Thanks as always, Lis (and Joh, of course!)! Two things:
1) Interesting that he seems somewhat "probably, maybe" hesitant to play with Peter and/or Jeremy again. Especially given how much he still loves the blues, and given his later answer about how much he liked playing clubs - the perfect venue for any original Mac reunion gigs.
2) Dave Walker?!?!?! He's got soundboards from 1973?!?!?! I know nothing about dealing with those casettes, but somebody get him that information!
Of course "The Band" would never release any of these gems. But John, if you can, please please please get these out to the fans who are dying to hear them!

Anyone have any suggestons about the handling of old cassettes? If you send it to me, I'll gladly pass on the info to him. Thanks!! :) Why doesn't he send the whole kit & kaboodle to his old pals Leo Rossi & Ken Caillat, who may or may not still be at 5.1 Entertainment. That facility used to transfer & archive old program material--lots of vintage tapes, too, & lots of analog-to-digital conversions.
It would be nice to get that stuff saved for posterity, not to mention fan consumption. It seems to be an uphill battle fans have with members of the band & execs, however. The people who own this material just don't believe it has any value or use, so it sits languishing decade after decade while the oxide on the magnetic tape disintegrates irreparably.
Look what Ken had to say several years ago about this topic:
“We are audio detectives looking for these multitracks,” laughs Caillat. “We don't want to know about a safety copy or a DA-88. There have been great tracks we were approved to do that we've passed on because they weren't original. We would like to make a plea, by the way. There are actually multitracks out there in people's garages, like those Barbra Streisand tapes that were found in the street. If you see some, call us, call the label — call somebody! Because there are gold nuggets out there that could rot away in some hot garage!” (www.hwy1pro.com/pages/articles/mixonline.htm)

The Band has no plans to release anything like this. So maybe I'll start a company, sell them on E-bay, piss the band off and make a fortune. (There goes the Tour!)
All the Best! John

Oh, if only... I hate to say it, but I'd rather have the soundboards. And I think this is the most telling statement he's made about the band yet.
John rocks. I'm changing my screenname to "McVieeed"

As long as Ken only was in charge of preserving them and not distributing them, that would be cool. Unless we all want to sign another worthless petition, that is.

Honestly, I wish John had been doing interviews all this time. (I realise he's done some over the years, but not enough it seems!)

I think this is just the best type of forum for John to be 'interviewed' in. If you'd sat him in a room w/ Lindsey, Mick and Stevie and asked these questions, you would never in a million years have gotten the responses we've gotten here. He is amazing. :xoxo:

I totally agree with that. I could care less about an oldies tour, but I'd love those soundboards!! It sounds like he has tapes from as far back as the Penguin tour. I'd sure pay alot to hear those.

If the shows are on regular/plain ol' audio cassettea, I would gladly volunteer to do some transfers from tape to CDR...Since it already is kinda of a hobby for me.

I know Christy. The question is WHEN????? Lindsey has been saying that he is releasing a solo album and doing a tour now for over 2 years. I hate to get my hopes up again.

Lis, please pass along to John how much we'd (ok, ok, *I'd*) REALLY like to hear live material from the Weston/Walker & Mystery To Me era!
:blob2:
And, pass along my email address to him so I can work a deal with him for copies of any CD transfers of those cassettes he makes. (2% kidding; 98% serious  )

This is pretty much what I told John, that LB has been doing this for awhile. He wrote me today that he believes Lindsey does have an album coming out soon-- some new material, 'Plus a tour'. I think that's all he really knows...?

I'll head up the "bitter cynicism" team, then. Meetings are the second Monday of every month.
Well, except for next month, I just don't think I'm ready to hold the meeting next month.
Actually, I'm gonna need a while to get everything in order, so maybe we should just put it off until the end of the summer.
If I don't hold a meeting by then, though, I promise, we'll totally start right after Christmas. 2007 will be the Year of Meetings! Definitely.

Why would The Band be releasing old Fleetwood Mac soundboard recordings? Did they run out of recordings with Dylan or something?

John has asked me to thank everyone who offered helpful info on the tape cleaning situation. After the move, he says he'll try and give them a listen (as hopefully that will now be be possible without destroying them!)
So thanks again!! ;)

Ok....Ive been debating on asking this question just because I don't want to sound too snooty, rude, or invasive. Plus with it being John I think i'll get somewhat of a wise remark back, but i'm not sure. Tell me What you think.
I wanted to ask:
Would there be any chance that on the next tour, us Die Hard Fleetwood Mac fans could get a 1 to 2 song influcence for the set list? John you have the connections to make it work! :D

I don't think that sounds snotty or rude at all. It's a valid question and hey, who knows...perhaps he'll answer "Yes, you can! We'll ask your opinions for the setlist on the next tour!"
Wow, sorry about that. I'm now back from the alternate universe I was visiting.

It seems to me that they don't even really bother to ask John HIS opinion, let alone ours. And he seems very happy to go along w/ whatever they decide to do; he just wants to play and not make waves. I think he said something along those lines in the 1st Q&A-- Here it is, I found it--
"I'm quite happy to let the others pick out the set. It's quite a balancing act. Figuring out whose songs, the tempo's and how they feel in the set. The length of the set, etc. There's quite enough "input" without my "two pennysworth". I'm just glad to be there, playing."
So, sadly, I don't think much would come of any requests made! :(

I totally understand that, but I think this could be a little different. We "ledgies" are asking him directly if anything like that could ever happen. I wanted to also enforce something along the lines of "a lot of the fans here pay big money to be up front at the shows and some of us travel around the US to see you guys." That kind of makes it sound like we deserve to maybe have one or two of our favorite songs in the set. IM HAVING TROUBLE PHRASING THIS AS YOU CAN SEE!!!
