View Full Version : Ask a Ledgie a Question

I think it would be cool for everyone to ask a fellow ledgie a question pertaining to Stevie or Fleetwood Mac--something topical for this forum. Obviously, keep it kind & good-natured. Just have fun with it. If the ledgie you ask a question of doesn't answer, I guess you can ask another ledgie a different question!

I'll start:

Romy, would you say that, living in Italy, your interest in Stevie is increased by a sense of Stevie as "Other"--as a composer who has always been on the fringes of the creative life in Italy (as opposed to a central figure in the late 1970s in the United States, for example)? The reason I ask this is that I have long had a vague sense that my own interest in Stevie has sometimes increased over the years in those periods of her waning popularity. She seems somehow more special at these times.

I'd like to ask David a question. Who would you prefer to be stuck in a lift with: Christine, Stevie or Bekka?

I'd like to ask David a question. Who would you prefer to be stuck in a lift with: Christine, Stevie or Bekka?Hmm.......Bekka. she's quite a bit younger than the other two & she's prolly friendlier, too. I don't think I could stand listening to stevie in an elevator...plus she'd prolly have that lady with her, that second skin...that personal ass't or whatever the hell she is, always lurking about like hamlet's ghost. And christine is a cold fish & prolly wouldn't say two words to me in an elevator. so yes my answer is bekka, by process of elimination....as long as bekka didn't start singing. Who wants a patty labelle shriekfest in an elevator?

How many Stevie Nicks solo shows have you been to? How many Fleetwood Mac shows have you been to? Do you still have all your ticket stubs, Tshirts, etc. from all of those shows?

I think Bekka is probably more practical too. She might be able to fix the lift and get you both out of there.

I'll ask skcin a question now:

If Stevie was playing a stadium gig and Lindsey was playing a tiny club gig on the same night in your town, which would you decide to go to and why?

Interesting question. I know what you mean, when I speak of my love for her music she's definitely perceived as "other", but that isn't a relevant element in my interest for her. The artist she was in seventies and eighties, for instance isn't as intriguing for me (with some exceptions like Storms, That's Alright, Gold Dust Woman, Joan Of Arc) as the artist she became from the mid nineties, because now I find in her music as a composer and as a performer a more nuanced, violent and deep way to talk of feelings, life, other human beings, that put in a less reassuring and more complex light also some of her previous work. Hope it makes sense...

David:

How many Stevie Nicks solo shows have you been to? How many Fleetwood Mac shows have you been to?Jeez I really don't know. But it isn't some outlandish number. People nowadays like torri & davemn & bill gamelson have essentially camp-followed whole tours, racking up huge numbers of gigs they've been to in only a single year. I do know that within a certain era, I saw essentially all the appearances in my state. My big concert years for fm & sn were 79 to 86, having seen some shows as far back as 76. I saw fleetwood play at pauley at ucla & at ucsb in 77. I would say 87 to the present, not big years for me: although I think I saw every tour except last year's. The photo in my sig is the Cow Palace in 79, & I saw those shows & got a couple of photos.
Do you still have all your ticket stubs, Tshirts, etc. from all of those shows?I have a good amount of my stuff, but I threw away another good amount back in the 1980s when I moved for school. I had some cool shirts, which I gave to a friend for an art project. She cut them all up into sort of arts & crafts pieces & then gave them back to me. So I still have several of those pieces, like the irvine meadows city of hope benefit & the hollywood bowl with the palm trees & the tough on toxics benefit & the mulholland tomorrow benefit (I had a lot of shirts with the dates of the gig on them) & several of the really nice bootleg t-shirts they used to sell in the parking lot (you'd buy them as you were sitting in your car waiting for the crowd to exit the lot).

I'm interested in hearing how fans think about her in countries where she isn't the huge cultural force.

I was about to type in "the Stevie show, duh" and then I stopped myself. I've seen Stevie solo 4 times, but I've never seen Lindsey solo at all, let alone at a small club. So, although my first instinct was to say Stevie (since I am a bigger fan of hers than LB's) I'd have to go with Lindsey.

wow. a question for lil ole me?! :D

I had just graduated high school and spent the summer with my aunt. I had been seeing the ads for The Dance on MTV and I mentioned it to her and she was excited and said we had to watch it. So, the summer goes by and the concert night comes up; she invited some friends over and we sat back and watched. I was really enjoying it...and then the first song Stevie sang, GDW, started. I was like, that's a cool intro...then she started singing. It was that yell that really got me...the intensity in it and the fierceness that captured me. And I loved the long hair, the dress and the boots and of course the shawl. By the time Rhiannon started I was verklempt. I ran out the next day and bought every single FM and Stevie album I could find except Timespace and Street Angel, which I got later. And I've been hooked since. At the time my #1 diva was Barbra Streisand and I was more into AC/easy listening. Stevie opened up something in me and the more I listened/saw her the more I just fell hoplessly in love with everything about her. As is typical of me, when I find something I like, I devour every single bit of info and collect everything related to that. I joined the ledge shortly after that when they were still selling demos/videos and I spent I think $150 and got about 15 cassettes of demos/live stuff and 10 videos of various stuff. I remember like it was yesterday the day the box arrived. I still watch those tapes today. Poor Babs has been demoted to #2. :p

So, to make a long story short (or a short story long): Summer of 1997 and it was the voice.

Thank god for The Dance (and the ledge)...I couldn't imagine life without Stevie.

more...more...this is fun!

Where did you get those great new photos of Stevie?
And how are they suddenly "surfacing" after all these years???  :wavey: :)

David - please don't be mad. I'm going to start a thread just like this in Chit Chat. It's fantastic & I don't want it to die out. Not to say, of course, that this one can't continue or anything.

In fact, here's one for WelshwitchPMD (Pattie): Does your dad like Mac too? What does he think about you going to all those shows?

Lindsey. There are way too few opportunities to see Lindsey solo. The whole Stevie experience for me has become more of a pilgramage these days.

I wouldn’t say that he was a fan but he does like the music. I guess that would be big since he is/was a musician. Just last week Lindsey’s Soundstage was shown on our local PBS station and my Dad was watching his TV and said to me ‘ hey, your friend is on” and sure enough it was Lindsey.:)
He gets worried when I go away but he knows that it makes me happy so he is cool with it.
