I know I'm not supposed to bring up business from other message boards, but I read those other boards like the rest of you & I have my favorite posters. But since I can't post on some of those boards, I don't know who those people are. I like these people because they post interesting things or nice pictures or they are funny. Who are they? If you are here, please speak up & introduce yourself!

Someone's user name is Stinky? Now THAT is rich
David, what is with your peculiar, esoteric interests? You crack me up without trying.
By the way, I've always liked Creeping Death's user name. I take it it's from the Metallica song of the same name?

While you're there, you simply must stop at Woodman's outside Kenosha. It's the largest supermarket in... well... it's big. As is everything in it. And the cheese section really can't be beat.
Also, Milwaukee really is a very pretty city. And the Miller Brewery Tour is absolutely worth the trip.
Make sure you buy some fireworks while you're in the state, too. And eat at a Culver's.
Damn, what a magical place. I miss Wisconsin. I need to get my ass back to Chicago one of these days.

NEWS FLASH TO JYQM:
Chicago is in Illinois
Gosh, really? I had no idea... I lived there for four years and always wondered why the Wisconsin postal code was "IL." I always assumed it was because the mailman knew that Wisconsin was some ILl ****.
Dude, I miss Wisconsin, but I don't want to actually live in Wisconsin. I just want it to be close at hand, ready to dazzle me with its myriad charms whenever the fancy should strike me. On a good day, the drive from the northern Chicago suburbs to Milwaukee is exactly the length of a single mix CD:
1. Cheap Trick, "That 70's Show" theme song
2. Van Halen, "Panama"
3. Bruce Springsteen, "No Surrender"
4. Tom Petty, "Runnin' Down A Dream"
5. Nena, "99 Luftballons"
6. Queen, "Fat Bottomed Girls"
7. "Flaming Moe's" from The Simpsons
8. The Darkness, "Friday Night"
9. Neil Young, "Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black)"
10. Cyndi Lauper, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"
11. Foreigner, "Hot Blooded"
12. Whitesnake, "Here I Go Again"
13. Loverboy, "Working For The Weekend"
14. Violent Femmes, "American Music"
15. Fleetwood Mac, "Go Your Own Way"
16. AC(lightningbolt)DC, "Moneytalks"
17. Spin Doctors, "Two Princes"
18. John Denver, "Take Me Home, Country Roads"
19. Thin Lizzy, "The Boys Are Back In Town"

Although, now that college is slowing down for the summer and I have more free time I'll probably start posting on both boards again.

I guess I was confused by you saying "I can always spare one" because I didn't know how you had anything to do with anything. Sorreh. I guess you meant you are that person, and you can spare a head. *snicker*
Well, I have to say, A Cancer with Mars in Leo who is an only child talking to a Leo man about self absorption is kind of funny (you know Linds has Mars in Leo? you know a really high proportion of Presidents have Mars in Leo?).
But I submit you take the cake, as men are naturally more self absorbed, and in the end, the Leo always beats the Cancer for self absorption. However! Point taken, a**hole. But only to be nice. ;) See how I'm willing to be nice???

My favorite is Mars Cheese Castle right off 94 just before Kenosha. The only place I can consistently find my favorite candy, Sweet's cinnamon bears.

Damn, you beat me to it.
The problem with astrology is that it doesn't end in an -ism. If it did, we could reunite it with its sister philosophies - racism and sexism - and have it thoroughly condemned by society at large.
I can't believe they actually still print this stuff in the newspaper every day. Can you imagine if you looked up from your crossword and there was a sidebar saying, "Jewish: This is a good month for you. You will lend money to many people and collect a lot of interest, and your iron grip on the entertainment industry will remain in tact. Don't sweat the small stuff when others question your militant Zionism." Or, "Woman: Today is a 4. As a member of the weaker and less rational sex, you may experience several emotional breakdowns today. Try not to think too hard about politics or science, and things should start looking up tomorrow." Or, "Black: You tend to be lazy and dimwitted, but it's time to start taking some initiative. Start by hijacking someone's car today."
Why she can't just take credit for her own bitchiness is beyond me.
I think I'm pretty good about taking credit for mine.

Because she's always right, and always has been.
Just ask her.:(
Plz. First of all, I was joking around with you. Second, I love how it's always the biggest ***** who accuse me of "always being right", when they know they are "always right" just as much as I am if not more, or else it wouldn't bother them. I believe I've apologized several times on this board when I haven't been right.
Also, it's hilarious that it's always the biggest bitches who call me a bitch. Oh, the irony.
Second, I have the decorum to place people who bug me on ignore, so as to minimize conflict. But those same people seem to keep me off of their ignore list no matter how much they don't like me, ostensibly to take every opportunity to try to insult me, to bring as much negativity to the board as they possibly can. Practically following me around to insult me, it seems. I could be flattered they are seemingly so fascinated with me that they go out of their way to address me - but instead I just think they're pathetic, and wonder why they waste so much time on something they don't like.
Third - I always talk about astrology, and everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but to dismiss something when you obviously know very little about it is odd. For instance, I've never had lobster, so I certainly wouldn't presume to say I don't like it. You know, since I know nothing about how it tastes? And if you did know more, you would know that the horoscopes in the newspaper aren't really what astrology is about.
Fourth, I wasn't using astrology to make an excuse, I was using it as a tool, a web of language, to explain an aspect of my behavior. And I was always talking about my astrological aspects, that are a part of me, which is hardly deflecting responsibility for my behavior. In fact, it is the opposite, I ascribed behaviors to myself. I simply used astrological terms to describe them. Which you would have already realized and understood if you had used your logic and reading comprehension skills, instead of your reactionary and insulting ones.

I must not be considered to have much of a sense of humour, because it seems even when I say something with tongue firmly planted in cheek -- or try to use humour to diffuse a tense situation -- someone mistakes my intentions and thinks the comment was meant in a harsh way.The important thing to me is that we don't blame the medium; it isn't language or message boards or typefonts or my ISP that is at fault for a ****ed-up message. It's the fault of the recipient of that message!
Say I say to all you recipients of posts (which is just about all of us, no?) to GO BACK & REREAD THE POST & PAY ATTENTION to RHETORICAL ELEMENTS & TONE & STANCE & all that other stuff that separates the literate from the subliterate.
AND STOP BLAMING THE POSTER for not making himself clear!!     :] :p  :D
Now this is true except in those cases in which the poster really did **** it up. But since that doesn't describe either me or you, Jonathan Stew, we have nothing to worry about on our end.

Well, I cant speak for anyone else (unlike SOME people) all I can say is that I myself dont make it a POINT to follow Amber around, its just that she's in every thread there is so its kinda hard NOT to go where Amber goes.
in point of fact, I dont have anyone on ignore because I truly dont dislike anyone that much. not even Amber. In fact, there's much she says that I do agree with. And I said as much in the "positive" thread. That doesnt mean, however, that Im not going to call em like I see em, because I will. Just like anyone else here on this board.
btw: last weekend when I was trying to help you with your speaker, it was truly a humanitarian gesture, completely apart from any disagreements we have from time to time. If I bug you to the point that you must put me on ignore, that's YOUR issue not mine.
and another thing: I happen to believe that Astrology does explain much about human behavior that is otherwise unexplainable. Nobody ever said it was the end-all or be-all but its not quackery either.

The members of Fleetwood Mac could have a great conversation with their song titles.
Jeremy: I believe my time ain't long.
Mason: I wonder why.
Stevie: I don't want to know.
Christine: I do!
Jeremy: Hellhound's on my trail.
Lindsey: I'm so afraid...
Christine: Hold me!
Lindsey: Go your own way!
Christine: As long as you follow...
Lindsey: Can't go back.
Christine: (dissatisfied) Why?
Lindsey: Never going back again.
Christine: (mystified) Did you ever love me?
Lindsey: What makes you think you're the one?
Christine: Say you love me.
Lindsey: Not that funny.
Christine: Come a little bit closer... You make loving fun...
Lindsey: Peacekeeper!
Peter: Looking for somebody?
Welch: Angel!
Stevie: Angel!
Welch: Born enchanter!
Walker: I'm a roadrunner!
Jeremy: Stop messin' 'round!
Lindsey: That's enough for me. Say goodbye!
Stevie: Goodbye, baby.
Christine: Heroes are hard to find.

I don't think anybody "follows her around." She's delusional if she thinks anybody gives a damn enough to do that. I post in many of the same threads that she posts in simply because I tend to stick to the Chit Chat forum and she frequents it as well.
In point of fact, I dont have anyone on ignore because I truly dont dislike anyone that much.
I don't have anyone on ignore simply because it would annoy me if I was getting only part of a conversation, even if the part that is missing is coming from someone I dislike.
Besides, my opinions of certain forum members have changed over time. Some people who I liked initially I no longer feel the same way about and vice versa. Homie can attest to the latter, and I think the feeling is mutual in that particular case. If I'd put him on ignore after our initial quarrel, I would've missed out on his more recent posts and that would have been a shame.

As an aside, I loved that movie -- definitely a childhood favorite.

You're a cruel, cruel man, JohnnyStew.
First you get me thinking about that stupid song, then you tell me I'm wrong and you really meant one from a movie I haven't seen in years and barely remember. So of course I start struggling to recall that as well...

Mick: Rim Shot!
Jyqm, you are a total dork, and I love you for it. Of course it's totally platonic man-love! ;)
Mick should have had me write "These Strange Times" for him. I'd have done a much better job of it.

II don't have anyone on ignore simply because it would annoy me if I was getting only part of a conversation
This is what I don't get about "ignore" too. I'd hate to miss snippets of conversation in a thread I was interested in even if I didn't particularly like some of the comments. Also, and this is not directed at you or Amber or anyone else, but can't a poster just ignore comments made in a thread themselves? You know like self-imposed ignore without having to have the comments omitted from the page? And moreover, I can't imagine being so miffed at someone or their comments that I would HAVE to have their posts on ignore due to my smoldering rage,. All you have to do is scan over them. I think the ignore feature is used more as a form of silent protest for a user than anything else. I guess it gives the "ignorer" a certain kind of self-satisfaction but it seems kind of like a useless thing to employ .

No, no I can't usually self ignore. Largely because the people I have on ignore have purposely tried to bait me several times, they don't like me and that is their idea of fun. They like to call me names, etc, and disagree with me on principal rather than so much because they really disagree with me. They follow me around to insult me. I'm not sure if that has ever been the case for you, and I do understand your point.
If I see a post by someone, it is difficult for me not to read it. Which is usually a good thing, because then I read everyone's posts in a thread.
I also have people on ignore partly for the sake of the other people on the board. I don't know if you've met me, but if someone purposely insults me or tries to bait me, or even if they say something lame, I'm pretty likely to want to say something back and argue with them. But I know that arguing with these particular people is futile, so I might as well skip the whole process. It's negative for me, and it's negative for other board members. Ostensibly it should be negative for these people as well, but like I said before they seem to like it. And I don't put people there lightly, these people have proven over and over either their bad intentions, intentions to argue with me for no other purpose than they don't like me or want to irritate me - and/or have said so many things that I think are irritating and lame and illogical or rude that it is easier just to put them on ignore.
See what I'm sayin?
Those are the only people I have on ignore, I don't go ignoring people willy nilly.
And I have to be honest, if I irritate someone that much I'd prefer they put me on ignore, too, rather than constantly bitching at me.

I get it. And you're right, some people enjoy baiting and I guess it's hard to ingore that when it happens time and time again.
Well, as far as rolling your eyes and moving on - I'm sure you have more self control, or a stronger ignore function in your head - but if I'm going to ignore them anyway, why not make it easier and just put them on ignore? Why read their stupid crap at all? I'm very thenthitive, you know! Seriously, I'm sensitive in the fact that I could get raging pissed and start calling people c**** (which I never use that word) and stuff, and most people here don't want to see big stupid arguments all the time. I don't get the ignore-list thing either and I would never use it for the reasons mentioned above, by other people.
On the other hand, (and I am really sorry to interfere), I don't get how it is possible to dislike someone so much to put them on ignore (or admit it in public), just because of some posts they write on an internet message board. I can see how you can agree/disagree or even get frustrated over something someone writes, but to me, that's about it.
There are some views expressed in the Ledge (and in another forum I write as well) that I don't agree with or that I might find outrageous or whatever, but I don't think I would dislike someone just because of that.
Or for that matter, I don't think I would ever tell someone I don't like them to their face. Especially someone I had never met in person.

I didn't get it when i first started posting here, either. But since then there have been some mighty debates, some mean spirited posts, and some people who don't care about being polite. Personal attacks, etc. There have also been people who took my pic from this message board in order to make fun of me/pretend they were me in other online places because of arguments. That's pretty creepy.
Basically, I have to invoke the "walk in my shoes" argument, or the "if you were me" argument.
You, of course, feel differently, but I'm not you and you're not me, and that's fine.
Also, I don't get what the big deal is about putting people on ignore. It's the same as ignoring their posts, but a lot easier.

Well, debates and discussions do surface, and have become very heated at times. I am responsible for anything I said and any parts I had in those debates,
but I prefer not to carry on the emotions of those debates indefinitely - I have a hard time holding a grudge. And so when the debate dissipates, my desire to argue with the people involved, or any anger I had towards them, basically goes away, until I am provoked again. And I don't want to be provoked for no good reason, when there is no good issue or debate to discuss.
Thus, ignore is the best route for me in some cases. It's also the fact that I know myself, I know I have a quick temper, and don't want to "use" it, or become angry, or use unkind words, for no good reason - because I am basically a kind hearted person for the most part. And I'd like to develop that quality in myself more than I want to develop anger, or the ability to insult someone.
So I remove the temptation.

Oh my friend the Ignore list.
I think I made a few enemies a while back with some ranting/getting things off my chest. But a lot of my previous issues have been fixed by the wonder of ignore.
Some people just aren't good at "letting things go by" or ignoring on one's own...if a post is there I must read it...even when I know it'll just annoy me/piss me off...my life and blood pressure have been so much more pleasant since I've actually starting using the ignore.
Of course as per my last rant/rave session I'm pretty sure I landed myself on a few ignore lists. And that's fine too :)

My one is rock solid. As you know, I've had one or two moments of removal- but, I'm back to solid and probably never going back. My number two is primarily out of frustration at thinking that the poster is actually going to post something interesting but, in the end, it just ends up being the same old bull****.

I really love Sharona, but jeezus. Didn't someone around here say that her makeup is the culprit?? That reminds me of an excerpt from my favorite I Love Lucy episode "Charm School":
MISS EMERSON: Do you always wear that color powder?
LUCY: {look of shock}
MISS EMERSON: Oh now, I don't mean how that sounded- here at Miss Emerson's we strive for a fresh, natural look and that powder gives you a very weird, unnatural look.
{pause as Lucy's eyes open wider and wider - Lucy swallows and looks towards Miss Emerson}
LUCY: I'm not wearing powder.

(I had asked you what you mean by form but) never mind, I think I got it :wavey:Sorry, elie. I mean things like:
1. typography
2. use of goofy, distracting **** on the posts
3. one-word responses
4. all the anti-netiquette stuff that makes reading message boards a serious chore
So there's all of that stuff that doesn't directly pertain to polemics or disagreements. I have about five people on my ignore list, & I would say it's a combination of people I dislike because of rudeness or other reasons & people whose posting habits make me fidget.
You don't have to say you 're sorry, David:) After my initial post, I figured what you meant..(I won't say how, though...)
But -having 5 people on ignore- doesn't it bother you that you only read part of a conversation?
I'd love to know your various reasons.
A few times it's been because somebody just took up some snarky condescending attitude with me for a bunch of posts in a row, and I just got fed up with rolling my eyes and put them on ignore for a few days.
The ones who were on there longer were on there because it seemed like most of their posts were one or two line comments that were just stupid and annoying and not funny, with lots of exclamation points and capital letters, and only directed at each other or one or two other people, and I got tired of wading through so much stupid crap. Elie asked if it's annoying only being able to part of a conversation; believe me, there was nothing lost by not seeing these posts. But then recently I saw other people were responding to them and they seemed to have more interesting things to say, so those people came off my list in the past week. This was all on the Stevie forum.

It's the same reason why I rarely buy ice cream....
I just want to commend you for doing this. Not only online, but in the real world it is such a good thing to want to nurture the nice parts of yourself, rather than embrace the bitchy/****ty side. Too many people are *proud* of being mean, and I think what you're saying shows much more maturity.

I guess I'm just wondering why you keep reminding people. I've honestly never seen anyone point out repeatedly that they're on someone's ignore list. Does it really bother you?
Not that I really give a ****. :D
I know I'm a little late in responding to this, but I looked back on my posts and actually (unless I missed something) I, like Irishgrl, only mentioned it once. It just seems repeated to you because both of us did it.
I would be perfectly content to be on someone's ignore list if that particular someone just let things drop rather than ranting about me in a public forum to someone else (which is the only reason why I know I'm on the list). But that's not what happened.

Thanks! How nice! :woohoo: Easier said than done, that's for sure, but I keep on trying, and probably always will need to. Like Tower, I'm kinda sharp tongued, my parents raised me that way.
This world definitely has enough negative energy, and to try to be that way, for fun, is not my bag. I get mad enough without trying to.
blah blah, anyway, thanks again. :wavey:
*Admittedly, I have been proud of the quality of some of my snarks when I've been provoked, but from a purely academic standpoint - never the fact in itself that I snarked.
