It's funny I was in Ralph's about an hour ago in the produce section jammin to YMLF. It sounds so good in public. That guitar solo is still smokin.

Great friggin' song. I never get enough of it. That clavinet rocks.
And I love listening to the chorus when its stripped just to the vocals on the "making of rumors" dvd. The thick, soaring background vocals are amazing--and saturated with Chris's great voice.

I'm embarassed to admit that I never noticed how prominent(or even existent) those backround vocals really were until the "Making of Rumours.

I've never really noticed the backing vocals on YMLF. In my opinion, the keyboards(piano, organ & especially clavinet) plus Christine's smoky vocals really make the song. It's one of her best.

I get major goosebumps from that, every time. That ending chorus was always my favorite part, although you can't hear it as prominently on the actual album... but those voices together, aack they are stunningly gorgeous.

I know what you mean. That's what I most miss about Chris not being in FM
The combination of the three voices.
Everytime I watch The Making of Rumours I wait for the bit about Dreams when Ken Caillat plays the chorus with just the three of them and no instruments. Just gorgeous.
I'm getting sad now.

My favorite version though, is the one on the bonus Rumours disk, with the alternate lyrics. I wish they'd never changed them.
I'm beginning to wonder why.
I've a feeling it's time to try(is that it exactly?).

it's certainly not her best effort, but i find listening to OSOTM far more onerous.
so as not to stray from the topic of ms. mcvie, i came across her 84 album on vinyl last night. it was a happy find. :]

I forgave RAL, thinking anyone could make a clunker. OSOTM made me decide that indeed, SHE was the clunker. I've been over her ever since.
Anyone wanna buy a copy of OSOTM?:p

Why don't you try eBay? At one time, I had all of Stevie's solo albums, then I sold them all on eBay. Maybe you'd get a few bucks for it.:D

You have accused ME of turning the conversations to Stevy MANY times. And, your post immediately followed mine, so Sherlock, what deduction would you make, if you were me?
Johnny Stew

That my post followed yours was a coincidence. No one else happened to reply in the nearly three hours between yours and mine.
Again, I wasn't pointing a finger at you (or anyone)... just laughing at the direction the thread took.
so Sherlock, what deduction would you make, if you were me?I think you can deduct business lunches and gas money, and possibly sound equipment and stage clothes. I could be wrong about the latter though.

You have accused ME of turning the conversations to Stevy MANY times.dave, you've let the anti-Stevie camp turn you against her. Considering the years she spent singing & performing like a whirling dervish (1970 to 1986), with fire in her eyes & smoky soul in her chakra--years that I assumed you were fond of--you should be posting about those great old days all the time. I've been waiting for years for you to discuss at length with me the 29-year-old Stevie Nicks, one of the great goddesses of rock.
But something or someone has poisoned you, preventing you from ever discussing the really important Stevie years. There's this big lacuna in your Fleetwood Mac discussion, & dave, it sticks out like a sore thumb. Please come celebrate the 1977 Stevie Nicks with me! Fleetwood Mac has always had bonehead fans, so you can't possibly think that in-depth discussion on this topic has been exhausted. Not even close, dave....
So join me ....

Honestly, the "Stevy's the STAR of FM" people HAVE completely turned me against her. I've always said that it's her ARMY that really gets to me, far more than Stevy.
We should get out of this forum, but I've always ALSO said that I think Bella Donna is a MASTERPIECE! One of my alltime favorite albums. It's a classic.

A "masterpiece," dave?? Isn't it in fact just a collection of nice songs with good singing (Steve Simels compared Stevie to the no-nonsense country belter Brenda Lee) & instrumental musicianship that is the epitome of hidebound conventionality (in other words, "professional" in the less than lauditory sense)?

Honestly, the "Stevy's the STAR of FM" people HAVE completely turned me against her. I've always said that it's her ARMY that really gets to me, far more than Stevy.Good thing I didn't stop listening to Christine when some of her fans were on the verge of turning me off of her. But I realized it would be irrational of me if I couldn't separate the artist from the fans. They're not one in the same.
The only beef I have with you (and I should note that I like you outside of these arguments), is that you dig and dig at the "Stevie Army," as you perceive them, and when you get a reaction, you then turn around and chastize them for the very behaviour you were hoping to elicit out of them in the first place.
As I've said countless times -- if someone rags on the favorite artist of someone else, they are, without a doubt, going to get people lashing back at them. This is true of the fans of all contemporary artists.
To expect otherwise is to be completely delusional... certainly you wouldn't punch someone and not expect them to hit back.
And somewhere along the way, you seem to have mixed up the difference between good, honest criticism (ie: saying you don't like 'The Other Side Of The Mirror,' and illuminating valid reasons why you don't), and sophomoric putdowns that are posted with only one, very obvious intention.
Relatively few people ever take exception with the former approach (and those that do, aren't representative of the whole of the fan community), but a large majority will most certainly take exception with the latter approach and will respond accordingly.
I say this because I like you... but you've turned yourself into the kind of fan you claim to hate. Whereas you and I might normally be rolling our eyes together at the most "out there" folks in the fan community.
If I didn't think you were better than that, Dave, I'd just ignore you completely.

Well, maybe the country feel is WHY it's my favorite. No synths or drum machines!!! To me, it's as good as Rumours. Seriously.
(now if THAT doesn't say how much I used to love Stevie, I don't know what does)
