Earlier this evening my mother and I attended a presentation by Jean-Michele Cousteau. Afterwards, he signed pictorial coffee table style books called "Oceans" that they had for sale. While standing in line, my mother and I had a conversation about celebrities and autographs. She said some sports stars charge for their autographs. I explained to her about The Goo Goo Dolls, who graciously meet their fans out by the tour buses after most shows and give autographs, hugs and chat... with each and every person in line. I know various celebrities are better than others about random signings on the street and such, many will do premier and red carpet signings... but are there any other bands who do something similar to what The Goo Goo Dolls do? I realize their hey dey is over and all, but I've always been impressed that they do that. Just curious. :p

I've heard some good things about Heart and Elvis but he's dead (does he still count tho?). Lisa Marie seems to be really nice, The Corrs too.

I've always liked that band. Never have seen them live, but I love their music and the singer is a major hottie. :o

It's awesome to hear about stuff like this. It's so great when these people really genuinely have time for their fans. Fair play to them.
Even if I haven't a clue who they are. :o

when i was going to shows regularly (late 80s, early 90s) my best friend and i would regularly hang out by the stage door and tour buses afterwards. we met just about everyone we hoped to (except stevie!!!) - and every single one was gracious and signed autographs (though, i'm not big on autographs, so i didn't get them). but to name a few... pat benatar and neil geraldo, melissa etheridge, indigo girls, john cougar mellencamp, etc etc. i can't remember them all. it seems in recent times, security has become a whole lot tighter (understandably so, as gossip rags and tabloids have become more numerous and ruthless). it's harder to get close now. but i miss the days standing outside the montreal forum waiting for the band... sigh. :o

That's wonderful for the Goo Goo Dolls to continue to do that even with all their success. :) I love hearing things like that.
I stood in line (in the rain) to get Michael Buble's autograph and a hug. The security were NAZIS about cameras, but he didn't *have* to do anything..so it's all good.
And ya'll already know how wonderful I think Justin Guarini is...he stays until every single person has an autograph. He stayed for 2 hours in Beaumont, Texas to sign, take pics, chat, etc. He also stayed at a Wal-Mart back in the day for over 8 hours signing...with only 1 bathroom break too. Annnnnd...he stayed at Six Flags for 5 hours signing. FOUR DAYS until I go to Philly to meet him again. :D
I've not met them, but I've read online that INXS are really great about autographs and pics. :)

Sophie B. Hawkins was a doll. She came out in between sets and signed autographs..since she still had another show to do her manager wouldn't let her talk much, but I got a "what's your name?" and a "thank you" out of her.
So yeah - she's not in her "hey day" either...but it's nice that she made the effort - and she did stay down there to sign autographs for everyone in line..even though she had limited time before her next set and dinner waiting for her :)

The lead singer had a crazy stalker following him around at one point. It freaked him out so bad he was having a hard time with the after show thing, but he kept doing it. That's probably when they added a few more big security dudes to stand around. And they were being very Nazi-ish at the show I went to... with good reason I guess. Yea, I think that's pretty cool too. They know how important it is to the core fans so they keep doing it despite PTSD caused by being stalked. :xoxo:

I can tell you that when I met the Stereophonics they all talked to me for about 5 minutes, let me have my picture taken with them and signed my poster. I was really blown away by how genuinely nice they were.

Well, back when the Peter Green Splinter Group was still operational, they'd come out into the audience after their show and "belly up" to the bar with fans. Yes, even Peter, too.
Here's a picture of me handing Peter my copy of the PGSG's Destiny Road CD to sign. (at the Ventura Theatre in Sept. 2000)

At the Shania Twain concert I was at, she signs autographs the whole time that she sings. She walks around her round stage and people hold the thing that they want signed on her leg while she holds the mic in one hand and signs with the other. She carries a sharpie for the whole show and signs for the whole 2 hours. Its amazing. I was able to score two autographs that nite

Nice picture! That was one show I kick myself for not going to see. They were here in 1998. It was right after Stevie had been to town so I was feeling a bit broke.

Actually, from my experiences with the members of Fleetwood Mac I've met, for a band of their stature, they are very accomodating with the fans.

And when I found out about The Edge Walk, my goal was to get a front row ticket. And when I found out about Silver Springs Emporium, I wanted to know if I could get a top hat, shawl, etc. My dream would be for the Mac to do something like the Goo Goo Dolls after show meet/greet. However, I think their line would be waaayyy too long.
