OK people, I'm at work, I can't watch, and my home computer is down. What is it?

It's a 911 call from a guy who is apparently on the 105th floor- through most of the call there's a little red thing pinpointing about where he is...

The video itself is just an image of one of the towers after it had been struck - so it's all smoky.

The guy is on the line with a dispatcher and a firefighter at one point - then there's an "oh my God" and at that point the building starts to come down...it's going to give me freaking nightmares...:distress:

You don't want to see it.

It's a 911 transcript that has been tied to video. The guy is desperately trying to get someone from the fire department to rescue them. He keeps saying how he doesn't want to die. At the end of this clip, you hear him scream over the phone "Oh, god, oh god!!!" as you watch the top half of the tower where he was located crumble apart and crash to the ground.

I don't recommend viewing this.

Someone on MySpace once sent me an amusing picture and a link for a website - so I went and there were HORRID pictures on there (decapitations, shootings etc)...I've never been back but it makes me wonder - stuff like that is out there for someone--who enjoys this stuff???

Have you guys seen this magazine yet? I work part-time at a Borders and was horrified to find it sitting right next to People mag. It's filled with disgusting pictures and articles about stuff like the war... there's an article on the victims of Chernobyl with circus-y sideshow pictures of deformities, there's was a pictorial of a dead body showing the decomposition in a slide show over a period of weeks. It was appalling.

I don't understand how anyone would ever want to look at that stuff.

Now - this video that David posted isn't in the same realm IMO - but it's sad and disturbing all the same.

Well, I just watched it. I agree, it's not to be amused all. Actually I KNOW what it felt. Terrorism is not new for me. My place was punished by terror 15 years ago. 1992 was the worst year, and that's when the leader of Shining Path was captured, and then everything starting to get better.

But before that, it was a nightmare. Blackouts anytime, car bombs in shopping centers, attacks in the road, specially in the mountains. Terrorist made a deal with narcotraficants.. everything was a mess. Some regiosn in the country was practically forbidden for tourists and travellers.

The worst incident was when they put a car bomb in front of a bank, here in Lima, and in my neighborhood, Miraflores, but they couldn't park in the exact door so they parked in the street near the building, a narrow street so when it exploded the energy concentrated over the buildings and houses in that street.

It was tragical.

2 buildings were the most affected, and they were not only offices. People lived there (9pm!)

This video makes me recall the scene of a desperate father arriving at the place, screaming for his son, trying to find him. The building was half destroyed (imagine Oklahoma bld.) and the other half in fire. Fortunately he found his son save.

My gym teacher wasn't that luck. He appeared on 6th floor shouting for help since his brother was dying... he didn't make it.

Ok, I stop here. Just to tell you fellows.. 9/11 was the biggest terrorist attack, but you just had few. After more than 10 years of terrorism in Peru, my generation became.. I don't know what to say. Not prepared nor used to it, because you never are.. but it made us hard, stronger.. I don't know. I really really not wish this to anyone, to any country. Will peace reign some day in the whole planet?

I often think of the ordinary people just wanting to live their lives but finding themselves in places getting bombed, whether that's London in 1940, Dresden in 1945, New York City in 2001, or Baghdad in 2003. I think like Londoners we need not to dwell publicly so much on the horror and the terrible moments of the past though, because that gives the terrorist what they most want. Somehow you have to keep going on despite violence and not be driven into panic or over reaction. They change you they win. Attacking all Arabs/Persians or Muslims and they win again. Or all Germans or all any group.

I know that it is important never to forget this tragedy and how Bush basically turned a blind eye to it (hello Iraq!) but yet I can't help but feel footage like this is out there for mainly sensationalist reasons and shouldn't be viewed. But like I said, 9/11 should never be forgotten and those who died should be memorialized. I dunno, there's gotta be a better way.

I think the most importatant thing is to separate the horror from the realities of what happened. The world didn't change on that day. There were horrible terrorist attacks and acts of despicable evil before 09/11, as well as after.

Whoever is/was behind the WTC mess wants people to react based on the horror.

Personally, I think WTC was designed by the neo-cons to enable them to invade Iraq and get away with all the **** they've pulled in the last five years.

I remember how offended I was stumbling onto still photos of the people who had jumped on Yahoo news. I never went back there either. It is an invasion of privacy in sone way, and yet for those who feel a need to know it should be available even if it means some sick and moronic people might also get some insane enjoyment from such things.

I have enough of an imagination I know I don't need to hear tapes or see film past what I saw the day it happened. It probably sounds shallow, but darn it, I wanted to see those buildings in person someday! They were great buildings regardless of their business purpose. What a society and what a city that could build those. If the Space Needle or CN tower fell over I would miss them too, but at least I got to see those in person. The twin towers stood for so lon g after what happened to them, they even fell in a way that would cause the least harm, because imagine if they had toppled sideways, it would have been thirty or forty blocks of carnage and fires. It could have been so much worse. If only there were parachutes or hang gliders on every floor, etc. etc., but it could have been ten times worse.

I had heard the audio before, but it is much more upsetting to see it matched with the video.

This is terrible, just like the videos of the people jumping to their deaths from the towers.

I also saw the Berg decapitation video, and that was one of the worst things I have EVER seen. It did make me sick to my stomach for several hours. It was terrifying . . . the screaming . . .

It is an invasion of privacy in sone way, and yet for those who feel a need to know it should be available To me, the question of whether particular footage is treated (& viewed) as sensationalism is a related but distinct debate. I'm not yet sure where I stand on this particular footage (& I don't care to watch it again--I watched it just the once). Nevertheless, I am going to stick to my guns. A recording of those events allows us to re-experience the tragedy--even to turn away. It has immense value in preserving the reality, which has been nearly lost amid the political nattering & posturing of the past five years. Should students of American history study the horror of the Civil War--the details of the battles, the casualty numbers, the blood-stained physical artifacts of the soldiers, the photographs of the fields of dead--or should they just study the flowery, jingoistic speeches of the politicians in Washington?
even if it means some sick and moronic people might also get some insane enjoyment from such things.I agree. This possibility always exists, but using this sorry fact about human nature to subsume the details of historical events is ideological defacement, in my opinion.

Most people's last moments are going to be at least pretty unpleasant. I've been there for a few, will probably be around for a few more. The thing I keep in mind is that in a forty or fifty year life you have probably thirty or fortynine and three quarters decent to good times versus a few minutes, hours, weeks of very bad time, so to dwell on the worst of times when it is not happening yet or already happened is out of proportion. It is a very very ugly thing like a huge kick in the stomach which leaves you feeling hollowed out to be a witness to in any way, and that you fight against obviously, but part of the fight is to go on living besides that or to give what good there is meaning, to make things better somehow.

Just some of my own reflections, maybe they don't make much sense or offer any comfort. Something good should come from even very bad things.

I agree. we owe it to those who died to keep those images and sounds first and foremost in our memories......to realize the absolute hatred with which we are confronted now, and to be willing to confront that hatred wherever/whenever it pops up. Thats not to say I support an unjust war in Iraq, because I DONT. Iraq is part of the Bush agenda which I absolutely deplore. In fact, 99.9% of anything attached to Bush I deplore (the only exception I can see is the fact that he set aside a marine reserve off of Hawaii

I agree. Those who say it is important viewing so as "never to forget 9/11" are barking up the wrong tree. Videos like this are sensationalistic and do not achieve anything other than shock value. If you really want to memorialize victims of 9/11 and keep out complacency for this event, listen to the rescuers' stories of witnessing, listen to the citizens of New York talk about that day, but don't exploit these people's deaths. I don't think anyone can honestly say that they viewed this video out of respect for the victims of 9/11, it is viewed to satisfy, as Homer said, "a morbid curiosity" and that's about it .

Thank you, I thought I was alone in this. Seriously, who on earth feels like listening to this horrifying clip is somehow necessary to commemorate those who lost their lives on that day? Give your head a shake for Christ's sake!
This reminds me of when I was in New York last month. I went to ground zero and felt enough impact just standing in that one spot. Then there were these assholes, selling pamphlets and brochures on the tragic event, and on top of the blatant ****tines of these people making a profit, it felt so gruesome watching these people revelling in the horror of the event itself.
So yes, this clip felt just like that - a car wreck that some people can't manage to pry their eyes from, just to partake in the gruesome spectacle.

I myself dont have the luxury of traveling to NY or anywhere else for that matter. Way over on the West Coast, Im pretty insulated by both time AND space from Ground Zero or NY firefighters etc.

To say that posting this video smacks of sensationalism is a bit excessive IMO. I cant think of anyone who posts something like this merely for shock value, or to pander to the "morbidly curious" And I cant speak for anyone else who watched it, but I honestly (if unrealistically) hoped a last minute rescue would occur. To see the building crumble and hear his words IS shocking, and not an easy thing to watch. That said, I DO think that people become complacent, and from time to time need reminders of the seriousness of what we face in these types of terrorists (domestic and foreign).

If you get it, you get it and you certainly are free to pass this by. I wont watch this clip again, but I am not sorry I did watch it. I consider it a reality check. I certainly DONT think these videos are a "commemoration" of anything. They are a preservation of a historic event, much like the footage of the space shuttle Challenger that exploded in mid-air or the stand off in Tiananmen Square. Our world aint pretty folks.

I just went to NYC for the first time this past weekend and we went to ground zero. I tried to prepare my self for what I was about to witness but when I walked up to the fence a paralyzing feeling came over me like a flood. I was crying and couldn't stop. I was receiving so much negative energy it was horrible. I couldn't think or talk. I just wanted to get away as fast as I could. I can't explain the feeling I had from head to toe. There are so many souls that are not moving on. I could feel the anger and frustration. I am not a medium by any means but I have always had some feeling of the other side. I am a Pisces and my sun moon and mercury are all in Pisces ~ sometimes I feel like an antenna to the other side. After we left there we went on with our day but for hours I went through so many emotions that were not me. The anger was almost uncontrollable. The same thing happened to me in OKC (I am from Shawnee, OK) and a friend and I were driving in the city looking for a flower shop when the same paralyzing feeling came over me. I thought I was having a panic attack when I looked up and saw the remains of the Murh building.

It took me hours to feel better after being down by ground zero. I can't watch this video ~ it's just too hard right now.

do you think the person who posted this video originally (not David) profited by it? Can you not think there might be another motive altogether than shock value or money? I myself am willing to entertain the possibility that there may have been in fact a different motive than that...

Oh totally. I don't think anyone profited monetarily from this (or maybe they did?). I was talking about a general, overall mentality of disrespect and exploitation that prompts displays like this. The urge doesn't have to be monetarily induced.

OK. Im having a hard time trying to wrap my mind around how someone could (or even WOULD) exploit this tragedy, but then, there's a lot of things that some people do that I shake my head at...
