Oh man the show was great last night!!
I love Tom but we all know I really went cause Stevie was gonna be there. lol. He introduced Stevie as his "favorite person to sing with" and his "little sister." Some guy behind me was like, "Ooh she's a witch!" lol.
The opening of Stop Draggin... shocked the heck out of me. The voice was like RAL Stevie! I swear! But it wasn't the bad part of RAL...it was prime RAL. And I loved it! She switched up the lyrics a bit, instead of singing, "...Same ole line you used to use before..." she said "same ole thing you used to do before..." I was happy to actually hear the song sung the way it's supposed to, rather than having Waddy sing Tom's part and having it sound like crap.
Next was I Need To Know. This was the highlight of the night for me. Not because I'm like a huge fan of the song, cause I'm not, but Stevie just rocked this song out like I've never seen...(Well not since Red Rocks). And the vocals were amazing. She was smiling and banging that tambourine the whole time. The only thing I wished she would have done different is sing the Violet and Blue part at the end.
The song that should have been my favorite, was actually a disappointment actually. And that could be my own fault cause I should know better than to compare old performances to today's...but Insider just wasn't the same for me. I am used to the version that's circulating from sometime in 81, and she just really belts it out and the ending is my favorite when she does that little "oooohhheehhhhhhahh." Last night I could barely hear her and the whole thing was just Tom on acoustic guitar so it was just too quiet. I wanted the intensity of years past. I was in the lawn, so that could easily be why I couldn't hear that well...maybe it will sound better on a bootleg...
I was surprised to find out Stevie stays and sings backup on songs. I hadn't read any reviews but all I was aware of was the three songs above. I couldn't hear her on Learning to Fly, but it was just nice to see her up there. She was doing these whole graceful flying motions and they had her on all the screens. It was so cool! She looked like she was off in her own peaceful little world.
Don't Come Around Here No More was my second fav. song of the night that Stevie was apart of. I could distinctly hear her during this song, but it wasn't the vocals that made it great. It was the part at the end when they really let the song rip, and everyone goes nuts. The crowd's jumpin up and down and yellin and I look up at the screen and all I see is blond hair flyin and that tambourine being banged wildly. It was awesome. She was so into it.
The last song Stevie was performed on was the encore American Girl. I don't care for this song when I'm at home..but live, you just can't help but get into it. The energy is contagious! And oh my god...the hat. Would have loved it without the feather. lol. Oh well, it's Stevie.
I could comment on Tom and the Heartbreakers a lot too. They rocked and can still get a crowd going like no other. I swear I walked out of that lawn with a contact buzz...lol.
