Stevie's songs with Tom are way more 'rockin'. I like her duets with Tom more too.

And since I've never talked to you before, welcome to the boards! :D :wavey:

For me there's absolutely no comparison what so ever. Tom is a hundred times more awesome than Don. Period. Don is so boring. Most of his songs are pleasant enough but rather dull whereas Tom's songs rock and kick ass plus Tom seems to have more of a sense of humor.

I think Stevie just has more musical chemistry with Petty although I did love her duets with Henley on New York Minute and Hotel California.Remember the different ways that she became involved with both men too.Henley pursued her romantically and she pursued Petty musically.

I think she was way more alive with tom, and that there was a better atmosphere with him.

No question Tom is a better showman. He plays to the crowd and really seems to enjoy himself, which helps the energy level of the crowd. Stevie, as a result, seems to have much more fun. I personally had more fun and enjoyed the entire show much more with Tom. JMO

I'm afraid I have no real opinion on either of them and therefore have nothing to add to this conversation.
Apart from saying that I love the fairy pic!! Is it your own?

They're both great songwriters in different ways, though Tom is more prolific and has a style that is more fun. Stevie is better to see with Tom, for my money. Don is dull live, in terms of activity. No arguing with his pitch perfect singing and well preserved voice, but he is a lug onstage. Tom is a big old party, and I would prefer him as a drinking buddy.

Being a fan of the Eagles , it was a dream come true for me...to see both of my favorite singers in the same concert. I think that the Henley Nicks Tour, is more dear to me because it was like two concerts in one...and you couldnt beat the price for a three hour concert....

As for the Nicks/Petty Concerts, Would have love to have gone...as I really just discovered Petty...Stevie Was much more at ease. Don is a perfectionist, and I think that Stevie was too much on edge and was being more professional, but with Petty it was much more of a easy going kind of a concert...so i guess its more or less a tie...

And seeing him on Tuesday didn't really change my mind.
I think he puts on a great show for his fans but his music doesn't do much for me.
Having said that--and probably because of that--I absolutely am more of a Stevie-Don person. Stevie was singing mostly her songs with Don (with a few notable exceptions--and those exceptions were pretty darned good choices). So, if the "wow" factor is not there with Don as a performer, the beauty of the words and music is just more powerful in this combo, in my opinion.
But, I'm not a big time rock lover. I love more of the slower, prettier stuff and that could explain it all.
Of course, I will play totally dirty now and say I don't much care about the fun factor of performing for the performer...there is nothing like Stevie with the Mac;-)

Well, there ya go. It doesn't appear to me that Stevie is having much fun at all when she is with FM onstage. Other than during SB, that is. And knowing that the Lindsey drama is 80% theatre anyway, I prefer her on her own or with other people.

I went to many SYW concerts and honestly only felt she was NOT enjoying herself one time--in Holmdel, and she was sick that day and struggling. I thought that was remarkable for a tour that lasted as long as it did. I made my snarky comment in response to the way other people interpreted her dealings with FM--not so much in response to the way I perceived it. But, we all color our own worlds with our own crayons, I guess.

I was very happy to see her again this week and consider it a bonus during a summer when I didn't expect to see her at all. Would I like to see her do only these types of things? No. Not at all. I care about Stevie's music, first and foremost. I want her major focus to be singing her own songs. But these appearances are nice between the major concerts.

I think if we're talking about purely voices, Don Henley has a much better voice than Tom Petty does. If we're talking about the quality of their songs and their musicianship, I think it's essentially a wash (apples and oranges comparison). If we're talking about dynamic stage presence, Petty has that in spades over Henley.

As for La Nicks with either one, both are lots of fun for us to see La Nicks with. Then again, I'd probably enjoy it if I saw Stevie perform "My Little Saviour" with Jesse Kamp as long as our girl was getting into her performance.

I agree with those saying Don has the most manicured performance--the truest sound; however, having seen Tom & Stevie together this go round, Tom has the best ROCK'IN show. I'd be up for a Stevie & Friends show again with the original Bella Donna touring band as back up. Benmont is a powerhouse. Mike Campbell should be added to the ticket as well. If Petty really does plan to spend some time off the road writing a new album, maybe Stevie can snagg 'em for a while. Sure, invite Jesse for a song.

I may be in the minority but I much prefered the Two Voices tour over the Petty colaboration. I totally agree that Tom is a more prolific artist and has toured steadily over the years poromting new material where as Don has gone the way of the nostalgia act touring just for the money. However seeing two different sets of good solid material and hearing them sing togther on some of their classics was awesome!!!

Absolutely! I, too, like Stevie with Tom better but I must say (and I'm probably in the minority here) I loved the Don/Stevie version of Gold Dust Woman. When he sang it gave Stevie a chance to do some great dancing, etc. And I loved their dance in the end and her spin. Very cool!!

I went to many SYW concerts and honestly only felt she was NOT enjoying herself one time--in Holmdel, and she was sick that day and struggling. She was having a miserable time in Anaheim at the Pond on whatever-it-was 2003. She was as vacant, glazed & distant as I ever remember seeing her in person. It was as if the surgical staff were waiting for the anesthesia to kick in.

Even Buckingham gave up on her halfway through.

I vote TP, but mainly wanted to post this pic that is on Pollstar's home page today from Bonnaroo and didn't think it was worth its own thread.

Personally I prefer Tom Petty, his music is closer to my tastes and Stevie seemed so happy and rocking in the concerts together. Moreover they did Insider :D , and that was an incredible gift. But I have to say that after having ignored The Eagles efforts for years, I developed more interest for their music and Don Henley during his tour with Stevie. I loved their version of Hotel California, Circle Dance and New York Minute. I even liked a lot Gold Dust Woman.

Anyway, I'd be also happy to see Stevie with Fleetwood Mac, but only if Jimmy Carter would negotiate before the tour on the setlist (Storms has to be a must), timetables, wardrobe's freedom, tour's length, Lindsey's speeches, and some other particulars.

Tom Petty, definitely. While I like The Eagles and their music, along with much of Don's solo work, I think Stevie and Tom mesh better together as far as vocals, and Tom seems to bring out the best in her...on recordings, and live. Plus, he rocks!

I agree that she has had much more fun with both Don and Tom than she did with Lindsey on the SYW tour. They bring out a lighter, more relaxed side to her that I so love to see. For me, SYW was about Lindsey--it was his show and she let him have it. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes that led her to be so subdued and less-than-inspired, but Lindsey was so interactive and enjoying himself so much that I almost didn't pay any attention to her.

Having said that, I prefer Stevie's colaborations with Tom. They've done such beautiful songs together and Tom is so much more vibrant on stage than Don is.

No way. I can't stand Don's high-pitched, whiney, straining voice. Blech. Tom Petty rocks my world, and I LOVE his voice--when it's not beautifully melodic and heartbreaking, it's deep, sultry and swampy! Sure Tom's voice is unconventional, but that's what's so great about it! And, like Stevie's, it's unmistakeable when you hear it .

I saw 15 SYW shows and the only one where it felt like she was not enjoying herself was Holmdel. She was definately in great spirits at the Garden, the 2 Staples center shows, Concord, Jones Beach, MCI, Bridgeport, Atlantic City etc.
