What are everyone's feelings about this song? Personally, I like it. I would have liked it a whole lot more if it had've replaced "Welcome to the Room...Sara" on TITN but thats just me...

Yes. I like it. Not my favourite and I don't think it belongs on Greatest Hits but it's good.

I can't stand "No Questions Asked". I think they should have gone with "Paper Doll" on The Greatest Hits album instead. "Paper Doll" is a far better song, in my opinion.

I feel that it's not so much the song as it is the production.

I love it as I love the majority of songs Stevie has recorded

"Well I See Him, I Feel Him, Theres an Intenseness in Him, In His Eyes..."

I love the lyrics, but yes the production is a little hollow, as are the majority of songs recorded from the 88-90 period for Stevie/FM.

The general consensus about this song however is that it is not a great song :(

This is in my top 5 FM songs.

I love the opening line(s). Rarely do I find Stevie songs 'sexy', but I think this one is. It never fails to put a smile on my face.

Was this really possible? Was this song a leftover from that album?

You can't put a song on an album if the song hasn't been written yet.
Was this really possible? Was this song a leftover from that album?
Actually, no. It was recorded after the end of the Tango tour; so there was no possible way it could've ended up on TitN. If anything, they should've just bypassed that ill-timed "Greatest Hits" album and recorded a FULL album of new material with the new lineup. "As Long As You Follow" & "Paper Doll" were both good starts on the new album...then pfffft! a friggin' "Greatest Hits" album.

I actually really like "No Questions Asked" (though I liked it much more in the early days of my fandom. Before I saw the light and dropped the whole chiffonhead/shipper thing. :D )

However, I also really like "Welcome to the Room, Sara" so I'm glad that we got both and none replaced the other.

"Paper Doll" on the other hand, grates on my nerves.

I've been listening to "The Second Time" a lot lately, trying to figure out what makes it so bad (yeah, I'm a masochist ...). I don't think it can be that it's a bad song, since the melody itself is so simple, but Stevie's voice sounds a bagpipe.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I really like No Question Asked.

Bagpipe, that's an interesting comparison. I always just likened her voice on that to a piss-poor Bob Dylan impression.

OMG How can you NOT like 'The Second Time'. It's a great ending to a great album. Not the best FM album BY FAR, but still a great one. I heven't heard Paper Doll...is it one that was only available on 'The Chain' boxsett? I never bothered with that - I could never afford it.

I'll give you the 'great album' part of this statement, since Behind the Mask is one of my favorites, but great song? Not by a long shot.

Yes, as far as I know, "Paper Doll" was only released as part of "The Chain."

Most people round here hate The Second Time (one of the worst Stevie vocals among other things), I've actually only seen a couple of other people who claim to like it even among Stevie's hardcore fans.

Ahhh thats just odd. I love all four of Stevie's song from Behind the Mask (Love is Dangerous, Affairs of the Heart, Freedom, The Second Time), "Freedom" being my favourite with "Love is Dangerous" coming in at a close second. The only song I don't like on BTM is 'Hard Feelings'

Yeah... you might want to invest in a dictionary. When I said that I am "decidedly not a Stevie fan anymore," that does not mean that I just woke up one day and thought to myself "I don't like her anymore." "Decidedly" means "unmistakably" or "unquestionably" and has nothing to do with an actual conscious decision. I did sort of drift away, beginning with "Crystal" from the Practical Magic Soundtrack. Trouble in Shangri La was the final nail in the coffin.

I like the song itself, but I don't think it's Stevie's best vocal performance. If she had recorded it in 1980, as opposed to 1990, it would probably be considered by many to be a classic.I have always liked this song on paper. It's a well-written song with interesting aspects both musical & lyrical. I can tell that the chord progression is assuredly Rick's but the words are Stevie's. Stevie has never in her life used the dominant 7th in quite this way, & Rick doesn't write lines like "Do you remember when/The angels sang?"

I would go to something like Night of a Million Stevie Weirdos if there were fewer performances of warhorses like "Stand Back" & more performances of or attempts at things like "Second Time"--I like the fresh perspective & the odd attempt. That's why I don't understand that aspect of those shows: you'd think of all places where you could expect a little off-the-beaten-path stuff, it would be a gathering of weird Stevie fans. Look at Jazzman, for example. He sang a great song that you don't often hear people try. But too many of the other acts went right for the predictable. I wouldn't be interested in a noisy night of Stand Back & Edge of Seventeen & Gypsy in perpetual rotation.

It has SO much passion - I can't believe you don't hear it. "Street Angel" is a prime example of Stevie minus the passion for her music, and there is a huge difference in the quality of those two albums...

It's negative, it's cruel, it's pointless, & it doesn't show Fleetwood Mac or their fans in a good light. It's like a dagger through my heart. I LOVE "Trouble in Shangri-La". "Time" has it moments but over all it's a little bland but I quite enjoy playing it in the background..sort of if I am around the house cleaning up or whatever. If it wasn't a FM album I think I would enjoy it more but I have got so used to the Mac-Standards now.

I vehemently disagree with you. I strongly believe that both Billy Burnette and Bekka Bramlett are incredibly underrated and underappreciated both as vocalists and songwriters (Burnette also as a guitarist) and they both shine on Time.

Though to really hear them at their best, one simply must listen to 1997's Bekka and Billy.

Yes, but in my experience she's so rude and illogical and infuriating that it is hard to resist. But definitely, it shouldn't be done. However, the fact that she incites it on purpose and enjoys making people mad just to spread bad energy, makes her equally culpable. And I think she is "personal" as well. I wouldn't defend it, but I wouldn't condemn it, either. Just because she isn't using actual bad words and names doesn't mean her intent is any better than someone who does use those names. IMO.

True - but you can still have an argument without calling someone a bitch, a slag or anything else. I don't think that is right on a forum where people are allowed to express their own views and opinions on something and not be called names - I can't see one single post from Victoria in this thread calling theWILDheart a name, so I don't see a need for it to be done to her - no matter how snarky or bitchy she got

She can indeed take critisism - I called her precious "Time" album a 'skidmark on the underwear that is Fleetwood Mac' and she took that in her stride

You know, thinking back, that was before our friendship, too. Actually that was the same thread where our friendship got it's start. Odd, that.

Oh, and looking back on my posts in the last month or so, the only person I've gotten really snarky with is you, Michael, and that hardly counts. So I'm not sure of the identities of these supposed "crushed" people.

Unless I missed something.

EDIT: That didn't come out right. I mean I'm not sure of the identities of the persons to which theWILDheart is referring.

Just my opinion....
I guess you think the actual words are more important than the intent, though you even state she is snarky and bitchy. I tend to disagree. How bitchy is someone allowed to get before someone stands up for themselves, or gets really pissed off? And, I've seen her a lot, and tried to give her a chance more than once - I adamantly disagree that she is a nice and fun person, I think she is a mean spirited, illogical person who spreads negativity for fun.
See? I didn't call her any bad names, but the intent of my words was clear. See how that works?
But - Wildheart apologized anyway, and it's not cool to call someone names either, and it's true that everyone can have any opinion they want.
So, basically - I see your point, and wildheart's, and have little more energy to spare on this, especially since everyone seems happy enough now. :woohoo:
I guess it all worked out!

It was indeed well before our friendship - and I was a 300 posts or so newby, and I was dead serious about my comment as well, I was not joking

And Amber, yes you are right - that was the point I was trying to get across, you can still have a discussion or an argument for that matter without getting personal :wavey:

Yes, you can, and my point was that I doubt even without name calling that Vicky was "impersonal".
