I agree about "The Chain" and "Money".
Also, the intro of a Tindersticks song, "A Night In" (if I remember correctly)

Oooh, good one. How did I forget this?
Most anything Charlie Mingus ever laid to tape.
As far as Mr. McVie, I actually think "The Chain" is rather overrated as far as the bassline goes. Sure, it's a cool riff, but that's really all it is. I don't think it really showcases his talents the way something like "Smile At You" does, or the Live performance of "Oh Well" (whoa!), or the Dance performance of "Say You Love Me," or "Miles Away" (whew!). That last one might be my favorite McVie bassline, actually.

Many FM songs are such. Look at Dreams - the bass line in that is fab.

Another great one.
And while we're on the subject, "Go Your Own Way" has a great bassline too.
Anything not John McVie?

LOL - I think that thickness makes the song - but to each their own

It's the only Fleetwood Mac song where I actually turn the bass down when it comes on.

I agree. It gives the song a nice, rich, warm tone. That bass line and Stevie's vocals make that song the greatness that it is.

I thought of another one:
She's Lost Control---Joy Division

You could list 90% of the New Order songs here. Why? Because most of them contain LEAD BASS, with the traditional basslines often taken care of by sequencers. If any bassist ever dominates a band in the minds of listeners, it's Peter Hook.
Case in point:

Again, 90 % of them. Why shouldn't a bass do what a lead guitar does?

I totally agree! That is why I love Joy Division (never got as into New Order, but I still like them) the bass is right up front and center like a lead guitar.
That is also why I like Nomeansno, (Canadian punk band from the 80's) Rob Wright's hooky, meaty bass is spectacular! I guess you could put 90% of their songs on this list too, and most notably, "Rags and Bones."
So What --- Miles Davis (Ron Carter)
I do believe you mean Paul Chambers, Mr. D!

Sure, if you're a fan of the "slap bass" variety!
Rod Stewart's music (sans The Faces) makes me feel the need for a shower after listening to it .
