Wow, almost all of those are good. The thing with Stevie is, you have to get the mouth right. I don't/can't draw, but I notice when i see drawings that aren't as good, it's the mouth that does it.
My favorite is the fourth one on the first group - with the blue lamp. It's a pretty vague drawing, but even with so little exact lining the mouth is right - and I like the vibe. The color ones are my least favorite. The third and fifth ones in post number 5 are also exceptional to me.
That was neat, thanks.

Lovely stuff ~ And so strange that just last night I was wondering if anyone on the Ledge was a fanartist... Spooky!

Thanks!

I see what you mean about the mouth, Amber. I think the second one in the first group may have gotten the mouth right too, but the lingerie, chess board and cheese puff bag look all wrong.:D
Some of the illustrations look like those done by Johanna, of "Johanna's Artwork inspired by Stevie Nicks (http://www.johannas-art.com/MyArtworkInspiredByStevieNicks.htm)
Thanks for posting these, GypsyAngels

Something about Stevie-inspired art (or art inspired by any famous person, really) really creeps me out. Some of these are pretty good, but I have some mental block against enjoying them. dunno why.

yeah, some of them got the mouth right, but are so very wrong in other ways. I don't really enjoy Johanna, I have to say.
Carrie - I see what you mean. But I guess if you are someone who draws, then it probably seems natural. (my apologies if you are someone who draws, and I am completely off base).
When Trackie submitted her Stevie drawing for the contest, she was all "Oh, I just drew that while I was watching TV.". So maybe it is slightly less creepy than we would imagine. With the set above, some of them are normal, and the creepy ones are pretty obvious, so that is good.

I don't care for Johanna's art either, and I don't actually care for realistic portraits in general anyway. I find it touching (and, yes, sometimes creepy) though, to see all of the work people have put into trying to draw her. The imagined outfits and activities for the illustrated Stevie are too much like fanfiction for me.

Yeah. But otherwise they would be cheesily cool if they weren't Stevie. You know, because they look like scenes from Heavy Metal magazine?
I don't usually like realistic portraits at all (add to that bad realistic portraits of animals) but some of these black and white ones show skill that I find pleasing - because they are just pencil or pen and ink, they lack the garish quality of the colored ones. For the most part. A couple of the black ones I still don't like because Stevie is drawn innacurately. For instance - I prefer the ones with weird scenery that are drawn well to the ones that don't have weird scenery but are drawn badly. A couple of the weird ones, the scenery is actually riveting and imaginative.

Are artists that sketch famous people necessarily creepy? I mean, by definition? I hadn't heard that. I usually just think they are creepy if that person is all they draw, or the, um, circumstances they drew the famous person in are inherently creepy. You know the ones.

That's true, I can appreciate the Frank Frazetta D&D angle.

The Johanna lady, is skilled, for instance, but I don't care for the palette she favors. I agree that skill with bad scenery, beats poor rendering with accurate/believable scenery.

Yes, yes they are, to me. I am ruling out art sutdents and high school students practicing by drawing their favorite singer or actor. I don't have a cogent argument for why I think it might be inherently creepy to spend your life sketching famous people. I have tried to explain, and erased all my explanations.
I don't care for wax figures, and caricature is horrifying to me. I do enjoy court sketches, though.

Well, yes, spending your life sketching famous people. That is what I meant by "all they draw". That strikes me as somewhat creepy. But if an artist who does other stuff randomly cranks out some drawings of Stevie as well (I mean, not totally randomly, they're probably fans) that seems fine.

The Office, British version, was just on PBS - and the last lines of the show centered around Fleetwood Mac. Pretty cool. There was an office party, and a bunch of guys were talking about sex in some capacity, I think the guys were ribbing this one guy. And then someone said "how bout fleetwood mac?" (I wasn't paying close attention until that point, so I don't know all the specifics) and he goes "I'd get a few drinks in me, bend the three of them over - the drummer, that singer, and the violin player ( ) drop trow, and have my way with all of them!" at the same time making the "bend someone over and hump them" gestures.  And the whoooole office party gets silent and stares at him like he is a total freak.
It just occurred to me that probably everyone else has seen that episode of The Office. Oh, well, I just started watching.

My first long-time boyfriend. We had all of the issues of heavy metal. He had throwing knives, and a D&D character named after a hobbit. I worked at the Ren Faire, so it all fit nicely.
Oh! I made a dirty joke:o - must be punch drunk, or it was the Office episode you described :^)

typo of the hour="sutdents"

Mine wasn't quite like that, but ditto on heavy metal, and he played Magic. Did D&D when he was young. :distress:

We would not have gone to the Ren Faire.

He was okay, he was a fisherman and liked to do fun things outside.
He liked good punk bands and the bands related to those bands. He was gone several months of the year.

Yours sounds a little more dorky... :p

Count me in as one who doesn't enjoy Johanna's work. :blob1:

I'm definitely not someone who draws; I have absolutely no visual artistic ability. So you're right, it might seem more natural if I were. I think my lack of ability in that area contributes to my diminutive interest in art in genera. I just don't "get" it, and I hate pretending that I can. That's not the only reason I dislike it, since I also dislike fanfic, and I am fairly well-versed in Lit. Anyway. There are varying levels of creepiness, too, with these drawings, as you said. It's not just - oh, you drew Stevie? FREAK! The ones that are simple and sweet are just that, but the ones where she's in creepy lingerie and in weird poses just seem weird and I dunno ... disrespectful? Fetishistic.

Anyway, my "fav" of those that were posted is the one that includes the "castle of candy." I loled.

I'm not into Johanna's Stevie pictures either but she also does other stuff. She has fairies and also some cat pictures which I actually bought one cause I thought the cat was really cute.
