I love sports and especially baseball, but when I read this story it really just made me so mad. Brett Myers is a pitcher for the Philadelphia Philles baseball team, and he was arrested last night for hitting his wife and pulling her hair near Fenway Park in Boston. He posted bail, and will probably pitch tonight. The guys should be suspended for at least 10-20 games. There's no call for this, and I think this sort of thing reinforces SOME athletes that it's ok to assault their spouse.:(

I'm a Phillies fan & everything that can go wrong this season is going wrong. He's the only Phillies starting pitcher who's pitched half way decent this season. Myers is definitely a bit of a hot head, so this doesn't exactly shock me. He's actually supposed to pitch tomorrow. I don't know if he will. I don't know if he should be suspended, but he should be prosecuted for spousal abuse. This article was posted on a local Philly website. It's pretty scary, what he did to his wife. There were witnesses to the whole thing.

If they don't suspend him then I think they are really sending a message about how they feel about domestic violence.:distress:

Believe it or not, last year another Phillies player, Jason Michaels was arrested for assaulting a police officer. He wasn't suspended. He eventually got off on probation. The police union in Philly was very upset. So I don't know what the team willl do this time. Sadly, alot of these sports teams look the other way in these kinds of cases. And, Myers has been their best pitcher this season. The last I heard, he's still going to start Saturday evening against Schilling & the Red Sox.

That's awful. I understand the whole innocent until proven guilty thing but in the case there were plenty of witnesses who saw this guy beating the tar out of his wife. If he does pitch at Fenway tomorrow night, I can't imagine he will get a very warm reception.

I agree. He needs to be pulled out. I'm a Philly girl and I know we need him but it would be sending out the wrong message if he gets by.

There is NO excuse for a man to hit a woman...none at all.

A professional athelete beating up a woman ? Sheesh. Next you're gonna tell me that a professional athlete has illegitimate kids and does drugs.
Say it ain't so !

They must have gotten into an argument or something?
