E. Pierce Marshall, Who Feuded With Anna Nicole Smith Over Father's Oil Fortune, Dies at 67

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2113273

DALLAS Jun 23, 2006 (AP)— E. Pierce Marshall, who feuded for years with former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith over his father's oil fortune, has died, his spokesman said Friday. He was 67.

Marshall died unexpectedly Tuesday evening in the Dallas area from a brief and extremely aggressive infection, the family said in a written statement released through spokesman David Margulies. He declined to provide additional details.

"The family would politely request that their privacy be respected during this extremely difficult time as they grapple with this devastating loss," the statement said.

Smith married Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II in 1994, when she was 26 and he was 89. He died the following year. Since then, E. Pierce Marshall has been locked in a legal battle over her entitlement to the estate.

The U.S. Supreme Court last month revived former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith's pursuit of her late husband's oil fortune, ruling Monday that the one-time stripper deserves another day in court.

The case has had twists and turns. Smith won a $474 million judgment, which was cut to about $89 million and eventually reduced to zero.

"Mr. Marshall leaves behind a legacy of being, first and foremost, a remarkable husband, father and grandfather, a successful business visionary and a man of unrivaled perseverance and principle," the Margulies statement said.

I was wondering that myself. I would guess that due to recent developments in her case, it would have to be settled before Mr. Marshall's will can be executed.

His estate could probably continue to contest her receipt of the money, because it was started before his death, but I am not absolutely sure.

What I am sure of, is that this is a big mess that is complicated by his death. If his father's estate is still tied up in litigation, his estate will still be open until the original case is resolved.

His estate likely could continue the suit pending against Anna Anna - fabulous Anna - Anna Nicole.

Having said that, the recent Sup. Ct. decision in favor of Federal Jurisdiction in this case along with perhaps the more attenuated heirs' desire to get the remaining money (if any) and not spend another $100,000 or more on legal fees - suggests the dropping of the suit or some sort of favorable settlement.

If they choose to continue this matter - I believe Anna N. must reestablish her case in the Calif. Bankruptcy Court - though I cannot remember the exact facts, etc. If so, that is a lengthy process.

Her credibility at the trial was called into question because of the servant's testimony and her own actions in that she was gone from him for long periods of time, etc. Plus, she was a hooker and they usually have credibility problems - though I tend to love them  Finally, there was no established independent evidence that the old geezer actually intended her to have the money.

As far as what she had to do for it, a card laid is a card played. She knew what she was getting into and he showered her with millions of dollars in gifts  Plus, she says she loved him. So, why should you assume she was burdened by his affection - are you questioning her credibility there, which would be ironic

I'm pretty sure she would have been burdened by having to slob on a shriveled-up, 85 year-old sh____. Doesn't sound very appetizing to me! Although, dear Jason, I'm sure your response to this comment will be "don't knock it 'til you've tried it!" ;)

Speaking of blondes with reputations, I watched that Britney dateline interview. I am not fan of her music, but she didn't strike me as the nightmare train wreck everyone is saying she is. She seems to be evolving into a pretty tough cookie.

I'm not understanding why you guys are thinking she should get some cash out of this.

I don't necessarily agree with the greed that's coming from the family's side, but I also don't understand how some gold-digging, drugged out whore who basically prostituted herself to an octegenarian should get anything. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't she not in his will at all and it ended up being a matter of "he said, she said" plus a video account where Anna is sitting on the old man's lap and cooing about "being taken care of"?

Not only does Anna Nicole have zero credibility, but obviously the old man was just using her as a hooker. But, it was his money to do with as he pleased- so, I guess if he wanted her to have cash, it's his prerogative. If William Randolph Hearst could own Marion Davies as a hooker, why not Marshall??

Come on, Jason.... jeezus!!! Anna Nicole is a shining example of the 21st century feminist movement! This is a travesty. A young, scrappy woman works hard- toiling away in college- getting her degrees while working three jobs to support herself and her young child. After becoming a successful businesswoman, she meats, oops, meets the man of her dreams- the man she waited her entire life to meet. The man she would faithfully spend the rest of her days with, and then he ups and dies on her. Heartbroken, the only thing she could think of in her grief was his $500,000,000.00. It's a tragedy to see someone lose the love of their life and then have that relationship dragged through the muck and the media because of some greedy, undeserving son who only spent 60 years of his life with his dad.

Women of the world take note! If you want some quick cash, just blow some old man that's on the verge of dying- it's waaaaaaay easier than working for it, considering that most old men can only last for about 20 seconds or so.

And - let me state for the record, I would marry any 90 + year old billionaire that asked me - only I would get that will in writing

Me, too. With that vast, vast, vast fortune, they should have just settled and given her 89 mil or whatever. If she would have settled. I heard they had a bad relationship though. Maybe the old man and Jr. hated each other . If they can dig up proof that old Marshall wanted Anna to have the money then I guess she gets it. Well, God Bless America. Of course that is a way to get money. It always has been. People have different kinds of relationships. As judgemental as I am, I don't really have anything to say about the situation except she should have demanded a buy out clause of some sort. Evidently she was too dumb or not being honest with him. It was a business arrangement. Most marriages are. I mean, hey, if I am alone and elderly and have enough money, I will happily buy myself a hot little hunk of guy to hang out with for my last years. Yep. I have no problem whatsoever with business arrangements and that whole deal. Although my point was more that it's not a very good role model for those who would like to have self-esteem and self-worth. It's basically the "we were in love" routine part that gets me.

It's fine Anna if you're a whore- that's cool and you're working it and the whole deal. Just don't act like you were "in a relationship" or "in love" or any of that crap. If you think you're entitled to some cash because you screwed around with an old man every once in awhile, you're still on the drugs you claim to have ditched.

I didnt spin anything. my meaning was quite plain, the old goat was thrilled to death to have a pretty young thing on his arm and performing other duties as assigned. She, for her part, was all he expected her to be. I dont think anyone has any illusions about what sort of "glue" held that relationship together.
