He's coming to UB in September & I will probably be able to get tix pretty easily.

So, should I go? If so, why?

I'm leaning toward yes, because this is most likely a once in a lifetime opportunity. On the other hand, I don't know much about Buddhism or the man himself. I know he's for peace. Maybe that's reason enough?

Well, if you're interested in spirituality at all, I'd say go. I think he tailors his books and talks to broad audiences, so you don't need to know much about Buddhism.

I think it is a great opportunity. Spiritual discussions are always interesting to me.

I find it inane that you'd have to pay to go see this guy. Great stuff.

So, should I go? If so, why?Because he's a flashy dresser! Apparently, too, he's oddly charismatic. So I would say, Go for the theater.

Maybe that's reason enough?Ridiculous. That's not reason for anything. Everybody is for peace, whatever that means. Even people who wage wars do so (so they say) to create or ensure peace. Nobody wages war as an end in itself.

So I say go see this guy who wears the cosmic tablecloths for the sheer theatricality of it! Let me know what you think of the entire vivid tableau! :wavey:

I'm glad to see the religion-bashing is on an "equal opportunity" basis, at least.

I've heard he's a very interesting speaker. I would go in a second. Plus, the whole political situation is interesting as well. While you're there, marvel at the fact that he has the same B-day as Dumbya.
I don't think you'll regret it or be bored.

How do you figure that one, Ms. Cleo?

Yeah, I chuckled a bit. It's only $15 though.

I agree. I will probably go. I can't see myself saying "man, what a waste of my time, that Dalai Lama sure did suck!"

How do I figure it? Well, I know both of their birthdays. I didn't really "figure" it, just remembered one date.

Before you go, Paula, maybe watch the old "Razor's Edge" movie just to put you in that mystic frame of mind (but don't botch it & watch the Bill Murray remake instead).

I would absolutely go. Out of all the spiritual leaders in the world, he is the the one who makes me think of "divine" when I see him. His life story is pretty fascinating, IMO. He had to flee Tibet or be killed.

Plus, you might get to meet Richard Gere...if he shows up.

I saw him in Melbourne a few years ago (one of the few acts NOT to record with the MSO).

A wonderful speaker, and very charismatic - even in a full to capacity 15,000 seat venue.

He was introduced by a guy who back in the early 60s had been travelling through India with friends and just dropped in to see if the Dalai Lama was in - he was, and gave them an audience of several hours. Probably couldn't do that these days.

Always thought the Lama was a great argument in support of reincarnation - what are the chances of picking a 2 year old and getting some one so good at their "job"?

yeah, i was at his (very humble) palace in Dharamsala in July. it was like a day or two before his birthday, so he was due to come back there, and the entire town got practically jammed by buddhists and tourists, so we just fled the town coz it was just too damn overcrowded.
