in the group. Michael created an uncharacteristically ill-fitting and unfinished gown. Laura was inspired by Catherine Deneuve's Belle du Jour, but ended up with an unoriginal Yves Saint Laurent copy that would be better suited for a costume museum. I actually loved Kayne's corseted gown. His model Amanda looked like a vision from medieval times, but the judges ganged up on him for "doing too much" (Hmm ... who are they setting up to go home next week?).

Uli's was my favorite to win – it was simply ethereal. Yet Jeffrey's tartan concoction somehow won over the judges. During this season, I admit I've sometimes found myself wondering whether I am watching the same show the judges are seeing on the runway! I understand what Jeffrey was going for. I remember those fabulous Linda-Naomi-Christy Vogue fashion covers featuring these deliciously grand tartan concoctions by Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano, but his creation was something better suited for a bad Mel Gibson Braveheart sequel.

Vincent's half-glued dress looked like something Heather Locklear wore on Dynasty, and he was rightfully sent packing. I only hope someone will bid for it online so that he will never have the chance to "get off on it." Oh dear!

boy, was i wrong! i should learn not to hedge my bets on the previews.

is it just me or was this episode so boring? i mean, the most interesting part was when they announced that angela & vincent would be coming back. i was pissed because i hate them both, but i wasn't worried worried, because i knew neither of them would win. ok, so first: WHAT THE FUG WAS ANGELA WEARING??? i mean, seriously, if you can't dress yourself, you can't cut it in the friggin' fashion industry. that stupid puffy skirt with that stupid "b is for biatch" t-shirt and those STUPID galoshes? girl please! this is a professional competition, not summer camp! angela: what not to wear called, they want their participants' old wardrobes back! sweet jebus. and her design was ridiculous ... she just seems like a provincial person trying to keep up with high fashion and not knowing what to do. in earlier episodes she kept pulling the "i'm from ohio" card like that is some sort of acceptable excuse, but it's not! i mean, has she never watched television/read a magazine/read a newspaper/etc? honestly. anyway, i could go on about her. but i won't.

anyway.

kayne - well, as much as i love him, i am very sad to see him go ... he is so sweet. but it was time ... he just didn't match up. i mean, at the very simplest level, before you even start putting your fingerprint on your design, you need to follow the rules of the challenge. his inclusion of white just seemed like he did it out of obligation, as if he couldn't integrate the color into his design.

vincent - fug. fug fug fug fug fug fug fug fug. i am so turned OFF by this guy. laura's description of him was right on - he is a legend only in his own head. his parting words - "i've been making beautiful music all my life, and i'm going to continue making beautiful music" - what is that? he is seriously not all there. i thought it was interesting how when they were in the sewing room, he said the guy at MOOD gave him too much, but when he was just talking to the camera, he said he overbought. which is it? i have a feeling it was definitely his fault.

jeffrey - looks like he's fallen prey to the same vice he's accused everyone else of - doing the same thing over and over and over. YAWN, jeffrey. you're edgy, we get it! sure, being a designer is about putting your own stamp on things, but success is directly proportional to versatility, and he needs to stretch just as much as everybody does.

laura - i love her. i was so worried she was going to go b/c i kept seeing that commercial with her little mini-breakdown. i am SO glad they validated her here, though. she really seems like the only one capable of being outside her comfort zone. that dress was something she never would have worn, but it worked. it wasn't stunning or interesting, but it worked and it was immaculate. i totally dig her.

michael - this dude knows how to work it. his model looked fab, as always. the only misstep he's made in this entire competition was that couture dress

uli - same old, same old. the judges were right about the sleeves and the necklace is dumb, but you gotta make it work, as tim says. she's totally adorable, though. i love uli.

i think that's everybody ... next week's episode better be more interesting ... this one was kind of a snoozer.

Kayne was either very very good or just so so and the inconsistency probably did him in. I'm not sure Uli will make it past next week and Laura's baby could be born by the next week the way she all of a sudden popped out.

so happy i got to see angela back :) even if she didn't win.. at least i got to see another angela dress go down the runway! :p

jeffery should have been OUT! Kayne's was much better.
I knew your ass would pop in since they brought her back!

and I totally agree with you that Jeffery should have left. but whatevs. Kayne was the best on the show...there's really no reason to watch now.

I am so bored with Uli and Laura. Vincent's was a mess. Angela's looked like it belonged on a vampire movie set...it wasn't horrible, but not a cocktail dress. Michael's was cute. I expected him to win.

I think that they should have only kicked two, and let Kayne stay for another round.

I loved this ep! :blob1: I was actually excited about the twist. That said, I wish they would have had one of those "who do you think should come back" or "out of the elimitated designers, who would you like to see again" votes BEFORE this show, and let the audience decide. Angelea & Vincent? Ugh. I would have chosen Allison for sure, and maybe Robert or even Malin (sp) that weirdo.

Laura - work it, bitch! I thought it was spectacular. Classy without being dated & dull. If I saw that dress in a store, I'd buy it in a second. So glad she won, she really deserved it this challenge.

Michael - Fabulous once again. The only brave soul who used mostly white & accented with black. That model looked smokin' HOT! Love that he lined the black purse in white. Never mind that if I owned it the inside would get filthy dirty in 4 minutes - that's not the point. Oh, and Nina obviously wants to bang him. ****, Korrs probably does too.

Jeffrey - So obvious that they're keeping him around to be "badass rebel who thinks he's too cool for school" guy. It was hideous. He should have gone home.

Kayne - poor thing. I actually liked the dress OK, but I have to agree that he did not meet the challenge as well as the others. Still, Jeffrey's was just so much worse. Oh well. What can you do?

Uli - Once again, I refer to my post from week 1:

Ulrike - It was OK. She'd better do something different besides those long flowing dresses or she won't be there long

I cannot believe that the bitch is still here. If she ends up in the final 3 (which, unless she kicks ass in a major way next week, or another designer F's up royally, I don't see happening) I will scream. SCREAM!

Vincent - They give you another chance, and you give them that? Ridiculous. "I'm great at designing, it's a gift..." Yeah, whatever. Hope you get off on looking like an assh*le.

Angela - They give you another chance, and you give them that? Ridiculous. She didn't honestly think that design would win, did she? Buh-bye. Again.

You wanna know what I think? Well I'm gonna tell you anyway. I think they want Laura, Michael & Jeff in the final 3. And I think they've known that for a while. By keeping Uli, they can easily boot her out next week (if she theoretically does the same thing again, which you know she will) and make it so. Kayne was a bit more of a threat, so if they kept him & he did a great design, it wouldn't have been so easy. And if he made top 3, people would have gone blind at the runway show from all the sequins. Can't have that. :D

I didn't like Laura's dress as much as everyone else does! I HATED the sleeves. HATED them. I thought they looked dowdy and ugly and out of place with the rest of the dress, which was beautiful.

Jeffrey's was one of the worst things I've ever seen on this show. And Kayne's was bad, but it wasn't THAT bad- I don't mind his tackiness that much. That dress he made in Paris that they trashed was beautiful.

Kayne got the boot over that 80's hooker thing that Jeffrey shat out? Oh what a world we live in...

Uli: Hate it. She's gone next week, guaranteed. Kors was right on with the "necklace".

Michael: He's right about black people wearing white. It looked great, and what looks cheap on a cracker like me could easily look elegant contrasted against a rich deep brown skin tone. Well played sir, well played.

Laura: I really liked it. It was Stevie Nicks meets Coco Chanel meets Tina Turner. An unlikely mix, but a good result. I'm glad she won.

Vincent: Seeing his molester-ish smile plastered across my screen only made me wish that Alison had won a challenge. For this challenge I think she and Malan would have rocked it. His dress was pitiful. Nice cape you moron.

Angela: That collar? FUG! Maybe a drag king doing Meatloaf would be interested, but other then that it's garbage. Malandrino better whip her tacky ass into shape!

Jeffrey: See 80's hooker comment above. It was funny to see what a whiny little bitch he was acting like when he was complaining about Angela. We get it dude...you don't like her. Grow a pair and get over it.

Kayne: Besides the pageant dress, this was his best work. Simple, elegant, and a little tacky...but not enough to bring down the vision of the design. The judges had to get rid of him, because they always ditch the funny gay at this point of the show. See: Nick Verreos and Austin Scarlett.

Just saw this online - it's kind of a spoiler so don't read below if you don't want to know.

The remaining four are all finalists and have showings at Fashion Week. According to the article the finale isn't until October 11 so I'm not sure what the episodes will be about until then...

from the article: The final four aspiring designers of television's "Project Runway" unveiled their collections on Friday for New York's Fashion Week, each hoping their style would earn them the winning role on the hit show. The winner will be announced during the season finale on October 11.

i'm pretty much team jeffrey all the way -- especially after allison's unfortunate departure. however, i really like what michael has done as well. i'd be content with either one of them coming out the winner. everything uli makes looks exactly the same and laura, i'm not 100% stoked on but she's not terrible by any means. i was just glad to finally see angela and vincent go for good (though i will admit, the dress he made uli's mom was excellent).

From what I have heard, Chloe is not into media attention the way most of the other designers are. Finally, an episode where Uli didn't say that she was "shoked" by something (the way she pronounces "shocked" has always bugged me). Her dress - meh. So she made it shorter, big deal.

I loved Laura's dress, and other than the neckline mimicking so many of her previous designs, and w/ 6 less hours than usual to sew, I thought she did a great job.

Jeffrey's dress was fug. Hated the way it poofed and then narrowed at the bottom.

Michael's was okay, I thought the model's long hairstyle covered it up too much. Like the designers have said, he's usually so good at pulling together the entire look, and that's where he failed this week.

carrie721
09-27-2006, 10:42 PM
i'm glad uli won. i liked her dress a lot, and i really do think that she got this challenge the most "right" of all of them. her design was rooted in her main statement as a designer, but she displayed versatility. go uli.

michael - wow, this was bad. i can't believe he chose that model. i don't think she is beautiful at all. i hated the color, hated the keyhole. i hope he gets his bearings for fashion week.

laura - same old, same old. i really like her, though. i can't wait to see her full line.

jeffrey - how ugly was this? when he said he was designing a red, white, and blue dress, i was stunned. i was expecting him to send his model down the runway with sparklers or something. what a fug dress. if you're supposed to show the judges your main POV as a designer, you shouldn't go with what you do/like 20% of the time (as he said). bad move. he really had the judges in the palm of his hand until now.

JazmenFlowers
09-28-2006, 09:38 AM
boring. again.

the whole episode was so dull. ****.

Michael - I loved his concept and loved his drawing, but the finished product looked bland. the judges were right. there wasn't really anything going on and the keyhole was WAY too big. I loved the color of it though. I think he ran out of time and skipped some of the weaving he had planned. the weaving around the waist was way off too...made the model look preggers... hated the model's hair.

Laura - boring. great work and a great dress...if it had been the first time we'd seen it. I mean, seriously. she's an expert at these dresses and it makes me wonder if she's able to do anything else. think about it. haven't all her ventures into other types of dresses been failures?

Uli - loved it...I just think she's in the same spot as Laura. although, to me, her model and her picture were the best of the bunch.

Jeffrey - I actually loved the picture he turned in, but the dress fell flat on the runway. he is lucky to have his model...she is beyond gorgeous.

and what a copout to let all 4 go to fashion week.

mikeschmike
09-28-2006, 11:25 AM
I was so disappointed this week!

Jeffrey's "dress" looked like something Snow White would wear...if she was a crackhead.

I am not wasting the keystrokes to comment about Laura and Uli. I'm with Kors on this, if I see 12 flowy "party" dresses and 12 V-neck dresses with fur trim come down the runway for fashion week...I'll scream.

Michael didn't really find his inspiration this time. I think the strain is starting to affect the designers, and it really showed with Michael. The color was hot though.

To summarize, this week was three shades of crap and Michael.

I fear Jeffrey may win, which would be a shame since he's not as good as he thinks he is. I personally adore Laura, but I'm assuming they'll deem her too safe. ^^ Her stuff looked like it was executed the best. I honestly have no idea though who will win. I've been baffled and later surprised for three years in a row now.

I know. I'm torn; not because I love more than one, but because I don't really love any of them. as long as it isn't Uli, I'm happy.

^^Now that you mention it, and since I still have some surviving brain cells to actually remember back that far, I have been like that for the finales of seasons one and two.

Dear God, anybody but Wendy!

Please, anybody but Santino!

Not that Uli bitch...please no!

I like them too, don't get me wrong. I just don't think she's shown us enough variety and ability to win.

Yes...perhaps the show tonight will show a variation...though I am thankful that she didn't utilize pleather leggings in an effort to provide variety. If I do not have a clear favorite during the series, I usually await the endshow to review all garments... This season I have no clear favorite. I can tell you that the green striped dress with the zippered pad upfront is UGH...reminds me of I don't know a kangaroo pouch.

^ I'm not sure. Not Uli, all her stuff is too similar. I was a huge fan of Michael's until I caught a glimpse of those sequined pockets. Jeffrey's an A-hole & I don't usually like his designs, but I did like what I saw of his collection. I'm leaning towards Laura.

I agree with that!
Laura or Jeffrey.
Uli is a one trick pony.
AND..Michael pushed me over the edge with that damn shirt...lol!!!

The collections were close to what I expected. No huge surprises.

As for the winner...I'm speechless. It's just not right.

Her first 3 or 4 pieces were to die for....but then it got boring......

Michael's collection was just too ghetto and circusy (Is that a word?@#)

I loved Jeff's and Laura's collection, but I knew Jeff would win it because it was more fashion forward and wearable than Laura's.

I know. I was so disappointed. a couple of things were hot, but mostly not. I did like his last outfit.

this is true. I actually liked Jeffrey's and Laura's collection except that the stripes from Jeffrey made me cross-eyed and I started spitting up emu feathers after watching Laura's.

BTW....I LOVED that greenish jacket she originally had in her collection that Tim Gunn hated.

Wel...three seasons and only one bad choice. I guess that's not too bad. My opinion has improved since last night, when I was saying that this show and Heidi Klum were dead to me.

I did too! and I thought it was odd that he didn't like it since it strayed from her black and beige usual suspects.

Wel...three seasons and only one bad choice. I guess that's not too bad. My opinion has improved since last night, when I was saying that this show and Heidi Klum were dead to me.

That's harsh dude. I'm glad you've seen the light so that the Klum may live on in your soul.

My faves, from best to horrid:

1 - Laura
2 - Uli
3 - Jeffrey
4 - Michael :(

I was shocked to find that I LOVED Uli's collection! Shocked, I say. Yes, the color scheme was a bit...well, nude. But the designs were gorgeous! I only noticed 2 long flowy gowns and NO BRAIDED ROPES. That one blouse draped beautifully over the model, and the dresses were cool, young & fun. The stunning fabric that the last dress was made of completely made up for it being another long flowy Uli dress. Wow. The sunset reddish/orange against that shade of peacock blue? Wow. When I saw her things, I knew she'd be top 2 for sure.

Laura was my favorite. God, how utterly fabulous. Talk about classic glamour & elegance with a hint of modern style. The colors, the fabrics, the fit of everything. I agree that another pair of pants may have made a difference, or maybe a really modern piece to surprise them. However, then they would have told her that she wasn't true to her POV as a designer, or that it didn't flow with the rest of her collection. Whatever.

Jeffrey. Hmmmm. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. I kept thinking "what about knowing a woman's body & all that crap you guys bitched about all season?" Allison was booted off the show for making 1 unflattering garment, and he wins for making several for his final collection? OK, fine. I did like one of the shirts, the one with the straps kind of draped on her sides. All that red & white and green & white reminded me of something very childish - candy? Not sure. Something from my youth is in the back of my mind, it's bugging the **** out of me. I'm not pissed that he won really, but I do think Uli and Laura's collections were superior.

Michael, oh Michael. I don't know what to say. Why, perhaps. Why? Why wide gold lame' belts with half the outfits? Why the lace up collar on the other half? Why the tacky Bond girl bathing suit? Why was everything so shiny & bright & tacky? I think he was going for ghetto fabulous, but he ended up with ghetto fugly. Very, very disappointing.

Here's the EW review. Spot on, I say. I've taken the liberty of bolding my lol portions:

http://www.ew.com/ew/article/commentary/0,6115,1547975_3_0_,00.html

Well, you knew it was coming. In an ending that reflected Project Runway's taste for compromise, the contestant crowned as the winner —

Oh, sorry. That was the lead I'd prepared if Uli won. Let me rephrase that.

Holy crap. They gave it to Jeffrey!

Not since Richard Hatch in the first season of Survivor has a reality-show contestant been so reviled, so often, by so many (okay, by me) and emerged victorious. Jeffrey Sebelia, creator of clothes that are fascinating and hideous, provocative and repellent, fashion-forward and taste-backward, is the winner. Out of the 15 contestants who started this season, he's the only one who will get to follow in the footsteps of Jay McCarroll and Chloe Dao and perhaps go on to reach the height of success in the fashion industry: the chance to be a guest on future seasons of Project Runway.
At the beginning of this episode, I thought the fairest way to judge the collections would be to pretend I had never seen the show before and just look at the clothes, the clothes, the clothes. (That tedious ''he cheated/no he didn't'' nonsense isn't going to get any more play here.) With that as the goal, it wasn't a surprise — and it can't have been to any of you — that Michael finished a clear fourth. Although there were some strong pieces in his collection, the gold-plated Russian-Internet-hooker bathing suit alone would have knocked him out of the winner's circle, and besides that, it was just too much. Too much booty, too much hoochie, too many lace-up fronts and look-at-me silhouettes, and too much of a young man's belief that sexy and in-your-face are always the same thing. Since Michael himself admitted that he was on a journey to find out who he was as a designer, one can't blame the judges for pointing out that he still has some looking to do.

One can, however, blame the judges for their treatment of Laura. To my eyes, her lineup of sheer black lace, beads, fringe, feathers — even that Dynasty homage of a fur-shouldered gown that looked like a trophy wife had just slaughtered her prize and thrown it around her neck — was all luscious, boozy-glam fun. To quote Heidi, ''When you buy any of those dresses, you have them in your closet forever.'' So what put her out of contention? The tired old ''We don't see you growing'' argument. What's wrong with this line of thinking, aside from its slight whiff of ageism, is that Laura got to the finals by being herself and was then penalized for not turning into someone else. I thought she stretched plenty with several dresses that nobody could call old-lady clothes except in the fashion industry, where ''old'' means older than Veronica Mars.

That left Uli and Jeffrey, and as clear a choice as Project Runway has ever had. Uli was shrewd enough if not to grow, then to pretend to appear to grow, which on TV is the same thing. She kept her breezy-beachy style while for the most part shelving her wild prints in favor of a more urbane, upscale tan-and-silver palette. The clothes were uniformly attractive, but nothing that would make Nina Garcia squinch up her nose and say ''adorable!'' (Kudos, by the way, to Ms. Garcia, for being virtually the only person on Project Runway who never cries; she is the Clint Eastwood of Bravo.)
Jeffrey, by contrast, grew and grew and grew, in every direction at once. White polka dots on red? Check. Sexy striped halter dress? Check. Bizarre zipper-covered green-and-white frock? Check. Sexy blue minidress? Check. Body-widening practical joke of an open-fronted gown? Check.
So it was dogged, nervous Uli (''She's a worker,'' said thoughtful, temperate guest judge Fern Mallis, in praise so faint only dogs heard it) vs. Jeffrey, for whom every chance to make a dress is a trip to his own interior circus. And who deserved the win?

Jeffrey, of course. Come on. That was a great collection, maybe even because of some of its mistakes and excesses. Consistency is for the other 51 weeks of the year; Fashion Week, and fashion, is about beauty, but also about taking daring leaps, making grand gestures, creating fascinating tensions between colors and textures and fabrics and lengths, and expressing a vision, and this time, Jeffrey nailed it. While Uli stuck so closely to her script that the same brown-and-beige zebra-striped dress almost appeared to go by twice, Jeffrey's clothes flowed intriguingly into one another, and created exciting friction. Was that an iridescent raincoat over his red and white swimsuit, followed by the same fabric hidden under a gauzy baby-doll dress? And didn't the dots seem to morph elegantly into the series of striped dresses that followed?

Using cropped jackets, form-fitting pants, and sleek silhouettes to create a sense of continuity, and restraining his appetite for adding the one thing too many that always seemed to turn his clothes into punchlines during the season, Jeffrey managed to show off his ideas and his models. Of the four, he was the only one who seemed less interested in pleasing the judges than in being himself — and that's as good a criterion for picking a winner as any.

Is Jeffrey a jerk, or was it all in the editing? Beats me. Happily, Project Runway is not a personality contest, no matter how much fun it is to pretend otherwise until the finish line. I look forward to reading your take on his victory below, and offer humble thanks to all of you who have posted this season. You kept me on my toes, and made sure that — to quote Heidi one last time — I was neffer bort.
