It's the summer holidays. I've had a really busy year at school and now being at a loose end is so strange... for the first time ever I'm bored on my summer holidays!

So I turn to the trusty old internet and computer for creative stimulation.
Can someone tell me how to acheive the look in the pictures I've attached? Of one image sort of merging into another, blending at the edges. I love playing about with pictures and this is something I've wanted to do for ages.

I know there are some geniuses (sic!) in this field on the board... help me out here! :D

Cheers

PS: One or two of these I've nabbed from people on the Ledge ~ I was really impressed with them. If one is yours and you want me to take it out of my 'personal collection', just yell.

I use adobe photoshop for all my graghic and photo editing.
They have great tutorials at their website that would explain it better than I could right now.

there is a great community on livejournal called icon_tutorial or something like that. it is really helpful to read. if you use photoshop, it's all about the layers...which I'm still trying to figure out myself.

All I know is you are killing me softly with the right-edge of the bottom photo as that 'capture' of Stevie is my all-time favorite!

What program do you use? Photoshop is really good, as someone else recommended. I'm terrible at explaining these things - I'll admit it! - but I could do a visual tutorial or something.

Sounds like I ought to get Photoshop...! Oooh, expensive... Maybe I'll invest.

In the meantime, has anyone seen X-Men 3? You know the way Magneto keeps saying "We Are The Cure!!"?

Well .... turns out he was right.

This one needs work. And lots of it. More to follow, perhaps!

HA! Two of those are mine.. the long banner and the large pic. That's cool.. you're welcome to them. I think the large one is one I sent to the nicksfix and they have it on their wallpaper page over there...

I use a few different programs to do stuff... One program that I use that is perfect, and very easy for very basic things - but is excellent for blending pics together (like the ones above) is called "Corel Photo House". But that program is so ancient - like probably from 98 or something like that so I'm not even sure you'd be able to find it.. it came bundled with a early version of Word Perfect... The other two I use are "Gimp" and "Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9" Both do alot of similar things and a bunch of other stuff... Never got into the actual photoshop program...

And that's about it.

It is about layers in Photoshop. Each image goes on a separate layer and you set the opacity differently. You can erase the parts you don't want out with the eraser tool.
