I heard about a CD titled Original Syn collecting a ton of Yes bass player Chris Squire's early band recordings. Mainly of The Syn which was a group in the mid '60s that turned into Mabel Greer's Toyshop which turned into Yes. Anyway, I wanted it...

Unfortunately a modern goth sort of U.S. group also called Syn put out a CD at almost the same time. I say unfortunately because I got it where I was expecting something very different and with two discs not one.

I am pretty sure the seller plays off this accident of naming by having almost no information about the disc he is selling, no photo, no track listings, no number of discs indicated, or company releasing it. But being a big seller and not imagining there was not only another Syn but that it would have used the same title Original Syn, I didn't imagine any problem. Even after he stuck me with $14 postage plus $2 mandatory insurance! Boy, did I ever get fleeced, but that was mentioned in the listing, and I should have looked.

Has this kind of thing happened to you? Or am I the only moron around to get shystered like this? I don't even feel I can leave a negative comment for this seller as technically they didn't do anything wrong. Morally is another matter. The postage for the lone disc actually cost them only $2 if that and took a month and the case was cracked a couple places from the flimsy packaging.

Also curious if anyone knows about the U.S. Syn?

Look before you click...

I have ordered the right CDs from someone else for a total of $16 with postage and wish I'd bought from them first instead of wasting $24 on the wrong disc badly packaged.

happened to me.

I scout out discs, and if need be, I will email the seller questions I have before I order a disc.

$14 for shipping is way too high...What's with people trying to make a profit by overcharging on the shipping?

Btw, the following link is to a large list of the Chris Squire & the Syn cd's that are for sale:

The Syn Original Syn - Buy used cds, rare vinyl records, LPs and music albums

The cd can also be found easily on amazon.com for about $9.14:

I wish the Syn I'd wanted had been out long enough to find used copies as that's usually what I'll buy. I never buy from China or places where you're likely to get a pirated version. I stick to England, Germany/Holland, Canada/U.S. and Japan. Australia/N.Z. would be okay but for postage tending to be highish.

Sometimes amazon has better selection for used CDs, I think people tend not to look there, sometimes their Canada and other foreign versions will have things the main U.S. one doesn't. Gemm used to be great but lately it seems to be all high prices from their sellers, I guess they figure if one person bites they have done better than selling a lot more at lower prices.
