The book was a fun read.
The book was a fun read.
Meh, it was alright. It was kind of fun and all, but I found the main character painfully unsympathetic. Still, the movie looks like fun, and anything with Meryl Streep is worth my time.

yeah, I've heard it was a pretty good movie. I read the book a few years ago. I read all those chick lit books.

Ok---if you read the book -the movie is VASTLY different.
Miranda is NOT the devil in the movie as she is in the book, in fact her movie character actually has a human side that one ends up actually liking.
Because I read the book before seeing the movie - I was pretty watchful for changes. I feel that they completely changed the main character as well as Miranda...and well I thought the movie could have been WAY better.
Still it was an ok movie - not the best, but Meryl was great (as usual).
Oh, but this is not a departure for Ms. Hathaway. It's still in the same stream of the PRincess Diaries role...if you want to talk about departure - her Brokeback Moutain role was most definitely that.
Anyway - if any of you who've read the book see this movie - I'd love to compare notes!
I saw it and thought it was cute. Anne Hathaway did a great job and Meryl goes without saying. Personally, though, the best part for me was the clothes. I found so many of the characters so shallow and heartless that the clothes, in the end, gave me the most pleasure.
And that sounds extremely superficial, but that's how it was. :sorry:

Ok---if you read the book -the movie is VASTLY different.I just now had a dream (afternoon nap) that I had either written or read a book (I can't remember) & I was supposed to be on Dr. Phil to discuss the book. So Dr. Phil starts asking me about the book & of course I had to BS my way out of it. However, I was able to BS my way the entire hourlong program of Dr. Phil, & no one in his audience caught on! Still, a nervewracking dream.
Anyway - if any of you who've read the book see this movie - I'd love to compare notes!Did you ever read Stendahl's "The Red & the Black"? I read that & then saw the movie & thought how sorta different they both were.

This thread is a bit old but I just saw the movie this week. I really liked. First time I see a funny movie where fashion world is interesting. Cause I saw Pret-a-porter but even though it got lot of stars it was too ridiculous.
But TDWP is a very good movie!

wow. I never followed up with my review. I like it. I thought it got really slow towards the end and I didn't like the end, but Meryl was fierce.

Yes the end was.. not dissapointing but could have been better. I expected a better human connection between Miranda and Andy, but since Miranda was a "devil", and now that I know the character in the original book is more bad and "unhuman" than in the movie, then I understand that end.

^^
And if the character had been anywhere near as bad in the book - there's no way in HELL that ending ever would have happened.
I hated the end and thought it was completely out of character for Miranda. Overall thougH I was disapointed with the whole movie because I had JUST read the book.
The book title is appropriate (the Devil) the movie - not so much, she was far from "devil".

Interesting..
I have not read the book, so I had no idea. But the end did make sense to me cause, sometimes people label their boss as a devil or ogre. But when you finally know the person, he/she is a human being like us.
So I expected more of that at the end, and there was no enough in my opinion. That's what actually was a bit dissapointing to me.
But to those who read the book, I see it was completely the opposite.

In the book you see NO humanity in Miranda at all. that movie scene with her upset over her divorce? NEVER would happen in the book - the character in the book was truly the devil - just awful...so I was expecting more of that from the film.
I don't think the film was bad...it just wasn't what I was expecting.
