So here we are knee deep in april/ late spring and no metion of the "forthcoming" cd!
Do you guys think we're gonna get a Recycled Gift of Screws, if we get a new cd at all?
I can see it now:
The long awaited cd is released and ends up being "gift of screws".
Resounding "Ohhhhooooo" among fans. Man did we get screwed into thinking we'd get new music!"
I just hope the long wait is worth it.

I won't be at all surprised if Lindsey never releases anything at all. However, if he does release something, it will have to have at least a handful of songs we haven't heard yet. After all, nearly half of the Gift of Screws songs ended up on Say You Will, and a bunch of what remains are Stones covers, plus the reworked Donovan song. That leaves just 7 original tracks left in the vault that we know of: "Gift Of Screws," "Deep Dense," "My Little Demon," "Shuffle Riff," "Twist Of Fate," "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind" and "Down On Rodeo." I suppose if he threw on some of the covers, that'd be enough for an album, but considering how "Shut Us Down" appeared out of nowhere, I'm sure he's got some other stuff laid down that we don't know about.
At the very least, I hope that "Gift Of Screws," "Shuffle Riff," "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind" and "Down On Rodeo" get to see the light of day someday. Any album containing those four tracks would get rave reviews from me, and I can't imagine many critics would disagree.

Honestly, I dont think he's going to release anything. I think anything else that we get from Lindsey will be within the context of what is left of Fleetwood Mac.

Speaking of covers, maybe he might include the long-ago recorded cover of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" which is incredible...and I've only heard a 30 second clip.

yeah on the tracklist, it'll be just in front of his amazing, unparalleled, hypnotic version of Here Comes the Sun! YAY!

I try to be optimistic but its hard to do with the members of this group sometimes (excluding John and Mick! haha)
Here's what would be perfect in my lame arse opinion:
summer/fall 2006: Lindsey solo album and tour
Fall 2006: Stevie album and tour (there's still time!)
spring/summer 2007: New Mac album and tour
Fall 2007: Mirage, and Tango remasters!
Spring 2008: wrap up of the 40th anniversary Mac tour with a 2nd or 3rd leg
Summer/Fall 2008: Buckingham Nicks album and tour

I think Lindsey already has a band set up for a tour.
Quote from the last batch of Q and As from John McVie 04/21/2006. Maybe that is a good sign.
Oh and if you are reading this Lindsey remember Providence, Rhode Island as a stop on your tour, please. :)

He may have his band personnel in mind, but unless/until a deal for his album has been finalized, I doubt it will mean anything to us.

There are plenty of record companies that would take Lindsey, I just wish he'd make a deal with one! I think Lindsey is great, but his ego could be holding him back from making a deal with anyone but a "major" label, and I don't think they are that interested in him unless with Fleetwood Mac. He should go to Sanctuary or a label like that. They have loads of 70's people signed there and give good promotion (although I think they were/are having money touble so maybe not a good idea  )
Anyway, he could find a deal easily if he'd shop around a bit :p

In my ideal world, Lindsey would run - not walk - to Anti-. They're a really fantastic label who make it their first priority to respect the creative visions of their artists. "Real artists creating great recordings on their own terms." That's their tagline. I can't think of anything more perfect for Lindsey. I don't know that there are any artists on Anti- who are musically that similar to him, but the label is home to some really great people, including Tom Waits, Blackalicious and Neko Case.

Somewhere, there have been mentions of a forthcoming CD. This site http://www.pauseandplay.com/upcoming.htm lists Lindsey in their "more upcoming releases". All their other sections are rather accurate, but discs without release date or just rumors go into the "more upcoming releases" section, so their notice may be just mirroring opinions from message boards like this.
Personally, I don't believe it until I've got a new Lindsey Buckingham disc in my hands, since there's always been the same announcements and rumors ever since I've been on the internet.
But I sure do hope that "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind" and "Down On Rodeo" will be released someday, so I can blast them in their full quality. These songs are just amazing. It's somewhat unbelievable that they haven't made it onto Say You Will.
Since current Stevie interviews state that she didn't enjoy what Lindsey has done to her songs on Say You Will, and considering the album ended with two songs saying goodbye, it's somewhat likely that that's it for Fleetwood Mac as we know it. So Lindsey might have to release some product as a contractual obligation, in which case there'd surely be a release of 'Gift Of Screws' material.
The situation remembers me a bit of the time before Brian Wilson's Gettin' In Over My Head album. Most of the songs from that album had been on Napster before in versions that were destined for scrapped album projects.
But we're not there just yet, since Lindsey is not touring at the moment.

Ok I posted this over at Buckingham Nicks too but thought I'd give it a go with this crowd:
Ok, this is my running order for the "unreleased lindsey cd" which i've titled "Paused Motion" in my itunes.
Yes, I know, I'm being impatient but,
*breaks into song: "I can't wait, I can't waaaaaiiiit!"*
Seriously what type of title do you foresee Lindsey stamping on it? Do you think he'll keep the title Gift of Screws or something new?
Whatever he calls it, I think the title will highlight the "reconciliation of opposites" he seems to like speaking of since the family transpired. An oxymoron of sorts if you will. That way the new happy songs act as a foil to the "gift of screws" material that in large part seems to address the personal things/views that were lost/sacrificed to the greater good of the many. I kind of think Lindsey's philosophy for the gift of screws title is similar; Gifts are positive gestures of appreciation, while the idea that you would give a gift screws is not. So that could be perceived as carrying the "reconciliation of opposites" stigma. Or in another context, to be able to perceive getting "screwed"( i.e. getting short changed) as a gift takes quite a bit of personal growth.
So what kind of title do you see suiting the possible new cd? And give us the philosophy behind it. I think this could be fun.
For the interested, this is my itunes playlist order for the songs that were gonna be "gift of screws" that I'd like to see on a possible new release by LB. I include Shut us Down because I think it will "strengthen the continuity" (that Lindsey so lovingly likes to speak of) with his new happy material.
Someone's gotta change your mind
Down on Rodeo
Shuffle Riff
twist of fate
shut us down
gift of screws
try for the son (empowering song to transition into the "newer material" to follow)

If he doesn't keep "Gift of Screws" as a title, I imagine he'll choose some other phrase from other nineteenth century American poet. He seems to enjoy that.

Of course I was going to, but I had to run out the door shortly after making that post and didn't have time ot think of any good ones. How about "Red-Cloaked Clown," from the first line of Emerson's "Each and All"? Or "Midnight Ride"?
