View Full Version : What is the oldest friendship on the ledge?

David
04-28-2006, 03:34 PM
Of all the friendships formed ON the ledge, what is the longest-lived one? (but it has to still be a friendship--it can't have broken up in recent years)

since I never really thought about it until this question was posed.

Not many people from 2001 still around, and even less from the pre-2001 Ledge.

I've only been on since 2003  but I've made a few friends online and off and I still consider them friends.

How long (and with whom) is your longest ledgie friendship, David?

Patti

I still have several friends and acquaintances back from 1997, around the time of The Dance, which was when I first found the Penguin and the Ledge. Wow, it's been 9 years. Hard to believe.

How long (and with whom) is your longest ledgie friendship, David?I don't remember. Hayley, I think, or Les, neither of whom hangs out here much today. Our friendships go back probably to around 1998 from the ledge or maybe 1997. I can't remember the year.

Well, David, I just can't seem to shake ya. (not that I'd WANT to) We've been yapping about Fleetwood Mac since...Time or thereabouts, right? Or was it even BEFORE that?

Hayley's been around here since she switched from tricycle to bicycle.

Even met my beautiful WIFE here back in 1997.

Sadly, many of those who were around in the early days left and haven't come back. (or maybe they HAVE, under a different screen name without letting on of their previous identity)

However we didn't become friends on the ledge, so that's why I didn't include you. I was thinking of people I met specifically on the ledge. Whereas you & I were both posting on amfm back pre-reunion days, along with sMac & Nepotist chris & remember that nice guy Chris Small who lived in Davis? Wonder what ever happened to him.

Sad but true! Ten years this fall, maybe? that I've been posting on the Ledge. Not a lot of people left from those days- you, David, Johnny Stew, maybe? Also, Torri was the first Ledgie I ever met in 1998 and I love her and miss her as much today as ever.

There's a lot more friendships that have broken up or I've lost contact with in recent years. I started posting on the Ledge so young, and my life has changed so much since then. I started posting when I was 14, and I'm almost 24 now. I have a career, and a cat, I will soon be buying my first couch!, am going to graduate school, and I plan on entangling my amazing boyfriend into making an honest woman of me as soon as humanly possible. It's crazy.

As much as we've disagreed over the years (all in good fun, mind you, it's never been angry/bitter like some of our fellow Ledgiemites)...I always think of you as the Ledge-father-figure. Kinda like the Mick Fleetwood of the message boards. Ok...that was kinda weird, so I'll go now.

for me, it's Johnny Stew...back in 97/98, it was him, Travis, someone else I can't remember to save my life and me that I remember. Travis still comes on once in a while...

...ahh...the days of the "keepers" of various Stevie/FM items and putting together the Crystal Visions tape...good times!

I was the keeper of Sisters of the Moon and Stevie's moon necklace. I remember someone was the keeper of Christine's neon green cup from The Dance video.

You sure did Lis, in fact, it was the photo that appears at the top of Lindsey's forum. The one where he's looking down at his guitar. It was a great pic. I think you did that for the low, low price of $20! haha...I still have it too!

chiliD was one of the first people I started talking with in the early days (back when he was "Surf City Steve")... I loved picking his brain on all things Fleetwood Mac... and we're still friends. Same with David O., George (who no longer posts on the Ledge, but we're still good friends), Patti, and a small handful of others.

There are also some Ledgies who I really don't get a chance to talk with much anymore, but I still consider them to be friends. :)

We have "keepers" on the Joaquin Phoenix boards that I sometimes visit. I'm not a keeper of anything, though.

However, it wouldn't surprise me if you X-philes are the originators of them. Wasn't it the X-files fans that originated the term "shipper"?

Don't forget about Marty & Lisa! They were there back in the day, too! There was also Joe Admire (the guy who founded AMFM) and Jeff Kenney (who had the Chain Gang, now the FM discography). Then, later, there was Jyqm and Homer. Chris small was a great guy. People sometimes accused us of being the same person, as our posts had a similar tone. Which is partially why I became a sarcastic prick those first few years (damn you Google, damn you)! I think I got him a copy of John McVie's Gotta Band at Best Buy. THE funniest thing I remember about that newsgroup, though, was when somebody asked about music for "Songbird" and somebody who now runs an official site said that he had never heard of that song, but maybe the person was thinking about Stevie's "Nightbird."

Of course, there was that OTHER element, too. James P. Nalbandia, anyone? Or, the oddly similar Jaydee69?

But, here's perhaps my most legendary, and oddly ironic in hindsight, post EVER! (Funnier, still, that there still seems to be many of the same debates going on today.)

I had an interesting weekend.

On Friday, I called up Mick and Bekka's management company as well as John McVie's management company and both said that Fleetwood Mac has broken up. My personal take is that it was a mutual decision.

However, I called Stubner management a second time, and the secretary said that they were on hiatus. I'm not really sure what's going on. I don't know if it's just that they don't have any current plans or if it's a premanent thing. What I do know is that there is not going to be a reunion of the Rumours line-up (in fact, he laughed at the suggestion).

So, I think that we can end all discussions about an Odd Chance Of A Rumours Reunion and Bekka Singing Stevie Songs. The point is that they're, at least for the time being, history.

Hey, at least I put "at least for the time being" in the tag. I mean, I did leave the door open for such a thing...Okay, more like I propped the door open with a used text book from a class I dropped that is now being used as a door prop, coaster, and serving tray, but the point is the door wasn't completely closed.

Have you tried finding an agent?

I'm undecided on the whole agent thing. I know I could probably have better luck and get published by a bigger firm if I go with an agent, but that also means giving up a chunk of whatever profits I make from my hard work. Also, going with an agent means having to find one that A) Is willing to represent my work and B) I trust enough to do it well.

Yes Amber. I am a Macophile! LMAO! Actually, I've yet to encounter one person met online that wasn't a youngen! Sounds sick, but it's totally accidental. Well, first I met Tiff, she was I wanna say 15 or 16, so I guess that makes my timeline incorrect. Upon finding out her age (I was talking a storm bout meeting her on my next trip to LA) she tells me how old she is. Stunned, I ask if I can speak w/ her mother. Explain I am a married normal (depending on who you ask)woman, and was so enthralled w/ her interest in FM/SN I wasn't thinking age :o

Later after befriending Tiff, I meet this other guy at a show. He and his mom. He & I hit it off. He's friggin' 16! SOB! Can I meet others MY AGE!?!?!?!?!? So they both sorta give me a hard time...but all w/ love :p

Did you know Tiff for a long time when I met you guys at the L.A. rehearsal? That was just over 3 years ago. I actually knew of Tiff through Mick's Board at first, then came here.
