Dude! With this being a Fleetwood Mac FAN website, and this a Stevie Nicks board, fans purchase their commercially released materials. The only stuff fans share is stuff you can't buy. Otherwise, you might be snuffed out! ;) Welcome to The Ledge, btw, BRANDoN! :)

I've been on the ledge for years...and I OWN the Enchanted box set. I dont normally ask for MP3's. Heres what happened...I'm moving to New Zealand in a week and I left all my CDs with my brother in Atlanta. I managed to TOTALLY WIPE my iPod clean somehow and I'm trying to get all my favorite tunes on it before I leave.

Help should be supplied here, generally, without explanation I would hope. At least, that's what I would consider to be the "ideal Ledge." Not to mention I'm a supporting Ledge and have been on here for 5 years. Not that I deserve anything for that...just a thought.

And the fact that you only asked for one song lol...oye some people

People have been great when I needed songs - had I not already packed away my cds I would have helped....but hopefully you already got the tune you needed :)

I can't believe you feel that way...let alone admit to it. You should support the artists you like, not steal their music to save yourself $.

Im so with you on that!

See maybe the difference is that Stevie is one of those artists for us, maybe just not as important artist for them.... im trying here

I own all of stevie's album even though i gave Street Angel away. I actually own OSOTM and Timespace Twice!

There are some artists who dont mean a lot to me and i wil just download some of their music, like artists where you like just one song etc...

ANY Stevie Fan should have Enchanted FIRST! And who COULD NOT buy it even for just two songs, the whole box is just exquisite with the bonus of having fabulous unseen photo's. How foolish a fan to think that all they would gain is two songs :( ... My cousin just went to the US last week and im going to ask her to buy me Enchanted the box set AGAIN, just because my 3rd disc is in really poor condition and i'd love the box set is A+ condition coz it is the BEST!

Hope that made some sense...

oh no. You guys have grabbed the wrong end of the candle and burnt yourself...I downloaded the TIMESPACE tracks i.e. Sometimes it's a Bitch and Desert Angel. I downloaded 2 tracks from Enchanted to decided wether or not it was worth buying the boxsett. It WAS :) although I have leant the Enchanted Boxsett to a mate at the moment...I am trying to convert her "Muhahahahahahaha".

Any Stevie Fan should have Enchanted FIRST!

The first Stevie album I had was OSOTM on an old vinyl of my Dads. Then I bought Rock a Little on tape from a carboot when I was about 8 and then I bought The Wild Heart on CD about 4 or 5 years ago. Infact, I bought The Wild Heart and Trouble in Shangri-La together cos Trouble had just been released and music zone were offering "buy Trouble in Shangri-La and get another Stevie Nicks album half price". Then, not so long after, my brother bought me Bella Donna for christmas and Street Angel was my most recent Studio album purchase. As for Fleetwood mac stuff...i've loved the mac for so long now, i've lost track of which I bought first.

I lost my disc 3. I can't find it anywhere! :distress: :distress: I thought maybe I had lost it in the car due to the excessive roadtrips we've been taking lately, but it's not there, it's not in my husband's c.d. case nor in mine. I'm beside myself because I don't want to have to buy the whole boxed set all over again just for the 3rd disc, but the 3rd disc is my favorite! Curses!

I don't think anyone got burned, dear. You said in your first post that you aren't about to buy a 3CD box set for 1 or 2 tunes. So I can see why they would think that you didn't own it. Glad to know that you do, though.

In the end, you have to decide what is right or wrong and act accordingly because there really isn't a way to police all of the trading of things--nor has there ever been. I've read the comments and followed along and can only come up with an analogy. If I bought a car, and the car was no longer under warranty, and the muffler deteriorated, or became dislodged, I'd have to buy another one. I wouldn't be entitled to go into a store and "take one" just because I bought the original car. And yet I could get one via purchasing one at a junk store, used (with music--gemm.com, ebay, even used from Amazon). It doesn't really matter that I am a card carrying member of the auto club. "Membership does have it's privileges" but I'm not sure you can honestly (and I am using that word intentionally) extend that to mean you can take some one else's property and make it your own, despite the fact that you own it "elsewhere" or once owned it. But we aren't talking cars. We are talking about a piece of "art" that can easily be stolen (if you are uncomfortable with that word, use the word "shared" instead) with the technology that we now have. So do what you believe is right. On this fan board it has been the practice to not share-- to not OPENLY share--commercially available materials. If you were missing one or two songs and had pm-ed or emailed a personal friend, I'm sure they would have shared it with you. But asking someone to post a link so that it can be downloaded for free on <I>this</I> site seems wrong.

But maybe I am clearly wrong about the nature of this site. In the end, you are responsible for what you do, just as I am. It's probably not worth any further discussion--certainly not from me.

Well when I first heard about the Enchanted boxsett - i didn't show much interest. I thought it was just another compilation. But when I looked at the tracklist, i decided to download a few to see what they were like. I liked what I heard so I bought it. As I said, it's on load at the moment though.

Disc three kicks! My Enchanted boxset as a whole is in rather poor condition :distress: I have been contemplating for a little over a year now whether or not to buy another one - just to keep it home and keep it pretty.

The one I have carted around, the booklet fell out long ago and the discs are on the verge of death  But oh how I love Enchanted!!

For those of you who have discs that are getting worn out from carrying around and playing a lot, invest in an iPod. It's the best way to listen to your music a lot and not have to worry about losing or warping CDs. ;)

So did mine! Argh! Those booklets weren't very well attached were they?

I usually cart my Enchanted discs around in empty jewel cases so they're easier to transport, unfortunately, this is how I lost one. I'm so mad! But yeah, I'll probably just buy a new boxed set eventually because mine is beat up pretty badly too.

On this fan board it has been the practice to not share-- to not OPENLY share--commercially available materials.

So it's okay to trade non-commercially traded material? Wouldn't that mean bootlegs and demos? Isn't it unethical to possess and trade these kinds of materials too? We know how Stevie (for one) feels about the circulation of her unreleased material and bootlegs aren't really "legal" either are they? I'm not calling you out, just wondering where people stand on this, and also wondering why you singled out "commercially available" materials.

You've got a point there. Besides, If I download one or two songs from an album (I did this recently - I wasn't sure whether 'Street Angel' was worth buying so I downloaded Blue Denim and Maybe Love) I will gladly pay for them on MSN download but I use limewire to download rare stuff or stuff that isn't available on MSN download.

Commercially available as in available to buy, I would have thought. Anything that denies the singer/songwriter in question a royalty.
Now most people can legally purchase and download individual tracks as well, so even the age old problem of having to buy a whole soundtrack, for example, just for one song doesn't even come into it.

As for the bootleg question: it probably is unethical to possess and trade bootlegs, but since they aren't available to buy at the very least you are not stealing a potential sale. I think it's nice we share an odd "commerically available" track here and there, but a lot of people seem to be so used to getting things for free they don't want to buy anything. Like I've said before there was one guy on Seven Wonders who had a few tracks from TOSOTM and asked three times (thankfully without response) for people to post the rest of the album for him. It just seems bizarre to me. I'm also confused when some fans seem to have collected a huge amount of bootlegs and only own one or two albums. Is this because the bootlegs are essentially free and the albums aren't? I just don't understand it really. I'd want the albums before anything else (and I wasn't exactly rich when I started my collection, I bought it slowly, piece by piece).
It's a tricky subject really. I change my mind about it all the time.

We don't really have an "official" policy regarding song sharing here on the Ledge (ie: it's not in the guidelines/FAQs), but we generally prefer that file-sharing is limited to unreleased songs, audience recordings or radio broadcasts of live shows, and material that is no longer available commercially.

We do allow the occasional request for an album track or a soundtrack appearance, but... especially in the case of album tracks... we prefer that the requested file not be shared publicly on the board, but rather in a private message or email. And as long as the privilege isn't abused (ie: asking for "Wild Heart" today, then "If Anyone Falls" the next day, then "Gate And Garden" the day after that, and so on until you've bummed the entire album).

I agree with you there. Popular albums like OSOTM are very easy to get hold of especially online. I only download stuff from soundtracks or stuff that is just 1 song I like buy an artist (e.g. I can't STAND Deacon Blue but i like 'Real Gone Kid') so I download the odd song here and there. Downloading whole albums is pointless when you can pick them up in a store or online cheap enough and they are widely available and most are now digitally remastered.

I think that's the smartest policy. If the album is still in print, it means that label can come after Adelson for allowing it to be posted on his site without permission. So there's a very real practical danger in posting things here that are still in manufacture.

Whereas an audience-recorded concert or a radio concert or a demo may still be copyrighted but it isn't in print & being sold through primary retail markets--it's on the 'secondary market.' So people can argue that it's unethical to trade such things (because it's a breach of IP & copy rights), but there is almost no practical danger associated with the transaction.
