I can't seem to walk by a dollar store without going in & getting something.:o Dollar Tree, Everything's $1, whatever. (I'm not a huge fan of Family Dollar or Dollar General, where things are cheap, but more than $1.)

Today I stopped in on my way back to work from Payless (BOGO, baby :p ) and bought 2 father's day cards & 2 birthday cards (2 for $1). Then I HAD TO HAVE 4 blue rasberry Blow-pops when I saw them at the register @ 4/$1. I was able to pass up the Tiki god figurine, so I'm pretty proud of myself.

 I used to HATE the dollar stores when I was little. My grandma was a big ole dollar store whore, and I used to hate going with her...

But now, I love them too :D Sometimes you find stuff, sometimes you don't...but I actually haven't been in one in about a year! There aren't any near places I frequent anymore.

I'm right there with you. I have to actually turn my head when checking out. if I see sale or 4/$___, I must buy.

Fred's is my cheapo spot - good loot in there.

And that's a good thing. Remember what happened to the poor Bradys in Hawaii...

I love dollar stores. But we have something even better here: 99-cent stores! Every penny counts, after all. :D

I KNOW! I could have ended up with a tarantula crawling on me. Or worse, I could've been swallowed up by a big wave, what with all the surfing I do.

Dollar General has their version of Butterfinger, 4/$1. I'm not even a candy whore, but I always buy eight when I'm there.

FWIW, I only eat about one a week....

do you ever notice when you are younger, you are so embarrassed at anything "cheap"?? you DIE when your mom takes you to the dollar store, or to get clothes from wal-mart.... it's all about how much you paid and you brag about it.."I spent $75 on these pants" (btw..>I have NEVER spent $75 on a pair of pants *L* I'm all about the sales)

but when you get older-you brag about how cheap you got something..>"I got these damn pants for $2.50!!!! " *L* interesting.....

I got a pair of pants from wal-mart awhile back and everyone at work went and bought the same pair. I'm such a fashion starter *L*

I like the dollar store and Big Lots for cleaning supplies, and also you can find cool garden-ey type stuff there.

Are you guys really all into the dollar stores? They scare me. I go in once in awhile if I am feeling especially adventurous. I usually only buy gift bags and cards for people I am not that close to there. :) I just think they are a rip-off on other things....like an ice tea pitcher there was a dollar. ok, fine. But the SAME pitcher was at Wal-Mart for 88 cents! That's 12 cents difference!

A friend of mine and her sister have a competition going as to who can buy each other the ugliest knick-knack from the dollar store. They have some fugly looking trinkets, I must say!

I used to love shopping in dollar stores, but after working in one for two years I kind of avoid them sometimes. I still shop there when I can though, 'cause cheap chocolate = paradise.

I love to go to the dollar stores around Christmas time. The deals on gift bags can't be beat. I am always afraid to buy food at these places for some reason and my Dad likes to go there to get batteries.

Well, that's basically all I buy - cards, bags, little picture frames, etc. No fake plants, food or gross tchachkis for me, thanks.

And I know what you mean about some stuff actually costing less than $1 at other stores. I always ask myself 1 - if I really DO need this item AND 2 - will I find it cheaper somewhere else.

Oh, Big Lots! You are a girl after my own heart! I adore Big Lots, so much great stuff. Especially the garden/outdoor items.

I recently went to Dollar Tree and got a cute basket, 3 greeting cards and some confetti. Total cost was like $3.50 or something. The cards were only 50 cents a piece! I hate paying 2-3-4 bucks at Wally World or wherever. I throw most cards I get away anyway. LOL

I like to buy house cleaning stuff there too. Don't buy food there though.

when I think of 'dollar stores' I think of the date Feb.7th,2003:

Wake to find out Fleetwood Mac is finally coming back to OKC, Receive our tax refund in the mail that morning so Deb decides to go shopping at "The $1 Shop" before I drop her off to work (Before I headed off to work).

It snowed slightly that morning, but by noon the sun was out, And the snow started to melt onto the sidewalks. Well, as we were pulling into the "$1 Dollar Store" I noticed water on the sidewalk and told Deb to be careful of the ice on the sidewalk...But she didnt hear what I said so I repeated it to her as I walked to avoid the ice on the ground. But no sooner than I said the word ice I fell off the sidewalk (A 5" curb, I slipped on black ice avoiding the visible 'white ice') and snapped my tibia where it connects at the ankle.

So when most think of the bargains at 'dollar stores', I think of the $1500+ medical bill for my crash & burn at a 'dollar store'.
