Some Velvet Morning

[dontlookdown]

I just discovered "Some Velvet Morning" by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood.
What an amazing song. I know Slowdive (who later became Mojave 3) covered it a few years ago -
but what I'm really wondering is -
does anyone know if Stevie was influenced by this song?

Step into the velvet of the morning....

It's got a really cool vibe - almost Leonard Cohen-like.

I think it's quite possible!

Stevie also sings "take your violet and blue mornings with you" at the end of the live version of Tom Petty's 'I need to know'

"Some Velvet Morning" is an interesting song... I have a soft spot for Nancy Sinatra. It's possible Stevie may have been familiar with the song and liked the imagery of a "velvet morning," but I can't see the inspiration going much farther that.
