I have only ever seen the mac live. I was wondering what is everyones fav/worst Stevie solo tour? I love my Bella Donns tour video and have heard stuff from OSOTM tour and Whole Lotta Trouble tour...they were not so great. I have also seen the Red Rocks video...very nasal but she was on drugs so we'll let her off.

I posted a similar thread, but it was only a least fav thread. I was born in '89, so my parents said they took me to itmespace, but i don't remember it. I remember SA on up, and ive seen many boots. I think her best tour was either Wild Heart, or Gold Dust. The worst was definitely Whole Lotta Trouble (Timespace.) She was so zonked out, and her wardrobe and hair were so horrendous and un-stevie-ish.

it was really good. Very different from what you see in the dance DVD

from what i can tell, the dance seems to be shot at a pretty small venue, cosidering the places that the mac usually plays.

What you see on the DVD and hear on the CD was completely set up for the purpose of releasing the DVD and CD. The tour was much more like what we saw on the SYW tour. Micks drums were heavier and Lindsey's guitars were more like the Lindsey we know.

David, what did you dislike about the TISL tour?
I think the shows were logy & exhausting. I thought the band was thudding & literalminded & had no character. They sounded like a thousand other bands with that blandly professional sound, like the bands that play for Sheryl Crow & Billy Joel & Elton John & Sarah McWhatsit. It's a really phony sound & a turnoff for me. I thought Stevie was dressed like the Bar Mitzvah boy's mother at the synagogue, with those sleeves that go halfway down her lower arms, like something middleaged women would wear to worship---except for those shoes & enough has been written about them so no need to repeat it here. Stevie sang without much color or life, & the whole sound just took on a droning quality to me. No color, no personal stamp, & certainly nothing visionary. It was all just "professional" in the bad sense.
She did some stuff on TV that year, like Blockbuster & Rosie, which I really liked. I especially liked her hair & the sound of her speaking voice on Rosie. I was looking forward to seeing & hearing those elements at the concerts, but they weren't there.

I think that statement is a bit more accurate for the mirror tour. esp. how they danced the cha-cha at the beginning of the way 2 elctronified intro to edge. but i think they were good on the tisl tour, imo.

Interesting. Sometimes I'm shocked at what some people dislike around here, but then I remember that I'm learning my FM history from 2005-back whereas many around here have followed it for decades. LIB, for instance, takes a lot of heat around here, but it holds a special place in my mind because it was the first FM performance I ever saw. Now that I've become more versed in boots of past tours, I can understand how it would be a letdown (the exclusion of "Oh Well" is pretty disappointing in itself).
Did you go to any of the 2005 shows?

Interesting. Sometimes I'm shocked at what some people dislike around here, but then I remember that I'm learning my FM history from 2005-back whereas many around here have followed it for decades.Yeah that must play some big part in our tastes: when were we first exposed to something? did we go at it chronologically or asynchronously? did we hear stevie as a young kid? which stevie did we hear as a young kid? do we associate a certain stevie with good memories? with bad memories? etc.
I once had an argument with the pop music critic at the paper over which was the better version of "Walk a Thin Line"--on Tusk or on The Visitor. I said the former was much more interesting & he thought the former was an embarrassment & derivative of certain strains of brit pop at the time. I told him the Tusk version was the one I heard first, & he said the Visitor version was the one he heard first.
Did you go to any of the 2005 shows?Nope, but I have two of them on DVD: Nokia (?) & Los Angeles. the only thing I really sort of enjoyed was Circle Dance because stevie didn't have to live up to my expectations of "stevie" -- instead she could just be melanie or bonnie raitt or even just a wedding singer.

I've never heard anything off The Visitor, although I knew it includes another version of WATL. Would ebay be my best bet to get ahold of it?
I can understand why Stevie's "professional" & polished band would be a disappointment to someone who experienced the early days of her career. Since I never saw that firsthand, I really appreciate the fact that I can still see her in person.
I think my favorite era of Stevie will always be from The Dance, because I can still remember being 13 and hearing Silver Springs on the radio and being completely blown away. It was a long time before I made the connection between that and her other radio staples that I had heard hundreds of times before.

Since I never saw that firsthand, I really appreciate the fact that I can still see her in person.Well I think I've always been disappointed in the bland professionalism of all her solo bands. They have all always struck me as so impersonal--a bunch of guys who don't care whether they're playing with her or with someone else. It's just a gig to them. They have no obsessions with regard to her material; they don't fixate on her licks, twisting them & kneading them into profound new perspectives of dated material.
She always went the session player route each & every time out. This was a mistake, I say--not exactly a commercial mistake but an aesthetic mistake.
Imagine if she had her own unique band all this time? Imagine a group of players & singers she could have called her own from 1981 to the present, a band that knew itself inside & out, a band that rivalled the Talking Heads & Fleetwood Mac itself for quirky, tortured pop. True soul--that's what's missing from these guys. They were the finest technicians in the world--Russ Kunkel, Roy Bittan, Bob Glaub, Carlos Rios, Don Boyette, Marty Grebb--but they were no more musically devoted to her material than they were to every other artist they supported on tour.

I wasn't a member of The Ledge then. Well, actually I was only a lurker of The Ledge back then. I liked the album way more than I did the concert. She had JUST recovered from a bad upper respiratory infection. She had cancelled a few shows prior to mine (mine- heh), so obviously she wasn't feeling well. But every review (on the Nicks Fix, I think) was people going ga-ga over how great she was and I was like, "huh?" I thought her eyes looked dead and her body language was awful. I was really disappointed, BUT- her voice was in pretty great form, considering.

Im sure Stevie did "Rhiannon" on the OSOTM tour :shrug:I'm not the big OSOTM tour aficionado, but there was no Rhiannon at the Northern CA shows I saw or on the audience recordings I've heard. I don't think Rhiannon was in the set that year. In fact, I think there was even a later interview where Stevie admits to having given Rhiannon a "rest" or something that year.
Fleetwood Mac did Rhiannon a bunch of times in October & early November 1987, but later in November, December & the following spring, they tossed it out of the set in Europe.
I think '88 & '89 are the only two touring years with no Rhiannon, & '87 had a limited number of Rhiannons.

My first tour was OSOTM. I was so excited to see her that I didn't feel that her performance was lacking. I have also enjoyed each subsequent tour.
In hindsight, some of these tours had some poor moments. Looking at or listening to some of the performances one can notice how listless some shows were. It also depends at which point you see her during these tours because of sickness, weight gain, fatigue, hip/ankle problems, boots/reeboks, etc.
That being said I loved the TISL show the best. I saw her in Chicago before the sickness and the 9/11 tragedy. This show also was before she dropped several songs and Sheryl was there too. I know that many people don't like Sheryl, but I have always loved her music from the beginning. Once her love of Stevie was revealed I liked her even more.
Anyway, I don't know if the TISL show is more special because I have a video of the Chicago show that I watch and love. I also think that it has one of the best Stand Back performances. There may be stronger vocal performances but visually it was great. Just ignore the shoes. During the last 2 minutes of the song she did a mike stand pull back/semi-crouch, a great "TAAAAAAAKE ME HOME", a high kick, and she danced off and launched into her twirls. You can hear how excited the crowd is and I am part of that crowd.
Stevie also seemed very excited and energized. She was nervous about the new songs but as usual, when she has one of her buddies on stage with her, she was very animated and hyped up.

I saw an excellent TISL show too... one of the early shows, like you. I thought it was a really really great show. I guess the shows started to go downhill in August.
My first tour was OSOTM. I was so excited to see her that I didn't feel that her performance was lacking. I have also enjoyed each subsequent tour.

I have to say..OSOTM was the worst for me..and I was there for all of them!
Street Angel was a close second......
Really? Granted, I didn't see her in person, so I'm basing all of my opinion of the multiple bootlegs audio & videos I have. But I thought the Street Angel tour rocked! She seemed to be in great voice, esp. after the disappointing '89 & '91 tours.
Was it the fact that she was overweight that you didn't like? Or the setlist? Or did you really not like her vocals? Just curious.

I thought the SA tour rocked 2! She was awesome, and had even lost a little bit of weight since the letterman show.

Hi Paula!
I just felt she lacked the energy and inspiration I had come to know and love.
Her voice had improved a bit..but not much. I really thought Street Angel would be her last Tour..that she was down for the count. Thank god she got some rest..pulled it together and did The Dance. Between 87-97, I felt like we lost her essence for about 10 years! I always loved and supported her and defended her to the death..but those were about 10 years of darkness that she and we will never get back..just my opinion. I just love her cleaner vocals..not straining..not singing an octave lower. IMO.
Stevie to me is a free spirit....not chained down like it seemed in 87-97.

The "87" and "90" Rhiannons were hardly chained down. I give her a lot of credit, considering the condition she was in at the time, in 1990 for the effort she put into Rhiannon at the end. The 87 Rhiannons were simply incredible......

I know what you're saying. Personally, I feel her worst touring years were 87 - 91 (and I'm not a huge fan of the latter part of the RAL tour either - unbridled energy is one thing, totally "out of it" is quite another.) I thought 94 was a huge comeback for her touring-wise, especially vocally. Even though she was singing in a lower range, her voice was really powerful. So I agree with you to a point, but I think she became "unchained" again in 94 as opposed to 97.

I never did post my favorite & least favorite, did I?
Favorites:
White Wing Dove: Very new, very exciting, incredible vocals, she looked stunning, plus the inclusion of Bella Donna & Angel.
Enchanted: Spot on vocals, seemed so happy, and best setlist EVER.
Least:
Timespace: Yes, the setlist was good but she sounded & looked like ****. :sorry: Flat one night, just plain out of tune the next. Yuck.
RAL (later shows): At the start of the tour, she was wild & crazy but still actually singing, looked good. By the end, she was screeching & rambling, but sounded awful & looked tired.

I response to her lower voice, I really like her current vocals. Strong, powerful, and much more in control. Personally, I think that she can sing higher than she duz, but its a lack of confidence, and she doesnt wanna start screaching in a live concert. i think shez getting a lot of the energy she lost back. Like the gold dust tour, was a huge improvement from the syw tour. and the petty tour was kick-ass!

My favorite Stevie solo tour is actually a tie between WH and RAL. The adlibbing and energy she put into the performances on those two tours was amazing.
As for mosted hated, TISL with WLT coming in a close second. With TISL it seemed she had absolutely no energy, and just wasn't trying. With WLT, way too much Klonopin, lacking in performance, and horrible costumes.
As for the Mac, my favorite is Tusk, with Mirage coming in a close second. Most hated would be BTM folowed by Tango and SYW. Lindsey was the only redeeming factor of the SYW concert I went to, which is probably one of the main reasons I've gotten more into his music.

BLASTPHEMY!!! As much as I love 'Stevie solo'...there is more variety in the mac..there are 3 very different singers; each unique in their voice and style of writing and no album sounds the same. Too much Stevie would get annoying and I'd have to stop playing her for a while but when I listen to a Fleetwood Mac album, there is a lot of variety. You can never really have too much mac.

I could give a rat's ass about anyone's TASTES...but, it is MUCH MORE than "belief" that Fleetwood Mac had already dumped being a "blues band" 5 years BEFORE Lindsey & Stevie joined...that is FACT. It's the FACTS, when ignored, that irk me.

It's the FACTS, when ignored, that irk me. Sure, facts are facts. IMO the harsh way you just wielded such was not necessary. I am sorry people give you a hard time when you are expressing the "facts"...maybe said facts would go down smoother if you were level in presenting them, or offered perhaps a historical link? But, this is all my opinion only. You are obviously a very passionate person which is cool. I think it would be cooler if we all came to the understanding that the FM of today wouldn't be without the FM of yesterday. Take care. :wavey:

she better on the Dance tour than she had in 15 years!

RAL/Timespace tie for worst...
RAL because she sounds like she has a clothes pin over her nose. and she mostly screechd and blotched out her songs...
