I really wish I could take one or two of these cuties, but it's not possible. I thought I'd post it here in case any of you can. There are pictures at the site.

Dogs in Need
Odessa, Texas
April, 2006

The dogs on this web page are at Sanctuary in Odessa, Texas that is closing down due to health issues of the sole caretaker.

A wonderful man has been caring for the dogs for the past five years. They were all saved from being euthanized in shelters, abandoned on his property, or found stray in terrible condition. The dogs are cared for as far as having shelter, food, water, and medical attention, but they have also been for the most part, confined to pens for the last 1-5 years.

Their caretaker is battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy. We need to get these dogs to safety with rescue groups or into adoptive homes. A time will come when he can no longer care for them and then the situation will be critical and their chances of survival slimmer and slimmer.

All the dogs have been altered, vaccinated, dewormed, heart worm tested, and have been tested for Tick Fever. There are 21 dogs with Tick Fever and they are being treated with a once a day pill.

We do not want these dogs to go to organizations that euthanize for space. We must know these dogs will be safe and cared for until they are adopted to permanent homes.

If you can help by taking 1, 5, 10, 20, 30 of these dogs into your care, we would greatly appreciate the help.

If you can help transport dogs from Texas to the Dallas area or anywhere else in the U.S., please contact [email protected]. We are getting offers from kind people all over the country willing to take in one or two dogs, but we need to arrange transport.

To arrange a visit to the Sanctuary to meet some of the dogs for rescue or for more info, please contact Sandra at 432-335-0458 or email [email protected].

Where is Odessa? Odessa, TX is in West Texas. It is 430 miles from Santa Fe, 350 miles from Dallas, 340 miles from San Antonio.

If you can take some of the dogs, but you need help with transportation, contact [email protected] and we may be able to work something out with the network of caring people who are interested in helping these dogs.

awww.....:(
My parents foster dogs, but I guess being so far away they would have to keep one.
P.S. - Spay and Neuter your pets, everyone! :)
I love Camille and Roy. But my cats would not. Ooo, and Adrian! Border Collies are so smart.

The Seal Beach (California) Animal Shelter is a "no-kill" facility. They have a really good "home find" rate.
