View Full Version : I wanna go to...

These aren't my dream vacations or anything, but there are several places I want to travel to & haven't yet. These are places I realistically could get to without blowing too much money or flying for 20 hours or anything like that.

Montana or Wyoming. I've never been to that area of the country, and it really interests me. I'm a sucker for state & national parks, camping, hiking, that kind of thing. South Dakota seems like it would be dull, but I've heard it's gorgeous there too.

Boston. How I've never been there yet, I don't know. It's not like it's all that far or anything. But I love historical places & good food, and I've heard it's a cool city to visit. Plus I could go & see Suze. :D

San Francisco. Friend Ryan just got back from there & loved it. Of course, he IS a gay man. But I've been to L.A. & San Diego, so I feel like I should see Northern Cali too. Of course, I'll make a stop to pick Amber up & go to Chico to shut her up. ;)

Oregon. Lush forest, gorgeous coastline. I have a cousin who lives there, but I don't like him so I may never go. It would be odd to travel all the way there & not hang with him, his weird wife & 6 of his 8 kids that live with them ( ) but I really don't care to see them. So I guess I just won't go.

Where would you like to go?

Oh there are many places I still want to go:

In the US:

Oregon - I've wanted to go there since seeing Kindergarten Cop in fifth grade  The majority is set in Astoria, Oregon.

Chicago - I've only ever stopped there while flying..I'd love to visit friends there and just check the place out.

Savanah, GA - I've read some books set there and it just sounds like an interesting place.

Dollywood.

Outside the US:

England! I want to get some tea and scones that aren't horrid and I've only been to one tea house that got stuff right..oh, wait, make it two - there was a lovely British cafe I went to in NYC.

Italy - Read some books set there..sounds amazing...

Erm...I'm sure there are more places..but those are the ones that popped out with little thought :)

Nope :( Never been, but have always wanted to go. I'm afraid to though - growing up my grandma told me they all hated Mexicans down there, I was afraid I'd get lynched while enjoying me some Dollyness :distress:

Alaska was gorgeous!!!!!!! The thing about it is is a cruise is the best way to see the most of it as much of it is very inaccessible any other way. But, it is well worth seeing!!!!!!!!

I also LOVE Boston. Sadly, I am not going to the Cape this year and I am ticked about that

I was looking at a book about Alaska today strangely enough.

I wish I had the money to go to all these places.

Alaskan towns are really not that great as far as things to see in the towns - compared to, say, London, Bath, etc. But, the landscapes, waterways, etc. are to die for!!! There is nothing like landing on a glacier in a helicopter!

I am so going to Wyoming next year for vacation. I love the wilderness and the national parks, too. I'm just intrigued, Wyoming has something like, 500,000 residents? I'll have to look that up. I believe it's the least populous state. I also want to see Colorado badly. I just know I'd love it out there.... But that's next year...

:blob1: I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD TOMORROW!!!!:blob2:

Oh I know....but my grandma built that damn fear into me lol...same with Elvis, I can never look at him the same way because my grandma claims he once said something really horrible about Mexicans...I don't want to quote it here.

One day I'll make it to Dollywood - I tried a couple of years ago to get tickets to a Dollywood Christmas concert she was giving...didn't pan out :(

Have fun at Disney by the way..I'm SO jealous...and if you make to Colorado some day - we'll have to meet up somewhere!!

I used to spend Summers in the Queets River rain forest http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/pacificnw/2005/0130/cover.html on the Olympic Peninsula. I wnet back for the first time in over 20 years, back in '97, and I was horrified to see how the land around the highways leading to the park are stripped of trees. The park itself, though, still looks just like I remember it: ferns, clear water, moist forest paths, and trees covered with lichen and moss. It is a paradise.
The Hoh rainforest is also amazing, and Second Beach is a wild beautiful beach - not sure if you can camp there.

My parents just got back from an Alaskan cruise and they said it was gorgeous! They also said don't go on a cruise unless all you wanna do is lounge around eat!! Apparently the food is decadent and plentiful. Sounds good to me!

I want to go to Iceland. I know, I know, sounds boring but I studied Old Norse in graduate school and read all the old Icelandic sagas in the original Old Norse, so I'd like to visit all the sites mentioned in those stories. I know, I 'm a nerd. Well, I'd also like to take a dip in those famous hot springs! That'd be cool, just get out of your car and dive into a spring on the side of the road. Awesomeness.

Paris
Alaska
Vancouver
Washington
Oregon (This and Washington MAY be a reality within the next couple of years...fingers crossed)
New York City
Chicago
Egypt
Germany (Neuschwanstein Castle!!)
Italy
Switzerland
Montana (This was actually on our planned trip 6 years ago before all hell broke loose in my family. We were gonna drive that Going to the Sun Road that David mentioned.)
Hawaii
New England in the fall
New Zealand and Australia

And the list goes on and on and on....

Sometime before I call it quits in this lifetime, I would like to hit the 9 states I have not been to, so I can say I "saw 'em all":

Alaska
North Dakota
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Michigan (I was within not just miles or yards, but FEET and didn't cross the border)
Florida
North Carolina
South Carolina
Kentucky

Well, while I'm at it, maybe the other 5 Canadian provinces, too:
Nova Scotia
Manitoba
Newfoundland
Prince Edward Island
New Brunswick

Umm...ok, just looked at a Canadian map...when was Nunavut split from the Northwest Territories?? Never mind, just found out...April 1, 1999. Obviously, the news of that never made it to the US news agencies.

I'm a traveler. It's in my blood, my genes. I'm single, right now I have a partner, no children. So I've travelled several places, lot of them. I'm luycky I could visit far continents too. So in my humble opinion I give you some tips and short reviews of the places i Know:

Boston. Very nice city. Try to go northern towns very traditional and full of history, like Portsmouth or Salem

San Francisco. MY FAVE city in the US. The most beautiful in my opnion, I spent a week and couldn't visit all places I wanted to see (so I went a 2nd time), this, to me, is THE MUST.

If you like Las Vegas, include a trip to Grand Canyon and places around there, like Monument Valley (Arizona) and Lake Powell (Utah), but you need time for it, or money if you do in 1 or 2 days with an airplane tour.

Now, answering your question Where would you like to go? , I'm curious about Alaska. I already had seen most importants places in the US, but Alaska and Hawaii I've not seen yet.

And the world.. I want to go to CHINA, Thailand (again), Greece and its islands, SouthAfrica, Australia, New Zealand and San Andres (colombian caribbean)

and if you're a Hendrix fan

Places I'd like to see someday:

Mt. Rushmore
Times Square
Bourbon Street
The Great Lakes
Mississippi River
Niagra Falls
Some everglades

Only in my dreams:
Florence Italy
Spain
Greece
London

WHat is with the Dollywood fascination? Is it because of Dolly, or is the place itself so great?

I'd like to go to:

Greece-Greek Islands (bigtime- #1 dream)
Hawaii
Africa
Israel
and I guess...Dollywood :D

My brother-in-law and his wife lived in Scotland for several years, and unbelievably, my husband and I never made it there to visit. I thought I would love to go there, but sadly never made it.

I've been to 33 of the U.S. states, and I love the U.S., so I'd like to finish my travels and be able to say I've seen all the states.

Wow, I could go on forever about places I'd love to go...

- London, Paris... basically all the 'well-known' cities in Europe. I've always dreamed of going to Athens too, because I was a huge Greek mythology geek when I was little.

- New York City. Being that I'm a city whore, I MUST go there one day.

- Disneyland... yes, tragically, I've never in my life been there.

- San Diego and Los Angeles again. Especially San Diego though, I absolutely loved it there. I would live there if I could.

Nope :( Never been, but have always wanted to go. I'm afraid to though - growing up my grandma told me they all hated Mexicans down there, I was afraid I'd get lynched while enjoying me some Dollyness :distress:

That isn't true! I live thirty minutes from Dollywood. We have a surprising large hispanic population here in the mountains. You would be perfectly fine. I promise. :D

Naaa.. times have changed. When I was in Tennessee a couple of months ago, there were lots of Mexicans in a little bitty town my grandma lived in. You'd be OK in Dollywood...

What little bitty town does your grandma live in? I live in Newport. I was wondering if we lived in the same town. That would be wild, wouldn't it?!:p

Three things the UK has going for it (in my opinion): nice countryside, history! (castles, museums and cool stuff like that), and London!!! Honestly I do believe London is great. I was walking past the Houses Of Parliament at night the other week and it looked so pretty all lit up. It was still really busy despite being late with tourists and people having a night out and I just thought to myself, wow, this is a great city, sometimes I forget!

I went to London for the first time a few months ago and had the best time! It's one of my favorite cities.

Sounds nice. But Amber, just warning you, it's cold in England! You may freeze!

It IS cold! I expected the climate to be similar to Seattle but it was much colder, at least when I visited.

I always wanted to see New Zealand. Use to have a pen-pal as a youngster with a girl from New Zealand way back when. Do they even have pen-pals anymore?

Yeah, they're called Personal Ads. :sorry:

I would love to show Boston off to you! I love SF myself and have been thinking about it lately.

I want to go everywhere. But to be more specific, in the states I'd like to see Yosemite and wine country. Also southern California, I have a friend in San Diego and would like to visit him and check out that city and also LA since I've never been.

Abroad I'd like to visit Italy, particularly Rome, and then around the vineyards and such.

I want to see Paris, France, the South of France, and perhaps the French Alps.

Australia, I wouldn't know where to start, I'd like to spend quite a while there and see most of it.

New Zealand - a friend who's traveled alot said it was her favorite place and she maried a kiwi too.

Ireland, I am mostly Irish and have always been drawn to the country and its culture. I'd also like to visit Great Britain. It would be hard to narrow it down to a reasonable number of places for an average length vacation.

Prague - I'm told it is gorgeous and a dollar goes a long way! Not sure if it still does though.

Nah, it's not always cold but it has been recently. It's raining now at the moment. If you like walks in the rain it's ideal (and Ireland is even better for that). The beaches in England are on the whole horrible though but seaside towns like Brighton and Cornwall are fun to go to.

It's always warmer in Cornwall, and not just because that's where I come from :D It does rain quite a bit though :(

That one reminds me of Miss Piggy. It's not funny to me. I think the sheeps eyes are what made the other funny. Plus, hello, it was jumping rope?

It's kind of weird, though. It also reminds me that I should go work out right now. See ya! :wavey:

More bread (I was out, nothing for lunches) PB and J, which I shouldn't buy, because I love it so much, and...3 yogurts. And water. And light cranberry juice cocktail. Another treat, I rarely buy juice. It was cheap, though.

Exciting, yes? I only had about $10 to spend, so I did pretty good. :woohoo: Could've used some chips and salsa, though.

That sucks so hard. I go to the mexi place up by the store, big container of salsa fresca, small bag of chips...$1.50!!!!! Yes, yes. The salsa by itself is only 95 cents. For a hummus sized container. :D

I haven't tried the kind you say, but it sounds hot. :p I don't buy salsa in stores, unless it's that homeade looking kind in plastic containers.

You HAVE to have milk! (and a cookie) :D Don't care much for soy milk, but then again I am a milkaholic, so have to have the Hard stuff - whole milk. I go for the creamy BP and a wide variety of J's. Strawberry, apricot, raspberry, balck raspberry.... I change as I run out of J and have to replace it. I lead such an exciting life here in the 24/7 city.

I don't really drink milk. It's a left over from when I didn't eat dairy, meat, or refined sugar. It's not very good for you. But neither is cheese, and I eat that. Plus, my parents buy whole milk (and always have, I had a lot growing up) so it's like a creamy treat when I visit them.

Oh, and...um...my pbj is pretty much my cookie equivalent. I bought it specifically for when I crave sweets. Sandwichy sweets. I get chunky PB, and whichever preserves are on sale. Well, I actually like strawberry, mostly. I always run out of peanut butter first! But I usually buy the small jar, because it's cheaper (der). Cookies are great, though, which is why I rarely buy them. But I do buy those little debbie peanut butter/chocolate/wafer thingies. They're 25 cents! Awesome! :woohoo:

This has got to be the lamest convo ever. Wait, are we in the "lame" thread?
Nope. We better stop threadjacking.
This is "I wanna go...." So, I wanna go to the groceries stores and buy whatever I want!
P.S. - You've used that laundry line twice in two days (that I know of). So, you know.

$1.50??? are you ****ing kidding me?? dude. chips and salsa around here is at least a $7-8 investment. my salsa (which i lived off of for, like, months, until they stopped carrying it) was $3.49 a jar, and it was a 10 oz. jar. of course, it was organic, and you have to be willing to spend like the nouveau riche to eat organic around here.

Oh, yeah, it's totally that expensive in the stores here (usually). You know, we have all the cheap, good, mexican run mexican food places here. It is one of those. And it is a small bag of chips. You probably realized that, though. But that is very, very cheap even so. And I love the homeade, just out of the fryer tortilla chips. <=== look, I just used Angel guy to describe chips.

the salsa is pretty mild (to appease the midwestern palate) and has a **** ton of cilantro in it. their guacamole is top-notch, tho.

If their chips are okay, that doesn't sound too bad. Is it salsa fresca, or the runny liquid salsa? I don't like cilantro much, actually, but they all put it in. My mom used to make homeade salsa that was really good, but no cilantro, more of a garlicky/salt base.
