Maybe it's because I've been away and am now back, but the signatures seem to be much larger than they used to be. I mean some are absolutely MASSIVE. When did this trend start?

I think it is the younger Ledgies- who want to identify themselves with more symbols and pics-
You know them "youngins...", has to be MORE of everything
:)

And speaking of that- I think it is time to change my Sig-

PS: Sigs. that I just love the best- ( In case anyone cares...)
Always changing but always tasteful-well thought out and just
breathtaking...Jasman Flowers aka Jason, aka Jazzy aka J aka ...

I love looking at everyone's signatures. granted, some are massive and that can get a little tedious, but I like how creative everyone is. I love MacMan's signatures and Eliud's...and I'm working on a new one as we speak.

Thanks Jazz... You change yours quite often which keeps it really interesting - and I especially like the fonts you've been using lately.

if these were my boards, i'd permanently ban anyone with a signature longer than half a mouse-roller's sweep!!!

SuzeQuze
07-05-2006, 07:36 AM
Yeah, any sig longer than a couple of inches starts to get tedious to move past. But if you have the type of mouse with the roller it isn't that bad to scroll past them but it is annoying. We don't have a rule about the size of signatures but I believe general netiquette advises against excessively large sigs.

There are some gorgeous sigs on here... but sometimes I do feel less is more and some are excessively long

Come to think of it, that'd be pretty fitting too.

It's not just the screen size of the sigs that is annoying - some of them have a large file size as well, especially some of the animations. Not fun when you're on dialup...

I'd love to see some friendly guidelines, especially about file and screen size. I mean - you can't post an attachment of more than 100K, but I had to block an animated sig (thru my browser) a few months ago that was nearly 1Meg. It's cool that I can block it on my end, but it still took more than 10 minutes to fully load before I *could* block it.

And I'm a sig fan, definitely - I find them beautiful and thought-provoking and often an insight into the person. I don't want them to go away. But I do wish people would be more thoughtful about them.

I guess it's subjective, what one considers "too large." I think anything over 300px in height and 500px in width is too large for a sig, but I think I'm in the minority there.

JazmenFlowers
07-06-2006, 10:42 AM
well, while some are large and it can be annoying sometimes, it never really bothers me that much, I mean, I like seeing what people can come up with. I hate all the dead, blank space in some...that's a waste, but if the sig picture is just larger than most, what's the big deal. now granted, having a HiRes pic from the NicksFix is not something I'm saying should be used as a sig pic.

I hate all the dead, blank space in some...that's a waste, that's what I hate, too. Jill's, for example, has a bunch of dead/blank space, so you wind up scrolling down through nothing instead of enjoying the sights.

But I've never seen a message board control design/presentation aspects of sigs & banners, so people pretty much just do whatever their little hearts want to do. Netiquette is virtually dead--it's all part of that "I care only about myself & what I want" attitude you find everywhere today.

Yeah, some people. But there have been dozens of others I've seen who, when the extremely tall sig situation was pointed out to them, just said, "I don't care whether you like it or not. I'm doing exactly what I want anyway & you can eat me."

So it's like, "Okay. Whatever. Enjoy yourself."

I guess what you consider "too big" for a sig pic is largely influenced by your screen resolution. If your res is 800x600, the sigs are going to seem much larger than if you're using 1024x768.

^that's not all that's to it, I think. It's also sigs that are ten times as large as the message above it?
Anyway, wasn't there a feature in your personal profile here where you can turn off showing everybody's sigs:shrug:

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for showing me that! Even though I have DSL, The Ledge is pretty sloooow, and I've always wondered if it was due to all the HUGE sigs. Don't wanna see em, don't need to see em. Waste of bandwidth, IMO.....

Well, I didn't say that's all there is to it. A lot of people have huge sigs by any standard, but your screen res is always going to affect what you're viewing.

Well things have been better....I got a new cell phone for free since Nextel lost my old one....and this one rings! But it was my mom's bf before and he keeps on teasing me that its his. And my mom called me and wanted to talk to him and he wouldnt give it back I was like 'you kno what just take it!' So I am kinda pissed off. But I an hoping my boyfreind answers his phone soon so we can go to the movies. I worked last night and did nothing but cross out part of a phone number and wrote the right number down.....I did about 400 of them....and there are 800 total! I need a vacation
