Ahh Easter memories...if you live in Tennessee, they pronounce memories like the milk secreting glad of a woman. Yeah. Scary.
Anyway...my twin brother and I both have this vivid recollection of something that happened to us one Easter morning back in 1984 or 1985. We both remember waking up that morning and being told to "look!" in the back yard. And BOTH of us remember seeing a giant ass bunny rabbit in the yard hopping around, etc. At the time, I remember we were somewhat scared. Among my many phobias, people in big fuzzy suits.
Anyhow, looking back, I'm sure it was just a relative or a neighbor playing along with the "gag." But whenever I visit my mom, or my dad and bring it up in coversation, they look at my brother and I as if we're crazy saying we must've imagined it.

You know as a wee child, I was never very good at egg hunts. Everyone else seemed to get so many treasures and I had, oh maybe one or two treats. It really was traumatic.
One Easter I caught my Mom getting ready to play the Easter bunny. That ruined my child innocence at such a early, tender age.
And finally, my Mom thought it was really cute to dress my brother and I in the same clothes and hold Easter baskets for picture time. My brother and I are not twins and we look ridiculous.
I think I'm going to cry thinking about Easter memories. Someone pass me a marshmellow peep right now, damn it. Wait. I even hate those too.

I remember, sadly, once year probably iaround 1987 or so my mother giving us all stuffed animals and a basket she had made full of random candies. I got a relatively large yellow stuff bunny rabbit. My brother got a bear and I think my sister got a duckie. Anyway, looking back, I think that was the moment where I started disliking Easter.

I remember getting fluffy baby animals when I was little. Baby rabbits, ducks and one year, when I was about five years old, it was baby chicks. Tragically, I only had the chicks for a few hours. We closed them in our laundry room, where they would be warm while we went to church on Easter morning. When we got home, I ran to the laundry room to check on my chicks and discovered a pile of feathers. Somehow, our cat had opened the door to the laundry room and killed all of them. It was pretty traumatic for a five year old!

I still get an easter basket.. yea i know.. once you reach your 20's you would think such things would stop.. but no.
However.. I enjoy still getting them (besides all the teeth rotting candy that I do love so much.. and even the new CD or DVD).. I believe it keeps a part of your child hood alive. :)

I was always lousy at it, too. There's a family video somewhere (always a scary way to begin a sentence) of my cousins and me hunting eggs, and I dropped my basket. The eggs I did find spilled out everywhere, and they came and stole them from me.
I got a couple of bunnies on Easter, also. I still have a soft spot for rabbits. :o

I don't get a basket anymore and don't have any particularly fond memories of the holiday.
I will, however, be taking a trip to the grocery store tomorrow to stock up on marked down Cadbury eggs.
Yummy.

I spent my Easter ripping Patti Smith's "Easter" onto my computer.
It was badass.

Most years, I go with my mom to get the basket blessed even though I'm not Catholic (she is.) It's a nice tradition. She always brings the same S&P shakers, so those are the holiest S&P shakers in the world.
I am always appalled that the priest at her chuch asks for "donations" of candy & food. He walks up & down the aisles holding his smock out like a pouch collecting from everyone. I'm always tempted to toss in a piece of greasy kielbasa to teach him a lesson. ;) This year, we went to a different church.

I'm sorry, I'm not understanding why that is appalling. Isn't the candy and food for people who don't have enough candy or food? Or is it for the priest to snack on?

It's for the priest to snack on. I thought all priests did it until we went to another church. It was then I realized that Father Chris made up his own little tradition to scam candy.
So. There. Appalling. :p To me, anyway.

Oh, that's kind of weird. It seems really nice if people just brought him food for the holiday, but to solicit for it is strange. Why doesn't someone just bring the poor guy an easter basket with a bunch of candy and snacks?
I sure would, after the first year I saw him trolling down the pews begging for cream eggs....

I have lots of weird Easter things.
However, I have much weirder Passover things. This year I got to play the Angel of Death and got to murder five first-born Egyptian sons.

Me too!!!
But seriously - you were in an easter play or something? You must explain.
My easters have been totally normal, except when I was 8.
I was in my really pretty dress, we were all at my Grandmas around the dinner table, she had made the big whole thing like at Christmas dinner, and I was in heaven cause I loved it at my grandmas, as all the family members there were really nice to me and loved me and spoiled me.
So, we're eating, and suddenly my mom announces: "So, Amber wrote 'f*ck you' on a neighbor's mailbox!" Which I hadn't done, but which the stupid poor white trash lying girl who lived in that house told my mom I did.
And when it first came up when it happened, I remember crying and crying in the tub while my mom yelled at me and repeating "I didn't do it! I didn't do it!" and she wouldn't believe me. I don't know why, I wasn't in the practice of misbehaving that way.
Anyway, I was sooooo embarrassed because the whole family thought I was good and sweet (which I was). I was very, very heartbroken, I started crying and left the table and cried in the bathroom until my grandma came and got me. And of course I couldn't really tell everyone that I hadn't done it. Also it was a shock, because the actual event had not happened very recently.
I think that was one of the top three traumatic moments in my young life, actually. I was sooooo incredibly embarrassed and heartbroken.
All my other Easters have been really good and fun, though. I was the only child in the entire family for 15 years, so the relatives really made things special for me. :)

Wow...thats graphic. Who was the angel of death in the Bible anyway? Michael? Does he have a name?

My sister and I always spent Easter week with my grandma and her sister. "Those were the days...." The one Easter that stands out most prominently in my mind was the time I spent alllllll day constantly eating. At the end of the day, my dad was showing home movies (Super 8) and I asked my great aunt to make me a sandwich. She made me a peanut butter and honey sandwich. I ate the whole thing and subsequently puked up the sandwich and everything else I had eaten all day all over the carpet.

I was talking about the thing where you were death, but this is a good one, too.
