Our friend's at In Touch Weekly, who broke the story, are reporting that Brad & Ange's new baby is named Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt.
Aww, congrats to Angie and Brad....I can only imagine how gorgeous this chill will be.

Angelina is known for doing things out of the ordinary which is why we love (or hate) her..... I love her, she's cool.

Gwen Stefani also had her baby. It was a boy they named Kingston. I like Kingston better than Shiloh.

well, Shiloh comes from the biblical city, which makes both names kinda equally strange.

When I named my youngest daughter Shiloh 23 years ago, no one else had even HEARD of that name. now, *sigh*, its everywhere. And its not necessarily a Boy's name contrary to your assertion Tommer...
Just for you Tommer because you'll appreciate this: My oldest daughter's name is Moriah. Yep. Like the Mountain.
Shiloh Nicole and Moriah Lee. I think they sound beautiful

Irishgrl....does it crop up in the Irish vocab? 23 years ago..it must have really stumped a few people..we have a Sian in our family and even now, it's not common, people have a real hard time spelling and pronouncing it! The French found it mindboggling, we had all sorts of interpretations...haha

no, its not Irish/Gaelic. Its from the Holy land...
I personally like the sound of the word "Shiloh" sounds melodic to me.
same thing with "Moriah". when I named my oldest girl Moriah, 27 years ago, no one had ever heard of it. Then in the mid to late 80's Mariah Carey came on the scene, and ruined THAT for me too! I was trying to give my girls unusual names, but when people heard them (like Shiloh's pediatrician's Nurse) they said "Im going to name MY kid that!!"" so, there goes the uniqueness...
oh well
My son is Brendan Reilly. I picked an IRISH name for him LOL!
I had a list of Irish boys' names: Liam, Padraic, Brendan, Kevin, Connor, etc...and I liked Brendan best. Then for a middle name, he is named after my best bud. Cant top that I guess!

It's just one chilling neologism to indicate the rich, famous and moderately talented couple formed by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Why do famous people have to give their children bizarre names? It's so backward. I'm developing such a dislike for people like that.
I think Shiloh is a beautiful name, and to me sounds more feminine than masculine. And it's waaaaay better than a lot of those other celeb baby names:
- Apple and Moses
- Pilot Inspektor
- Bluebell Madonna
- Moxy Crimefighter:distress:
Hate to be a wet blanket, but whatever happened to names like Michael or Laura?

Ive seen material where Jesus is referred to as "Shiloh" but Im with you, Rachel: I think it sounds more feminine than masculine.

Yeah, it's masculine according to two name dictionaries I've looked in including this one:
http://www.behindthename.com/php/search.php?terms=shiloh&nmd=n&gender=both&operator=or
well in the one I found (http://www.weddingvendors.com/baby-names/search/)its either:
Name: Shilo
Origin: Hebrew
Meaning: The one to whom it belongs. In the bible Shiloh is a prophetic name for the Messiah; Also Shiloh is significant
as the site of a crucial battle in the American Civil War.
Name: Shiloh
Origin: Biblical
Meaning: Peace, abundance (name of a city).
Gender:Female
here is another site that says its either (note the little boy/girl icons):

As a matter of absolute rubbishy trivia, Don Henleys first band was called (guess what?) Shiloh!

OK, given that 'Nouvel' is the French masculine word for 'New', are we led to believe that Shiloh Nouvel is a rather masculine way of declaring that your baby daughter is the New Messiah? If so, then these people should be certified :distress:

Isn't it similar to a Muslim naming their child Muhammed? Shiloh is a pretty name. I can't believe I'm writing in this thread because I don't really care about them. But on some level I must be curious cuz I'm here. This is just another case of celebrity elevating the importance of something. In this case the birth of a child, which is world news these days for some reason.
I hope Jen couldn't give a **** less and that she's happy.

Barely. But do you really think people will make fun of The Holy Child in any large quantity? It's not like she's going to be ugly, or have weird clothes, or be poor, she probably won't be dumb.
But maybe if she goes to a rich kid school, or a foreign "she's just like anyone else" school, it could happen.

I wonder if the next one will be named Travelodge Ancien.
This was one I was waiting for. I just knew they'd saddle that kid with a f*cked up look-at-me-I-am-so-unique name.

But is that really unique, SPARKY??
When I was little this poor white trash slow lady (who was actually very nice, in that ignorance is bliss kind of way) had named her son Shiloh. It's an old name, really.
I have five middle names, which is where I got my f*cked up look-at-me-I'm-so-unique attitude.
The problem, of course, is that I totally associate "Shiloh" with PWT. I can't help but think of that nearly retarded, elf like redheaded mom, and her good natured but slow toddler...and her nasally voice calling him....
