Some of you may remember that we had to put our cat Cosmo to sleep almost 2 months ago. Things were getting better for us as time went on, our other cat Mrs. Bouvier was relishing the extra attention & Bubba the dog didn't seem to notice that anything had changed (I love him to death, but he's not too bright, that one  )
Anyway, we had NO plans of getting another pet anytime soon. Then we got a phone call from my sister-in-law's sister. She works for the SPCA & was fostering 2 kittens but her husband wouldn't let her keep them. She was nervous about having the SPCA put them up for adoption, since many cats are returned & often put down.
So. I tell her no, it's too soon, I don't think so, we can't. She tells me about how they're B&W and that must be a sign, since Cos was B&W too. Mark is skeptical, I'm hemming & hawing, telling her maybe. Then the clincher - the boy cat has 1 EYE! Well, of course I'm intrigued. Hubby is a bit weirded out at first, but I convince him that we chould at least go to her house & check him out.
Turns out that these kitties were brought in by some woman who humanely traps cats to bring in to the SPCA to be fixed/tagged/adopted/whatever. The boy scratched his eye really bad while in the trap, so they tried to give him medicine, but it got infected & they had to remove it.
A 1-eyed feral cat? Hello! Of course I'll take him!!!
He's about 12 weeks old, almost 3 pounds. He's EXTREMELY friendly & loves to cuddle. His purr is so loud, and he's really playful without being totally crazy. He wants to play with Mrs. Bouvier but she'll have none of that. (She did the same thing to Cosmo when we first brought him home, so hopefully she'll learn to love him too.) Poor Bubba wants to play with the kitten, but the kitten will have none of THAT! It's been a bit weird, though - he has a lot of the same mannerisms as Cosmo did. Creeps us out at times, but we'll get used to it.
The name was a big issue, of course we're jerks so we had to have a 1-eyed reference in there. I loved Sammy (Davis Jr.) but Mark nixed that one. He wanted Cy (for Cyclops) but I nixed that one. (One Eyed) Jack was discussed, but eventually let go. Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to present my new baby:
One Eyed Willy!!! Named for the pirate in the movie The Goonies, you pervs. I've already had to tell Mark to stop saying "I'm going to play with my little Willy now." Umm, honey......

LOL...it was meant to be! And great name too! What a sweet heart...and having a dog who loves cats - but is constantly snubbed by them - I can feel Bubba's pain ;)

I'm totally a sucker for stuff like the one eyed cat. He's very cute! When Charlie Brown choses the little broken down POS Xmas tree.....that's me.
My friends have a rescue farm, where they take in dogs and cats that nobody wants. They find homes for most of the normal ones. But the blind and deformed animals; cats with feline AIDS, etc, are almost impossible to find homes for:( , so they just keep them all there, for the rest of their natural lives. But most of them live happy lives there.

Paula how cute! about names--I am always very mindful about what I name an animal because after all, the neighbors are going to be hearing you call it home. Thus, I am eternally grateful I do not have to stand at my front door and shout WILLY!!!
I think I would have named him patch :D

Willy makes me want to go get another one!
There is the most adorable pupster hanging around in the neighborhood of my place of employment. No one seems to know who the owner is, and I have seen her running the streets often. I have stopped three times to try to coax her to my vehicle but it has all been for not. She appears to be afraid of adults as a child was able to hold her, but when I approached she struggled to get away. I told the child to let her go as I did not want the child to be hurt in any way. I'm terrified something will happen to her if she doesn't come to my home for love. I will try again this evening. Wish me luck! My Shelly girl needs a buddy and this pup would be perfect for her as, although she is afraid, she appears to be very loving.

Thanks, everyone. Part of me thought it was too soon after Cosmo dying. but then I realized that I didn't go out & look for a cat to buy, I didn't ask people to keep their eyes (teehee) open for a black & white kitten - a one eyed kitty needed a home & we were happy to help.

Nice pussy! Congrats. He is so cute. He does look like Cosmo. You will have a blast with him. Kittens are so much fun. Did you get him a scratching post? Very important. I gave my kitties treats when they were first learning to use it and even now, I still put their treat on top of it. They have never scratched anything in my house (that I know of  ) which is great because I was not going to get them declawed. Enjoy him, they grow so fast. I'm so happy for you!

Congrats and I love the name! Perfect! He will be eternally grateful and give you lots of love! I've often said that strays make the best pets...it's like they know you are rescuing them...
I am SO not ready yet for another kitty...I never wanted a cat in the first place, he adopted me. :p So, if and when I'm meant to have another one, it will have to happen the same way. One of the neighbor's cats visits me often, he's a little slut, can't get enough attention. I think his name is Kookaroo? At least I thought that's what the lady said - she lives 2 houses down and we were talking across the yards and driveways. She's got several cats and she calls them all in for feeding time.

They do know you rescued them and I don't think they ever forget. Both of my cats are rescue cats...they do love for a lifetime. My girl, Madde, was given to me at 3 weeks. Her mom was hit by a car. I bottle-fed her with vitamin supplements but, since she didn't receive her mother's milk, she is unusually small. She is approx 6 years old and weighs 2 pounds if I put my big toe on the scale with her. Animals are such a joy and it pleases me we have so many animal lovers on The Ledge.

I haven't had time to upload more pics as requested, but I will. Mrs. Bouvier is scomging around, they were playing this morning, although it's still a bit tense. (Wow - I can sense kitty tension? freak...) Bubba is now allowed to sniff kitty's butt, but only for a few seconds & then it's cruelly taken away. I'll tell ya, it's a trip to see a 75 pound dog back away in fear from a 3 pound cat.

Thanks! :D We got her name from that episode of The Simpsons where Grandpa wants to marry Marge's mom, but Mr. Burns does too. They do the ending scene from The Graduate, but instead it's Grandpa yelling "Mrs. Bouvier! Mrs. Bouvier!" We usually call her Boo.
Cosmo, btw, was for Kramer on Seinfeld. Bubba came wto us with his name, but it suits him well.

That is so cute. Why don't my cats ever look at the computer? Your new cat is obviously a genius. I think his lack of eye has made his other senses sharper. For instance, have you noticed him working in Linux lately?
